by playing it over and over until you do

The idea that you might have to actually practice a game for a bit in order to beat it seems to have been totally lost in the modern age. Older systems just didn't have the memory capacity for long games, so you only really have to learn about 30 minutes of stuff. Really, you didn't even have to learn that much, only about 2 or 3 difficult bits per level, and the boss patterns. Once you had those down, it was just a matter of getting consistent.

I think maybe the average platformer or run and gun was 10-20 hours of practice to start consistently beating it. You'd stick at it, because you only got a couple games per year.

but that guy is too much even for me, know your limits

        you practice and git gud.
From seeing kids today fail at simple boss patterns in online games I nobody knows how to recognize and memorize patterns anymore.

you made me realize that zoomers are going to start calling any game they cant beat on their first try as being badly designed

              I can see it now
              >Gamers, I'm sure it goes without saying that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a timeless masterpiece. Just like the retro games of the past it was heavily inspired by, the game is hard as hell with challenging and unforgiving combat! But why does this retro difficulty feel fair in Zelda now but not so much when you compare it to actual retro games? Today we're going to do a deep dive into these games of the past and find out what makes them hard, why they were so frustrating, and what was different about the industry back then which made them this way. But first I'd like to thank today's sponsor: Manscaped! Drop those afro pubes back in the 80's next to these terrible game design decisions with a brand new Manscaped razor kit!

We still have not recovered from casuals being the core audience in the 7th gen. Shit like games autosaving every 5 seconds otherwise babies will quit playing because they can't see the whole game in one go like a movie.

          >spend 1000s of hours getting good at a multiplayer
          >can't be assed to spend like 50-ish master a Contra 1CC
I get that multiplayer is technically less repetitive thanks to a variety of players, game modes, etc. but still.

      It's not hard at all.

The trick is, and this will shock you zoomer morons, that if you do something for a little bit each day, you get better at it.

Contra is a simple game, especially that first one. Once you get the spread gun in stage 1, the game is over.
Beating punch out though - that's impressive.

Posting that with a pic of a game that takes hundreds of hours of practice to beat doesn't inspire much confifence.

Have the attention span to actually practice and memorize the game instead of relying on quick saves and your phone.

Of course its hard. I bet the input lag is ridiculous for Contra collection just like for the TMNT collection.

You are probably right and laggy contra has to be complete shit to play.

The Konami collections were done by M2 so it's probably fine on that front.

Watch the video. I doubt the Contra collection is any different.

Mark sucks M2's dick at every opportunity, they have a good standard of quality for ports.

I get more enjoyment from an old difficult game than from a walk here then walk there then kill something with no challenge then walk some more design of modern games.
Once open world novelty wore off that was it for new games and me, I was straight back to emulators. There are still 1 or 2 cool games released per year Im interested in but thats about it.
