We sometimes worked well until early morning (3 AM was the longest we've done) and even had sleepovers for times like these.
Some of our customers give us tight deadlines so they can present the product to rake in sponsors and monetary support from elsewhere.
But what he said is also true, I've also had extremely short work days where I "worked" for 3 hours and kept Mattermost open for the rest of the day, in case someone needed me.
This is actually not that rare, as long as you get shit done, no one cares that you watched anime with your girlfriend the other 5 hours.
And when we do collaborative work (for example, pair programming), we also frick around, make jokes and keep ourselves distracted.
I live in Germany, btw, and our company and the companies at our campus are very chill, but we're also all compsci graduates, so that might have something to do with it.

I work with a bunch of people who are very 'modern', and to protect my own beliefs and values, I have to be clever about how I interact with them given their prevalence to modern false philosophic thought/ethos. It does suck and can be a little tiring. But you will meet people like you who believe like you do and they will become your friends. If you don't get out there and 'play the game' you will never find them, and you'll end up being a shut-in recluse, which I can say from experience is a far worse alternative and way to live.

I can agree with your words & I've realized the same, in that it's a worse fate to pine away by yourself im front of a pc than to bite the bullet and have a social life & put work and effort into life.
Yet I'm lost on how to meet people like you described. tells me you don't want to do, which is FINE. And I even respect it to an extent. But you also have to find the balance. I work with a bunch of people who are very 'modern', and to protect my own beliefs and values, I have to be clever about how I interact with them given their prevalence to modern false philosophic thought/ethos. It does suck and can be a little tiring. But you will meet people like you who believe like you do and they will become your friends. If you don't get out there and 'play the game' you will never find them, and you'll end up being a shut-in recluse, which I can say from experience is a far worse alternative and way to live.

Yet I'm lost on how to meet people like you described. Obviously I won't meet anyone sitting at home, but once your social life has come to a complete stand-still, how do you get that ball rolling again? I do tabletennis, tennis, bouldering & club level chess, but I can't seem to make real connections through those. Same with dating apps, they are so tiresome, and the women are so vapid or boring... I used to make friends and girlfriends through other friends/parties, but now that I'm left with none & gotten older, it doesn't seem that simple.
One could go to social events or partying by themselves, but something in my mind dismisses the idea of going to something social by myself. The comic is not very realistic. Most friends I know who game into their 30's have stable careers and jobs, some married with kids and they still game as a hobby on the side for an hour, maybe two tops to unwind. I have even lived with shut-in reclusives who work Comp-sci from home and they still have relatively healthy social lives, albeit with people online and in VR. Point is, I've been a gamer and in the gaming sphere for a long time, and I don't know anyone like the comic in square 3.
