Either make it natural if it's something you can frick up, or just let them enjoy the interactive cut-scene if it's not
You know already. Why are you farming outrage with yet another outrage twitter screencap and a moronic comment? gays like you are what make the internet such a shit place to visit
>Actually it's YOUR fault!
No, it's the burnt out, understaffed, biased, lazy, corrupt Hot Pockets no longer gatekeeping the site, entitled, facetious, immature autists who take advantage of said lack of authority and autists who have no self-control. I blame the latter most of all in this situation. It's because of them that Ganker's in the state that it's in and you're just as guilty of it, if not worse for admitting you're not party responsible, dumb Black person.
Sadly, there are players out there that get stuck due to that mindset. Reminds me of that one guy that got filtered by SotC because he suddenly applied real world physics to the game.
>Uhm actually the yellow paint thing is good, actually? It helps disabled gamers and other people unfamiliar with games...
Frick cripples, frick casuals and frick israelites.
I'd rather have a party member spoil the way forward by saying "hey we gotta go up that mountain right there" than fricking spray paint from God ruining my immersion. It's funny how the director says immersion is high priority and then they proudly pull shit like this.
The climbing sequence probably still exists as a buffer for loading, if they didn't need it I would hope Cloud would just jump that height, considering in cutscene we've seen him jumping higher.
There's one climbing section where you just go down to a platform to get an item, no loading involved. Probably just a way to have the cliffside platform.
Ah yes, the esteemed developers who made Bulletstorm. With such a beloved, all time classic upheld as the modern-day-DOOM when it comes to how much its design choices inspired contemporaries, I don't think we can ever recover from this.
Pat has always been a sub 80 IQ mongoloid. Before SBFP he bagged groceries for a living and he was barely qualified to do that. Matt and Liam were both insufferable homosexuals and Woolie is even dumber than Pat, so he got a free pass for years.
>If Bulletstorm didn't make barrels red, people wouldn't shoot them
Ok, let's see. Maybe they should have tried to put an exploding barrel in an environment where it would have gotten shot. Or, maybe they could have put a scene where a character points out an explosive barrel and thus the player would realize what an explosive looks like. You can also, of course, put things like CAUTION EXPLOSIVE on the side. Once again, other games have had more elegant solutions. The only reason to use RED = Danger is laziness, not because it is the only viable way to get a moron to shoot it so they blow up the wall.
It does and I certainly don't mind it, as long as the barrels are designed in such a way that makes sense for the environments and aren't just a flat red barrel. I'm just saying that if you want to make a blue explosive barrel, you have to establish it properly. Don't just blame people not randomly shooting barrels hoping they explode because most of the time people have conditioned themselves for specific instances and of course want to save ammo. Honestly the real issue is that they made using an explosive barrel a requirement to advance and not just make them a side thing.
I think it's fricking rich for Pat of all people to call others stupid for nitpicking. He didn't let Woolie talk for an hour straight because he needed to rant about how Star Wars was ruined forever by "I hate sand" when Woolie wanted *five minutes* to talk about a Star Wars comic he liked lmao
I'm replaying Max Payne 3 with the first person mod rn (it's fun btw) and there are tons of exploding things you can shoot in the game that aren't red barrels lol.
It's funny just how obvious it is that this entire debate is completely manufactured bullshit. No one actually takes the stance that this specific instance of yellow paint is good and perfectly executed. It obviously looks like shit. But all these people have to take this stance because they have to hand it to the gamer chuds. None of these people would take this stance for film or literature.
>Actually this movie was really hard for focus groups to understand, so it's a good thing that they dumbed down the plot! >A test group found that this book was really hard to read, especially for people with dyslexia, so we changed a lot of the large complicated words to smaller simpler words.
But for games, it's suddenly ok to do this shit. Make the game look worse, have more on-screen instruction, have more button prompts, uglify and simplify for the sake of "accessibility"
Not all movies or literature is art either. People still wouldn't praise "designed by committee" bullshit. Nobody would say the MCU does a good job by making their jokes appeal to children with 30 seconds attentions spans.
>because they have to hand it to the gamer chuds
It's literally the same with the whole "localization rewrites are le good" discussion, too. These people are the same that will tell you games are art, but at the same time, any rewrite made to jap scripts during localization is good, actually. Especially if it removes """""""""""""problematic"""""""""""" stuff.
This is the reason they insist "Everything is political." Because then they are justified in doing anything that advances their agenda no matter how hypocritical.
So like, who did the paint job and how? Were they just dangling there one handed? Did they set up a rope to hang from and then take it with them? Hell a simple sign with an up arrow would make just as much sense. Even just a wooden stake marker that the characters can comment on. You already have the map and the glowing “interact with this” prompt at the bottom.
In context they were using an alternate path to the reactor likely used before the bridge was setup so it's not a stretch to assume some shinra worker painted them. But it'll be annoying if they're used throughout the game.
>gold saucer has gold paint leading you to the creepy hotel >Costa Del sol has gold sand everywhere >fort condor has golden Phoenix feathers leading you around >junon has bright gold on the walls leading you
Those would at fit in, but it'll just be the magical sand path I'm sure.
I don't care about this, at all. I'm more concerned about the harsh low resolution textures immediately to the left and right on the rock faces. This entire game is open world rocky environments. If this is what it looks like, then the entire game is going to be hard to look at.
Genuinely speaking this is worse than just having interactables glow. >Uglier and dumber looking >Ends up being less obvious as someone can just assume someone accidently spilled paint on object and you might need to find someone leaving yellow paint around
troony it's an auto-climbing section, it's not BotW where you have to position yourself and manage a resource, instead of obvious painting why not put fricking crafting materials in the ledges, so the player knows he is meant to reach them? Several games have done this before and the only reason devs do this now is because of their absolutely moronic obsession with >MUH ACCESIBILITY FOR CRIPPLES AND moronS
>the only reason devs do this now is because of their absolutely moronic obsession with >>MUH ACCESIBILITY FOR CRIPPLES AND moronS
Yeah somehow I feel this is the reason for why we now have such unsubtle player guides
Put moss on the ledges instead of on the boundaries of the climbing area.
Maybe some bird nests and guano.
Put plants, flowers, small birds chilling on the ledge that fly away when you jump to it.
>Yellow paint is lazy and breaks immersion
Uhhh... There's literally a twink with a huge sword on his back that he can't possibly wield, and you're worried about some paint?
I wouldnt mind this. we've already seen elves, dragons and orcs setting a hundred times over. seeing one that introduces sporadic modern technology would be great.
imagine if Helms Deep was breached with a Javelin lol.
Those have internally consistent reasons for existing.
Who paints the ledges? Why are they painted?
Why yellow? Do they refresh the paint as it wears away?
So why not have it be an elevator in the side of the mountain, cause nothing should make sense since cloud exists. Frick it, have him fly up while your at it
>Um... you're playing a game with fricking wizards and dragons in it but Andrew Tate pulling up in his Bugatti with Shrek in the backseat somehow breaks your immersion???
>$1,000,000 budget game (mostly marketing and breast reductions) >ugly neon yellow paint to guide player to what can be grabbed >$6.7 million game made by passionate autists including a gun nut and horny femcel >just buy a 'climb anywhere' asset pack and give players complete freedom and immersion
it IS ugly and it IS bad
it is literally made to appeal to the lowest common denominator
These people don't care that there are examples we like. They will just use it as proof that we are "hypocrites" The argument completely lacks any sort of nuance. It's a culture war. We are wrong because we supposedly want to make gaming inaccessible and gatekeep the women and morons out, not because of any sort of point we are actually making.
Better markings is not a solution. The solution is to not include these moronic braindead climbing sections in the first place. In the past you could almost excuse them as a weak way to hide load times but they're absolutely unnecessary now. Get rid of this shit or just make it one quick animation if there's no way to fail the climb.
I dunno why people are whining about RE4's implementation of it considering it looks significantly more naturalistic than the original breakable assets or being a massive glowy sprite.
>someone just walking around splattering yellow paint on random objects in a place full of crazy villagers and cultists infected by weird parasites >naturalistic
yes? have you played the original RE4? The breakables are in an entirely different fidelity, they stick out like sore thumbs like any old school cartoon that has a background element be animated.
Wow, so you're telling me that all the interactable objects in RE4 were perfectly visible without needing to smear mustard on them? Imagine that!
Anonymous
because they don't appear natural, yes. and the yellow boxes appear to be more natural because they actually are on a equal playing field fidelity wise. I don't think you understand what naturalistic means

Wrong. Shut the frick up, you pseudointellectual troll.

I think you're the one who doesn't understand it. The player expects breakable objects to stand out and be clearly visible while still fitting in with the rest of the enviroment. Splattering random objects with mustard is just fricking moronic, because it implies there's someone walking ahead of you just covering everything interactable with yellow for no other reason but to insult your inteligence.

>while still fitting in with the rest of the environment
so you think the original RE4's implementation of these objects is worse because they very much do NOT fit in with the rest of the environment.

A interactive object being slightly brighter than the rest of the enviroment is way more natural and fitting to what the player expect compared to everything, even the most obvious shit being covered in mustard. Especially since it actually implies the existence of someone just walking around with a big paint bucket and a brush while evading all the dangers.

>slightly brighter
they might as well have a giant neon flashing sign over it that says "I am not as a detailed as the environment, therefore I am destructible, please break me". Does the background cell animation comparison just not work because you zoomers have never watched any classic cartoon?

They're barrels and crates. Anyone who actually plays videogames sees wooden barrels and crates then tries to break them for loot. Especially people who played re4 before, and know barrels and crates have loot in them.

the argument is that I think the yellow paint is a more naturalistic solution in the case of the RE4 barrels, they blend better with the environment and still provide a visual tell. paint or filth getting on barrels and shit IS normal.

Hell, there was a mountain climbing segment in the original FF7 where the guy just stuck a red flag on both ends of the climbing spots. Just fricking do that again. Or make it a yellow flag if you really have to stick with the yellow autism.

It's abstracted guidance, half way to gui, no one gives a shit about it as long as it's not too distracting. The paint is diegetic and begs the question about its origin and purpose.
If you went in completely blind to the original RE4 or User Experience grift, you'd wonder for a while if Leon had a mysterious benefactor ahead of him, or if the trader has some agents smuggling and marking shit around, or if the marking are of some ritual or administrative importance to the cult, or if infected had serious mental deterioration that required big obvious markings.

>the paint is diegetic and begs the question about its origin and purpose
as someone who worked with lots of wooden pallets and boxes with paint all over them, I have never once wondered about why it was there. it's alot more believable that someone would smear paint on a box than for the box to be a door that will be opened in the background of a tom and jerry cartoon.

If it happened only a couple of times throughout the game, no one would complain. If every single interactable item – boxes, doors, stairs – is smeared with yellow paint... that's a bit weird. The stuff isn't even painted properly, there's just yellow paint smeared everywhere.
But at least in RE4 it makes some sort of sense. Who the frick painted a fricking rock wall in the middle of nowhere in FF7 lmao.
At the end of the day I don't really care as long as the game's fun. It's not THAT big of a deal. But there are better ways to attract the player's attention, as multiple people have shown in this very thread. Or maybe they shouldn't even try to be diegetic: add some sort of UI element on top of what you can interact with and call it a day.
>never addressed or even lampshaded
Isn't it implied that the merchant is the one leaving the paint in RE4R?
Is it? That's my headcanon from now on.

Lots of stuff in RE4 doesn't make sense.
Why do the villagers have ammo on them if they don't use guns?
If they have ammo why don't they use guns? Ganados are more than capable of using firearms if the islands forces are anything to go by.
Why doesn't leon just break open locks instead of using the little multikeys he gets that inexplicably break after one use?
Why does anyone take that manlet salazar seriously instead of giving him swirlies?

I mean yeah there's game logic then there's diagetic design. Enemies dropping loot is just expected. In new FF at least they tend to drop items related to the enemy.
Same way as the original, have a button to toggle to show icons above intractable action points without compromising the art design of the game itself. How hard is it to be a faithful fricking remake?
>guide the player?
Here your issue, how about letting the player search and learn himself?
Funnily enough, "free climbing" on Horizon Zero Dawn is literally that (which basically make their "guide climbing" idiotic)

Even the people defending this (it's objectively bad design, cope harder) couldn't explain why there wouldn't be an option to just turn it off.
Or better yet, make it work like an actual VIDEO GAME and give the PC something like a magic spell or item that turns on Braindead moron Mode when used. Almost like every single videogame in the mid-oughts with Eagle Vision and such.
This "problem" was solved a decade ago and we have only regressed since then.

I'd take XB3's approach over 7R's any day
They fricking had guiding arrows in original FF7, use those as both appeasing the retrogays and dumbing it down for normies
that would be a smart option and SE hasn't been about doing that for ages
the frick are you talking about
You've conjured the "2 high fidelity assets" out of your ass, I've tried to clear your dunning-kruger with an already existing example of turning off visual aides. It's also an isolated setting, if that's your hang up.
most people seem to scoff at the idea of games having options like that. how dare you be able to turn on/off indicators, have ui scaling of individual elements and turn off screen shake
Just make the climable area much lighter than the surrounding rocks so there's a pathway up or just make a 30 minute cutscene where Sephiroth talks about having to climb those rocks to get up while Cloud fellates and strokes his ego more just to pad the filler remake more
It's actually kind of interesting because the first Resident Evil 4 came out at a time when everybody was worried about games being dumbed down. It was another game in a long list of games that were basically linear shooters. The community has basically completely lost that war. Dumbing down games is a good thing now.
Resi 4 isn't a dumbing down of previous Resi games, it's an entirely different formula and style of game. It demands a lot more gameplay skill moment-to-moment than prior Resi titles by virtue of being an action shooter, so you can only call it "dumbed down" if you pigeonhole it as a slow paced survival horror game. And there were more traditional survival horror titles coming out around that same time with games like REmake, RE0, and all the experimental titles that branched off from Resi 4's early development (and spinoffs of those games).
The only people that complained about Resi 4 when it was knew were smug turbohomosexuals who weren't buying survival horror anyways, otherwise their genre wouldn't have fricking died.
Most people on this thread are wrong.
They try to find a solution about something that doesn't need one.
If you put a guy in a pit, what will be his first question? >How do I get out of this
Then, he will try to find a way to climb it, that's it, that's your gameplay here, looking for a patch, trying different approach, seeing your progress as you climb higher and higher, it's just that simple.
There is no guide or anything, of course, if you want the climbing to just last 5s, then, why even make it playable then?
A good way to show what "free climbing" is, is to look at Horizon Zero Dawn and their rock formation in the game, which allow you to "goat jump" over and over to reach place you shouldn't technically be able to.
?t=148
While it's visually not that pleasing, gameplay wise, you literally get the same "experience" than climbing, aka, searching for path, estimating if you can or not climb there, then, trying to do it by making precise jumps etc...
Sephiroth would tell Cloud (The Player): "You see that ledge, Cloud? There's a way up, look for rocks jutting out to give you the best chance at scaling the cliff."
If you're a cheap bastard, then make the paint look like it's apart of the environment, like make it glow like there's materia residue, or have it be moss. I mean for God's sake, a child could figure this out.
>Team mates pointing out a hidden path >Some bird shit on ledges >Hidden cache flag above ledge >Yuffie orgasms when close to loot >Good lighting and shadows
Pick any >Mark on minimap with no other clues
Pick any
These idiots defending the use of these super lazy yellow paint markings are so fricking pathetic. All they can do is kiss a corporation's ass because they think they're apart of their family or something, GET A FRICKING GRIP, YOU c**tS. Sony isn't your fricking dad, or your brother, stop acting like a religious zealot and have some self-respect.
It's more about lazyness than pandering. If all this shit was optional (and, you know, unneccessary because you incorporated the signposting into your level design from the beginning), nobody would mind it. Now it's just a band-aid solution to boost the player engagement through playtime.
There's no guidance needed in that section. Just hold the stick forward and the character climbs.
And there's that blue arrow at the bottom anyway so the visual diarrhea in your image is unnecessary.
Part of the issue is that graphics have gotten too detailed. Used to be the mountain would just be some flat polygons with a somewhat blurry rock texture with polygon rectangles jutting out. Now it's a super complicated and detailed rock structure with some other super complicated and detailed rock structures slightly jutting out.
>200 replies of morons arguing about the proper way to hammer nails into your dick instead of wondering if it's even necessary in the first place
all so tiresome
all this yellow paint bullshit has told me is that game developers have some magical ability to find sub-90 IQ morons with zero sense of curiosity to playtest their games.
>anon discovers AAA games are made with the lowest common denominator in mind
these things cost one shitzillion dollars to make, of course they're going to try to make it as idiot proof as possible.
And then souls games come out, and it turns out that focus group tests don't reflect reality. When it comes to sales numbers premise of a game is something that matters much more than accessibility or even the quality of the final product.
Eh there's a connotation for the souls games that other AAA games couldn't replicate without losing their userbase I don't think. Like I don't think the people buying every console exclusive are also buying and beating every souls games, they serve different userbases.
>and had to find a different visual tell for whether or not the asset is in fact breakable.
They're barrels and crates. Anyone who actually plays videogames sees wooden barrels and crates then tries to break them for loot. Especially people who played re4 before, and know barrels and crates have loot in them.
the only reason you know to break barrels and crates in RE4 is because of how they clashed with the environment originally. To remove ANY and all visual tell for that stuff will 100% result in people missing them, and remakes are also made with the assumption that it could be the first time someone would be playing that game, or a game in general.
The fact that you have such a hard time wrapping your head around the idea of "see crate, break crate" and think you need mustard on it to actually get that idea proves that you don't play videogames.
I'm just explaining the logic at work anon. AAA games are made for more than just people who have played videogames all their lives, what is second nature to you must be taught to new players, and because AAA games are so risky to make they take the most visually obvious solution as to not alienate those who don't have legacy skill. you just want to act cool about knowing how to break a box in a videogame instead of actually debating the subject at hand, and that makes you a homosexual.

The original literally rendered breakable containers at fullbright and HUGE light pillars in items when they are in the ground. It's the most elegant solution.
People like you clearly don't play video games and it sounds like you work as a Sony rep trying to do damage control on message boards like this one. There's no excuse for what Sony is doing. My guess is that it's just cope for their lazy design. They just make a demographic of "never played a video game before and has no learning capacity" and rolled with it. This probably all comes back to inclusivity and diversity nonsense being pushed behind the scenes. If your game cannot be completed by someone in a coma being pushed around by guinea pigs in hamster balls, you're being exclusive.
This is why you don't buy AAA games. These kinds of decisions are so obviously trend-based and passed around certain circles that permeate big publishers. You won't get this shit from someone who cares about the game they're making.

All the more reason to dislike it. It's a tired, antiquated relic of past design. Devs most commonly think of industry progress in terms of graphical fidelity or sex/skin color when more attention should be given to blending all of the elements into a more seamless and cohesive player experience.
How did the early 2000's Prince of Persia games do it again? Admittedly it's been ages since I played them but I recall no obnoxious immersion-breaking markings, nor any moments where I was stumped about what part of the screen was interactable.
no. i remember when ezio ran across rome's yellow rooftops and climbed up the the cathedral of florence's bell tower with all its little ledged slathered in yellow paint.
Do people unironically not understand why this exists in modern games?
Back in the day, there was an incredibly obvious difference between an interactable or moveable object vs. the back drop. ie: Prerendered backgrounds vs low poly player characters in JRPGs.
As we approach graphical parity between the player character, interactable environments etc. you will eventually hit a point (which we are hitting now) where it isn't obvious what is going to be interactable vs. static background.
Obviously if you've been playing games all your life you'd probably be able to intuit the surroundings better than a new player, but0 would you really prefer everything be absolutely random chance to be interactable and tons of invisible walls being the only things that can guide you?
>Do people unironically not understand why this exists in modern games?
Everyone knows why it exists, it exists because of devs catering to fricking morons.
if this is the case then why not make it optional? then at the very least you can take screenshots without moronic yellow paint everywhere. non morons can play the game and morons can stare at paint drying.
or better yet redesign your game so you don't have to do a boring stupid wall climbing QTE for 30 seconds as the next area loads (even though the PS5 was supposed to remove loading screens with its future technology ssd that is a gift from god and loads faster than an entire server room of nasa computers).
when you market to literal 65 iq diversity, you have to make it this fricking obvious. any subtlety will lead to complaints and cries of too difficult.
Entitlement complex >I payed 70 bucks for this game. I shouldn't have to play "Find the path". Just let me get to the good part
This has resulted in devs marking the path, instead of, you know, trimming the fat. Because if they did, than people would complain that the game is too short for what they paid.
The real question is why isn't it just a cutscene or a QTE or even just skipped? There is no gameplay, fun, enjoyment, or story telling here. It's a meaningless task.
>meaningless task
this is literally what all jrpgs are for all 3000 hours of the time it takes to "play" them anon. just a total horseshit genre for literal morons and pedophiles
Fun fact, the vents in callisto generally aren't loading screens as detached camera exploring has shown that most surrounding areas are already loaded in.
It's just the devs didn't know how to actually connect all the areas so disorienting vents became the crutch.
>we want the uncharted audience
How in the actual frick does this series still have an audience when its all been downhill since the merger? By all rights this shit should be as much of a laughingstock as Forspoken but somehow, it isn't
They had 20 years of nostalgia built up before 20 years of shit came along. Those nostalgia-years can keep fanboys sustained for a LONG time, despite the games literally playing nothing like the games they're nostalgic for.
I wouldn't generalize all of them.
It's just a specific portion of normalgays who're DSP-tier to low income wagies. 3rd worlders are pretty fricking stupid too. I recall either a sandBlack person or ruskie leaking Jedi Fallen Order early and he kept dying to the most basic platforming segments in the game that it wasn't even funny.
>Ok, moron, how would YOU guide the player?
Stop drowning every fricking game in a billion post processing effects so the screen is crisp and actually fricking readable at a glance.
Tendies once again making a mountain out of a mole hill over games they can’t play on their tablet and acting like they are intelligent for pointing out the obvious. Your all morons for falling for this.
But it's fricking there, what you're spouting is irrelevant to the conversation. If the climbing section wasn't there with that trashy paintjob, no one would be b***hing about it, so knock it off with this misdirection, butthole.
>3rd wave Feminism >We can talk about both Men AND Women's issues! >Also 3rd wave Feminism >We'll GET to your issues, but we need to fix women's issues FIRST because of YOU!
This is your logic.
We can talk about both, you narrow-minded Black person, and the solution to that specific thing is justified. That cutie anon didn't imply derailing the topic.
Removing needless content is always a solution, I get it, but it feels like misdirection to me because right now, there is a wall already with a very tacky handholding mechanic that should be removed from all games. period. The wall climbing adds player immersion at the very least, an illusion of world building to hide a loading screen, but the yellow paint is just insulting outright.

Well if it was a misdirection they would've said "Get rid of all of it with everything". Mod'll fix it anyway is my extremist view.

"The mods will fix it."
That's another excuse I'm tired of hearing.
"But it's true, just get a PC."
I shouldn't need to get multiple machines, the devs should be doing their goddamn jobs instead of sitting on their asses and struggling to speak English and shitting on the street all damn day.
You guys lost Gamergate to Zoe Quinn.
Why can't you just take the L with grace? Why use yellow paint of all things as a proxy for your insufferable bitterness towards women?
I'm going to use this to frick with my friends to see what their reactions will be. >Why use (x) of all things as a proxy for your insufferable bitterness towards (marginalized group)?
does anybody have that picture of the half life playtester couldnt figure his way out of a cave or something so they had to completely change that section
the only accessibility feature i care about is for low vision. i don't mean literal blind users who can't see shit, with TTS voice narrating the screen.
but fricking tiny tiny UI text. let me scale it. just let me scale the text for fricks sake.
This. My vision isn't even shit, but modern UI text is so fricking small I'm starting to think I need glasses. That's a joke, I've gotten my eyes tested and there's nothing wrong with them.
there is a fundamental problem of game design and creative ambition causing this problem. developers and designers should be asking themselves why they have the players scaling a cliff face where the game mechanics are Press X to grab the next ledge, without any skill or risk. what's the experiential benefit? why are they breaking the immersion with yellow paint to get the player to experience this?
there are many potential explanations, a lot of them are probably true or, at least, viable. in my mind, it's likely either a economic/temporal budget issue (we designed this because it looked cool, and now we don't have time to change it even though it doesn't really make sense or benefit the experience) or a lack of game design/experience design consideration.
the ideal solution for a game like ff7 having to use yellow paint like this is to step back and consider an alternative route up the cliff face. a ladder anchored at various points into the rocks? a steep staircase worn by hundreds of years of foot traffic? a pulley elevator system? there are many solutions that offer the same level of gameplay (virtually none), but benefit the experience more.
make the moss on the sides of each rock more saturated and shaped to make it so the moss and the rocks combined visually look more like a ladder. Also maintain the original brighter color on the rocks without the yellow paint
Are you seriously going to sit there and tell me you wouldn't notice those ledges if they were rock coloured?
To answer your question, I'd cut it. Scripted climbing isn't fun
daily reminder that you are enabling developer laziness, the discussion should not be if the yellow paint should be here BUT why is it not a toggle-able feature that you can turn on and off from menu
>muh fidelity
Look at this. Here is a modern game with easily discernable hand/footholds.
Honestly I thought this was bad at the time but it's a damn sight better than yellow paint
Just place a clearly visitable location off the main path and let the player figure out that he can find a hidden path behind some rocks or something.
And no, there doesn't need to be a scripted rock climbing event, as some anon said, either rock climbing is a universal mechanic that you can use anywhere appropriate, or you don't put it in the game.
This is especially idiotic in FF7R where you're travelling with a party 90% of the time anyway. All you need to do is have one party member hop up the cliff first so the player knows they can go that way, and if there's an alternate path then the other party member goes "hey I see another path on the [left/right]!" Do that in the first chapter of the game and it'll be a tutorial that will teach the player they can go up cliffs from now on. The problem is that all their play testing and focus testing is done piecemeal, so they show the testers a piece of gameplay in the middle of the game and the testers go "a buh buh buh i dunno what to do" when no shit they didn't go through the tutorial.
This is the best solution in the thread. Why isn't Sephiroth, the leader, or Tifa, THE GUIDE, going first? Tifa is literally the players guide to the reactor she can guide you up a cliff.
i wouldn't, learn the fricking game or play something easier, it is not even something hard like a combo it is common sense and trying out the enviroment and mechanics
I think the threads popped up around RE4R. It wasn't a big deal in RE7-RE3R being in a city, I barely remember it in RE7 tbh. But it stuck out the most in 4.
if the player needs to be guided to climb an obviously climbable wall that already has a glowing blue box at the base of it showing you its interactable then they are simply too stupid to play the game, they deserve to be stuck there and uninstall
Do it like every game where you climb on a ledge did it before with no problems until they regressed to their solution today? I'm sure we already have 2-3 decades of doing this and I didn't hear anyone complaining about it like ever.
Use the angle of the lighting to give them a nice fat shadow underneath so they stand out.
First and second post best post
Either make it natural if it's something you can frick up, or just let them enjoy the interactive cut-scene if it's not
>how would you guide a player through a qte
I wouldn't you silly billy
You know already. Why are you farming outrage with yet another outrage twitter screencap and a moronic comment? gays like you are what make the internet such a shit place to visit
it's actually people like you who keep responding the outrage bait that make the internet such a shit place to visit
You’re contributing to this thread as well, moron
>Actually it's YOUR fault!
No, it's the burnt out, understaffed, biased, lazy, corrupt Hot Pockets no longer gatekeeping the site, entitled, facetious, immature autists who take advantage of said lack of authority and autists who have no self-control. I blame the latter most of all in this situation. It's because of them that Ganker's in the state that it's in and you're just as guilty of it, if not worse for admitting you're not party responsible, dumb Black person.
There's a minimap on the top right showing you the way
>how would YOU guide the player
why the frick would i want to do that?
have the artists never seen a cliff in real life anyways?
these look fricked up, even putting aside the shitty texture mapping
>the green moss looks like moss
>the yellow stuff looks like paint
kek
>Moss on a rocky cliff?
>Looks like a clearly-marked handhold, thanks genre-savviness!
>Oh wait, I forgot
>Moss is slippery
Sadly, there are players out there that get stuck due to that mindset. Reminds me of that one guy that got filtered by SotC because he suddenly applied real world physics to the game.
>Reminds me of that one guy that got filtered by SotC because he suddenly applied real world physics to the game.
Curious to who said moron may be.
Just some rando on Ganker. Insisted the player would be splatterd if he tried to jump onto the furry patch of the winged colossus.
but that's fur
if you're trying to hold onto a stone creature with fur, you obviously want to grab the fur
Not to mention its several colossi into the game and the game rules have been illustrated, with player participation, multiple times.
>Uhm actually the yellow paint thing is good, actually? It helps disabled gamers and other people unfamiliar with games...
Frick cripples, frick casuals and frick israelites.
If israelites and casuals want this, put it in accessibility options ffs
I WOULDN'T, ITS LITERALLY A LINEAR PATH, YOU ARE FORCED TO GO UP THAT CLIFF. NOBODY NEEDED THE YELLOW PAINT.
I'd rather have a party member spoil the way forward by saying "hey we gotta go up that mountain right there" than fricking spray paint from God ruining my immersion. It's funny how the director says immersion is high priority and then they proudly pull shit like this.
you are being inmersed into the idea that you are playing the most moronic shit ever and giving money to square enix...
Somebody paint their HQ door handles yellow or something.
might as well have the climbing sequence play itself.
why even have the façade of interactivity?
Hello white intel racers from swedistan
The climbing sequence probably still exists as a buffer for loading, if they didn't need it I would hope Cloud would just jump that height, considering in cutscene we've seen him jumping higher.
There's one climbing section where you just go down to a platform to get an item, no loading involved. Probably just a way to have the cliffside platform.
it IS ugly and it IS bad
it is literally made to appeal to the lowest common denominator
>If we didn't paint the wall yellow the players wouldn't know they had to climb them.
Ah yes, the esteemed developers who made Bulletstorm. With such a beloved, all time classic upheld as the modern-day-DOOM when it comes to how much its design choices inspired contemporaries, I don't think we can ever recover from this.
It's a neat concept but is like 4 hours long.
The wonders of 7th gen games
Does this guy not realize that he is making the right panel argument?
HAHA DO YOU NOT REALIZE YOU WERE THE SUBJECT OF MY SATIRE WHERE I MOCKED YOU AND DIDN'T ATTEMPT TO MAKE AN ARGUMENT?
He does not.
Has he gotten dumber after having a kid or has he always been this moronic?
Pat has always been a sub 80 IQ mongoloid. Before SBFP he bagged groceries for a living and he was barely qualified to do that. Matt and Liam were both insufferable homosexuals and Woolie is even dumber than Pat, so he got a free pass for years.
>Literally modern day 3 Stooges
I'm not familiar with SBFP lore, but if someone hasn't already made that connection then I'll be surprised.
Leftists are like walking parodies
The guy has a beard, opinion discarded
>The guy has a beard, opinion discarded
when you go bald you need a gimmick to not look moronic
Bald+stubble is chad
>If Bulletstorm didn't make barrels red, people wouldn't shoot them
Ok, let's see. Maybe they should have tried to put an exploding barrel in an environment where it would have gotten shot. Or, maybe they could have put a scene where a character points out an explosive barrel and thus the player would realize what an explosive looks like. You can also, of course, put things like CAUTION EXPLOSIVE on the side. Once again, other games have had more elegant solutions. The only reason to use RED = Danger is laziness, not because it is the only viable way to get a moron to shoot it so they blow up the wall.
>dude just add more cutscenes
Red is the first color the eye is drawn to. It works for explosives.
Pat's a fricking moron. I can't tell if he does it for a bit or if the bit has gone on too long where irony and reality have blended together
Don't intellectually and emotionally invest into a hobby targeted at morons. You don't weebs b***hing because their cartoons are targeted to children.
If the environment reads poorly without it, that's a developer skill issue.
>It obviously looks like shit
Also men are obviously not women, but look at the world now.
Blame leftists and it will be a safe bet.

Games can't be art
Not all movies or literature is art either. People still wouldn't praise "designed by committee" bullshit. Nobody would say the MCU does a good job by making their jokes appeal to children with 30 seconds attentions spans.
>Not all movies or literature is art either.
Games can't be art period.
>Games can't be art period.
Sorry. Until YOU come up with a definition of what 'art' is, then you're wrong.
Video games are multi-disciplinary hybrid art.
But they can be entertainment, just like movies and books
>because they have to hand it to the gamer chuds
It's literally the same with the whole "localization rewrites are le good" discussion, too. These people are the same that will tell you games are art, but at the same time, any rewrite made to jap scripts during localization is good, actually. Especially if it removes """""""""""""problematic"""""""""""" stuff.
>ban AI! respect the artists!
>we should change what the original writer wrote because I didn't like it
leftists are liars
But it'll be annoying if they're used throughout the game.
>gold saucer has gold paint leading you to the creepy hotel
>Costa Del sol has gold sand everywhere
>fort condor has golden Phoenix feathers leading you around
>junon has bright gold on the walls leading you
Those would at fit in, but it'll just be the magical sand path I'm sure.
>Uglier and dumber looking
>Ends up being less obvious as someone can just assume someone accidently spilled paint on object and you might need to find someone leaving yellow paint around
Could have just had interactables have a slight glimmer to them and call it something dumb like Mako Sense or SOLDIER Intuition.
troony it's an auto-climbing section, it's not BotW where you have to position yourself and manage a resource, instead of obvious painting why not put fricking crafting materials in the ledges, so the player knows he is meant to reach them? Several games have done this before and the only reason devs do this now is because of their absolutely moronic obsession with
>MUH ACCESIBILITY FOR CRIPPLES AND moronS
>the only reason devs do this now is because of their absolutely moronic obsession with
>>MUH ACCESIBILITY FOR CRIPPLES AND moronS
Yeah somehow I feel this is the reason for why we now have such unsubtle player guides
Put moss on the ledges instead of on the boundaries of the climbing area.
Maybe some bird nests and guano.
Put plants, flowers, small birds chilling on the ledge that fly away when you jump to it.
Yellow paint is lazy and breaks immersion.
>Yellow paint is lazy and breaks immersion
Uhhh... There's literally a twink with a huge sword on his back that he can't possibly wield, and you're worried about some paint?
how is this always relevant
I wouldnt mind this. we've already seen elves, dragons and orcs setting a hundred times over. seeing one that introduces sporadic modern technology would be great.
imagine if Helms Deep was breached with a Javelin lol.
Forgotten ruin
>LEDge instead of yellow paint
Those have internally consistent reasons for existing.
Who paints the ledges? Why are they painted?
Why yellow? Do they refresh the paint as it wears away?
the problem is the game treating me like a fricking invalid, not the style in which it does it
So why not have it be an elevator in the side of the mountain, cause nothing should make sense since cloud exists. Frick it, have him fly up while your at it
>Um... you're playing a game with fricking wizards and dragons in it but Andrew Tate pulling up in his Bugatti with Shrek in the backseat somehow breaks your immersion???
>game is literally called FANTASY
>wtf why isn't this realistic like Call of Duty??
forsen
>$1,000,000 budget game (mostly marketing and breast reductions)
>ugly neon yellow paint to guide player to what can be grabbed
>$6.7 million game made by passionate autists including a gun nut and horny femcel
>just buy a 'climb anywhere' asset pack and give players complete freedom and immersion
wat game
I would have an annoying mascot character float over your shoulder that talks like Winslow and calls you a moron
Legitimately, I thought we solved this a decade go. The standard for cliffs is bird shit and chalk. I don't get it.

That’s not accessibility-friendly enough, chud. Make it bright yellow.
Better markings is not a solution. The solution is to not include these moronic braindead climbing sections in the first place. In the past you could almost excuse them as a weak way to hide load times but they're absolutely unnecessary now. Get rid of this shit or just make it one quick animation if there's no way to fail the climb.
First have Tifa bring it to your attention (she's guiding you anyways) then
put a sign like a street sign that said danger do not climb
does anyone else get the feeling this is an AI thread or just me
I AM the player
>goal is to climb
>hold up
>if that doesn't work, hold up+left
>if that doesn't work, hold up+right
guaranteed
>how would YOU guide the player?
>never addressed or even lampshaded
Isn't it implied that the merchant is the one leaving the paint in RE4R?
I dunno why people are whining about RE4's implementation of it considering it looks significantly more naturalistic than the original breakable assets or being a massive glowy sprite.
>someone just walking around splattering yellow paint on random objects in a place full of crazy villagers and cultists infected by weird parasites
>naturalistic
yes? have you played the original RE4? The breakables are in an entirely different fidelity, they stick out like sore thumbs like any old school cartoon that has a background element be animated.
Wow, so you're telling me that all the interactable objects in RE4 were perfectly visible without needing to smear mustard on them? Imagine that!
because they don't appear natural, yes. and the yellow boxes appear to be more natural because they actually are on a equal playing field fidelity wise.
Does the background cell animation comparison just not work because you zoomers have never watched any classic cartoon?
>clearly visible while still looking natural enough
Why was yellow paint necessary again? I thought it was a natural instinct in any gamer to break barrels and crates?
>why was yellow paint necessary
they brought the barrels and boxes up to the same visual fidelity as the background, and had to find a different visual tell for whether or not the asset is in fact breakable.
>and had to find a different visual tell for whether or not the asset is in fact breakable.
They're barrels and crates. Anyone who actually plays videogames sees wooden barrels and crates then tries to break them for loot. Especially people who played re4 before, and know barrels and crates have loot in them.
The past decade has allowed gaming to become a normal hobbie for normalfriends, so the past 40 years of gaming instinct means nothing
they stopped making crates and barrels breakable, so they had to put yellow paint on the ones that were.
>hardware limitation... le bad
Okay, sure, but that doesn't make
>clashing UI element that only exists to spoonfeed morons... le good
Go listen to the Valve developer commentary about playtesting HL2, it will give you heart palpitations.
>clashing UI element that only exists to spoonfeed morons... le good
the argument is that I think the yellow paint is a more naturalistic solution in the case of the RE4 barrels, they blend better with the environment and still provide a visual tell. paint or filth getting on barrels and shit IS normal.
>someone on the final fantasy reddit was claiming that they are a climber and other clibers often mark routes with yellow paint, so if anything this is more realistic
I don't think I've seen a single pro yellow paint argument that is in good faith.
Hell, there was a mountain climbing segment in the original FF7 where the guy just stuck a red flag on both ends of the climbing spots. Just fricking do that again. Or make it a yellow flag if you really have to stick with the yellow autism.
It was far from perfect but still looked so much better that you sound like a disingenuous twat for claiming it looked worse than the shit demake tries to pass as level design.
>it looked so much better
the pots looked fine but any wooden box or barrel was pretty bad.
They looked so on place it took me a second to even notice you should break them. Stop lying, you blind ass goblin.
you should go to an eye doctor then. because you can't see for SHIT
Is it? That's my headcanon from now on.
>Who the frick painted a fricking rock wall in the middle of nowhere in FF7 lmao.
You'll be asking that a lot while playing the game because it extends beyond just the flashback. There's even painted ledges on a damn lighthouse lookout.
On 29:37
To me RE4 makes no sense. Someone randomly started painting breakable objects yellow in the village? While in FF7 so far, it's an industrial area in an old path to the reactor.
Then the solution is to change the color to white?
Disingenuous trash like you need a fat lip.
We used to help each other online and use gamefaqs when we were actually lost. And maybe youtube.
Same way as the original, have a button to toggle to show icons above intractable action points without compromising the art design of the game itself. How hard is it to be a faithful fricking remake?
I would just turn the sequence into a cutscene because I am a capitalist and I will stop at nothing to gain a wider audience and more profit.
Tifa: Hey Cloud, think we can climb up those ledges?
KH3 proved that having a character bark every time there's something interactable nearby that it'd get extremely annoying very quickly.
It was annoying in KH3 because it was fricking Donald and Goofy saying it.
Every time the pawns bark about anything in Dragon's Dogma is kino.
>Every time the pawns bark about anything in Dragon's Dogma is kino
That’s because those frickers are constantly on the lookout for ingredients. It’s fine for one-time things
do you think this will be the only cliff face in the game
...but that's already what happens in FFVII remake and every other JRPG for that matter...? Why are weebs so disingenuous?
>every other JRPG for that matter
don't remember that happening in Chrono Trigger.
I wouldn't put a climbing section there.
Literally just a UI arrow like any reasonable game. Having an immersive in-universe thing makes no sense at all.
>guide the player?
Here your issue, how about letting the player search and learn himself?
Funnily enough, "free climbing" on Horizon Zero Dawn is literally that (which basically make their "guide climbing" idiotic)
>how about letting the player search and learn himself?
>Assuming they can learn
>chose the most brain damaged imbred moron on the planet as a playtester
Gee i wonder what could happen.
If they are moronic and plan like shit of course its going to be extra work.
And of course PC players will have to roll their sleevs and fix the shit by themselves.
>inb4 i dont know or care if this nostalgia driven shit in particular will come to pc.
That's the thing, you will always find an idiot that can't put 2 and 2 together.
Some people wouldn't be to count to 10, yet, nobody will say that they should not put a "counting" puzzle in their game because of that.
>only lost for 30 minutes
So why not let him continue? Getting stuck for hours used to be normal, you could always give up and look up where to go if it was too difficult for you.
>they
Your pic is about 1 (one) fricking moronic playtester causing the game to be dumbed down by the devs. This is stupid, you'll ALWAYS find a negative IQ clown getting lost in a straight hallway. Frick them. If you start to coddle them you may as well hire DSP as a level designer.
>he doesn't know
Please tell me this isn't real, I'm afraid to check.
It makes way too much sense and would explain a lot about the sorry state of modern vidyas.
you are living under a rock, anon.
And I was happier that way, now I have to live with the knowledge that DSP truly is ruining video games.
Not DSP anon, the average gamer.
>give attention to morons
>even just to laugh at them
>corporate morons don't know the difference and just hone in on attention
>everything else gets drowned out to the tune of subject engagement bullshit
it's not like this was an unforeseen turn of random events, except for maybe who got the spotlight for grand moron.
Moss growing on the ledges. So it's just verdant green and hanging down slightly.
Wow that was so hard.
See
Even the people defending this (it's objectively bad design, cope harder) couldn't explain why there wouldn't be an option to just turn it off.
Or better yet, make it work like an actual VIDEO GAME and give the PC something like a magic spell or item that turns on Braindead moron Mode when used. Almost like every single videogame in the mid-oughts with Eagle Vision and such.
This "problem" was solved a decade ago and we have only regressed since then.
>option to turn off an asset
I think the obvious reason is that the devs aren't going to spend even more time making 2 sets of high fidelity cliff faces so a handful of autists stop throwing a fit on the internet
Anon, I know you're a dumbass who doesn't know what he's talking about and you defend corporations that don't care about you online to feel valued, but it's literally just a single line of code not rendering the texture painted on these surfaces if a settings option is enabled.
any amount of extra work is extra work being performed to appease you morons, and you are a minority. no AAA game is going to do the thing you ask, sorry I'm being realistic.
Thanks for validating my decision to not buy or play AAA games for at least the last decade, corpocuck.
how am I the cuck when I'm not letting yellow paint cuck me out of playing the game exactly
>mmm yes I will consume the slop even as I acknowledge that AAA devs don't put effort into their games and feel entitled to my money
>frick my paycheck harder mr. Publisher AAAAAAAAA I'M CONSOOOMING!!!
>spend even more time making 2 sets of high fidelity cliff faces
The entire game would take a single day...
>get the original cliff texture
>saturate the yellow hue hue hue
>whip codemonkey to develop a toggle option to replace all textures with a _A for the ones with a _B
moron alert
visibility changing on difficulty isn't what you're asking for, and exceptions to the rules always exist.
>isn't what you're asking for
It has the EXACT same implementation, moron-kun
>click a setting
>changes opacity on a texture
>it's exactly the same if I'm incredibly reductive about the breadth of changes that accompany it
ok
xenoblade 3 makes most climbables vivid purple and slap giant climbing pick icons on top of them, they're even less naturalistic than the yellow paint and you should embarrassed you tried to use that as an example
>if I'm incredibly reductive about the breadth of changes that accompany it
What exactly is the breadth of changes that accompany implementing the exact same solution on a different part of the settings menu? Elaborate.
I'd take XB3's approach over 7R's any day
that would be a smart option and SE hasn't been about doing that for ages
the frick are you talking about
You've conjured the "2 high fidelity assets" out of your ass, I've tried to clear your dunning-kruger with an already existing example of turning off visual aides. It's also an isolated setting, if that's your hang up.
It should be the other way around. There should be a cripple mode so morons can play the game.
most people seem to scoff at the idea of games having options like that. how dare you be able to turn on/off indicators, have ui scaling of individual elements and turn off screen shake
Just make the climable area much lighter than the surrounding rocks so there's a pathway up or just make a 30 minute cutscene where Sephiroth talks about having to climb those rocks to get up while Cloud fellates and strokes his ego more just to pad the filler remake more
i'd use bird shit on the ledges. i'm not even joking, it's realistic and noticeable.
Sly Cooper style blue sparkles
Good post. Phenomenological orientation. Patrician.
Voice direction. For example:
Sephiroth would tell Cloud (The Player): "You see that ledge, Cloud? There's a way up, look for rocks jutting out to give you the best chance at scaling the cliff."
If you're a cheap bastard, then make the paint look like it's apart of the environment, like make it glow like there's materia residue, or have it be moss. I mean for God's sake, a child could figure this out.
>Team mates pointing out a hidden path
>Some bird shit on ledges
>Hidden cache flag above ledge
>Yuffie orgasms when close to loot
>Good lighting and shadows
Pick any
>Mark on minimap with no other clues
Pick any
Black person
PIIIIIIIIISSSSSS
These idiots defending the use of these super lazy yellow paint markings are so fricking pathetic. All they can do is kiss a corporation's ass because they think they're apart of their family or something, GET A FRICKING GRIP, YOU c**tS. Sony isn't your fricking dad, or your brother, stop acting like a religious zealot and have some self-respect.
>how would YOU guide the player?
Why would I need to do that?
perhaps like grass patches only on the climbable rocks???
because an extruded block of rock would naturally have some soil on top of it? and probably some grass would grow there?
you know. like nature????
game developers pander to literal 80iq idiots. it is all so tiresome
It's more about lazyness than pandering. If all this shit was optional (and, you know, unneccessary because you incorporated the signposting into your level design from the beginning), nobody would mind it. Now it's just a band-aid solution to boost the player engagement through playtime.
There is literally one path and it involves holding up on your left stick. Why do players need guidance? Jesus christ.
it's a cliff with vegetation on it.
They could have used flowers.
It's a path to the Mako Reactor where presumably people worked at.
If you need to climb to get there because the bridge is out have a "detour" sign or make Tifa point it out.
>200 replies of morons arguing about the proper way to hammer nails into your dick instead of wondering if it's even necessary in the first place
all so tiresome
i wouldnt chase dumb as a rock audience
i think it would be a decent option to toggle if you're having difficulty. but it should be an option and you should be able to turn it off
correct,
perhaps this is the case already,
didn't play the demo, are there any accessibility options?
Unironically give me final vision/fantasy instinct.
Gaiadance
STOP THAT GAMEDEV
Is there at least a setting in game to turn this shit off?
Same way they did in the old days.
Vines.
You should know that vines are actually terrible for climbing and can almost never support a grown adults body weight.
That doesn't mater.
Women are designing and also play-testing video games.
This is the current state of things.
Video games are dead.
Goodbye.
My thoughts exactly. They're designing for and marketing to women. Scooping up morons is just a bonus.
Add a game journalist mode that you can turn on and it points you in the right direction, solves puzzles, gives you 300% health, etc.
all this yellow paint bullshit has told me is that game developers have some magical ability to find sub-90 IQ morons with zero sense of curiosity to playtest their games.
>anon discovers AAA games are made with the lowest common denominator in mind
these things cost one shitzillion dollars to make, of course they're going to try to make it as idiot proof as possible.
Like I don't think the people buying every console exclusive are also buying and beating every souls games, they serve different userbases.
the only reason you know to break barrels and crates in RE4 is because of how they clashed with the environment originally.
I'm well aware that games are made for normalgays that don't even like videogames. So I'm going to speak up about features aimed at such people and hard-built into videogames.
They already have:
>Quest logs
>Waypoints
>Compass HUD (with waypoint markers on them)
>Minimaps (with waypoint markers on them)
>Map menu (you get the idea)
No paint isn't gonna' make them drop a game and poor Sony loses a dollar, so quit being disingenuous for "teh lulz xP".
Not one. You don't respect your customers, you hire dim-witted morons to program your games because you don't want to pay a fair wage and you are completely out of touch with reality on top of all of that. But go ahead, keep spewing your bullshit thinking you'll be convincing.
Your games are shit and the only reason anyone buys this crap anymore is because of residual nostalgia. You are horrible people, go frick yourselves.
>Sony
I'm talking about Capcom though? Don't you have homework to be doing console kiddie?
imagine being such a schizo you actually think youre talking directly to sony with your nonsense lmao
they exist because people that have been gaming for 20 years are not the primary audience for these story driven single player games full of handholding, and you morons know it you disingenous fricks
shut your trap Black person subhuman
Even if I'm not, this shit still needs to be said. They're human garbage.
>Implying marketers aren't on Ganker
do you think someone whose job is to post on Ganker is going to have any say in how these games are developed?
>Implying marketers don't gather feedback from multiple sites, especially ones where their identity is practically hidden
Are you a moronic?
You have zero sense of how petty these companies are. You're either underaged, a super fanboy whose brain has rotten away, or another bot/shill.
why would they pay someone to shill here youtube, twitter and shit exist
because Ganker leaks like a colander to other sites with larger audiences while seeming more authentic because it's an anon posting on a website notorious for being "outsider."
people love screencapping Ganker and posting it on reddit and twitter.
Why WOULDN'T they, Black person? Have you seen Ganker's 4stat.io traffic?
Any dissent is a threat to their revenue so they have bots or shit-tier employees scanning parts of the internet with significant traffic and it's their job to quell any sign of agitated consumers.
People like you can't be this naive.
>pay
My guess is that it's just cope for their lazy design. They just make a demographic of "never played a video game before and has no learning capacity" and rolled with it. This probably all comes back to inclusivity and diversity nonsense being pushed behind the scenes. If your game cannot be completed by someone in a coma being pushed around by guinea pigs in hamster balls, you're being exclusive.
just dont add a climbing system
This is why you don't buy AAA games. These kinds of decisions are so obviously trend-based and passed around certain circles that permeate big publishers. You won't get this shit from someone who cares about the game they're making.
>Ok, moron, how would YOU guide the player?
Every time the player finds a new handhold Tifa will flash some breasts so they're invested in searching for them.
Manufactured outrage for manufactured hype until the game comes out, then is swiftly forgotten, like the soon to be Palwords.
Remember Hogwarts legacy? Yeah. Me neither.
Dumb schizo
What's schizo about it, moron-kun? It's the truth. Once Rebirth's released, you won't see paint memes anymore.
>headcanon
>also being wrong about palworld
>Ironic shitposter thinks he's funny
I hope you're not Trans too because that'd actually be a joke.
first day here?
>how would YOU guide the player?
i wouldn't. if you can't figure it out on your own then you shouldn't be playing games to begin with.
I'm surprised this guy didn't sudoku after this. This is like the literal gameplay of a child.
That's not fair to children.
>child
A bird could solve it faster.
>Yes Vincent, that's what those barrels need. More yellow paint oh and I best be sure to paint the sky yellow too! I want to capture the true beauty of this world, the yellow upon the stone. Oh and that boss? I must be sure paint the weakness of his soul as yellow glowing eyes. You've done it again Vincent, bravo.
Same way as hundreds of devs in thousands of games before this.
All the more reason to dislike it. It's a tired, antiquated relic of past design. Devs most commonly think of industry progress in terms of graphical fidelity or sex/skin color when more attention should be given to blending all of the elements into a more seamless and cohesive player experience.
>good = bad
>bad = good
If you dont understand, asking for clarification is better than replying with nonsense.
They fricking had guiding arrows in original FF7, use those as both appeasing the retrogays and dumbing it down for normies
They shouldn't be guided. Stop catering to morons.
How did the early 2000's Prince of Persia games do it again? Admittedly it's been ages since I played them but I recall no obnoxious immersion-breaking markings, nor any moments where I was stumped about what part of the screen was interactable.
They had simpler geometry and textures, so a ledge would be much more distinct than some random rocks drawn onto walls
Just have the top of the climbable rocks be a slight shade lighter due to sun exposure? Like games have done for decades?
no. i remember when ezio ran across rome's yellow rooftops and climbed up the the cathedral of florence's bell tower with all its little ledged slathered in yellow paint.
even has an in-universe explanation of why the flags are there
You get what you deserve
just add a spring
Sorry anon but I'm not blind
>Do people unironically not understand why this exists in modern games?
Everyone knows why it exists, it exists because of devs catering to fricking morons.
you'd think this place would be overjoyed at games being designed for them
guaranteed replies
Stolen from Reddit for (you)s. Die early.
if this is the case then why not make it optional? then at the very least you can take screenshots without moronic yellow paint everywhere. non morons can play the game and morons can stare at paint drying.
or better yet redesign your game so you don't have to do a boring stupid wall climbing QTE for 30 seconds as the next area loads (even though the PS5 was supposed to remove loading screens with its future technology ssd that is a gift from god and loads faster than an entire server room of nasa computers).
How could I possibly know a ledge is a ledge otherwise? Its not like a ledge looks like a fricking ledge or anything.
Why not just have climbable vegetation?
That'll be near the end of the game and will probably have yellow flowers or something
idk
Maybe do what asscreed does and you can climb literally almost anything as long as it's not too smooth like a metal wall
when you market to literal 65 iq diversity, you have to make it this fricking obvious. any subtlety will lead to complaints and cries of too difficult.
Why don't people want to discover stuff in games anymore? What's so bad about getting lost or not nothing what to do and trying to find out?
Entitlement complex
>I payed 70 bucks for this game. I shouldn't have to play "Find the path". Just let me get to the good part
This has resulted in devs marking the path, instead of, you know, trimming the fat. Because if they did, than people would complain that the game is too short for what they paid.
>Sephiroth stands by cliff
>tells Tifa and Cloud to hop on
>they grab onto Sephiroth's back
>he jumps up the cliff
fixed + soul
Just make the colors of the ledges you can climb look worn, from years of usage or something.
If the player needs guidance in this situation he is a fricking mongoloid. But if they're considering Rebirth that is kinda their audience.
There'll probably be climbing sections with forks in the climb
extra nanoseconds of padding
Disguised loading screens were unironically a mistake, bring back loading screens where you can move things around like a mini-game.
Fun fact, the vents in callisto generally aren't loading screens as detached camera exploring has shown that most surrounding areas are already loaded in.
It's just the devs didn't know how to actually connect all the areas so disorienting vents became the crutch.
We fully embraced SSD technology old man.
IT IS A STRAIGHT LINE
WHY DO YOU NEED YO GUIDE THE PLAYER IN A STRAIGHT FRICKING LINE
OH NO HE ALMOST FELL!!!
>That one rock crumbling when you grab it
I'm going back in time to sabotage Uncharted's development
>we want the uncharted audience
How in the actual frick does this series still have an audience when its all been downhill since the merger? By all rights this shit should be as much of a laughingstock as Forspoken but somehow, it isn't
It is, but you're seeing a very vocal minority who are paid to say it isn't.
They had 20 years of nostalgia built up before 20 years of shit came along. Those nostalgia-years can keep fanboys sustained for a LONG time, despite the games literally playing nothing like the games they're nostalgic for.
Why does the player need to be guided? Make a better game.
gamers are more moronic than ever and it shows
I wouldn't generalize all of them.
People like your need a punch to the gut.
>Ok, moron, how would YOU guide the player?
Stop drowning every fricking game in a billion post processing effects so the screen is crisp and actually fricking readable at a glance.
Considering all you do is press up as you go, they already have the fricking blue arrow pointing to the bottom of cliff. Leave it at that.
Jesus those textures look like shit
The cliff wall looking like utter shit is a bigger deal than the yellow paint
The demakes are already on hallways, how can any player frick it up?
Nothing is needed since the climbable cliff looks completely different from the climbable part.
I wouldn't change shit. Yellow paint was just a tortanic shitpost about Re4R. It's not that big of a deal.
What other games do this? I'm only aware of it being a thing in nu-RE4
Tendies once again making a mountain out of a mole hill over games they can’t play on their tablet and acting like they are intelligent for pointing out the obvious. Your all morons for falling for this.
A yellow ladder (not a realistic ladder with yellow paint splattered on it) fits in the art direction of a Kirby game.
I wouldn't make a boring ass climbing section
And if I had to I would make it so the player is chasing something at least so they know where to go
>Dude just don't add it.
But it's fricking there, what you're spouting is irrelevant to the conversation. If the climbing section wasn't there with that trashy paintjob, no one would be b***hing about it, so knock it off with this misdirection, butthole.
You're a clown and only focused on the convenient parts of my post, have a nice day
>3rd wave Feminism
>We can talk about both Men AND Women's issues!
>Also 3rd wave Feminism
>We'll GET to your issues, but we need to fix women's issues FIRST because of YOU!
This is your logic.
More misdirection to avoid talking about the topic at hand because you literally have no excuse for this trash.
Why does FF15 look so much better than this shit?
Different engine, linear spaces
You guys lost Gamergate to Zoe Quinn.
Why can't you just take the L with grace? Why use yellow paint of all things as a proxy for your insufferable bitterness towards women?
Nice non-sequitur, you thrice-damned robot.
I'm going to use this to frick with my friends to see what their reactions will be.
>Why use (x) of all things as a proxy for your insufferable bitterness towards (marginalized group)?
Have Tifa climb it too and encourage Cloud to follow her.
This
Also add a tutorial text that interrupts gameplay with low res MP4 showing what just happened.
Do not guide them.
each ledge is now sponsored by different products and you'd have to watch an ad before jumping to the next ledge
>this shit has been in games for over a decade if not longer
>suddenly not ok when japan starts doing it.
huh
the "japan bad" people are the ones defending it
You put happy, hovering icons for X,Y,A,B etc like Ubisoft and everybody else does.
does anybody have that picture of the half life playtester couldnt figure his way out of a cave or something so they had to completely change that section
the only accessibility feature i care about is for low vision. i don't mean literal blind users who can't see shit, with TTS voice narrating the screen.
but fricking tiny tiny UI text. let me scale it. just let me scale the text for fricks sake.
This. My vision isn't even shit, but modern UI text is so fricking small I'm starting to think I need glasses. That's a joke, I've gotten my eyes tested and there's nothing wrong with them.
>how would YOU guide the player?
You simply don't.
Remember when you had to progressively learn the map by yourself without the stupid GPS cancer?
>old devs
proud players got lost in their levels
>new devs
do everything in their power to guide the player
there is a map
there is a fundamental problem of game design and creative ambition causing this problem. developers and designers should be asking themselves why they have the players scaling a cliff face where the game mechanics are Press X to grab the next ledge, without any skill or risk. what's the experiential benefit? why are they breaking the immersion with yellow paint to get the player to experience this?
there are many potential explanations, a lot of them are probably true or, at least, viable. in my mind, it's likely either a economic/temporal budget issue (we designed this because it looked cool, and now we don't have time to change it even though it doesn't really make sense or benefit the experience) or a lack of game design/experience design consideration.
the ideal solution for a game like ff7 having to use yellow paint like this is to step back and consider an alternative route up the cliff face. a ladder anchored at various points into the rocks? a steep staircase worn by hundreds of years of foot traffic? a pulley elevator system? there are many solutions that offer the same level of gameplay (virtually none), but benefit the experience more.
They make games thinking the avarage players are low iq borderline moronic.
make the moss on the sides of each rock more saturated and shaped to make it so the moss and the rocks combined visually look more like a ladder. Also maintain the original brighter color on the rocks without the yellow paint
They're gonna remove the clock room because of Roman numerals aren't they. When the series uses them for titles.
The segment is a hallway, the player is already guided
Exactly so make it absolutely clear there is a wall the player can climb so you don't waste their time looking the other way.
Linear sections need signposting. Big open world areas that you're expected to wander in do not.
THERE ARE ALREADY LEDGES
Why does the player need to be guided when it's a straight hallway and you just hold up to climb?
gamers are dumb. that goes double for the ones playing modern final fantasy. and it goes triple for the ones playing compilationshit
palworld didnt need yellow paint
simple as
The original game had a ladder
>how would YOU guide the player?
Use your fricking eyes and basic common sense
Why not just have a fricking ladder? Lol
That wouldn't be very natural on the cliff face. The yellow paint though...
I wouldn't guide him at all.
I'd listen, and that's what no one else did.
FRICKING NU TOMB RAIDER OF ALL GAMES SOLVED THIS ISSUE ALREADY IN 2018. IT MADE THE YELLOW PAINT STUFF AN OPTION YOU CAN TURN OFF.
And the double-irony is that Square Enix actually published THAT game.
>muh fidelity
Look at this. Here is a modern game with easily discernable hand/footholds.
Honestly I thought this was bad at the time but it's a damn sight better than yellow paint
>Ok, moron, how would YOU guide the player?
Not at all.
Just frick sub 80 IQ players.
The problem is that all their play testing and focus testing is done piecemeal, so they show the testers a piece of gameplay in the middle of the game and the testers go "a buh buh buh i dunno what to do" when no shit they didn't go through the tutorial.
highlighted with light, shadows, shimmer, hand prints, immersive guide (moss, branches, rope)... its not that hard
have another character do it first so the player knows to follow them
This is the best solution in the thread. Why isn't Sephiroth, the leader, or Tifa, THE GUIDE, going first? Tifa is literally the players guide to the reactor she can guide you up a cliff.
>Ok, moron, how would YOU guide the player?
i wouldn't, learn the fricking game or play something easier, it is not even something hard like a combo it is common sense and trying out the enviroment and mechanics
>play something easier
But this IS something easier.
Didn't the original game had some red arrows that you could simply toggle off and on???????
I'm glad I'm not autistic enough to care about this kind of stuff
the ledges that have a clearly different texture to the rest of the rock face.
Make it a quick cutscene. I'm not playing ff for mountain climbing.
A short 5 second cutscene.
All objectives will be marked with yellow paint. It is the way of the future.
I wouldn't because theres no reason to. You can climb up or you can climb down. There is no room for error here.
>resi has had yellow paint/tape since RE7 back in 2017 and every game since.
>no mass outcry
>FF does it
>people lose their fricking minds
What has squeenix done to cause this much assmad?
I think the threads popped up around RE4R. It wasn't a big deal in RE7-RE3R being in a city, I barely remember it in RE7 tbh. But it stuck out the most in 4.
if the player needs to be guided to climb an obviously climbable wall that already has a glowing blue box at the base of it showing you its interactable then they are simply too stupid to play the game, they deserve to be stuck there and uninstall
Yellow bad, red good.
You could turn runner's vision off though. Very disingenuous post.
I had someone argue in a previous thread that it would be okay if it was blood. So yes, red good, yellow bad, it is that simple.
What's the problem here? Most gamers are morons. Devs have to pander to their audience. Y'all just mad because someone told you to be mad?
Why do you morons bother posting on topics you could care less about with stupid shit? Log off!

Why is pandering suddenly ok when it's morons being pandered to?
Come to think of it, pandering to morons used to not be ok. What changed?
Morons spend more money than non-morons because they're too stupid to think for themselves.
I mean ok for anons. Complaining about casuals was all anyone used to do here
Smartphones allow easier access to this site for morons.
Even r/gamingcirclejerk agrees yellow paint needs to go. is there any other gaming topic everyone agrees on?
I would simply not have the clearly outlined interactables be painted yellow for zero reason.
That's some pretty good bait thread OP, has a good laugh.
I wouldn't. Figure it out yourself, moron.
Squaretrannies out in full force today
make a cute flying onahole, she only guides you if you pick journalist mode at the start
>Ok, moron, how would YOU guide the player?
Do it like every game where you climb on a ledge did it before with no problems until they regressed to their solution today? I'm sure we already have 2-3 decades of doing this and I didn't hear anyone complaining about it like ever.
