Gothic's magic system is really underrated. There's a lot of fun stuff you can do with it like controlling an npc, unequip all their armor/weapons and get the otherwise unobtainable guards heavy armor in G1
Man, playing Gothic as a kid vs playing as a Teen was a DRASTICALLY different experience. Once you see beyond the immediate limitations, you realize just how OP abilities are and taking revenge on an otherwise hard world is extremely satisfying
I distinctly remember finding ledges where you could snipe from, such as the SB near the stone circle; turning into an animal and clearing the map (but change back before level-up to get HP); the sheer bullshit you could bypass as a meatbug; getting the bone bow by simply LURING OUT a minecrawler
The entire world is hand crafted so you may out-bullshit it.
>The entire world is hand crafted so you may out-bullshit it.
No it's not lol, none of that is on purpose. There's all sorts of individual boundaries and shit everywhere, it's just a broken mess.
>cannot kill lizards outside the south entrance >get a bow and climb on ruins >cannot beat black goblins >get a bow and climb on hill and/or bait them to fall down and drown >cannot get past minecrawlers >lure them to guards and land the killing blow >cannot beat snappers >become a snapper >cannot beat troll >anal anihilation >cannot reach orc land area >bloodfly scroll >cannot frick any of the girls >kill Gomez
Really only khorinis is well designed, (kind of) fundamentally the flow of the game is very flawed where it's not really fun to play in vacuum, which is why all the other games suck real bad.
>flawed >gothic 2
You're he hecking drunk or just a drone. Anyway youre totally flawed as person even as a living being. Gothic1/2 is nothing but flawless. Well besides chapter 5s on both of those games, i always stop playing on those chapters since i hate the dungeon levels and it's nothing but boring to me. Playing till Capter 3 on both of these game is a masterpiece. 4 is ok
>but hates games that...don't fully or properly utilize the mechanics they establish cohesively
You'll probably hate Gothic or any PB then since it's total incoherent garbage even on the mechanics side, nevermind how the games are STILL buggy as frick after over 20 years worth of community updates
>the first time playing gothic 2 I was jumping around Khorinis plaza until I phased through a wall, the floor and landed in the thieves guild below (I was killed)
Ah yes, the good old classic together with the dungeon underneath the monastery suddenly going underwater because you stepped on the wrong vertices and killing you by air loss.
But hey all games are fundamentally broken pieces of shit amirite
Reminder to all that this gay is a morrowind fan, who is no one to talk about broken games when the shitty game he often praises is a totally unbalanced mess, full of bugs and that doesn't even have a fun combat like gothic
>duuuude look, you point at things... and click! sooo fun combat. Hey but not just that, if you get lucky you may even actually hit the enemy and dealt damage!
Hitting things stops being a thing after like 30 minutes. Look I'm not saying Morrowind's combat is good, but you have to be a massive contrarian to pretend that Gothic 1's combat is anything but awful.
Gothic combat is good because you at least have to time when to attack and when to defend. Plus the feeling of weight, every hit has because the enemies actually react to being damaged. It's a game where you being good at playing matters and not just being overpowered with high stats (even if this will make your life way easier).
Morrowind has no combat mechanics, it has you rolling dice. Gothic has an actual combat system that allows for skill expression. All there is to it.

Wow you totally got me there. Wow you totally just exposed this game. Playing this game in solid 60 fps where this gsme meant to be played on lower fps gap and not 60 fps and beyond. Of course these mobs will get stuck like this.
maybe if you morons didn't shit on morrowind's combat like it was your job people wouldn't expose gothic's combat for being even shittier. live by the sword moron.
Showing pathing problems in a game from 2001 doesn't prove shit. Even less when we're in fricking 2023 and that crap still happens. And you know well the AI for morrowind is worse. I'm playing it right now and the enemies npcs sometimes don't even react and enter in combat after 5 seconds since you approached to them
i like gothic but man are the playstyles insanely unbalanced
once you hit 60% in bows you can dump dex and you'll be so much stronger than melee ever can and mage can only outpace you a little bit with those big aoe spells like fire rain and wave of death
I deleted that piece of crap 20 minutes ago after getting stuck on some perfectly flat surface because the collision was randomly not there in the middle of it. It was my 10th hour or so. Frick, i ain't even afraid of bugs. Back in the day, i played pirate russian version of Arcanum that we bought with a friend with a CD-R to burn a second one because neither of us had the money for a copy and the local shop had one in stock anyway. But that just wasn't worth it. >that camera >that combat >that motherfricking literal pop-a-mole AI >8 years and 3 kickstarter campaigns
Those Samara bastards must have thought they are the next Ice-Pick Lodge. What a waste of a setting and amazing work of the artist and modellers.
sell me on Gothic as someone interested in new experiences games have to offer, but hates games that...don't fully or properly utilize the mechanics they establish cohesively
If you try Gothic 1 and 2 and like it, then you will enjoy Archolos, it's a amazing total conversion mod for Gothic 2 available for free on steam and gog if you own Gothic 2, and please play with the polish voice over and english subtitles, even if you don't understand polish the voice acting really adds to the experience.
This game surpasses Gothic 2 imo.
It's fricking crazy how Ludokino like this was created so long after the original game released which remains relatively obscure.
pole mods are literally are outlandishly mile times better than russkie brainded coding and omega broken mods. The amount of POLLEish this mod went through is incredible. literally couldn't play diccuric(even though it had trippy atmosphere i liked) and that other weird mod with the orc cave (at least the first chapter was fine but the rest are omega fricking broken shit).
You'll be demoted back to the "troony" rank on the official chud leaderboards if you don't play it.
You'll be locked to doing the dilation, coping, and seething radiant quests as your only means to rank up.

Believe me, the pop up menus will be the least of your worries
it's inconsistent. my runs with gothic 1, and even though gothic 2 was way more polished than gothic 1, were good. i never experienced bugs and and ground breaking glitches somehow, even without community patches because i played it on old hardware when i was a kid. community patches only applies to modern hardware that's all.

the alpha version was supposed to be for the consoles but they scrapped it entirely. The game in its early development was an entirely different game and they even used motion capture.
>i never experienced bugs and and ground breaking glitches somehow
Yeah, sure bro, you totally didn't experience falling through the walking meshes, accidentally teleporting behing doors, getting animation locked while sliding down a slope or all the other shit, I totally believe you.
Literally never. As I said it's inconsistent for other players. >falling through the walking meshes,
Never saw it. Only the meshes on gothic 2, after i break it on purpose, but even then it wasn't a walking meshes, just a path mesh. Above addanos's temple >accidentally teleporting behind* doors
Never ever happened to me. Only if I abuse this mechanic on purpose, for example with the transformation scrolls. >getting animation locked while sliding down a slope
Never happened to me in my vanilla runs, but it did happen to me with the DX11 mod for some reason and it's a gothic 2 bug thing I know it. As I remember. And it definitely did happen to other players while even playing vanilla but for me? nah never happened. So it's safe to say, it's also inconsistent.
Every game that exists has broken shit in it and everyone experiencing them differently beforehand or at the same time, and after that only if you replayed the game you like billion of times maybe you will see them. Even rockstar games has little of jank in them, just a little. Even rdr2 had and still has broken shit.

NTA but skeletons were the worst type of enemy as they barely make any noise, hit like a truck and they can climb and fall off a ledge
zombies were creepy as frick but at least they made noise when they saw you and you could kite them
the other enemies you could either outrun or stunlock to some degree
skellies were nothing but a gear check if you couldn't isolate them and they dropped nothing of value either
the best that the "from zero to hero" genre has to offer
that being said, gothic 1 was and still is absolutely miserable to play as it crashes like crazy
gothic 2 might be better to start with if you find that unbearable
