is this a spooky game?
sorta, just in that you're exploring abandoned areas. there aren't any enemies.
there is an easter egg that's freaky but you'd have to really go out of your way to find it.
for the most part it's just a very comfy Source Engine game.
not even close to being spooky if you arent a complete homosexual
It is a bit creepy but more in the sense of being oppressively lonely (also known as comfy), but there are scary moments, but most of them you wouldn't be able to encounter unless you google the correct sequence.
yes, I shidded myself twice
if you have the fear of nothing
yes
It has angry mobs
Have they made any more gaems?
Obenseuer has recently been revamped but I would personally wait on it a bit
Obenseuer is great if you liked the more messed up parts of the INFRA story and want more, as long as you don't mind the more amateurish graphics. But yeah I would also recommend waiting since the story in the current early access version ends right as soon as it starts to get interesting.
>more messed up parts
Those worked in INFRA because of the contrast; they were unexpected in what was an otherwise realistic depiction of Finland.
It wasn't Finland. Stalburg is in a Scandinavian country, probably Sweden
It's actually a chunk of both
https://stalburg.net/Stolland
That's interesting. Thanks anon
*a chunk of both norway and sweden
fug :DD
But that would be in-between Norway and Sweden?
It's definitely supposed to be in part eastern Finland, I have a feeling that map isn't official since the dev wanted to keep the exact location hidden
That map was made by the devs.a
Huh, yeah seems like that would be the case.
Frick, I don't know, the placement seems moronic but then again it is a fictional world and I guess one shouldn't look too deep into it.
It is a bit weird, the country's original name was different in 2016 too, that's why the domain name is .ts
I think it's just meant to be a fixtionalized country with elements of both, like Lubrowka in Grand Budapest.
there's an item in obenseuer that references that map so i think its canon
that map is fan fiction.
now that they made a world full of 3d objects in it they could work on npcs, gameplay and story next
>scares the shit out of you
The only thing that scares me is constructions that aren't up to code.
>hairline crack in a cement pillar
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I'M GOING INSAAAAANE
That's not good
Mark's voice haunts me every time I see some damaged infrastructure while walking around the city.
You too, eh? This will take more than just a new coat of paint
Something tells me that isn't supposed to be like that.
>diagonal crackline on wall
AIEEEEEEEEE
>marathon Infra
>go back to playing BF4
>every map is concrete buildings with holes torn out from tank shells/grenades showing rebar
>muscle memory kicks in and try equipping camera to take a picture of it
>realize I'm a fricking moron
>Let's hope the rebar holds until the repairs
Dads ten peks of kemra badderies :DDDDD
truly the crowning achievement of the finnish race
On my last playthrough I took screenshots of every document I could find and spent a few hours working out the story in a word document. I felt like a conspiracy theorist connecting threads on a corkboard.
I think I understand most of it, but all the stuff involving Morko, the wasteland, and the secret bad ending in Turnip Hill went way over my head.
What I really couldn't grasp at first was whether or not I could trust my employer with the evidence, which is why I didn't take most photos of docs in the beginning. Yes, I am autistic. Anyone else?
Same. It just tells that game is really working with how it nailed the atmosphere.
I might be autistic for real, no diagnose though.
Most of that is part of the ARG. My personal schizo theory that I've posted before boils down to this:
>the underground god we find (ugu) is not the only one
>there's at least 3; one for each mushroom variety (green/red, blue, and orange)
>each one can control their own morkos
I say this because each type of mushroom has different effects. The blue mushroom heals and restores. The orange mushroom (found in the coal mine) agitates. The green/red mushrooms are corrupted.
Also there are multiple morkos. At least three types. The one we see in the tunnel, the one we see in the coal mine, and the one you see when you drink the red can coffee.
The red coffee one is clearly more damaged or corrupted than the rest. It's hard to see but it is definitely different.
(1/?)
I didn't want to trust him either, especially after the true ending.
I mean, don't worry about being on the spectre because it's only logical you should watch your back when you try to snoop behind someone else's back.
Also really liked how they nailed the atmosphere of urbex. Check out some vids from this channel, a guy exploring abandoned shit mostly in Eastern Europe, looks very similar to what you see in infra.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClgb94T-hBEFhOv5pwVFbhQ
So, how does the green/red mushrooms, and the corresponding morko, tie to another underground god?
In the SNW notes, they mention finding a statue and experimenting l on it in the bunker. That's also where they "developed" the mushroom virus.
We know there was a terrible accident down there that required an immediate evacuation, that a morko was involved, and it wasn't just the subway crash.
The wasteland is said to be a direct result of SNW's actions. It can't also be a coincidence that the same train model is in both places. The coded notes mention people being trapped in the wasteland.
So here's what I think happened. SNW fricked up bad, really bad. I'm not 100% sure how, it's most likely part of the ARG. They might have sacrificed the train crash victims to the god. "GOD OF UNDERGROUND KEEPS EVERYONE HERE" is one of the coded messages.
And whatever they did fricked up the god as well, changing the green/red mushrooms to the corrupting influence they are in the present.
Dude, lay off the mushroom tea, seriously.
The ARG is fricking insane, man. It's a shame we'll never see the fricking conclusion.
>It's a shame we'll never see the fricking conclusion.
Has this been confirmed? Aren't they going to continue with Infra, the story and the ARG after and maybe during Obenseuer?
Apparently it's supposed to continue in Whiprock, but we'll see.
There might be clues in Obenseuer, especially now.
I have a feeling we'll have to wait until the swamp is added into the game and they finish the mines before we get any proper clues, scoured through Obenseuer pretty extensively without finding anything but then again I think I miss the eye for that kind of details.
Did you get the osrat? iirc the blackboard in that room has a bunch of cryptic stuff on it, and activating it in specific areas of the game might reveal some more clues as well.
I did, only found 2 or 3 places where I could activate it though after running around with it for a while and those places were pretty much a dead giveaway where you should use it.
Nothing much stood out on the blackboard for me other than some instructions on operating the thing, nothing that I found important enough to memorize at least.
Also that secret ending probably involved you going into the tunnels currently in use by the glowies, that's why they Jacobs laddered your ass
The mystery is more interesting than the reveal, every time.
Nice timing, since I'm currently replaying
>tfw no whiprock DLC
I NEED IT
My headcope is the DLC's been finished for years and the devs are waiting on the community to solve the ARG before they drop it
Yes, that's what I think too.
>mc swears
why is it so funny
Welcome!
>Just wanna ogle at the cool maps
>Nooo you gotta look through that annoying little camera all the time and click on everything
No thanks, I'd rather save meself a full game's price for a sourcemod and stick to exploring Gmod maps in VR.
how do you find good gmod maps to explore?
This collection is a pretty good starting point.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2921915997
>not appreciating the autism that went into the camera having its own lighting and bloom
I was sorta into exploring and stuff in this but I hit the 6 hour mark and it felt like it was just dragging on and on and then I found out that I wasn't even 1/3rd through and all my motivation to keep playing left me
what am I missing out on?
The second act has a lot of the fun conspiracy stuff in it.
You're missing out on quite a lot, but if the game failed to get your interest within the 6 hours it might just not be for you
I was enjoying it for the most part but pumping station and some parts of the steel factory were incredibly exhausting
Oh man frick that water treatment plant. I figured out the other two but frick that first one
You're missing out on more of the same really.
alright i'll try it
but if it's boring i will complain
just depends on the type of person you are.
if you're not familiar with finnish autism you may have a difficult time with the game
what is finnish autism
Neat game but it overstayed the frick out of its welcome: Being a janitor in boring Finnish Black Mesa was pretty alright, but past the radio mast area I basically just wanted to be done with the game. The background plot was mostly corny and what the frick was up with 5 hours of society dropout-ville?
Autism+
it might be a bit long right now, true. i first played it when there was only part 1. then i continued when they released 2. same for 3.
Playing from start to finish felt like an actual fricking journey.
I want another autistically detailed exploration sim type of game I can get lost in for days.
>finnish autism
you mean spurdo?
Pretty sure he means how most Finnish games have a lot of what some people could call autistic mechanics in them and or autistic attention to detail.
Spurdo is probably the least autistic thing to come out of Finland.
Picture somewhat related, the most based assburger in Finland
> That doesn't look right.
Dats three peks of badderies for de flashlayt
How is the INFRA Underground mod? Worth reinstalling the game for it?
I liked it. The guy who made it (also a finnish dude) came to my stream and was very chill. Its more INFRA, if you like INFRA, play it.
do finns really
Workplace saunas?
Yes
Beats the fricking gym. Like who even thought of that shit. Like yeah I'm gonna go work my ass off and then work my body too. Frick off
i love how even the homeless camps have saunas
finns literally cannot imagine a world without their steam rooms
did you know that finns go to sauna naked with their children
I have five packs of flashlight batteries left.
>gets sent to some abandoned midle of nowhere to survey it
>fixes some power generators
>fixes and reattaches hydro dam powerplant to the grid
>collapses some tunnels causing chain reaction all over the city
proceeds to travel all over the city and fix shit nobody asked him to fix
>prevents nuclear meltdown
>still have six packs of camera batteries left
Is that a typical day of work in finland?
I just started the game (chapter 3, tunnel) and the chronology kinda bothers me. The dam and the woodcutting factory supposedly were closed in 1982, yet I am supposed to believe they are still operatable and in such a great condition 25 years later (judging by a smartphone that Mark is using)?
Everything looks like it was abandoned for a couple of years tops, the lamber straight up looks like the people working there just left for the holidays. It's so weird, dudes.
Don't question it too much. Also there are usually hints of people being around, sometimes you may even see them, you just don't interact with them at all usually.
I totally forgot those parts were supposed to be abandoned for so long since later on you're going through the water plants and shit where the people working there are literally out for lunch that day.
i dont think the water plant is supposed to be abandoned. the dam itself is left to rot though.
My favourite parts of the game were where you felt like you were interacting with real systems, and the least favourite parts were where the artifice/puzzle nature became apparent. I liked that some systems you encountered could be ignored or skipped if you wanted.
Annoyingly there's very little else that's like this. I was hoping Nucleares would scratch the "running a big system" itch, what with being about operating a nuclear power plant, but currently it gives you way too little information to know what you're doing. Hopefully that improves in future.
I have 67 packs of flashlight batteries
>Game has a single female character
>She's a total b***h and obviously voiced by a man
I got this on my wishlist and i'm expecting peak comfy urban exploring with a bit of Outer Wilds style secret hunting/puzzle solving, is this about right?
Ye
Bros i just want a sex simulator
https://map.stalburg.net
Map
this is my favorite game of all time. something about it just clicked with me. exploring the ruined factory environments and especially the city offices and side alleys is extremely comfy. i wish there were more urban exploration focused games.
The dream would be a version of this game but with slightly more openness and with a bit more of the ""immersive sim"" to it. More ways to get to where you want to go, systems that effect different parts of the map - if you fix this water treatment plant you're doing your job right, and it opens up some tunnels for navigation by boat but floods other passages.
That might be too ambitious though and the way they accomplished it was still very good.
I played this for a few hours then looked up a guide to see how much I'd missed and immediately started crying.
iktf, the first time I played I didn't realize you could fix the dam
I can relate
the city looks a lot like helsinki. swedish cities have older (and prettier) architecture. even the map is similar to helsinki.
Everything after secret underground shit was boring
Bunker? Can't agree. Though the boat ride to nuclear plant is probably my least favourite part.
this game made me mad for having some very moronic game design choices, but less than a year later i have a very weird urge to re"play" it
The entire obenseur area was such a slog
the one with appartments-hopping? i liked it, made the game feel alive for a while
the tunnels were boring tho
Recycling bottles to scrape together enough coins got tedious really quickly. I'm pretty sure it's also possible to soft lock the game if you don't have enough coins. I had to use some obscure Easter egg to get a load of coins just to speed it up.
>I'm pretty sure it's also possible to soft lock the game if you don't have enough coins.
it totally is, also you can stick basically any object you can pick up including fuses into the machine and it'll accept them (but not give you coins)
i hope they eventually do a full-blown sequel
>Sequel called STRUCTURE
>Tunnel collapsing over his face
>Takes picture
>I don't thingg id's meandt to be like dat :DDDD
what was the most memorable part?
for me, it's the fricking flood in the tunnel, i genuinly got a panic attack
when i first climbed the mill tower and saw how huge the city around me was. i had no expectations really when going into the game and simple attention to detail like that really caught me off guard.
This, the devs clearly put an absurd amount of effort in trying to make sure all the maps properly connect in the world they built. The devs even made a map of the whole city with circles of where the ingame maps take place on it https://map.stalburg.net/
That's fricking cool.
I want to see a full replica of stalburg in cities skylines or, probably more appropriately workers& resources or something like that.
The puzzles in this game were kinda annoying to deal with
A lot of the time it felt like you were pushing random buttons and you never got any confirmation you were doing the right thing
it strives for realism
i couldn't have fun without a 100% walkthrough. sorry sisters, but it was either like that, or i'd never played it till the end
started playing it, I love the environments and atmosphere though i feel like im missing a lot of things
>i feel like im missing a lot of things
You are
Early derelicts were comfy
The entire Hammer Valley is, true
i love when games have whiteboards that actually have some info on them and are not just props
INFRA has us covered there
>small pp
heh
hehe benis :D:D oh fugg
I appreciate the attention to detail of writing across both pages, realizing your mistake halfway through, and having to squeeze letters in next to the holes in the page.
good night, sweet prince
The mushroom wheelchair body basement and the diary stuff around it fricked me up a bit.
any game like this? i heard about pinecreek murders or something?
painscreek killings? it has some similar vibes, but at the same time has a totally different tone. its still fun if you like exploration puzzle games like infra.
Eh, it's not about property surveying but I thought KONA was cool as a detective sim. Rural Quebec village in the 1960s during a blizzard and you're investigating a crime. Mostly looking around with survival elements (you can't get too cold).
>find key
>walk around until you find the right door
>there's a key behind it
>repeat for 10 hours
you just got the painscreek killings experience
if you end up liking painscreek, you could try ether one. nothing like infra though.
loved the tense escape segments in this game
for me this is the track i still return to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41HPGsZEEHM
its somehow very soothing, almost nostalgic
>infra thread doesn't die after 10 posts
it's a christmas miracle
How's it compared to The Painscreek Killings?
longer, has actual puzzles, has more extensive plot and lore, has a more distinct atmosphere. still, its a more niche game overall imo, as the conspiracy stuff and decaying environments with autistic levels of detail isnt for everyone (as opposed to a murder mystery in a small town setting). if you think urban exploration is cool as a concept, youll probably like infra.
>Painscreek Killings
Extra cheap atm, I'll try it out, nice
This game is a fricking rollercoaster of expectations
>think it's gonna be a straightforward inspection adventure with no spooks
>find the garage corpse
>finish tunnels without anything scary happening even though the cave notes suggested something scary
>obviously miss out on morko
>huh so it's about some conspiracy instead of supernatural
>the conspiracy sounds bullshit and the audiolog dude is a crank
And then it just escalates in all directions all the way until the end
>>find the garage corpse
What was up with that? I don't remember that leading anywhere.
Don't think it was mentioned ever again later in the game. And IIRC we still don't know who it was.
It's related to ARG and there is code around the body for people to decipher. I also remember the Morse code in a vhs tape in metro control room
I played this game before. I didn't get very far because I am a moron. Been wanting to try again for the first time in years. Do I have to have any actual knowledge about civic maintenance or engineering or do I just need to pay better attention and be less moronic?
>need to pay better attention and be less moronic?
This. Exploring a bit of an area before trying to touch anything usually bumps you into some notes or hints as to what needs to be done.
boo!
Not gonna read the thread to avoid spoilers, but what is the game about? What do you do? I know it's a puzzle game of some sort, but what kind of puzzles?
You play as a structural engineer, who explores the city's key points for any anomalies or issues, after a big scandal went down regarding corruption and shit.
Great 'URBEX' vibes, and some nice puzzles. Lots of secrets and easter eggs. Pretty down to earth with the puzzles and systems you interact with, they sometimes resemble ICU's really well.
Source engine games are fricking apex comfy.
Games where you explore abandoned utility tunnels and factories are also apex comfy.
I enjoyed INFRA and Portal 2 immensely for these reasons. It's also why I didn't mind the pacing of HL2 which many found dull.
It is honestly nice to see this game popping up on Ganker, it is the perfect autism game, if you like exploring shit.
Other games that might fill the void might be Narcosis, or ADR1FT.
Openseuer is their next hit, still in a rough shape, but slowly getting there.
his job seems so comfy what kind of education does it require?
Wait, this isn't a Noita thread. The image from the post above the post above my post confused me. My bad.
I'm here to discuss the greatest waling simulator ever made
This dude has nothing on Mark
Can Mark walk from the east coast of the US to the west coast?
provided there are enough poorly maintained dingey tunnel systems on the way, yeah
Yes, and repair every power plant on the way. He just doesn't need to.
This game is based and surprisingly accurate at least when it comes to water treatment
A geocache
morko isn't real he can't hurt you
>hurt
He does nothing, he'll just drop you out of the next door
It's always sad to see people who had to go through crystal treatment. I know that it saves lives, but the mark that it leaves on the body is terrible.
ohoho
soul
The Painscreek Killings is good as well
My friend who works at nuclear power plants loves this game to death.
