I agree. The DS translation especially gets too much hate imo. They should have kept Frog's old timey stuff, but otherwise it was really good.

Although, Marle screaming into the heavens out of despair at the top of Death Peak was handled better by the SNES translation.

                >it's a recon not to lose face
So they changed it to picking the same name that was already being used by someone else and got forced into changing it to make it look better than initially coming up with Final Fantasy on their own? If anything I'd argue the myth became the legend because they were too embarrassed of having to admit their first choice was taken by someone else, which would arguably show them to be unimaginative.

Mana was never going to be a huge deal in the long run. Koichi Ishii, the main dude behind the series, was never interested in pursuing some creatively cohesive vision with the series. He instead opted to experiment with different genres and weird mechanics, which led to series completely falling apart during the 6th gen. It's a shame, too, because Trials of Mana laid some really good foundations for an ARPG formula. Unfortunately, the series never really built off those foundation, aside from the remake of the game itself.

That, and the cast is memorable.

I think Chrono Trigger is the best classic JRPG ever made for the simple reasons you Anons stated. There's nothing it really does BADLY unless you consider lack of high difficulty a bad thing in games. The characters are memorable and charismatic, the sprites are expressive and fun, Mitsuda's soundtrack is fantastic, the game's concept of traveling through time is done well and even gives you more freedom than your typical JRPG as far as changing elements of the story go (hell, you can literally let the main character stay dead, how many games actually let you do that?), the lack of random battles and the use of techs make battles more enjoyable than standard fare at the time, dungeons aren't a slog and no section of the game wears out its welcome imo, and the game features some of the most memorable sidequests ever made in a JRPG.

Everything it does it just does so damn well that it's hard to deny its greatness. It may not be your favorite JRPG but I don't think there's a single JRPG of its era that simultaneously nails presentation, gameplay, and story as well as it does.

EarthBound gives you enough + you have a banking system. Play DQ if you want something even more limited.

I don't like saying this, but millenials were the last generation to have a small percentage of their demographic born with an actual soul. Zoomers are almost universally transhuman degenerates raised by smartphone apps. There's literally no way to sincerely communicate with them. i played this on DS like 5 years ago. i was filtered by giga gaia.

ended up beating that big piece of poop, but then the empire's palace or whatever is where i gave up

i did not like how the team that i picked couldnt get me through the game.

if it's gonna be a story rpg with multiple characters, i'd rather the director just put certain members in my party

also, being forced to figure out weaknesses through trial and error was pretty lame

game is good though i recommend it to people who enjoy single player rpgs, Chrono Trigger is just not my cup of tea

Yeah, I replayed it a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing. The only slow or grindy part was when I fought through the Black Omen in each era to steal all the best gear, and that was just conpletely optional junk I wanted to do. I like the characters and their interactions, I absolutely love the music and the setting, I like how it has a simple, well constructed, not pretentious story.
In terms of gameplay I like not having random encounters, I like using dual and triple techs, I like that there is absolutely no need to grind.

Chrono Trigger is a solid game, but it is wanked to oblivion for one primary reason: tendie bias, same with FF VI and REmake being wanked to oblivion.
If it was an early PS1 game with Everything being the same it wouldn’t be renowned the way it is now.
Tendies are like this, they seethe at FF 7-10 (PS1-PS2 games) and RE4 (Capcom sold tendies out releasing the game on PS2) for the same reason

I wouldn't know, I dropped console war homosexualry over 20 years ago when I was a teenager. All the games you listed have been widely available on basically all platforms for decades, it's time to give it a rest.
