I don't get where the "NPCs" hate you thing comes from. That really only happens in the Mystery Dungeon games where you get banished by the village or the guild or something, why would it happen in mainline pokemon if the protagonists of those games were never put in positions to be loathed by the community?
It comes from rivals being edgy in the early games and then becoming friendly in the modern games. People who have never had friends don't feel comfortable unless characters in video games treat then the same way bullies treat them in the real world.
