It's a tendency among people to associate creative output with a brand instead of the actual creatives who made it. You see it not just with video games, but also TV shows, anime, etc. As long as the studio / company name is the same, they assume the end result will be the same.
Honestly true.
That's why I don't push back against auteur theory, it's obviously not 100% accurate but it's way truer than just associating everything with faceless corporations/brands.
Some people are literally fundamental to certain projects and have great leadership and creative input that makes the thing happen. People who, not for money, but for their effort and ideas, make the project happen. Are you really going to go so far in the other direction denying it just to eat at the right wing?
It's better to attribute games to nobody since the person who worked on the game is not the same as the person who was working on the game.
Just look at Yuji Naka or Yu Suzuki or John Romero or anyone else.
yeah i'm all for removing any and all association with meatbags as soon as possible
the devs got paid they don't need to assail me with 45 minutes of credits showing me how they outsourced everything
banjo kazooie is a game from the 90's, it's not "a game made by the company Rare"
Warcraft 3 is a great early 00's MMO, not "my favourite blizzard game"
With ownership of responsibility comes praises/hates.
Without ownership of responsibility, no one's held accountable. Thats where get companies that produce garbage over and over again
I don't think that's fair. The writer clearly disagrees with Spector about whether we should attribute the creation of a game to a single person. What was your ACT reading score?
This is my favorite. I took a picture of this article that I saw while reading the magazine on the shitter. They knocked like 15 points off the rating for not having homosexualry in it.
>Could immediately ding it for -30 for being a colony sim because that's by default shit >Choose to whine that the developer felt it necessary to specify which tards you can't breed
it's funny because anytime someone tries to make "straight" into a pride movement they are shut down for daring to raise their head, told that what they're doing is harming homosexuals.
But for some reason not making "straight" into a super speshul trait like the rest is... somehow harmful to homosexuals anyways.
I'm still unsure how these morons think that being straight was somehow "thought" and "forced" upon the entire globe.
The only arguments they have to show for it are isolated little tribes where a small minority of them were considered pee pee poo poo super special little spiritual blah blah blah genders that basically had the duty to get fricked by the tribal chief in the ass.
These super specific cherrypicked examples of pre-colonial gender-non-comformism sure show how we should live today, wow, thank you, so enlightened.
I love how this moron is so convinced to be on "the good side of history" that he cannot conceive that he might disagree with what is considered normal in the future. He think the future HAS to look like his personal utopia.
You can't write like that anymore because all of the publications are wholly financially compromised.
Reviewers haven't magically changed their positions, it's just that editors and site owners heavily pad shit out to keep from scaring off advertisers. And it just so happens that the AAA studios you're supposed to be critical of are the same players buying up all of the ad space.
This
You can't say 'frick off' to an EA game anymore because all of them are on the same side and protect one another. Even shit like Battlefront gets kid gloves now and that hasn't had a 'good' release in close to 20 years.

Nice to see things haven't changed as much as we believe they had.
Oh that's WHEN it changed for the worse anon. Early 2000s still had some great games but the writing was on the wall for PC games (other than MMOs) and that whole industry had pretty much gone breasts up by the end of the decade
>Early 2000s >whole industry had pretty much gone breasts up by the end of the decade

Consoles were still outputting video at 600x400 sub 30 fps while the PCs at the time were already going for 1280x720 above 60. Consoles have always been historically underperformant in comparison with PCs.
>PCs at the time were already going for 1280x720
Were they?
I remember almost every monitor and tv being a CRT (or projection) in 2003. And when LCD and plasma became popular a lot of people still had CRTs because flatscreens were so expensive.
In fact the ps3, 360, and Wii all shipped with composite cables.
>>PCs at the time were already going for 1280x720 >Were they?
Not quite. In the early 2000s PCs ran the desktop at 1024x768 or 1200x1024. The games were ran depending on your videocard, at either 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768 for the high end.
720p as a standard for PC came later with the adoption of widescreen LCDs after 2005, and even those were mostly 1366x768.
I know.
The point about composite cables is that they're not hd. Which was the main selling point of flatscreen tvs. Which raised in popularity at the same time as flatscreen computer monitors. Which were the main monitors available in 16;9. Which is what 1280x720's aspect ratio is.
Not having any good combat-related facilities sucked considering what Emerald had, but in terms of collecting shit, ORAS had a lot going for its post-game. The way the National Dex was integrated made revisiting old routes more enjoyable, and the Mirage Islands gave you a ton of new Pokemon to find. And although the Delta Episode is trash in retrospect, it was still a fairly novel addition. ORAS definitely had a much better postgame than XY, or even the Gen VII games after it and the Switch titles only rivaled it with their DLC. All it needed was a battle tower that wasn't as barebones as the Maison.
>Hoenn is still imbalanced type-wise, heavily favoring water. It’s especially noticeable in Alpha Sapphire, in which Team Aqua (the villains of the piece) use a lot of water types. It feels like there are water Pokémon in nearly every battle, and I have an overleveled Pikachu to show for it. >You also have to navigate many bodies of water, since much of the late-game involves the HMs Surf and Dive to get from place to place. Diving was really neat back in 2002 when it was new, but I found it incredibly tedious in Alpha and Omega.
No one ever read the full review apparently. Both "there are way too many water-type Pokemon, my electric-type Pokemon can solo most trainers" and "massive bodies of water are tedious to navigate" are valid complaints.
That's the most common, widely accepted criticism of Gen 3. The issue is that they worded it in the dumbest way possible when doing the review score. It's like if they criticised the framerate in Dragon's Dogma 2, something everyone is doing, but then in the summary just put "Not Enough Images" as if that's a good way of summing it up, or summed up the mtx in the game as "Too Many Items".
It was a tongue-in-cheek comment meant to be read after the full review. It was supposed to be funny, it was worded "in the dumbest way possible" on purpose. But people skipped to the end, got angry at the low score, and then singled out that one statement without even understanding what it meant.
If they gave the game a 9/10, no one would've cared. But they DARED to give their favourite game a "bad" score, so the reviewer must be dumb. Look at what he wrote here, "too much water", LOL is he stupid?!
It's not the most well known instance of gaming journalists saying stupid shit because the game is so niche, but the RPS review for Pathologic 2 is infamous inside that community.
This reads like a great example of someone who didn't bother to even try and really engage with the game. Even in things that you disagree and think don't work you can actually analyze and see what it was they were going for and how they tried to get there.
Has any other games journalism site fallen as far as Rock Paper Shotgun? I remember the late 2000s when they were good. I first heard about the original Pathologic there!
They were like a parallel of what happened to Cracked. Both started going down the tubes at pretty much exactly the same time in the early 2010s. At first it wasn't that in your face, much like cracked, but then 2013-2014 light switch and suddenly it was like listening to some homosexualy Berkeley student whine about insane shit on every article.
Yeah 2014 was when it suddenly happened to Cracked. I was an avid reader of it back then and you're right it was like a lightswitch went off and suddenly it wasn't a comedy website anymore. I still have this image saved from back in the day
That said, I've realized since that even when Cracked was "good" it was still kinda shitty. I mean I learnt so much misinformation from those lists: I first heard the whole "Lion King is a rip-off of Kimba the White Lion" myth on Cracked (which has been thoroughly debunked at this point,) it's where I first heard the "Star Wars was saved by the editor's/George's ex-wife, Marcia" myth (you might've heard this one - it's COMPLETE BULLSHIT lol.) There's probably a ton of other 'facts' that I learned from Cracked that are complete bullshit that I still believe
>which has been thoroughly debunked at this point
redditlettermedias chief dicksucker YMS saying >Umm yes disney stole everything including the lions name but those japanese were SOOOO heckin racisterino so its okay!!!
I don't like YMS much either but goddamn his Kimba video is genuinely great.
Cracked is pretty much dead. Literally nobody comments on their articles anymore. I remember when each article had hundreds of comments. The last time I visited the site was around the time that All That cast member from the newer seasons joined their writing staff.
They pretty much died completely around 2017/2018. I know people still complain about 'woke' today but that whole buisness model of blogs getting weirdly progressive (but in a stupid way that seemed to be designed to make readers angry which in turn meant they would engage with the content because a hate-click is still a click) just up and died at some point early on in 2017. Tons of sites just fricking died around 2017-18.
>but those japanese were SOOOO heckin racisterino so its okay!!!

I dont know why you've been obsessively reiterating the fact that cracked posted false info for the past 3 hours straight. It was a comedy website. If you took information from there on a factual basis that's on you. The only point of bringing up the comparison was that cracked is one of the most blatant and easily referenced websites when it comes to demonstrating a forced narrative shift among internet/comedy culture. It didn't gradually shift over time, one month it was comedy the next it was far left identity politics and then pretended it was always this way. Thats all.

I don’t remember it being so fast. I can pinpoint to the moment it changed though, it was when they introduced 2 elements: 1) a latino woman writter, the first female writter, dont remember her name 2) an article about mental health, it was a dude (that kater became a writter for cracked) that wrote about growing up poor or something like that. That article was one of the biggest pieces in that page so they started focusing more on social issues that people related to.

The characters don’t look a thing like Lion King, they both share minor features and a vague shape because that’s what it means to properly cartoon a lion, and every important detail such as the face is completely different.

No, why? It’s a Swahili word that means Lion cub
Jesus Christ, you people. YMS is a dogfricking homosexual, but he did his due diligence and showed the Kimba ripoff myth for what it was in a way that couldn't possibly be misunderstood or debunked. Anyone who actually watches Kimba will come to the same conclusion that he did- the two properties are wildly different in both content and tone and any similarities are entirely superficial, with the biggest pieces of "evidence" that Disney ripped off Kimba came from a Kimba movie that released AFTER The Lion King.
All you homosexuals can do is lie about what he said in his video in the hopes that the people you're talking to are as moronic as you are and will just take what you say at face value.
Cracked is pretty much dead. Literally nobody comments on their articles anymore. I remember when each article had hundreds of comments. The last time I visited the site was around the time that All That cast member from the newer seasons joined their writing staff.
My favorite of the nu-Cracked articles was the one where the writer - a straight male - argued that men need to "unlearn" sexualizing women, and he used princess Leia in gold bikini becoming a sex symbol and boys jerking off to Sports Illustrated as "harmuful" examples of how boys internalize toxic objectification. >is it toxic misogyny to find women with toned bodies wearing revealing clothes sexually attractive? >experts say "Yes"
What causes this? It's one thing to "respect women" but guys like that have basically castrated themselves.

Social justice causes tend to be "flanderized" into their most basic black and white aspects. It's how we went from "don't bully fat people because it does nothing to help and can instead aggravate the problem" to "actually being fat is good and powerful and brave and the doctors are wrong", basically the message that stuck was "being fat good, saying anything negative bad". Likewise the whole sexualization of women thing got reduced to "straight men libido bad".

It's old school american puritanism coming back in full force. But this time, it's only directed at straight males, because telling women and gays what to do would be sexist and homophobic.
My favorite Cracked article was from the white guy who pretended to be chinese saying they shouldn't rank their favorite movies because that would lead to people ranking their favorite races.
As a teen I went on Cracked every day, I loved learning the little facts and stupid stories.
The first sign of something wrong to me was one day going on and seeing an article along the lines of >5 female heroes that prove men suck
which a day or so later dropped the part about men sucking, presumably because an editor realized that it was very off putting and aggressive without reason.
Haven't read it in probably close to a decade now.
>Discover Cracked as a child >Read articles for years, sometimes watch their videos >Starts feeling ‘off’ after a certain point >Weird interjections of opinion that felt unwarranted >Less interesting topics >Tons of political shit that felt weirdly biased >Gradually use it less and less as it gets worse until eventually I stop going there entirely
Seriously, what the frick happened to Cracked? It used to be so much fun learning about new things there.
I read almost every cracked article for quite a long time, until I don't know when, maybe 2014 or so, when it just became what we would call woke today. I unbookrmarked it and never went back until a couple years later out of ciriousity, and it was then a parody of wokeness, every single thing was about sexism and racism
I remember when Mafia 2 released.
2k had bought out ads that plastered the entire site top to bottom and at the top of their page was a review trashing it.
I'm sure one of their writers was one of the 5 guys and it sent them in to damage control. I stopped reading games journalism pretty much all together around that time anyway so I don't know if they recovered.
The founder left to write comic books and left the single most homosexualy SJW on the staff in charge.

yeah it's good that it survived
it used to spawn just as many vidya memes as Ganker, especially the e3 threads
has had many legendary threads, like when the Silicon Knights studio owner and lead Dennis Dyack got ass-blasted and made a thread asking users to take bets whether they would meet expectations by posting "For" or "Against" somesuch. The ratio of people thinking the game would crash and burn was funny

Yeah I recall how good RPS was, it's possibly the foremost example of a once-good gaming journalism site turned to shit by SJW dipshit. It was created by alumni from PC Gamer UK, which had always been incomparably better than its US counterpart, both in vidya taste and in writing and fun. As they left and as the site grew, vacancies were inevitably filled up by the same scum which shit up vidya journalism elsewhere. Altho one of the PC Gamer alumni himself, John Walker, is arguably the biggest culprit with regards to the socjus mafia.
I've never played Pathologic 2, tell me everything that is wrong with this review. Why is it wrong to expect free beds to be usable and for occupied homes to have some food in them? What is one supposed to do to improve at finding food in the game?
There's no food in homes because there's a plague ravaging the town and the supply train hasn't shown up for weeks. Everyone is starving.
You can't sleep in any random bed because that's weird, you don't just let strangers sleep in your bed. You can only sleep in the beds of people who know you and trust you, and you can't sleep in the beds of abandoned houses because those are crawling with bandits who will kill you.
The game has an entire trading system which is mostly how you'll find food. Gathering one type of item to get food from an npc type who'll trade you for it. You also have shops and money to buy food, but that is very much secondary because of how the ingame economy works and how inflated prices become once the plague hits.
What the other anon said is true, but also a big part of the story is that you're supposed to be sick, hungry and tired. It's actively pushing the player to make stressful and resourceful decisions, and at times have to let someone die because otherwise would mean letting someone die yourself. An experienced player better at handling fights and looting can sustain themself much better so there is a skill for it, but for a first time player it's one of the best combinations of story and gameplay working in tandem.
In addition to what the other 2 guys said, the "Dark Souls" comparison is the stupidest thing ever. Not just because "it's difficult therefore DARK SOULS" but because the first Pathologic was also brutally difficult and it came out in 2005. 4 years before Demon's Souls even came out
this embarrassment of a review still spiritually hurts me just as much as it did 5 years ago, and i sincerely hope brendy caldwell gets castrated by crows for his crimes against humanity
Anon do you not remember the release period. How fricking bleak it was. The last thing anybody was thinking was "boy I sure do LOVE how LITTLE this game sold :D"
becomes mainstream = better sales = more money for the bachelor and Clara's route, simple as
not that normalgays have patience and common sense to deal with the game anyway

This is the thign that's fricking me up so hard about RPS giving such a shit review to Pathologic 2. I wouldn't be surprised if this series played a significant role in the initial game's popularity. I'm sure many people only found out about the game through RPS.

Im pretty sure the guy at the helm of the studio hates leftism. I dont think the average homosexual soiboi at your local community college has much in common with the people that made fricking Pathologic.
It's a long one but anyone remember the time a Kotaku writer tried to play the original Doom? TL;DR: He managed to get lost in E1M1 (HOW???!!!!) before getting killed and giving up after he got the shotgun in E1M2. He became Kotaku's editor-in-chief shortly after this lmao
I dunno, if you were reading a car review where the reviewer was struggling to back out of his own driveway only to then crash into his neighbors fence and blame the car for his shitty driving I think you'd probably not trust that man's opinion on automobiles.
That said, I do use it as an argument when people get mad about Kotaku's shitty political hot-takes. Their politics aren't the problem, the problem is they're all morons and have been so long before they started getting political all the fricking time.
>I was lost and confused in the first level. I was not always sure where to go. I used an online map to help me out
WHAT????!!! HOW? It's a straight line
why is he confused that there is blue in the game? I've never seen a game and went huh "this game is too violent, it probably just has red and brown, no green"
This article was written in the era of brown and bloom. Seeing any color that wasn't grey, brown or piss yellow if the game was set in mexico(Cartel shit was popular then) was rare.
but doom wasn't made when the article was made. That's like expecting colors from movies from the 1930s because you live in an era where colored movies are the norm
i understood you, and my point still stands. He's used to brown games so he thought a game from the 90s would be brown as well. Again, Imagine being used to colored movies then watching an old movie and being surprised it's black and white and not colored. This is even more baffling since he said he used to play games back then so he should know that games from that era weren't brown.
Left move/right look is a piece of shit control scheme, led to the "walk until line up" shooter gameplay we have today and no amount of b***hing of consoletards can change that.
It could also be the fact that the game is a fricking pain in the ass to control and I honestly doubt any reviewers got past the third level without god mode. I can’t even finish the goddamn game on easy, it is insanely difficult and requires precision the controller just doesn’t afford. That being said i never complained about the control scheme itself even when it came out.
I haven't played it personally but controls were probably ass, despite the modern control scheme. First-person shooters on console auto-aim for you, that's how they "fixed" the issue: from the crosshair slowing down when you're hovering an enemy, to the weapon magically rotating towards targets when you press the "aim button", to actual aim hacks.
I doubt that game did any of this. Aiming with a stick without any sort of assist is indeed terrible.
Not only is it stupid, Warren Spector literally didn't create Thief. He left Looking Glass early on during Thief's development to make Deus Ex. He only gets a "Special Thanks" credit at the end of the first game
Oh I got a good one. The sex toy in this case is a butt plug which she'd programmed using the open source buttplug.io library (I'm not making that up lmao)
Hmmmm, you ever notice how every single person who gets up on an internet soapbox to tell everyone else that they need to learn how to be "decent fricking people" are fricking freaks that do shit like this?
Yes. We all know. People tend to be perverts and the people yelling the loudest about "being decent" have the largest amount of skeletons in their closets.
And then you realize that this article was written by a person, reviewed by someone else, and approved by an editor. At least 3 people had the opportunity to veto this, and it was still greenlit to be published into the internet.
For me, the really humiliating part is after he realizes that he can dash in the air, but clearly has trouble hitting the buttons fast enough while moving in the right direction. It shows how unfamiliar with a controller he is despite ostensibly playing video games as a career. It probably takes him so long because he has to keep looking down to remember which button "Y" is.
I fricking hate failed writers. It's the same with any recipe online - the 40 year old drop out who never had an idea for their great work will spam 6 pages of rumination on their penile engorgement of today before just listing the recipe.
If you hold the same opinion today, and are lucky enough not to be totally ignored, the media will unite to say that you are an anti-democratic lunatic conspiracist and probably anti-Semite
the pc exclusive shit is happening to dd2 right now. the people saying the game is good are all playing on 4090s with 7800x3ds. the people trashing the game the most are on consoles playing at 15fps.
>there are no people of color in this game beyond the people of color I don't care about
That article and the entire "controversy" at the time have to be most zero self-awareness approach to the most random ass invented issue with a game ever.
why are europoors such cückoalds ? that shit was from Eurogamer
The main problem of those people is that they SEETHE at straight males getting titillating fun. They really wish that they could enforce purity culture and mandatory nofap but only for straight men, while kinky pride parades and such would be allowed to continue.
could they see where both arms of the "expert" was when he was saying this?
Sean Miller who they consulted is NOT a historian, by the way. He has no academic books under his belt. Nothing he has written on history has never been published in curated and peer reviewed historical journals. His only even somewhat notable work are his translations of Czech history studies.
game journalists make a point of crucifying random games that arent being pushed enough in order to say "see, we don't only give 9/10s, we're real reviewers".
for a great example of this, compare how demon souls was reviewed vs how dark souls 1/2 were reviewed by the same people a couple years later after it went from "that obscure import title on PS3 that's really hard" to the dark souls of video games despite those games being harder and more janky then demon souls was
Blame Capcom's moronic management. If they'd marketed Donte as a spin-off rather than "new definitive version of Dante", then I'm pretty sure fans would've been much more willing to accept it.
Would be a good idea to remind, that whichever "potential" Donte had in the teaser/poster by being thin drugs-loaded junkie had been devastated by turning him into Tameem lookalike "Frick you" normalgay.
This is the one I still don't get. Usually when journos are being moronic you can see their angle. But this game didn't have women, gays, blacks or trannies to rally around. And there was nothing notable about the devs, the lead was a white guy who dressed and acted like a teenager. What was it about this game that made all the morons unite against the overwhelming fan opinion that the direction was shit?
>post-2025
It's already happening now.
All those SEO sites full of garbage content pumped out by people getting paid 5 cents an article are now being written by AI. Far from closing the gap, AI is simply allowing slop-makers to shit out slop at an exponentially higher rate.
While they probably dinged it for not going all in on the racism, I overall agree, the narrative is a confusing mess that felt like the product of massive late development rewrites.
They also neglected the most interesting mechanics, too, so even the fun and good parts feel pushed aside for "I like to feel dumb" writing.
>hey, you just shot someone in the head, but don't call them a heckin' SLUR
literally the meme "I may be a pedophile, but at least I'm not RUDE"
Someone post it
A classic, although to be fair if you read the full thing he was just blown away by Ultima Underworld 2 (another early 3D/2.5D game that came out a year before) where you could talk to some of the monsters. Once you know that it makes sense where he's coming from. It's still one of the stupidest things ever written though. No, talking to the monsters wouldn't have improved Doom you nincompoop
Where's the post about the alien game where the reviewer in question got filtered by dual stick controls? That one is legendary when it comes to pieces that aged like milk
>these games are amazing but it's bullshit that metroid prime 4 has been in development for as long as it took to make all three of them and I want a new game already frick you nintendo
It's literally how it works. For example Kojima were making games for Konami and they fired him. Kojima still making games as a result with Konami doing nothing but profiting on his past work.
>Honestly, I'm reminded of Valerie Solanas - the radical feminist writer best known for unapologetically shooting Andy Warhol in 1968 - who defined the slimy struggle against patriarchy in her 1967 SCUM manifesto, an instruction manual on eliminating men for the sake of world peace. I'm thinking about this because Showtime! is a world without men -- there are male Theets with plasticky mustaches, sure, but no "men" in the Warhol or Mario sense.
>Solanas writes that the first type of man-obsessed woman "[sees] the female as worm," but true SCUM "consider themselves fit to rule the universe." With more grace and pacifism (thank God), Princess Peach: Showtime! lets Peach move closer to this more boisterous, commander-of-the-galaxy kind of woman. She's spinning into being a girl with some agency. And she doesn't even need a gun.
unironic justification for tumblrina racebending, lgbtq/troon headcanons, similar to smugly saying if you don't think 7th century norway was 100% black you're a moron because there were muslims in the south of spain
This makes me sad. I took a course on media literacy quite some time ago, and back then the stuff taught made sense. Things like to always check sources to see if they actually say what a journalist is claiming they say. That every headline that ends in a question mark is a clickbait scam. And to never trust Daily Mail on anything.
Seeing something actually useful turning into just another indoctrination method isn't nice.
It is absolutely referring to the SCUM manifesto in positive terms, relating it to the game that has made positive changes in a direction the author likes.
Yes and no.
Yes, because as an adventure Doom really gives you only mazes, shooting and resource management.
No, because Doom's creators never intended to create a full-fledged adventure, but semi-horror realtime action with killing monsters and finding secrets as a secondary activity. Because blasting this bloody demonic blighters with BFG into bloody mess is fun.
TO BE FAIR if you read the full piece he clearly really like Ultima Underworld which was another early first person 3D game from around the same time period that did a bunch of things differently (it was an RPG, it had characters you could talk to, an actual story, puzzles, inventory management, even a really early physics engine) but no, he's still a fricking moron.
For me it’s the one moron who convinced bioware to allocate points automatically at the end of ME2 missions, because he was too fricking stupid to level up and thought the game was too hard
What really gets me is the fact that the Mass Effect story is something that he happily admitted. Nobody would have known if he hadn’t bragged about being responsible for it.
He’s proud of being the earthly avatar of game journalist incompetence, even though most people would be fricking mortified if evidence of their stupidity had been immortalised on the internet.
I almost like Dean to be honest. He's legitimately clueless but he isn't a complete butthole or anything. He's just incompetent and oblivious. It's ALMOST endearing
Dean has been reviewing video games since before most people here were born. How did he thrive with so little gameplaying ability? How has he been doing this for decades and not getting any better?
>DS games used the second screen really well
not really. lots of games had small menus clearly meant for controllers, with the touch screen aspect being an afterthought.
Ehat is the one where Gamespot (or IGN? Don't remember) reviewed a game and said the ending was missing only for the dev to point out that only happens on easy. The reviewer denied this (as in, playing on easy) and then edited the review of obfuscate this piece of information.
Male feminist reviews game for little girls. Complains it's too easy for him, and gives it a bad score.
>As the moustachioed hero leaps to her side, a text bubble reveals the name of our digitised damsel in distress: Princess Peach. She gives her thanks, the credits roll, and we bid her farewell.
This is how he thinks SMB1 ends.
He is right though in a way it’s funny that Japan making Peach a female hero means she’s going to be collecting cakes and playing dress up, despite the wants of American feminists
That is exactly what women who actually play video games want though. They LOVE games that let you play house like Stardew Valley, The Sims and Animal Crossing. Even a lot of narrative hidden object games and girl's adventure games like Nancy Drew series often make a big deal about protagonist's outfits and outfit changes because real biological women genuinely fricking love that stuff.
Women will never be the core audience for serious and mature action-adventure triple A sagas no matter how much feminists who don't play games and their soiboy allies wish it would be so.
>They LOVE games that let you play house like Stardew Valley, The Sims and Animal Crossing
Let's be honest now anon, even though they "love" those games men are still the predominant and long time players.
If you don't count mobile games men outnumber female gamers almos 10 to 1 if not more. Of course any game genre will have more men by default then, even if the genre caters to women.
I wonder, if someone will ever make Civilisation clone 1-to-1, but instead of empires there would be influence zones, instead of resources - money, attention, fame and harems of guys, instead of conquests of cities - removing concurrent girls/wives from specifically hot guys (who would be a money/fame generating center with attitude changes instead of happy/sad population) etc, would there be more women playing it than guys? All technical mechanics are exactly the same.

Oh yeah is that what you think women want? You know they actually have female oriented media, and generally no it’s not a Crusader Kings 2 mod about ruining men’s lives across the globe.

Who said it is about men? It is about player woman ruining other women's lives across the globe in favor of her own.

Women often like stories about winning the love and protection from a moody and powerful man, and things like that, not so much megalomaniacal empire building for the sake of hurting men or other women en masse. Just kind of a nutty way to try and complain about them

That's why i'm talking about reskinning everything. "Charm techniques" units instead of spearmen and tanks, "spreading a rumor about that bawd" instead of spies and so on.

They don’t care about scale, and the fantasy is to have the best man, not to not have him and hurt other people over it, that’s a lose condition! Part of why I feel the need to reply about this is because it’s romance stories for women already exist and you act like you’ve never heard of them lol

slightly too fast. Hottest guys are reskinned cities - so player "conquers" them while shooing away other females, then cares about their good mood in exchange for gold and other resources from that post.

At this point you’re just pointing out male oriented video games are about destroying and humiliating other men, en masse.

a game that casts you as a noble woman in a society with limited legal rights for women who must intrigue, gossip, marry or even straight up frick her way to power would be interesting. no reason why they couldn't use poison or assassins either. for all I know the princess maker games are already like this
>That is exactly what women who actually play video games want though. They LOVE games that let you play house like Stardew Valley, The Sims and Animal Crossing. I remember it was talked about that DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball had a surprisingly sizeable female fanbase because the actual volleyball + other mini-games were actually fun and with decent online multiplayer for it all too (at least by the standards of the time). Then there was a huge amount of unlockable set of unique cosmetics for each character. I also heard the online community was shockingly chill and respectful for the type of game it was.
DOA Extreme 2 ruined it because the cosmetic options and amount of minigames were scaled back greatly, the gameplay was buggy, and the breast physics where they would jiggle randomly in asynchronous directions had the coomers divided if that was hot or weird as frick.
>she’s going to be collecting cakes and playing dress up
better to stay in the kitchen to bake delicious treats like and dress like a true hero than to become a bitter, scar-ridden man-hating feminist with no fashion sense
Reading the reviews for this is such a weird experience. I mean, on one hand you have feminists saying its a massive step forward and on the other hand you have male feminists saying it ain't.
too lazy to look up the picture
but one where the journo complained there wasn't an ending
then the dev commented and said the easiest tutorial difficulty doesn't have an ending he had to play on at least normal
then the journo went back, deleted and banned the dev, and lowered the score and changed the review complaining
>small info of "it's warhammer copying gow" >three times as much "explanations", that he didn't mean it after shitstorm in comments
Remember the Iceborne review from PCGamer that wasn't about the game at all, but instead about how it's animal cruelty and colonialism to hunt monsters?
>Review >is game good yes no? >"umm I feel like my ambient dildowaves are being disturbed"
I can't even find a way to properly make fun of this, this whole thing is too moronic for me
>game is called "Monster Hunter" >complains about hunting monsters
I mean I get the point when talking about e.g. Factorio, but come on, this one is being a wuss on purpose.
That said, some kind of photo/studying animals game could potentially be pretty kino; studying their patterns and behavior, documenting their mating habits and so on.
>HURRR DURRR YOU SEEM TO HAVE MISTYPED THE CAPTCHA FRICK YOU HIROSHIT
>completely ignores that hunters exist literally to keep populations in check and stop stubborn outliers that persistently terrorize settlements
journos never fail to impress.
To be fair, that was the reasoning behind the original monster hunter games. The current quests you're given are basically "Today I tripped on the forest and fell face first into a pile of rathalos shit. Go kill the rathalos and it's accompanying rathian for the humiliation i've endured.".
It's still dumb to whine about it in a videogame, but the series hasn't given a shit about keeping up that facade for quite a while. Now it's shit like "I think this monster looked at me funny, kill its entire family".
Release day reviews is a race to the bottom. I'd be surprized if anyone seriously reads them and the latest Kotaku drama shows that new Kotaku management hinks the same.
>This ain't it >This ain't it >This ain't it
Have these people had a single original thought in their lives? Might as well be a Twitch chat spamming the same shitty emotes all the time.
The thing is you could absolutely do this in a proper manner.
That's pretty much what 'WTF is?' did, it just requires the barest of integrity to say its not a review but a first impression.
Has the Flight Simulator """"review"""" been posted yet? The one where the guy talks about how bad and fascist the game is because Mirosoft removed some copper mine from the game and the review turns into some SJW pamphlet about slavery, but it turns out the moron was just flying at the wrong place?
This was one of the dumbest things. I don't get what makes people react that way. Who gives a flying frick what one reviewer thinks? How the hell can you actually feel outrage and anger over something like that? And it wasn't even like he gave it a 3/10 or something like that.
That kind of loyalty or fanaticism or whatever you'd call it is just weird.
I remember back in 2005 or so when the Wii was announced, I was on both the Nintendo and Xbox general boards asking about the consoles to legitimately see which might be better, and both sides thought I was trying to secretly flame them because both saw my positive post on the other board and did not understand I could be anything but a one console fanboy.
This is actually a good thing considering attributing games to studios is no longer reliable as the entire staff just gets replaced between games
It's a tendency among people to associate creative output with a brand instead of the actual creatives who made it. You see it not just with video games, but also TV shows, anime, etc. As long as the studio / company name is the same, they assume the end result will be the same.
Personal brand is still a brand.
Stupid morons. You're mongoloid enough to be hired by IGN.
They're right. Studios just churn employees now apart from rarities like Kojimbo or Larian.
Honestly true.
That's why I don't push back against auteur theory, it's obviously not 100% accurate but it's way truer than just associating everything with faceless corporations/brands.
auteur/great man theory is fascist apologia btw
everything leftoids say should be disregarded
And?
Some people are literally fundamental to certain projects and have great leadership and creative input that makes the thing happen. People who, not for money, but for their effort and ideas, make the project happen. Are you really going to go so far in the other direction denying it just to eat at the right wing?
opposing great man theory is authoritarian communist propaganda
It's better to attribute games to nobody since the person who worked on the game is not the same as the person who was working on the game.
Just look at Yuji Naka or Yu Suzuki or John Romero or anyone else.
>I can't tell games apart from franchises
even a mosquito has more brains than you
John Romero never changed.
yeah i'm all for removing any and all association with meatbags as soon as possible
the devs got paid they don't need to assail me with 45 minutes of credits showing me how they outsourced everything
banjo kazooie is a game from the 90's, it's not "a game made by the company Rare"
Warcraft 3 is a great early 00's MMO, not "my favourite blizzard game"
just shut the frick up.
this, ever since the norm has been to put people on 200%+ crunch and them toss them out like trash after they have burnt out
With ownership of responsibility comes praises/hates.
Without ownership of responsibility, no one's held accountable. Thats where get companies that produce garbage over and over again
>it's not this thing
>but it's actually totally this thing
Brilliant take there, IGN.
I don't think that's fair. The writer clearly disagrees with Spector about whether we should attribute the creation of a game to a single person. What was your ACT reading score?
This is my favorite. I took a picture of this article that I saw while reading the magazine on the shitter. They knocked like 15 points off the rating for not having homosexualry in it.
total garbage
what year was that published?
>Could immediately ding it for -30 for being a colony sim because that's by default shit
>Choose to whine that the developer felt it necessary to specify which tards you can't breed
>one is an identity
>the other isn’t
it's funny because anytime someone tries to make "straight" into a pride movement they are shut down for daring to raise their head, told that what they're doing is harming homosexuals.
But for some reason not making "straight" into a super speshul trait like the rest is... somehow harmful to homosexuals anyways.
vanilla rimworld is shit tho, much like minecraft the only reason it got popular was the mods.
you can never make a sexuality system that satisfies everyone, everyone has different views on it
which is why he left it to mods
It's funny that these morons keep using words like "heteronormative" to imply that being straight isn't the norm.

Glad I quit reading PC Gamer 15 years ago, good lord.
I love how this moron is so convinced to be on "the good side of history" that he cannot conceive that he might disagree with what is considered normal in the future. He think the future HAS to look like his personal utopia.
They don't write em like this anymore. Not even Yahtzee can be that scathing. Fatherhood has mellowed him to the point of being boring.
There's also the Sims one where they just list every item in the pack
>He was sailing now.
I genuinely wasn't ready for that. Goddamn.
>"People will still buy it," she insisted. Harold raised his hand and struck his wife hard across the face, spilling his scotch on the carpet.

>Have a shit engine that needs unreasonable resources.
>Coders that fail to thrive even under constraints.
>Content with delivering shit and blaming the system.
Nice to see things haven't changed as much as we believe they had.
Oh that's WHEN it changed for the worse anon. Early 2000s still had some great games but the writing was on the wall for PC games (other than MMOs) and that whole industry had pretty much gone breasts up by the end of the decade

The Xbox only had 64mb of RAM you dumb fricking moronic zoomer. The dearth between console and PC of that generation was absolutely massive.
Halo ran fine on it.
>>PCs at the time were already going for 1280x720
>Were they?
Not quite. In the early 2000s PCs ran the desktop at 1024x768 or 1200x1024. The games were ran depending on your videocard, at either 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768 for the high end.

PC screens didn't come with composite connections. They came with VGA, and later DVI, which started to be used as the first flatscreens rolled out.
I know.
The point about composite cables is that they're not hd. Which was the main selling point of flatscreen tvs. Which raised in popularity at the same time as flatscreen computer monitors. Which were the main monitors available in 16;9. Which is what 1280x720's aspect ratio is.

I'm pretty sure the reviewer was talking about water-element pokemons being too numerous which skews the balance. Which isn't unreasonable.
no theyre my friends i like water pokemons
Gen 3 IS shit, though
That review is for gen6 you fricking idiot.
So they added more water in the remakes or what?
Hoenn does have too much water
Isn't "too much water" a meme from the initial release? It is true though.
Beautiful water
>Soulsian philosophy
>zoomercado
Is there ANY other branch that is exclusively staffed with morons like this?
This reads like a great example of someone who didn't bother to even try and really engage with the game. Even in things that you disagree and think don't work you can actually analyze and see what it was they were going for and how they tried to get there.
Came here to post this. God how can you be so fricking stupid

Man please do not remind me of cracked
It did set the standard for aislop list articles, though
>which has been thoroughly debunked at this point
redditlettermedias chief dicksucker YMS saying
>Umm yes disney stole everything including the lions name but those japanese were SOOOO heckin racisterino so its okay!!!
I don't like YMS much either but goddamn his Kimba video is genuinely great.
Holy shit acually take your meds he masterfully debunked all the "didney stole kimba" misinformation the racism wasnt even a section he made a small mention shorter than your seething post, and if mr popo tier golliwogs being called racist makes you throw all his argument out as le woke you are actually poltarded beyond repair
>and if mr popo tier golliwogs being called racist makes you throw all his argument out as le woke you are actually poltarded beyond repair
1% cancer is still cancer
AND I first heard about it on Cracked. They even parrot the same points that YMS debunked. This is from 2009 lol:
https://www.cracked.com/article_17299_6-famous-characters-you-didnt-know-were-shameless-rip-offs.html
Also Cracked's clearly had a site-wide redesign that looks ugly as frick. Don't get me started on the whole "George Lucas's ex-wife saved Star Wars from being shit via her editing," thing either. It's almost as big a load of bullshit as the Kimba stuff and naturally I first learnt that "fact" on Cracked
See? Look at this ONE PIECE of concept art where Kimba was white. It must be a rip-off! And all the characters are direct rip-offs too! Frick you... Juan Arteaga for writing this shit. You haven't seen Kimba!
>And some of the most famous scenes from the movie were practically Xeroxed from Kimba, including the one where Simba speaks with the ghost of his father who appeared in the clouds.
... hrmmmmmm. Well... at least he didn't say he "appeared in the moon" so I guess the guy who wrote this is a bit smarter than that fricking law professor. Crazy how long this myth was around for and NO ONE BOTHERED TO ACTUALLY WATCH KIMBA lmfao
>Mikey and ronald duck
kek unintentionally topical with all the slop profiting from mickey being sei public domain now
>Here's a little experiment. [absurd hypothetical invented by the author leading to the author's desired conclusion being used as evidence]
So this is where John Oliver trained.
I mean if you compare the evidence where the only similarity is a name an using some of the same animals (where a white lion is compared to a nomal lion in an unrelated shakespeare macbeth story) if the squeaky mikey rat and ronald duck were hyper realistic animals and the story was based on shakespeares king lear with no other similarities to disney beyond lies and stretches what could disney do?
People literally do parody Disney characters with skew names mean to directly reference the original, and don’t get sued
what in the frick is kimba?
Japanese anime from the 60s also about lions. There was an internet myth for decades that The Lion King was a complete rip-off of it but it turns out the people peddling that had either not seen Kimba and were making shit up OR were being intentionally disingenuous to create a fake narrative. Then some youtuber actually sat down and watched the entirety of Kimba and found out it was complete horseshit:
he's saying it's not real while showing video evidence (PRE 1994!!!! @IJBER@JRB) that it is
>weeb defending his blackface anti arab racist cartoon
you will never be japanese
>>weeb defending his blackface anti arab racist cartoon
>you will never be japanese
Wow, so Kimba is obviously a 90 minute animated 5-act film that has the same script as Lion King, riiiiiiiiiight?
I genuinely don't know if this guy is affirming the point of that article in an ironic way or if he doesn't realize that ripoffs can not be 1:1 imitations.
>ripoffs can not be 1:1 imitations.
isn't that what a rip off is?
I think that woukd technicallly be called just a “copy”
He's an idiot, simple as
nuhuh YMS confirms disney is inocent and youre a racist nazi if you support Kimba
>youre a racist
das rite
>Umm yes disney stole everything including the lions name
He doesn't say that at all
Please try engaging with the things you b***h about instead of reverting to literal caveman-tier shitflinging
Eh, I'd caution against this on principle. Even if they might be right, ideological purity is more important.
nobody gives a shit about gay furgay drama
Oh I just mentioned it because it was one of the many, many "facts" I learnt from Cracked that was complete horseshit. Even back when Cracked was "good" it was still kinda shit
i dont care, go talk about your favorite eceleb on /b/, and its your fault for caring about horseshit slop in the first place
>i dont care
Cool. Your opinion means a lot to everyone here
first day here?
I dont know why you've been obsessively reiterating the fact that cracked posted false info for the past 3 hours straight. It was a comedy website. If you took information from there on a factual basis that's on you. The only point of bringing up the comparison was that cracked is one of the most blatant and easily referenced websites when it comes to demonstrating a forced narrative shift among internet/comedy culture. It didn't gradually shift over time, one month it was comedy the next it was far left identity politics and then pretended it was always this way. Thats all.
he wants to talk about his favorite eceleb and disneyshit because he's underage, cut him some slack
>I dont know why you've been obsessively reiterating the fact that cracked posted false info for the past 3 hours straight
>Posted one hour ago
You're almost as bad as Cracked lol!
After 2 minutes ysing google it was Christina H (asian not latino) and i think John Cheese
Because it’s a relatively well-known fake story people that actually believe, drummed up by an idiot
i lub diney
Lmao @ believing shit that isn’t true just to get at a company you can easily hate anyways for things they’ve actually done
>shit that isn’t true just to get at a company
blud I love disney especially the lion king but acting like simba has NO relation to Kimba is moronic. Hell the story is ripped off from shakespeare so what difference does it make if all the characters are ripoffs too?
The characters don’t look a thing like Lion King, they both share minor features and a vague shape because that’s what it means to properly cartoon a lion, and every important detail such as the face is completely different.
No no no, it's a rip-off even the names are nearly the same. The only way they could've gotten the name Simba is if they'd seen Kimba, duh. Frick them for ripping off that obscure Japanese movie
>only way they could have the name Simba is if they stole it from Kimba
No, why? It’s a Swahili word that means Lion cub
I think you might've missed the sarcasm mate
I'm surprised to hear it even still exists. I would have thought it folded years ago.
>You lived long enough to see almost every Cracked featured writer denounce their old material for "problematic reasons"
Getting old sure sucks shit
>you lived long enough to see Cracked, a shitty ripoff of Mad magazine, outlive Mad magazine, turn into a website, and die
5 weirdest things that can cause you to be more racist
Indians, blacks, Chinese, Hispanics and israelites?
1.- Americücks
remember buzzfeed? it felt like they were on track to world domination lol thank god that failed
Sexual mimicry. They have complete insecurity about themselves, and know they can't sexually compete with other males for women, so they try to appear as castrated gentle slaves to have a chance at accessing women.
Progressive, liberal men are not desirable to women So their strategy is to frame other men as dangerous and evil, and then offer themselves as the safe and harmless alternative.
The first sign of something wrong to me was one day going on and seeing an article along the lines of
>5 female heroes that prove men suck
which a day or so later dropped the part about men sucking, presumably because an editor realized that it was very off putting and aggressive without reason.
Haven't read it in probably close to a decade now.
>Discover Cracked as a child
>Read articles for years, sometimes watch their videos
>Starts feeling ‘off’ after a certain point
>Weird interjections of opinion that felt unwarranted
>Less interesting topics
>Tons of political shit that felt weirdly biased
>Gradually use it less and less as it gets worse until eventually I stop going there entirely
Photoplasties are still good?
Or are they political garbage too?
Have no idea not been there for nearly 10 years
I assumed the website went bust tbqh
I remember when Mafia 2 released.
2k had bought out ads that plastered the entire site top to bottom and at the top of their page was a review trashing it.
I'm sure one of their writers was one of the 5 guys and it sent them in to damage control. I stopped reading games journalism pretty much all together around that time anyway so I don't know if they recovered.
the "backlash" over honestly reviewing a game your site has been advertising was one of my big "frick this shit" moments when it came to reviews
The founder left to write comic books and left the single most homosexualy SJW on the staff in charge.
Yeah it did turn to shit RIGHT after Kieron Gillen left didn't it?
>Kieron Gillen
Frick that gay, he (or one of his minions) used to ban people on the PC Gamer forum for making robocrazy jokes.
same thing happened to hcg101 and giantbomb.
neogaf was on a steep nosedive and the progenitor of all this bullshit, but then 95% of the cancer left and formed resetera during the controversy which ironically redeemed negoaf
>neogaf was on a steep nosedive and the progenitor of all this bullshit,
Neogaf preceded those other sites but the progenitor of all this bullshit is almost entirely SomethingAwful.
well, most devs posted exclusively on ng making it the go-to place for grifters. whatever started on SA bled into ng and then into the mainstream
Oh I don't disagree with you that it percolated on Neogaf before a whole bunch of other places but it almost all came from SomethingAwful
aight, you might be right about that. I never lurked there. didn't join before the paywall and couldn't be bothered afterwards lol
Are you familiar with this stuff?
- Because you wrote it from your own experience...at least that's what I assume
sadly, yes, I've been browsing various gaming sites since right after the bbs days
my favourite gaming sites throughout the ages:
UK RESISTANCE
Unkle Murray
TIG Source before the 10's
NFG forums
how presumptuous
> posted on ng making
Which site is that exactly is that you're talking about?
NeoGaf, used to be the largest gaming forum used by industry people but went to shit when SJWs started to infest the place.
Then the admin was involved in some kind of sex scandal and all the SJWs fricked off to form Resetera. Genuinely saved the place.
This post is from Neogaf for example
Neogaf is still up?
>neogaf dot com
yup, seems so

damn, crazy seeing that part of section of a forum be anything but year old topics who's last reply was weeks to months ago

yeah it's good that it survived
it used to spawn just as many vidya memes as Ganker, especially the e3 threads
has had many legendary threads, like when the Silicon Knights studio owner and lead Dennis Dyack got ass-blasted and made a thread asking users to take bets whether they would meet expectations by posting "For" or "Against" somesuch. The ratio of people thinking the game would crash and burn was funny
lmao found it

For me it's this
everyone loves threads like these
Yeah I recall how good RPS was, it's possibly the foremost example of a once-good gaming journalism site turned to shit by SJW dipshit. It was created by alumni from PC Gamer UK, which had always been incomparably better than its US counterpart, both in vidya taste and in writing and fun. As they left and as the site grew, vacancies were inevitably filled up by the same scum which shit up vidya journalism elsewhere. Altho one of the PC Gamer alumni himself, John Walker, is arguably the biggest culprit with regards to the socjus mafia.
pathologic 2 is the ultimate filter in gaming. i don't think any game even comes close.
Not just because "it's difficult therefore DARK SOULS" but because the first Pathologic was also brutally difficult and it came out in 2005. 4 years before Demon's Souls even came out
>sad/dark world
>difficult
ergo soulsesque, BOOM!
Honestly I find the first Pathologic to be really meditative and relaxing. The music really helps with that imo. Feels like a second home.
Right, so it's more like King's Field then
this embarrassment of a review still spiritually hurts me just as much as it did 5 years ago, and i sincerely hope brendy caldwell gets castrated by crows for his crimes against humanity
I'm more pissed off at the fact shit like that might have hurt sales than anything else
good i dont want normies making it lamestream
Anon do you not remember the release period. How fricking bleak it was. The last thing anybody was thinking was "boy I sure do LOVE how LITTLE this game sold :D"
becomes mainstream = better sales = more money for the bachelor and Clara's route, simple as
not that normalgays have patience and common sense to deal with the game anyway
Why are you all booing?
He's right.
The souls-like comparison is, however, misplaced
But the skyrim comparison is fine.
>rps
the last time i read something from them they apparently ended up getting blacklisted by square enix for wasting the ffxiv producers time
>soulsbaby hates actual difficulty
every time
people that play games for difficulty have mental health problems. old news.
>skyrim
>soles
That's all they know.
Compare and contrast it to the 3 part series that RPS did about the first Pathologic 15 years ago, absolutely praising it and really digging into its themes
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/topics/butchering-pathologic
This is the thign that's fricking me up so hard about RPS giving such a shit review to Pathologic 2. I wouldn't be surprised if this series played a significant role in the initial game's popularity. I'm sure many people only found out about the game through RPS.
Is there any reviewer/journalist who takes his job seriously and is well read during these dark times?
Man, this image is sad.
Wownthisbreview actually pisses me off. Pathologic 2 is a great game, and this mind bendingly moronic leftoid would have ruined it if he had his way.
>leftoid
Don't tell him Ice Pick Lodge has always been very leftist it'll ruin him.
He became Kotaku's editor-in-chief shortly after this lmao
youd have to be a rizzless ohioan to hold hat against the man or his company
I dunno, if you were reading a car review where the reviewer was struggling to back out of his own driveway only to then crash into his neighbors fence and blame the car for his shitty driving I think you'd probably not trust that man's opinion on automobiles.
That said, I do use it as an argument when people get mad about Kotaku's shitty political hot-takes. Their politics aren't the problem, the problem is they're all morons and have been so long before they started getting political all the fricking time.
He does nothing but praise the game though.
>I was lost and confused in the first level. I was not always sure where to go. I used an online map to help me out
WHAT????!!! HOW? It's a straight line
I feel like I lost a bunch of brain cells reading this
why is he confused that there is blue in the game? I've never seen a game and went huh "this game is too violent, it probably just has red and brown, no green"
This article was written in the era of brown and bloom. Seeing any color that wasn't grey, brown or piss yellow if the game was set in mexico(Cartel shit was popular then) was rare.
but doom wasn't made when the article was made. That's like expecting colors from movies from the 1930s because you live in an era where colored movies are the norm
I'm talking about the article, it was wrote in 2010 when games like that were the norm.
i understood you, and my point still stands. He's used to brown games so he thought a game from the 90s would be brown as well. Again, Imagine being used to colored movies then watching an old movie and being surprised it's black and white and not colored. This is even more baffling since he said he used to play games back then so he should know that games from that era weren't brown.
What the frick am I even reading? The longer it goes on the more I feel like I'm being trolled
Legendary take.
Well to be fair, first time playing that control scheme felt really weird after turning and moving with one stick for years.
Left move/right look is a piece of shit control scheme, led to the "walk until line up" shooter gameplay we have today and no amount of b***hing of consoletards can change that.
its amazing how it became industry standard after years of figuring out how to do automatic camera and the end result is just let the users do it
It's one of the things that makes certain games made with consoles in mind difficult to play with keyboard and mouse.
Zoomers don't recall the period where every PS2 game would have a different controller set up.
If knew how to read you might've noticed I was calling Cracked shit even back when it was "good"
if you were old enough to be conscious during the 90s you wouldn't be so easily baited lol

I don't understand the problem here.

I see you and raise you the time a Vice writer shoved a Switch controller up his ass and then complained it was having synch issues
wow
Hmmmm, you ever notice how every single person who gets up on an internet soapbox to tell everyone else that they need to learn how to be "decent fricking people" are fricking freaks that do shit like this?
Yes. We all know. People tend to be perverts and the people yelling the loudest about "being decent" have the largest amount of skeletons in their closets.
love wins bigot, take your hateful backwards rhetoric back to 2009
This is a satire isn't it? This can't be real, can it?
Nope! You clearly weren't reading Vice towards the end. They were that fricking bad

perfect video
And then you realize that this article was written by a person, reviewed by someone else, and approved by an editor. At least 3 people had the opportunity to veto this, and it was still greenlit to be published into the internet.
I know, it's amazing. No one, I mean NO ONE thought to maybe veto this?
not one person saw this waste of meat say "my pussy be yankin'" and figured that it should be omitted

No, it's nut milk.
why do this specifically with a multiplayer kids game where half of the other players are children?

yes but I wish I didn't, and that people wouldn't let them be so blatant about it

But this was VentureBeat.
It's only a minute and a half and it feels like an eternity.
Instead of furgay drama, how about good journalism questions? Making this your first question in an interview has got to be up there.
It was this interview that literally killed Peter Molyneux's career.
Unfortunate, because for all of Molyneux's bullshitting, his games were actually fun.
>we were free
We were. Sad you didn't enjoy the 90s, israeli piece of shit.
>social media is bad
Yes, it is. Die mad about it.
no idea why some people say this about the past, you werent even groomed yet so it wouldnt matter
Here's an article in a British gaming mag decades ago pointing out all the bullshit in games journalism.
>British gaming mag
did you mean anti-semitic gaming mag?
It's kind of funny because I consider 73% the "jank gold" score of games that try something interesting but lack polish and couldn't buy a review.
If you hold the same opinion today, and are lucky enough not to be totally ignored, the media will unite to say that you are an anti-democratic lunatic conspiracist and probably anti-Semite
This is so old it's from the dying days of the Amiga.
Gods I miss that thing so much.
the pc exclusive shit is happening to dd2 right now. the people saying the game is good are all playing on 4090s with 7800x3ds. the people trashing the game the most are on consoles playing at 15fps.
>video games journos hate video games
More news at eleven
the 2010's were a dark time for humanity
could they see where both arms of the "expert" was when he was saying this?
>there are no people of color in this game beyond the people of color I don't care about
That article and the entire "controversy" at the time have to be most zero self-awareness approach to the most random ass invented issue with a game ever.
why are europoors such cückoalds ? that shit was from Eurogamer
>different people have different opinions
that's right my fellow transister, those gamers can't accept powerful gaming journalists
The main problem of those people is that they SEETHE at straight males getting titillating fun. They really wish that they could enforce purity culture and mandatory nofap but only for straight men, while kinky pride parades and such would be allowed to continue.
homies read shit like this and are still not able to understand the problem started when we allowed gays to speak up without getting stoned to death.
Sean Miller who they consulted is NOT a historian, by the way. He has no academic books under his belt. Nothing he has written on history has never been published in curated and peer reviewed historical journals. His only even somewhat notable work are his translations of Czech history studies.
If a prostitute slept with a black dude in medieval Bohemia, the black dude would get lynched and the prostitute would get disemboweled

they just grew up, why haven't you?
youd think theres some sort of connection or overlap between the target audience of a media product and the target audience of the review
Haven't hit the erectile dysfunction age yet.
>they grew up
growing up means supporting breasts
Growing up is when you don't consume media you don't like and leaving it alone.
because growing up means
>nooo, not boobies, girls are icky-pooey!
Reviewer was shitting on it because contrary to the artstyle, the gameplay was not as chummy as he had hoped
I'm surprised Gris was getting dunked at. I would normally expect those artsy walkingsim nothingburgers to do well with journos.
game journalists make a point of crucifying random games that arent being pushed enough in order to say "see, we don't only give 9/10s, we're real reviewers".
for a great example of this, compare how demon souls was reviewed vs how dark souls 1/2 were reviewed by the same people a couple years later after it went from "that obscure import title on PS3 that's really hard" to the dark souls of video games despite those games being harder and more janky then demon souls was
He's right, GRIS is a typical artsy tubmlrshit about muh depression with very basic gameplay and puzzles.
>post yfw ign was right
hes right, cool edgy donte had so much potetial then meberberries boomerslop
Blame Capcom's moronic management. If they'd marketed Donte as a spin-off rather than "new definitive version of Dante", then I'm pretty sure fans would've been much more willing to accept it.
Next time tell the de of DmC that making fun of original DMC fans is not a good way of selling the game.
He was a tryhard, regular Dante was cool.

It's already happening now.
All those SEO sites full of garbage content pumped out by people getting paid 5 cents an article are now being written by AI. Far from closing the gap, AI is simply allowing slop-makers to shit out slop at an exponentially higher rate.

Video game journalism has always been a joke, but at least they didn't take themselves seriously back then.
They're right it shouldn't be about bioshock stuff but how racist it is to not let nonwhites such as the irish in your magic city
What's wrong with this one? Infinite does have a moronic narrative
Deserved lower.
While they probably dinged it for not going all in on the racism, I overall agree, the narrative is a confusing mess that felt like the product of massive late development rewrites.
They also neglected the most interesting mechanics, too, so even the fun and good parts feel pushed aside for "I like to feel dumb" writing.
>Jagged Alliance 3 pays homage to Jagged Alliance and Jagged Alliance 2
>hey, you just shot someone in the head, but don't call them a heckin' SLUR
literally the meme "I may be a pedophile, but at least I'm not RUDE"
Someone post it
Oh so they literally call it political correcteness now, I though it didn't exist and it was just "being a decent human being"
A classic, although to be fair if you read the full thing he was just blown away by Ultima Underworld 2 (another early 3D/2.5D game that came out a year before) where you could talk to some of the monsters. Once you know that it makes sense where he's coming from. It's still one of the stupidest things ever written though. No, talking to the monsters wouldn't have improved Doom you nincompoop

No, it's not about the score. Look closer.
>these games are amazing but it's bullshit that metroid prime 4 has been in development for as long as it took to make all three of them and I want a new game already frick you nintendo
makes sense to me tbh
It's literally how it works. For example Kojima were making games for Konami and they fired him. Kojima still making games as a result with Konami doing nothing but profiting on his past work.
Wasn't that journalist who was "obsessed with Tomb Raider" actually a former Square employee? I remember seeing her resume
The infamous fake Spielberg quote about Bug, spread by dumbass journos who didn't know it was a made up joke for trailer.

>Media Literacy Badge Status:

That woman is moronic but is getting mad at the idea of media literacy a new /misc/ thing
Media literacy is used as a phrase that just means interpret the work through a modern far left lens
Making fun of those idiots is always good
>Media literacy
Every time I look for funny seething or bans on resetera I see this phrase used in every other post, how come?
unironic justification for tumblrina racebending, lgbtq/troon headcanons, similar to smugly saying if you don't think 7th century norway was 100% black you're a moron because there were muslims in the south of spain
>Ohiobabble
SAGE
This makes me sad. I took a course on media literacy quite some time ago, and back then the stuff taught made sense. Things like to always check sources to see if they actually say what a journalist is claiming they say. That every headline that ends in a question mark is a clickbait scam. And to never trust Daily Mail on anything.
Seeing something actually useful turning into just another indoctrination method isn't nice.
Why does a review of a game for little girls glorify a mentally disturbed attempted murderer
It doesn't glorify her.
It's The Onion.
>this game reminds me of the SCUM manifesto
>thats a good thing
Alright, if you say so.
a good thing
That's not said nor implied at any point. Referring to something is not endorsing it.
It is absolutely referring to the SCUM manifesto in positive terms, relating it to the game that has made positive changes in a direction the author likes.
>Majoring in Communication
...but what does that have to do with DOOM and denuvo?
This guy still gets shit for this PS3 LoU review.
Don't forget TLOU was and is one of the best games ever made. It stands alone.

waiter my bait is stale
Ellie is stupid and annoying.
You only have to craft once I think.
The multiplayer wasn't "slow-paced".
I don't remember the music.
Now that the dust has settled, was Edge Magazine right about Doom?
Lmfao what a gay.
No as Doom is not meant to be a deep game
For me it’s the one moron who convinced bioware to allocate points automatically at the end of ME2 missions, because he was too fricking stupid to level up and thought the game was too hard
Even funnier is that was the same guy who, a decade later, couldn't get past the tutorial in cuphead. NO SERIOUSLY IT'S THE EXACT SAME GUY
I'm glad the DS games used the second screen really well, but this is just silly
>DS games used the second screen really well
not really. lots of games had small menus clearly meant for controllers, with the touch screen aspect being an afterthought.
I meant in the context of Fire Emblem since that's what I was responding to, but sure I agree with you
Bullshit. The majority of games on the DS/3DS just settled with using the second screen as a menu or map.
lmao
Now I'm picturing Radiant Dawn with an added avatar character that is literally just a mii clashing with the art style
Ehat is the one where Gamespot (or IGN? Don't remember) reviewed a game and said the ending was missing only for the dev to point out that only happens on easy. The reviewer denied this (as in, playing on easy) and then edited the review of obfuscate this piece of information.
PixelJunk pretty sure
see
Male feminist reviews game for little girls.
Nah, especially with The Sims women are genuinely the long time players.
Nah there are huge female majorities in female-minded games
If you don't count mobile games men outnumber female gamers almos 10 to 1 if not more. Of course any game genre will have more men by default then, even if the genre caters to women.
Bauer, but it’s still true certain games like The Sims do have female majorities
Oh shut up
Oh yeah is that what you think women want? You know they actually have female oriented media, and generally no it’s not a Crusader Kings 2 mod about ruining men’s lives across the globe.
>and generally no it’s not a Crusader Kings 2 mod about ruining men’s lives across the globe.
Who said it is about men? It is about player woman ruining other women's lives across the globe in favor of her own.
You can even add "homosexual chatacter" DLC faction with increased difficulyy and other even harder options for expanding your audience eventually (when base game will stop bringing money).
Women often like stories about winning the love and protection from a moody and powerful man, and things like that, not so much megalomaniacal empire building for the sake of hurting men or other women en masse. Just kind of a nutty way to try and complain about them
>stories about winning the love and protection from a moody and powerful man, and things like that
That's why i'm talking about reskinning everything.
Ah, you might've read one of my posts
slightly too fast. Hottest guys are reskinned cities - so player "conquers" them while shooing away other females, then cares about their good mood in exchange for gold and other resources from that post.
Stupid train of thought, really
At this point you’re just pointing out male oriented video games are about destroying and humiliating other men, en masse.
>sengoku rance, but for women
a game that casts you as a noble woman in a society with limited legal rights for women who must intrigue, gossip, marry or even straight up frick her way to power would be interesting. no reason why they couldn't use poison or assassins either. for all I know the princess maker games are already like this
you clearly do not understand the female version of autism
>That is exactly what women who actually play video games want though. They LOVE games that let you play house like Stardew Valley, The Sims and Animal Crossing. Even a lot of narrative hidden object games and girl's adventure games like Nancy Drew series often make a big deal about protagonist's outfits and outfit changes because real biological women genuinely fricking love that stuff.

Remember the Iceborne review from PCGamer that wasn't about the game at all, but instead about how it's animal cruelty and colonialism to hunt monsters?
>Review
>is game good yes no?
>"umm I feel like my ambient dildowaves are being disturbed"
I can't even find a way to properly make fun of this, this whole thing is too moronic for me
>game is called "Monster Hunter"
>complains about hunting monsters
Long read, but good
Release day reviews is a race to the bottom. I'd be surprized if anyone seriously reads them and the latest Kotaku drama shows that new Kotaku management hinks the same.
I don't get it
>LEGO heads in Dead Rising
I never played Dead Rising, what's the joke
They are servbot heads. From the Mega Man Legends setting - another capcom thing.
Now that is just rage click baiting.

Video game reviewers are being silenced over Palestine?

Are game journos lower than prostitutes and actors?
> You don't need to have sex with clients to be a prostitute
I guess...
The thing is you could absolutely do this in a proper manner.
That's pretty much what 'WTF is?' did, it just requires the barest of integrity to say its not a review but a first impression.

wat
Look it up, it's the kotaku (of course) review.
wew
Kotaku truly hires only the cream of the crop
That reminded me of this.
Remember when Ganker got EA to be voted worst company in America for 3 years in a row or something and the EA shills would always come out haaaard
That vote was a joke.
>Why on earth would I live there?
>But I did have breakfast this morning.
Here's Kotaku's PS5 review. Glad that dump is gone.
>This review has spent 3,000 words talking about the Playstation 5, which is the most I've written about anything
jesus christ
Lol
A journalist, who presumably needed to specialise in English as a subject, had never written more than 3000 words about anything.
