The beasts are the legends you get in the story mode, while Kyogre and Groudon are used by the 'final bosses' of battle mode (Infin and Inity in the Orre Colosseum).
This is definitely one of those features that sounds like a good idea in theory but is annoying as frick in practice. As says, it should’ve been used more sparingly.
It still exists, the gender differences are just more obvious now. Alola is the only generation without gender differences because half the mons are either female or genderless.
This reminds me of infatiuation, such a niche status effect, only one move and one ability can cause it and require the oponent of being of the oposite gender. Just let it go already, I'm sure we can come up with a diferent effect for cute charm.
I wonder what made them decide to bring megas back now? I assumed they'd do it when sales dropped but S/V sold amazingly well. Is it because they're running out of ideas for gimmicks?
I'd guess they settleled on Kalos for the new legends because they new it needed closure on some of its plotlines, and since it was the place that megas were introduced they figured they might as well add them into the game. I doubt megas are coming back to mainline but I could be wrong.
this feature would be soul if most of the differences weren't just 'the male/female pokemon's distinct feature is bigger', the ones with different markings like girafarig and cacturne or completely different body parts like meganium and venusaur (bonus points for using cool plant biology here) are so cool.
I remember they used to not let you use the black hippo on showdown. I thought maybe it had an inappropriate connotation (racism? sexism?) but they eventually implemented it so I guess not
funnily enough, nidoran(f) and nidoran(m) are actually a bad example of this, due to how they're coded (they're more akin to volbeat and illumise than they are to the other examples in that chart). your point still stands, though
completely pointless feature that most wont even notice
it really should have only been used for creatures based on real life animals with dimorphism
cannot even imagine how frustrating it must be to be a modeler at creatures

The only based Battle Frontier, the one from gen 4 was trash compared to it, except for the Arcade.
Returning to earlier regions. They clearly regret doing that for GSC. That’s the only explanation I can come with as to why Johto never gets any respect in this damn franchise, why the Johto starters constantly get the short end of everything, and why there has never been a game that returned to an earlier region despite fans crying for that feature (though these same people who make 10 hour essays rambling about how Johto as nothing but a doormat for Kanto, but then again pokefans are hypocrites and morons what else is new)
I would think Game Freak and TPC would be appreciative of Johto considering that people seemed to like them on release but I guess fricking not.
all the evolution/form changing items that they gotta remember to add every single time, no exceptions
if rhyhorn is in the dex, they gotta add the protector for rhyperior. if magby is in the dex, they gotta add the magmarizer for magmortar. and so on and so forth. doesn't help that they still keep making new ones, either; they just recently made the metal alloy for archaludon, which they will now be obligated to add every time duraludon is in a game
Reminder that in every game that came out after Platinum, the Honey Gather has literally ZERO USE. Literally just worst sweet scent which the main user of honey gather will always have in its moveset.
Seriously, I don’t get it. Honey trees were originally planned for GSC. Why not take on the opportunity to put them in HGSS at the very least?
Because Honey Trees were and still kinda are the most stupid kind of encounter in the map. First of all, they have a shitmon encounter table that is common between to all trees in the game which means you have no reason to bother with a Honey Tree after the first time you enter in contact with one..... except for the Munchlax encounter. Other than that hhey're pretty much headbutt trees but you need to waste a consumable everytime you have to trigger it.
doesn't top your's though
>put groudon and kyogre on the cover
>they don't appear in the game
What did they mean by this?
The beasts are the legends you get in the story mode, while Kyogre and Groudon are used by the 'final bosses' of battle mode (Infin and Inity in the Orre Colosseum).
they did too many small changes instead of using it sparingly and impactfully
This is definitely one of those features that sounds like a good idea in theory but is annoying as frick in practice. As says, it should’ve been used more sparingly.
that's like the one thing they could cut and get literally no pushback. amazing that they haven't yet
You'd piss off a ton of genners and shiny hunters

Contact moves have a 30% chance to cause attack to drop 1 stage.
gay
>half of all pikachus have a weird tail now for no reason
i would be happy if they just ditched this and forgot it was ever a thing
why do they keep doing this
To sell more merch like the ~~*merchants*~~ they are. Children and manchildren love the toy bracelets and shit based on the newest goyslop gimmick
They don't regret these, they intentionally push generational gimmicks for "uniqueness" (aka marketing).
The moment we get a pokemon game that supplants the idea of a generational gimmick, they would probably refuse to put them all in the same game.
I wonder what made them decide to bring megas back now? I assumed they'd do it when sales dropped but S/V sold amazingly well. Is it because they're running out of ideas for gimmicks?
It's because SV was so rushed Game Freak forgot to give CHARIZARD a special snowflake form, so they're bringing back its megas.
I'd guess they settleled on Kalos for the new legends because they new it needed closure on some of its plotlines, and since it was the place that megas were introduced they figured they might as well add them into the game. I doubt megas are coming back to mainline but I could be wrong.
>Why would they bring mega evolution in the region that introduced mega evolution?
Gee i really wonder
this feature would be soul if most of the differences weren't just 'the male/female pokemon's distinct feature is bigger', the ones with different markings like girafarig and cacturne or completely different body parts like meganium and venusaur (bonus points for using cool plant biology here) are so cool.
I have genuinely never noticed this at all. Not even a bit. What the frick
homie not even Hippowdon? Are you blind?
I think about Hippowden so infrequently that no, I didn’t. Wobuffet I see now is the only one I’ve known about
I don't get it.
They literally removed all of them but the Normal Gem.
What did you not understand?
Flying Gem Acrobatics will be missed.
Archeops was forever robbed of his turn 1 nuke
These were mostly just overhauled into Z moves.
I remember they used to not let you use the black hippo on showdown. I thought maybe it had an inappropriate connotation (racism? sexism?) but they eventually implemented it so I guess not

Still exists, but no longer in the actual games
completely pointless feature that most wont even notice

Pretty fun, but the streaks were always way too fricking long.

Game Freak regrets GSC because it was the last time Tajiri was in charge and the last time they put extra-effort into everything
all the evolution/form changing items that they gotta remember to add every single time, no exceptions

Obviously because of headbutt. 2 different features working the same way with tree encounters is just messy.
Honey triggers Horde Encounters in XY
