the sam DLC has a way, way better moveset than raiden's indeed
Blade Wolf DLC wasnt bad. It was short, it was stealth focused and wolf is 10x better at stealth. The fighting was actually not so bad because you usually faced few enemies where your shallow moveset still holds novelty, and the boss was pretty neat despite no lyrics
Most people are moronic and don't use the parry. The game has a simple move set yeah but it can still be pretty satisfying to play. I love how over the top it is. There are genuine complaints like the drab environments.

New Vegas was initially disliked on Ganker, in part because of the massive assload of bugs and crashes but in general it was seen as the "CRPG for Bethesdashit plebs" (probably should blame RPGCodex for that), I know because I was basically the only one defending the game around 2011-2012 until it started being more liked, maybe the DLC helped.
This even happens with specific game mechanics. Ganker always hated random crits in TF2, then some e-celeb makes a video about how random crits are bad and all of a sudden random crits are a good thing actually.
Ganker liked the first FNAF for about a few days before the Youtubers picked it up. I don't blame Ganker too hard in that instance though because FNAF's popularity did end up ruining the whole thing.

never played any metal gear game but im interested in this mostly because of the memes. i do plan on eventually getting into the metal gear series proper but do i need to know anything beforehand if i want to play rising?
It takes place after MGS4 which is the end of the "main" story, if you haven't played any of the actual games I would say the only thing you need to know is that (spoilers for the plot twist of MGS2) Raiden was a child soldier in the past, killed a lot of people and became known as "Jack the Ripper" due to how effective and brutal he was, but his memories of it were repressed until the end of MGS2. I don't recall if it's brought up in MGR in detail, but it's basically the context as to why Jack's dealing with the whole "constantly trying to repress his violent urges/Jack the Ripper" thing. Besides that, the game is pretty much works fine on its own, at worst you miss some context for Raiden's character but it still doesn't seem jarring or like you have to play the other MGS games.
I tried it for the first time last week and was disappointed by it's shitty port to PC >no higher res >can't use fullscreen w/o framelock >mods to fix this break parrying >game started crashing

New Vegas was initially disliked on Ganker, in part because of the massive assload of bugs and crashes but in general it was seen as the "CRPG for Bethesdashit plebs" (probably should blame RPGCodex for that), I know because I was basically the only one defending the game around 2011-2012 until it started being more liked, maybe the DLC helped.

2010 to 2013 New Vegas was mostly disliked then it started getting loved as the best RPG ever and now its "hated".
This even happens with specific game mechanics. Ganker always hated random crits in TF2, then some e-celeb makes a video about how random crits are bad and all of a sudden random crits are a good thing actually.

Ganker liked the first FNAF for about a few days before the Youtubers picked it up. I don't blame Ganker too hard in that instance though because FNAF's popularity did end up ruining the whole thing.

Undertale's most common "criticism" here wasn't that the game was good but community was cringe, it was that the game was liked by Tumblr and therefore the game was Tumblr SJW shit and everyone who liked it must be a Tumblr SJW landwhale insert extra buzzword of the time here. None of these people actually played the game, they couldn't list anything that actually happened in the game, but they didn't care; it was liked by their enemies, and nothing their enemies liked could be any good. never played any metal gear game but im interested in this mostly because of the memes. i do plan on eventually getting into the metal gear series proper but do i need to know anything beforehand if i want to play rising?
i've only played MGR and enjoyed it both gameplay and story wise, so no need.
It takes place after MGS4 which is the end of the "main" story, if you haven't played any of the actual games I would say the only thing you need to know is that (spoilers for the plot twist of MGS2) Raiden was a child soldier in the past, killed a lot of people and became known as "Jack the Ripper" due to how effective and brutal he was, but his memories of it were repressed until the end of MGS2. I don't recall if it's brought up in MGR in detail, but it's basically the context as to why Jack's dealing with the whole "constantly trying to repress his violent urges/Jack the Ripper" thing. Besides that, the game is pretty much works fine on its own, at worst you miss some context for Raiden's character but it still doesn't seem jarring or like you have to play the other MGS games.
