Wouldn't say I'm that experienced with this genre, but I found the game extremely oppressive and not particularly informative in its UI and such. Have pretty mixed feelings as a result, since the visuals have some measure of comfort to them, but the game is pretty vicious. I say this as a person who enjoys difficult games.

      Anonymous

The single player version is easier since armor stacks in that one, so if you have head and body armor they both reduce DMG by 80% together, so an attack worth 100HP deals like 4DMG.
And all enemies in that version have way less health.

why do the new updates to DST feel so superficial

      Anonymous

it's all endgame catered to endgame people, but they havent added or changed anything early to mid game
honestly, I like the early/midgame as is and would prefer if they didnt frick shit up with it

Haven't played in about a year but I think they're just running out of shit the can conceivably do with the game is running slim. I'm still baffled by the monkey island update that ultimately amounted to just introducing actual bridges into the game. I think them deciding to go back and re-refresh after finally rounding out all the characters is evidence of that(not that I think this is necessarily bad, quite few of those refreshes were not good). Game seemed a lot less stable the last time I played too. Shame they won't ever add the singleplayer dlc to dst

because they divided don't starve into two separate games and gave both lackluster uninteresting superficial updates and additions instead of actually making something worth playing.

I never get past the first winter because my friends suck at resource management and die to the most stupid shit. And ofcourse they don't want to play it again because they refuse to learn.

    Game is shit though.

if you can't get through the winter with multiple dead weight players then you also suck though

        Anonymous

I have at certain points but winter + hounds is usually the big filter, especially when I have to juggle everything and fight them off all by myself.

          Anonymous

A hambat is strong enough to kill a hound in 3-4 hits, which means that you can kill them quickly enough to fight one or two at the same time. Even if you facetank, you will get hit once or twice per hound which isn't much, assuming you have a helmet (which you should). Standing near a burning tree with a helmet equipped pretty much negates most of the physical damage you would take while also keeping you warm. You could even cut the amount of times you get hit by dodging the initial attack. Hounds spawned to attack other players won't attack you for a while, so you don't really have to care about them at first.

Only way i could imagine this going wrong is if your friends died and killed none of their hounds. But then, all you would really need to do is to run to few pigs/beefalos to take the aggro from you.

Why the frick did they go in the direction of having 50 bosses that you have to kill when the combat is the most simplistic and boring shit ever?

The survival part of the game is too easy and simplistic, once you understand what to do the only threat is being attacked by hounds at an inconvenient time.

They saw Terraria being way more successful and decided to try and copy that even though it doesn't fit the fricking game at all.

      Anonymous

Klei doesn't want to change the basics of survival too much as doing so will make the game harder to get into for new players.
Players who buy DST based on youtube videos they saw from a year ago might die instantly because of a new thirst meter or whatever.

Also it would hugely frick over worlds which have existed continually for years by adding new challenges

  7. 7 months ago

The problem with this game is its too easy to "beat" to where you will not and cannot die by playing it safe, as soon as you have fridges for the winter and fire control for the summer its over. You can live forever doing the same thing over and over.

So to extract fun for the game, you must expand, do more new things, explore, whatever... but thats how you die, and when you die you have your world wiped, and have to do it allllllll again, all that tree cutting, all that sitting around, all that grass picking (yes I know theres minimal ways to revive, still expenisve)

Take the caves, 0 reason to go in there if you want to survive, but highly dangerous and most likely going to kill you if you are new to them, more trial and error deaths on top of the "how do I beat winter" "how do I beat summer" stages you already went through.

You know that phrase, given enough time players will optimise the fun out of games? Thats dont starve, only you have to take a very inefficient and dangerous step in order to have more fun.

Either go permadeath or dont, the game as is will unironically be better without permadeath, just have some other punishment. Or, if they want permadeath, they need to rebalance everything to make doing the extra shit is actually worth the risk. Imagine if you can only get farms from the ruins or something.

Good game, poorly designed, fun to play but not fun to replay making death extra bad leading to boring playstyles

      Anonymous

But shouldn't your goal be like getting down into the deepest reaches and killing all the bosses?

        Anonymous

Sure, but the longer you play the more you feel you have to lose, so if youve never been to the caves or ruins, a player on day 300 or whatever may be apprehensive about risking everything for a boss fight, knowing theyd likely die.

Its a game were most blind players will die multiple times before learning, I mean, we all used to die to winter at one point right? But when its only day 10 who gives a frick, when you have actual time on the line, youre less likely to want to risk play some stuff and thus the game descends into boring monotony even though theres cool things to do. And again, if you die youre doing it aaaaalll again. No thanks.

Id either kill permadeath, but make it harder and more rewarding to do hard stuff, or keep it but make it quicker to recover, heck like other roguelikes with permadeath some perma buffs maybe.

Once you beat winter and summer and are living well, any death is strictly your own fault because you deliberately stepped out of the comfort zone - and not because you HAD to.

I always wanted to get into this game but then I just get reminded of how stupid it is
    >buildings are just pure functionality, can't make anything to just look good
    >progression is pointless because you'll still just do the same stuff but with different items
    >combat is all the same attack dodge loop, only distinctions being some gimmick items for cheesing
    >no goal to set out for yourself, you might as well stay in your base and cook rabbits in your crock pot until the end of the world
Who is this game for? This just survival for the sake of survival.
The multiplayer one is even worse, it's just people making a new world everytime just to boss rush everything, what is the point of it being a survival game then?

Tha pic is regular don't starve when you mean don't starve together.
Linking the 3 dlc worlds in regular don't starve to have a whole pig Hamlet in the regular RoG island and a house + a coffee bean farm and ruins shit is the most ludo experience and we literally don't stop getting QoL updates with shit from together.

Feel kind of bad for anyone who got together instead of regular old Don't Starve when they wanted a solo experience and had to deal with the mmo frickery lol. Bro you don't have friends, why didn't you get the one DESIGNED around singleplayer lol.

Terraria revealed the ultimate proof of Ganker being infested with trannies to me.
The FIRST time I've genuinely seen users on this site shitting on this game was because they removed a weapon that was a speedrunning skip, and it was legitimate anger.

removing waterbolt as a pre dungeon obtainable made it go from fan favorite to never used
the devs just need to stop fricking with their game for literally no reason. Especially when it comes to red's wife's oc boss EoL which they keep tweaking so it cant be cheesed

The next update will make it so EoL only drops the terraprisma in a master mode world so you have to deal with the hp bloat on top of all the other patches to the fight.

It's like a totally different game now. Half the characters have skill trees with their core ability reworked in some way. Then to actually progress you have to find and set all the marbel statues to get the shadow heart to go into the underground to fimd a way deeper to use it on an RNG made bone sculpture in a room to get stuff, then there's something with juice and a walking puzzle down there. Then you need to use a moonstine staff on a world object on a lunar eclipse night. Then you need to do grandma's quests on an island to fight the crab kind. Then some thing spawns so you can make a triangle or some shit after you find the spirit gem shards.

I honestly don't know how the game guides you to figure out or rationalize any of this shit.

    What were they thinking?

      Anonymous

They blew their load too early by introducing adventure mode before even RoG. I consider adventure mode a more useless addition in it's current state than the caves.

      >Tha pic is regular don't starve when you mean don't starve together.
No, I'm talking about the singleplayer one.

It's got the perfect ammount of content though?
The bloat comes from linking everything together and you usually do that when you've already "beaten" every dlc world anyways so you're mostly cruising through the game treating it like a sandbox.

I play single player RoG, and it's nice since its the same game it was all those years ago.
Well I think they did add beefalo riding and the enemies you can find at the end of the suspicious dirt piles.

In DST if you die, but there is another person alive, that other player can give you a revive with an item called 'the tell tale heart.'

But if everyone dies, and no one can make it to a revive station in time, then the world is deleted

        Anonymous

how hard it is to obtain that item and how often it could happen to be party wiped?

          Anonymous

          >how hard it is to obtain that item
you need to kill a spider or two.
Very easy to obtain. Especially if you have a Wendy(Abigail) on your team.

You should only get party wiped if you either fricked up massively all together, in which case you'd probably want to start over, or if you had every player on a server go on the same boss fight/raid.

If you just leave on player alive, you'll be good.
