The followup where Blow cries in a dark room while Soulja cackles over him always makes me feel better.
Fuck off already.

Never.
as much as I hate it because I love the games
but the whole souls series is devoid of a plot
"oh this vague thing leads to this other vague thing and some stuff happens and then more vagueness"
the most coherent plot is easily Bloodborne and that still suffers from the curse of vague
the plot is hands down the worst part of the Souls series and no amount of fan theorizing and void filling will change that
I'd argue the most coherent is Dark Souls 1, because it uses the vagueness of its storytelling as part of the actual story. They're trying to keep the truth from you, you're not supposed to understand things. When you're going through the world trying to find the truth, that's what you're actually doing in character.
Kaathe gives you an exposition dump you have to earn, he's not there to the benefit of the player only.
In most games or any other form of storytelling, the antagonists plotting to fool the protagonist into serving them would be either shown plotting behind the character's back in a cutscene or whatever, or maybe a plot twist near the end where they reveal everything, but in Dark Souls 1, if Frampt and Gwyndolin manage to fool you into believing the Chosen Undead crap, you'll link the fire, finish the game and never learn the truth. It's not character A fools character B, it's antagonists fool the player. Dark Souls 1's main story is actually brilliant, easily the best in the series and doesn't get enough credit because people like ayy lmaos.
The linking or not of the fire doesn't resolve the plot though. Who was the furtive pygmy? Why did the undead curse start? just because the fire was dying? Miyazaki has explicitly stated he writes stories with the intention of there being unanswered questions which I believe to be less fascinating and engaging and more lazy writing.
There was something about the pigmy, wasn't he ancestors whatever?
Undead curse was started by the church, faith of the white or whatever the fuck name.
Bruh pick a good lore channel not vaativydya

His demon video, the shame of undead curse, ash lake video are top tier. Figured out a lot more than others
If you want a more straightforward story told to you start to finish, I think Demon's is way better at that than Bloodborne. Only Sekiro is more direct, but I don't know if you're considering it as "one of these" or not.
Admittedly never played Sekiro I just think for all the over exposition in games the souls series had too little where I found myself walking away from a climactic encounter going, "what was that? why did I fight this person/thing?" the story bread crumbs were TOO intentionally vague
Sekiro is a lot more character driven, so they flesh out the characters more, give them motivations and interpersonal conflicts and shit. There's still the lore of the land, but you can ignore every single item description and finish the game understanding the entire story. Only one specific item will seem like an ass pull because it's only mentioned before it appears in a lore note, but other than that, everything is clearly communicated.
The only downside is that it was localized by Activision, not Frognation, their usual partner, and the result is inferior. But at least the japanese voice track (as well as the original writing) is great.
You just don't like the way the games frame things, and that's fine. But there's a reason why so many people get captivated by Souls, and Miyazaki's writing. It sparks your imagination, and it actually uses the medium of video games to tell what it wants to tell.
that's correct
I don't want to write my own story
I want to be told a story
That's cool. Though you're not really "writing your own story." These games do have a narrative, it's just pieced together through gathering lore, and context. Part of it's a mystery.
Elden Ring, for instance, is an incredibly simple story: you're there to kill all the demi-gods, and claim a throne, but what's interesting is learning about the characters, their motives, the world, and how it's ended up in this state.
except you never really do learn why or what happened or what the origin is and besides the broad strokes
Do you have any specific questions on your mind? I mean there are genuine mysteries that don't get answered, like Marika-Radagon, but that's framed as a mystery directly in-story.
all demakes
>HOW HE DID THAT
the fucking background commentary every time
>soulja boy incoherently rambles while clearly completely smashed
>winds up completely destroying the game and offering a yet unrefuted takedown of its selling point
Why does Braid get up people's asshole so much? Even if you don't like the pretentious abstract "plot" it's still a perfectly serviceable surface-level puzzle platformer.
I’d rather just play something that knows what it is rather than trying to be something else
it's just mario from the future
People do not like seeing Mario in a business suit.
Because after Fez and The Witness people realized Blow had his head up his own ass. It was a natural reaction towards the over-inflating arrogance of the indie scene.
does it matter? The rewind time mechanic was novel and interesting. The worst thing i remember about him is shittalking programmers in general which isnt my problem.
Sands of Time?
Prince of Persia only ever used time rewind as a way to undo platforming mistakes. Braid's use of it was significantly more interesting.
>Does it matter
No not really, I mean yeah it's an alright puzzle game. Like everything else here, there is always the inability of people to purely judge a game by its mechanics and just go with whatever culture war is happening at the time.
In this case, the peak hipster gayry of the 2010s left a sour taste in peoples mouths and this game will never really escape that.
>fez
Fez was "created" by Phil "Choke on it" Fish but in reality Blow was the one who programmed the majority of it.
People were blinded by their hatred of Phil but it soon became apparent that Blow was also at fault.
At the time people really hated Phish
>Mario from the future
the point is nice guys are bad, a lot of times this is real but making a whole game around it surveting video game tropes just tells the creator of this game is bitter dipshit.
ITT: Games that are for people who smoke, or people who drink; like if you drink beer and get drunk or if you smoke weed and get high
OR JUS BE GETTIN FUCKED UP
For me it's the going back in time potion that don't never run out.
OOOOOOOOP
>games for people who smoke or drink
>can rewind time to solve problems and fix mistakes
>climax features irrefutable proof of the MCs broken relationship
>some problems can’t be solved, nor mistakes fixed, even with time travel
Wow, its hard to grasp
He didn't have enough of that going back in time juice
So where does nuclear bombs fit into it?
whooooooooooooop
he look like mario in the future
