Love story? I remember Noctis was supposed to marry Lunatea but I don't remember any love story. Unless you mean the bromance the four guys form.
>You can now be 18 years old and never even touched an N64 in your life
Your gay revision of history aside, the game was always considered a shitty version of Banjo-Tooie and led to Donkey Kong being shelved as a serious franchise for quite some time. He was below Yoshi status.
Terrible fricking game with way too many types of collectibles that could only be picked up by specific characters.
DK64 was always a poor man’s Banjo.
>"poor man's"
You don't know what that means. DK64 cost more to make and market than the two Banjo titles combined. There's nothing poorman about it, it was a collosal frick up that cost Nintendo, Rareware, and the DK franchise.
Any e-celeb could make a video on why Air is Good, and you homosexuals would suffocate out of pure contrarianism.
Counterpoint, if an e-celeb told you inhaling car fumes was toxic, you suck on an exhaust pipe.
don't be a hipster that likes things because they're obscure
don't like things because other people like them
don't be a Black person and stand up for things you actually like and or care about, fricking sick of you living wojaks.
OP is right tho people only give dk64 shit because of e-celeb criticisms. You hardly ever need to swap kongs to beat the game, that only becomes an issue if you want to 100% the game.
People who b***h about that are too stupid to realize that you hardly need every banana for 100% completion, just treat it as a litmus test and be done with it. I'm tired of not being able to talk about a series without some homosexual quoting or seething about some fricking video or meme that has gained traction.
Especially if said game is so niche that it could benefit from some attention to show some fricking interest. It's not like devs come here for Q&A, I don't doubt devs here and there have or could browse here. But definitely not upfront consistently and for good reason.
point is, both parties that suffer from this herd mentality are fricking obnoxious. DK64 has some pacing issues, but all those playable characters, transformations, hub worlds within hub worlds, minigames, etc. Are taken for granted. I don't think saying that is centrist or takes that much fricking effort at all.
OP is a gay, always and forever and so are his followers.
What I expected: Donkey Kong platforming but in 3D like Mario and Zelda's 3D conversions
What I got: Banjo Kazooie but with awkwardly controlling characters
DK 64 is a perfect example of quantity over quality. Even putting aside the issues with the arbitrary character restrictions, the overabundance of "bonus" barrels, especially in the lategame, show that they didn't have much faith in their moment-to-moment gameplay being engaging enough on its own.
I quite enjoyed some of them like Mad Maze Maul, or Stealthy Snoop, and some were fine like avoid the TNT, or tower defence but too often they end up being Beaver Bother or slots
I loved this as a kid
although I hated the rare and nintendo challenges
The rare one was a pain, the tekkers we used in my family was to stay on the first level and rack up points there. Plus it was kind of fitting for Cranky to hide it behind some obscure vintage game
I'm the opposite I like DK64, and not Mario Odyssey since it felt like Odyssey was handing out moons far too easily, even if DK64 would go too far the other way and throw an un-fun minigame in at the end
There is a rom hack that removes the back tracking that youd do to switch kongs that makes the game perfect.
Thats literally the games only flaw and the only thing ecelebs point out.
Some of the minigames are pretty bad, and they tend to be the ones they copy and paste. Having two Beaver bother minigames in the same level was awful
People who think the flaw of Mario Odyssey is Moon availability are morons. The real thing that held it back from eclipsing 64 was the fact that much of the game is spent in a form that isn't Mario. They gave Mario arguably his most complex moveset ever and then crafted a game partially around removing that ability from the player.
>They gave Mario arguably his most complex moveset ever and then crafted a game partially around removing that ability from the player.
They designed the entire game around never using the moveset. The only thing you get for using the movement is a few coins and skipping all of the level design. It's literally more fun to not use the movement so you can actually experience the level.
I'll tell people I knew that old Ganker culture was dead and the site was worthless when I saw people unironically defending algorithm promoted e-celebs.
Pointing out that
1. Youtubers don't like X
2. People used to like X back in the day/X got good reviewers
Doesn't actually matter. You aren't describing the quality of a game at all, you're just inferring the idea that secondary opinions exist. If you like a game, why don't you just say why you like it, instead of doing this shit?
You're not addressing the point and you're playing linguistic games like the little commie that you are. The reason why this frustrates anons is algorithm promoted little fricks who give back alley blow jobs to the modern games industry turn around and misrepresent a game, and then people give that opinion credence like it has any value. Get rope and take a swing.
i used to really love DK64 and replayed it every year. then i saw a video on youtube about why it's bad, and now i hate the game.
>legitmately bad games the fanbase uses the "e-celeb hates it so his fans hate it" defense
Just like Sonic 2006 and FF8
t. zoomers who parrots youtubers on Ganker
See, the funny thing is that DK64 has ecelebs making videos defending it too. Two-way street, gay.
Sonic 06 is legitimately bad, and FF8 focuses too much on being a love story after how climatic FF6 and FF7 were.
FF8 is still my personal favourite tho, and I will time from time reload 06 just to run around/try a mission before remembering the load times.
>and FF8 focuses too much on being a love story
and a poorly written one, 2nd worst love story in the series. XV's is the only worse love story
>FFXV
Love story? I remember Noctis was supposed to marry Lunatea but I don't remember any love story. Unless you mean the bromance the four guys form.
>I remember Noctis was supposed to marry Lunatea but I don't remember any love story.
that was the extent of the "love story" for 15. Noctis was in a politically arranged marriage with Stella.
No romantic development. Hell, NO INTERACTION BETWEEN THE TWO OUTSIDE OF A FLASHBACK 10 YEARS BEFORE THE EVENT OF THE GAME
that does exist:

actually I don't know if it was Miffed Mike or the Kinect that did this game dirty
>You can now be 18 years old and never even touched an N64 in your life

Anon, you can be 18 and have never touched a GameCube.

I love Donkey Kong 64 so much but the criticisms for it are valid. I hope the next smash Diddy has red banana peels
I wonder. Did someone make a mod to change characters in any moment? That will improve DK64 for sure
thoroughly enjoyed it as a kid, and im sure most people who played it at the time did as well
Can confirm I enjoyed playing it.
just in general

Frick these Arin Hanson wannabes. I hate ECeleb reviewers so fricking much.
I loved this as a kid

*coin
I hated it before Youtube even existed.
Does Conker Reloaded control any better compared to n64?
Anyone who hates DK64 and also likes Mario Odyssey is a fricking moron. They both have the same problem, and are both shit games.

DK64 would become a 10/10 game if you didn't need to constant backtrack to a tag barrel to switch Kongs
