fake gameplay trailer and a billion issues, i forgot the details but i remember that there was some kind of error where the basic initial weapon was killing enemies faster than endgame weapons
Nahh, it was enemy health being scaled based on weapon damage meaning that weapon upgrades were pointless as you'd take the same amount of time to kill enemies
I remember reading it overheated your console so much it literally managed to kill some. Probably the explosion part is bait, but it really was the most ambitious yet broken, glitchy, unoptimized and just lame game EA ever had their hands on as a publisher.
Didn't end the studio but it did end the fake air of infallibility that they had. I wonder if they'd have actually buckled down and made it good if critics hadn't sucked off Dragon Age:Inquisition despite its mediocrity.
>it did end the fake air of infallibility that they had
that was dragon age origins and mass effect 2 being the culprits there, if we're being honest
dragon age origins showed that they NEEDED wizards of the coast or other license holders in order to tard wrangle their stupid ideas
and mass effect 2 was just really poor writing and focusing on bland characters with one note daddy issues and showed the trilogy thing they were going to try going for couldn't be executed with the people they have on staff
> dragon age origins showed that they NEEDED wizards of the coast or other license holders in order to tard wrangle their stupid ideas
Literally no idea wtf you’re talking about. Origins (despite being a knock off LOTR) was still a massive success and popular asf. Ffs the game had a modding scene that outlasted DA2 and prolly Inquisition.
inquisition had such obvious sequel bait for an ending and was a success which kept them on life support (nevermind dreadwolf has been in such dev hell almost no one is braced for anything but a disaster)
LE gave them enough of a boost to plan for a revival of ME but honestly if dreadwolf is an outright flop I think it kills the studio
having a soft spot for lootershooters, i carry a torch for this game. yes, virtually everything about it was/is terrible, but fighting and flying in the javelins felt fantastic and the map was fun to explore. there was a fun game in there somewhere, but they fumbled literally every aspect that wasn't moment to moment action gameplay. side story - >lived in edmonton >worked with a guy whose son played hockey with a bioware employee's son >never got the bioware dude's name but i think he was management >coworker is a destinydad but otherwise doesn't game >bioware guy tells him anthem is going to be the destiny killer >constantly hypes him up for it at kid's practices/games >anthem comes out >coworker plays it for a week, hates it >tells bioware guy at hockey that the game sucks >bioware guy is apologetic >tells him to hang in there, they're working on it etc >hockey season ends before the game ever gets good >coworker seethes about anthem for months
kek
>starfield was le worst game ever >sold pretty well >wasn't that bad a game
I know it's just really easy to hate bethesda, but why not take a step back and consider that for a AAA dev they have more successes than most.
probably more than a decade ago now, I just think most criticism of Bethesda (especially online) isn't super productive, I imagine it's hard to take any of the good feedback when the vast majority of the feedback is not very well thought out.
May I remind you that Square Enix hasn’t come out with a good game in a long time and they’re still on going. And starfield wasn't as bad as SE’s worst bombs.
Remember anon, Copies of Skyrim still sell because every year some Kid gets his first PC. On top of that theyre owned by microsoft now who wont just scrap them right after buying them
My guess is TES6 will be another CyberPunk in terms of hype because people are stupid, and it will be just as big of a dissapointment.
Even if the writing is shit though, like Fallout 4, as long as the map is fun to explore like in Fo4, people will forgive them.
>TES6 will be another CyberPunk
Why wait that long? People are already forgiving fallout 76 and that shit had an even worse launch than cyberpunk what with multiple collectors edition scams on top of being an unplayable mess on launch.
I'm telling you, in ~5 years we'll see "Starfield is good now" posts
I'll actually disagree with you here, People werent really hyped for starfield from what i saw, it was more cautious optimism. Had 76 not released the hype would be critical mass
People are catching on and i think just going to apathy instead of anger. Bethesda really isnt "forgiven" more just being forgotten
I doubt people will even remember StarField was a thing in 5 years
TES though? Absoulutly, if its memorable. >Captcha: AGRY
I'd argue unless we see some crazy shit the hype for ES6 will be tempered, even as time passes. 76 and Starfield were just that bad that expectations have been curbed.
The point is, regardless of hype or initial failure there will be people saying it's not that bad day 1 as the game shits itself around them and given a year, patches, some DLC, mods, and a discount people will just be saying it's good.
>TES6 will be another CyberPunk

And why not? This has already happened with Halo Infinite. That was a shit show for the first few years and now its got a fanbase. Live service culture will make sure that starfield opinions will shift later after all the updates.
It's just a matter of time before the internet starts pretending that Haze was a hidden gem and underrated masterpiece.
We've reached a point where a game being garbage and people shitting on said game for being garbage became "problematic".
That's been going on for ages. Look at the Starship Troopers movie. Shit gets reevaluated by people who got it for free as ten year olds telling the adults who paid for it their opinion doesn't matter.
I pirated it when it first came out, I was in highschool, the helmets shattering was really cool at the time, still kind of is
rest of the game was pretty gay
People only do this with scrimblo bimblo nintendo coded shit, where they pretend some knockoff platformer or jrpg they played as a kid is good. Nobody will ever give a frick about haze
sony has consistently shat out the strangest and least used features of any company I've ever seen. Who used any of these options anyways? Streaming peggle from your PSP to the PS3? Makes no sense.
Sony mandated they use the six-axis controls, which meant flying felt like shit. The game's playable and fun even with normal controls but the damage was already done.
God. Could you imagine taking in the Blackrock money to corrupt your vision, your game and product and implement their DEI thinking its good business when the politics and incompetence DEI sabotage your produce so bad it cripples and shuts down your studio?
CEOs, Managers are so distant from their own product they only see whats in the office and think the people they hire are nice family when really they are insidious beings that hate working their, hate the product and hate themselves. Poo in the loo.
I still can't fathom how this even happened; >Isekai Genre >mostly read by whites and asians >most protagonists of the isekai genre are plain as can possibly be for the sole purpose of self inserting with names that are usually the equivalent of "John Smith" for japan >instead of making this game have a character creator, they make it about a homeless criminal black woman, the least liked female type for white and asian men >they then make it as quippy as possible when those same fricking people who like this genre fricking hate that bullshit >they then also make it very "woke"
I just don't understand how you even get to this point.
Sometimes I lay awake at night wondering how this game happened and who it was even meant to be for. Why? I wish there was a documentary around the entire making of this game. I'm so utterly confused.
I’ve seen most of the game played and it really isn’t woke at all. It’s more of a stereotypical 90s-era “black person tries to overcome the hood life” story than anything. And the game doesn’t make some feminist statement about the all-female heroes of the fantasy world either. It’s just how it is and there’s nothing more to it. Not saying the game is good, but just that woke isn’t the game’s problem.
But it's so obvious, anon >cast Ella Bazinga >realize your face scanners fricked up and she becomes an unholy abomination when her face moves >can't sell game based on the hotness of the lead >go full woke to cut losses
100% confirmed
literally just worked in my game, what did you morons even do for the dog to not work
the actual issue this game has is that a turbo niche product got super ambitious and in the end released on a completely different console while still looking and running like ass
at least it did release unlike Wild
Does this one count? The studio was already about to close before this game was even half completed, then Sony kept the studio on financial life support just so that they would finish this game and then close down.
What was the point? They made ICO and shadow of the collosus, why did they bank everything ok this one shit idea? Didn't they have other ideas to work with?
In fairness to Mr. KEK HATE literally nobody expected anything from Fortnite. It was some directionless PvE project Epic was putting less resources into than shit like Paragon and Chair's Infinity Blade Dungeons. The BR mode was a last ditch experiment by the team of like three or four guys who were still on it to make it do something and it by a stroke of luck became the biggest game in the world.

This is it, it was a shitty F2P nobody wanted to touch but as soon as they jumped on the PUBG FOTM craze that PC gays seem to jump on every other month people all jumped shit, zoomers caught wind of the new fad and epic started calling in favors of using IPs in their game and thats it biggest game in the world.
If it was not for the copy paste of PUBG that game would be dead right now.
I feel bad for that guy for not patenting BR...
he left because epic made a deal with tencent. Tencent would help them make a maximum israelite F2P game, in return they were allowed to buy 25% of epic's stock. Cliffy and some others didnt like tencent so they left because of that.
Damn I've seen that before where China pulls people away from their own businesses or employment at a some major place and lures then into a trap that ruins them.
China made a fake company to hire Intel software and hardware engineers, briefly scalped information from them after they left Intel and went to China to a bare bones office in China then the company just went under leaving the former Intel veterans that help build that empire with dirt in their hands in China.
Here it was more of a >we will help you but we want to make a profit off of it when it goes well. A lot of the old staff left because they wanted to make fun games, not zoomer milking machines
>some goon a couple years ago decides to dig this post up to show the admins >cliffyb hasn't even posted on the something awful forums in over a decade and a half at that point >admins permaban cliffyb for posting that anyway >mfw
Lawbreakers was the deepest and most skillful arena FPS ever made; it was Cliffy B at the absolute top of his game.
Its failure is only proof that nobody cares about are FPS games anymore. And you Black folk mocking it only means none of you care about arena FPS games either.
Timesplitters devs made a shit PS3 exclusive FPS that was meant to compete with Halo. It flopped and they got shutdown. As a bonus Embracer bought the rights to Timesplitters and had a revival game in the works. Which then got cancelled when Embracer's expected funding injection from the Saudis fell through and they started cutting a bunch of projects.

QRD on Lair? I got it like a decade ago with a bunch of other used PS3 games but never touched it, what's so bad about it?
Sixaxis controls are aids and were mandatory for the initial release period leading to mediocre reviews and underwhelming sales. Normal controls were patched in but too little too late
>Which then got cancelled when Embracer's expected funding injection from the Saudis fell through and they started cutting a bunch of projects.
Man, another franchise down the shitter
While it's a real shame that the revival got cancelled, we did at least get to laugh at this fricking game and the clueless argument dumbasses behind it.
It's a shame the studio died because the SR2 PC patch probably won't get finished now.
That being said, I'm doubtful that they were even working on it though they promised to.
there was a very small team working it but the main guy leading said team, and the one with the most familiarity of the original game and how it could be ported/remastered, unfortunately died of cancer. this was before the new shit game released and bombed. it's been an unlikely release for years.
This game not only killed Volition, it effectively crumbled Embracer which in turn got Timesplitters cancelled. We also now won't see IdolNinja's PC patch for Saints Row 2, nor the new Deus Ex title.
Would you really want to see fricking TIMESPLITTERS pozzed up? I cannot think of anything more unfortunate.
Future Perfect had a lot more gay/trans jokes than I remember when I replayed it last year, and that's based, and should stay based and be current yeared.
While it's a real shame that the revival got cancelled, we did at least get to laugh at this fricking game and the clueless argument dumbasses behind it.
Saints Row 2022 saddens me greatly. In tiny aspects like the open world and character customization it felt like there was an attempt to improve upon SR3 and get back to something closer to the first two, but the combat was infinitely worse than 3's and fricking nothing happened storywise. At the bare minimum I expected young criminals starting a gang and ending up being in over their heads, and we didnt even get that.

>I'm mad, frick Embracer Group.
Yeah genuinely, I have no idea why they banked their entire plan on getting $2bn from Saudis and bought up all the IPs and studios before they even confirmed the deal
moronic as frick

All the studio they were buying (except Gearbox) were at risk of shutting down before that. It was more of a gamble, whether they could release any successful games before the economy tanked.

It's called padding out your portfolio before a sellout >look at all these studios and IP we have >please buy us camelriding man

yes, but that's the thing - the saudis were looking around already. EG tried to buy up all those studios, then jack up the final buying price for everything together and they gave it absolutely no thought that the saudis would just laugh and wait until EG went bankrupt, knowing not even the chinese would want to buy it for that price
so there will be a fire sale of EG having to sell off all assets to the highest buyer, and it will be no where near the billions for the assets themselves.
greedy, smug investors fricked themselves and its funny
If Ben Newman was involved with the team again, it would be far from pozzed. The guy himself could lead western studios back from the shitty characters being designed today, the work he's done puts so many of these studios to shame. Also guys like Alfred from the Rewind team could use a full time job as he actually made most of the characters in the series fully faithful to their original designs.
>Which then got cancelled when Embracer's expected funding injection from the Saudis fell through and they started cutting a bunch of projects.
this was also partially because saints row reboot fricking bombed. you can still watch the embracer's group investors stream and see the horror in their faces during the announcement. it was so bad that the new best scenario was worse than the pervious worse investment scenario
They showed off the Saints Row reboot to their investors? Do you have a link? :*
Weren't they making both the MMO and the single-player RPG at the same time?
Well I'll be, I think you're right. Apparently the MMO and ARPG were separate projects meant to be set in the same world, with Kingdoms of Amulur being the rest of the MMO devs buying another studio (before releasing their first game) and adapting their existing project. Which is just as fricking crazy.
>They showed off the Saints Row reboot to their investors? Do you have a link? :*
no, their showed their new profit projections After the saudi's backed out
Oh I see what you mean. I thought you were saying that part of the reason the Saudi's pulled out was because SR2022 looked like shit, which would have been really funny.
Don't forget that part of the reason why it got funding from Rhode Island is that the founder of the studio was a former professional baseball player.
Gotta feel bad for the guy, he played a bunch of MMO's, tried to make his dream game and lost $50 million dollars.
>Which then got cancelled when Embracer's expected funding injection from the Saudis fell through and they started cutting a bunch of projects.
Also the flop of that Saints Row game too, that had a budget of over $100 mil and that's only development costs not marketing
We also lost a new Deus Ex game because of Embracer Group being stupid
That's far from accurate from what really happened with Free Radical >make game based on war in Iraq >ubisoft says to change the story >also ubisoft inks ps3 exclusive when the game only ran on PC and 360
But even when the game released it made enough money to survive. What killed free radical were the contracts that were canceled post 2008 with the goldeneye remaster and Star Wars Battlefront 3.
We're not even getting into the shit Crytek did with the TimeSplitters brand after buying it out. Guys from Free Radical then called Crytek UK ported the TS games to PS3 and 360 and the Yerli brothers did nothing to actually publish them.
people always think about EA or Activision or maybe 2K when it comes to evil companies. i wish more people knew about the shit Embracer does but most normalgays don't even know they exist
To be fair, the game was very average, but some moron at their publisher blurted out that it would be a "halo killer" (for a very long time every fps was compared to halo) to the gaming press, and that was it, it never had a chance.
My understanding was that he realized he can't manage a large studio so instead of trying to downsize Irrational, he founded Ghost Story instead. Still owned by 2K iirc.
>even though the finished product sold and reviewed well
fricking understatement, this game was the fricking "witcher 3" before witcher 3. Mental launch, mental trailers, sold fricking so well. No idea how 2K has taken this long to fund Bio 3/4
It didn't kill the studio. That's a misconception spread by journos.
My understanding was that he realized he can't manage a large studio so instead of trying to downsize Irrational, he founded Ghost Story instead. Still owned by 2K iirc.
>Instead of trying to downsize Irrational, he founded Ghost Story instead.
That's pretty much what happened, they still operate in the same office but as smaller and more independent studio. Cloud Chamber is the new studio that pretty much replaced old Irrational, and plenty of devs were relocated there.
If Ken Levine wanted to make another Bioshock after Bioshock Infinite; 2K would have given him all the money in the world to do so. But he wanted to make something nobody has ever played before. And 2K (as well as Take Two) was incompetent and did not know what to do with Irrational without Ken; but they couldn't keep 100 people on payroll doing nothing while Ken went into pre-production for a decade figuring out how his next game was even going to work. So they had to shut Irrational down; but they found work for everyone there.
And there isn't a doubt in my mind that the wait will be worth it; and Judas will be soooooo much more and even better than another Bioshock.
The development history behind C&C is pretty cursed >C&C and RA1 come out, do well >EA swoops in to get involved with RA2 >Does well, Westwood want to work on something else >Two projects in development, both get stuck >EA gives the studio a choice: either move to be near our HQ or eat shit >Staff who move get consolidated with another team, work begins on C&C Generals >Staff who stay put form Petroglyph >C&C Generals comes out and does well. Team behind it is then merged with yet another team, becoming EA Los Angeles >This team makes C&C3 and RA3 which do well >After RA3 they get handed a failed mobile game >Told to turn it into C&C4 >They try their best but are given a tight deadline, game inevitably releases as a total piece of shit >Team disbanded >New C&C game announced by a new team... but its another fricking mobile game and exclusive to smartphones. Bombs >C&C Generals 2 gets teased by another team but never actually happens
Then a decade after C&C4 some guy who played C&C as a kid gets the greenlight for a passion project remaster of the original games with Petroglyph. It sells well but the guy moves on to another company and EA haven't said anything about any other remasters or IP revivals.
PS: C&C4 remains delisted on all digital storefronts. It's so shit EA would rather pretend it doesn't exist, unlike every other game in the series which you can still buy to this day.
Well I guess you could argue it was this game too, considering it was the last game they actually got to make. C&C4 basically killed any chance of them not just being the Medal of Honor studio. This game flopping and EA re-orientating towards having 1 game per genre is what totally killed them.
>This team makes C&C3 and RA3 which do well
1. They were making Battle For Middle-Earth games after Generals
2. C&C3 was rushed out in 8 months, and RA3 was rushed out in 14 months
3. C&C3 did well... at first due to nostalgia, Kane's Wrath sold like shit, and RA3 sold ultra shit, to the point they didn't even print discs for its expansion >They try their best
1. No they didn't, they focus tested the game with DOTAgays and Dawn of War2queers, who said base building is bad
2. They did this because KW&RA3 were huge failures and wanted to "course correct" >Team disbanded
1. Team was renamed to Bioware Victory
2. They were making a Generals 2 which was turned into just "Command & Conquer" and was an online game
3. They got as far as having a closed alpha
4. It was shit and it was cancelled, studio is kill
Series was dead before 4 came out. It was just the final nail in the coffin.
Well I guess you could argue it was this game too, considering it was the last game they actually got to make. C&C4 basically killed any chance of them not just being the Medal of Honor studio. This game flopping and EA re-orientating towards having 1 game per genre is what totally killed them.
It wasn't made by the same people.
EA LA was basically 2 studios under one name. The part that was Dreamworks Interactive was the one that made MoH games, while the RTS games were the Westwood remnants.
The studios were finally split into two, one being Danger Close Games(MoH team) and the other Bioware Victory/Victory Games(C&C&BFME) before both died a year later.
Yeah the LOTR: BfME games were great and it's a shame they're basically never ever going to be available on Steam. Always thought RA3 did decently but can't find much in the way of sales data as all the articles from the era have been nuked, just some forum threads mentioning that it dropped out of the top 10 within a month of release.
Weird that they fired a bunch of EA LA people and then rehired them months later for Victory Games. I assumed it was a new team. I also forgot about that C&C browser only game which apparently staggered on for years.
>to the point they didn't even print discs for its expansion
and made it a single player only release. And it was the credit crunch so EA was like, yeah frick it we're gonna tell them to get uprising in a releasable state, and then kill them.
Don't forget that C&C3 cursed Petroglyph because when Sega heard its plot was "humans versus aliens" they forced Petroglyph to cut the human resistance faction from Universe at War:Earth Assault.
The game still probably wouldn't have survived being stuck on GFWL at its worst iteration but the lack of a good entry faction probably killed it for good.
>>>C&C and RA1 come out, do well >C&C TS takes longer and longer, they need EA's money to complete it >EA tells them to just get something done, they cut features like day/night cycle, but actually get the game out >This team makes C&C3 and RA3 which do well
C&C3 was hugely hyped and floated entirely on the power of nostalgia, turns out all the nostalgia features they put back into C&C dont hold up well at all. Shit like base defences popping up in your face or mining your entire tiberium field in 3 minutes is just garbage.
C&C4 was a reconfiguration of a korean F2P game that was canceled. But at this point westwood already was marked for death.
>but its another fricking mobile game and exclusive to smartphones. Bombs
C&C rivals actually does well enough. Fans hate it but it has a low cost to develop.
this was probably the easiest game to buy a sub with in game cash. Just buy a few Charge Ciscos and you were set
Then again it didn’t justify a sub fee with how little content was in it
It’s kind of funny seeing APB type missions pop up in more online games like war zone and Fortnite now
>Try to make an MMO >Run out of money >Turn it into a mediocre single player RPG >It doesn't do very well >End up not only going bust but also leave some state in New England holding the bag for tens of millions of dollars
Kinda funny in hindsight, even though I was dumb enough to actually buy this game on release
>former baseball player leads the company >goes bankrupt >has to sell all his merchandise because of it >creative director was the guy who went on to irreparably damage the WoW brand
I haven't watched the documentary, but from what anons said about it, it seems that the one time Tim Schafer finally decides to spare the world from his abysmal management skills, he managed to hand the reins over to someone even worse.
Psychonauts 2 was Double Fine's best-selling game yet, tho that's not saying much and Double Fine is on life support regardless because the development was just that much of a shitshow.
I still find it crazy that what was supposed to be their break-through title ended up being their last because it ended up leaking that McNamarra has ginormous temper issues and treats his employees like literal slaves, yet the game ended up being pretty good. It's just not something you hear happening everyday.
i honestly do not give a single shit about devs doing "crunch" i dont know why people get so upset about it as if its the only industry that does it, they are still getting paid at the end of the day
>ISA glowie sim where you can also play as Little Bald Riding Hood
Stupid dutch gayets should've killed off that brainlet Rico in the first game. Hahka was better than him by country mile.
They really wrote themselves into a corner. 1 is an invasion fleet so another conflict makes sense. 2 is the planetary forces, okay. 3 there's just a new secret army that was doing nothing, and then the entire planet and said military gets nuked yet they STILL have equal military might for it to be a problem in Shadows fall.
Makes no god damn sense. They wrote the protagonist morally grey and then mae them way to successful
I only played KZ2 and I fricking hated Rico. You spend the whole game wondering why the frick am I even supposed to dislike the Helghast other than that they're BLACK and RED
it isn't a glowie sim though, it's just bland as frick tech "look at out pretty grafix" demo with nothing going for it so the beyond fricking moronic plot stands out even more
this game is so fricking shit i could barely get rid of it, i miss 2
>shitpost on forums all day how youre a game director while the others are just angry virgins >sue epic for the unreal engine you stole >flop and kill your studio
It's free on xbox store. I actually liked it once I figured out the controls. Marrying an 80s era vietnam movie with a techno-norse setting is fricking kino. >grizzled old vet character charges forward, shouting that he's gonna die for Odin
Reminder that "Halo Killer" is an ENTIRELY fan fabricated idea that was never once even remotely pushed by the dev or the publisher. You will not find a single instance of this is you actually research it yourself.
Haze is the worst example of shooters from that era. brown n' bloom tactical shit, melodramatic story, plays just like halo but not really. truly the dark age for shootan.

>halo reach turned out to be the Halo killer
I never understood the appeal. IT was just halo with cod element. >special powers load outs >animated executions >more detailed character customization
This game ruined the series because the next two games were trying to just be call of duty like this one was. They added fricking sprint and perks. Not halo.
for some reason it gets more comments that the gameplay is good than people who play it. maybe it's safe to say the gameplay isnt good? before someone says aktshually it's because its online only thats why the game has no players, the game plays like red redemption 2 did where you press your controls and wait for several micro second delays for your character and gun to do get into position it feels wretched
What is killing iD is their leadership and business practices more than the games they put out. They lost a lot of good will over the Mick Gordon and soundtrack drama. Not to mention that the allegations of mismanagement by Gordon checks out when you look at the invasion mechanic and how they never got that off the ground, probably because they can’t keep a competent schedule to save their careers.
They put way more effort into advertising this piece of crap than actually making the game fun like the first one. Huge missed opportunity, could have been a really great game.
The trouble with Haze was that they didn't start buzzword marketing until other people decided what the buzzwords were. Everyone was comparing it to Halo, saying it was like Halo without the aliens.
But if you ever played the game, it's very obvious that the game was more influenced by the trends set up by games like Half-Life 2. If anything, Resistance was closer to Halo that Haze was. Even though the campaign mode was a bore, it had some neat ideas and the gameplay was 8/10 at the time in terms of sandbox play. You could do big bot/online matches and that felt a little closer to Timesplitters FP, but in the new gen of games.
Haze didn't actually kill Free Radical, it was EA and Lucas Arts cutting off Timesplitters 4 and Battlefront 3 due to shifting management having different priorities. If Haze was good, they still would've died.
>makes one of the best console TPS games ever >dies
Shame, I feel like BF3 could've fixed a lot of bullshit 2 had. It was an admirable and impressive effort. It really felt like black magic it ran so well on PS2.
That's wrong, the deals that Free Radical made with Activision for a Goldeneye remaster and LucasArts for Star Wars Battlefront 3 fell through. The latter really killed them considering how much time and effort they put into that, no thanks to Darrel Rodriguez and the lawyers set to kill all third party titles LucasArts contracted out.
more like willing
imagine sitting on potentially THE coop fps of the decade and turning it into f2p fake mmo slop that only survives on grifting morons with terminal addiction
even more they kicked out TWO people that did the only good thing still remaining in the game
>yeah bro let’s just have our c team make Sonic’s big jump to 3D while sonic team just fricks around with the funny jester games
It’s like they actively wanted this to fail
DE was a step away from disaster without warframe finally taking off. They even attribute total biscuits old video to what kept them afloat to gain popularity.
bought this game as a kid and when I installed it on the PC i realized it's multiplayer and needed Xlive service. back then my parents were scared of internet because of porn and illegal stuff so I couldn't play this game
I liked the lego guns, but I wish they handled it like the Gravity Gun in Half Life. You'd have one wacky sci fi gun right next to your pistol, shotgun and rocket launcher.
the only problem with 3 is that moron suits insisted on it being a mainline installment
if they didn't force in isaac and the game was just a spinoff coop zombie shooter about the origins of the markers with carver and co being the main cast it won't get even half the flak it got
>remake a game that can already be played on the system via backwards compatibility >release it only on the dying handheld, and not the hot new nintendo console that's been going strong for almost two years at that point in time >go bankrupt
What did AlphaDream (and Arzest, apparently) mean by this?
I mean we are experiencing a Mario RPG renaissance, with the Mario RPG and Paper Mario TTYD remakes. Who's to say we won't get a Mario & Luigi remake? Another Code got remade and Cing's been bankrupt.
I think this is the game that convinced Nintendo that the 3DS wasn't worth supporting anymore. You know a system is dead when not even Mario sells on it.
Didn't this release around the time those BL story games were releasing as well? Didn't help that those story games were complete dog shit and shat on the lore
I'm so utterly confused.
the FFXV team made Forspoken under the idea of "Let's pander to Americans" and made a game with awful writing not to mention bad gameplay because it's the FFXV team
ehh. I remember they promised that it would be 6-8 weeks between episodes. The second episode took 13 weeks to come out, the third episode took slightly less, and by the time they released the last episode they were on that timetable but it was too little too late. It was also the same time they were making the Game of Thrones TellTale game at the height of GoT popularity, insisted that they could do both games at once, and immediately prioritized GoT over TfTBL.
>I'm not exactly sure why
Exaggerated aussie accents were annoying with too much talking
Writing was BL2 style but even more exaggerated and didn't have Dameon Clarke to carry it
Could not farm bosses because they never respawned meaning you had to do a new run if you wanted to fight a certain boss again
No raid content, the sentinel and iwajira were the only bosses you could fight
Nerfed and completely killed certain builds players were using early on which further tanked interest like the melee Athena build
Took too long for DLCs to release, pre sequel only started to make somewhat of a comeback by claptrap dlc but by then it was killed off
Level design was hit or miss with the jetpacks and excessive verticality
Lasers were fun, cryo was fun, Luneshines were good and better implemented than Anoitments, and Pre-sequel has the best VH gameplay designs in the series and it's a shame they can't be ported to BL2 or something
>and it's a shame they can't be ported to BL2 or something
with how bl2 modding is now it wouldn't surprise me if somebody back ports them soon
we got a fully custom torgue vault hunter mod a while ago so it isn't impossible
>fully custom torgue vault hunter mod
sick
had no idea BL2 modding developed so much, now I really am looking forward to seeing what more we're getting
>it wasn't the worst BL game ever made.
if you ignore the new Tales it still is the worst borderlands game. Yes, even wonderlands is not this bad, with its horrid performance and amounts of cringe surpassing the finest specimens from previous games.
Shitsequel is a horrid slop with uninteresting characters, lame mechanics, zero notable things and neverending jack jerkoff. In wonderlands it's at least possible to have fun if you mute the cringe and just play the game.
every time I'm reminded of Brink, I just remember the yahtzee video stating the incredibly obvious that it was a clone of TF2 destined to fail take a shot
It didn't really kill the studio. That said, Brink makes me sad as frick because I was totally into that Waterworld apocalyptic setting the game was going with.
never heard of it, qrd?
fake gameplay trailer and a billion issues, i forgot the details but i remember that there was some kind of error where the basic initial weapon was killing enemies faster than endgame weapons
Unreal that bioware is still alive after that monumental flop. They are definitely one flop away from shutting down
inquisition had such obvious sequel bait for an ending and was a success which kept them on life support (nevermind dreadwolf has been in such dev hell almost no one is braced for anything but a disaster)
LE gave them enough of a boost to plan for a revival of ME but honestly if dreadwolf is an outright flop I think it kills the studio
having a soft spot for lootershooters, i carry a torch for this game. yes, virtually everything about it was/is terrible, but fighting and flying in the javelins felt fantastic and the map was fun to explore. there was a fun game in there somewhere, but they fumbled literally every aspect that wasn't moment to moment action gameplay. side story -
>lived in edmonton
>worked with a guy whose son played hockey with a bioware employee's son
>never got the bioware dude's name but i think he was management
>coworker is a destinydad but otherwise doesn't game
>bioware guy tells him anthem is going to be the destiny killer
>constantly hypes him up for it at kid's practices/games
>anthem comes out
>coworker plays it for a week, hates it
>tells bioware guy at hockey that the game sucks
>bioware guy is apologetic
>tells him to hang in there, they're working on it etc
>hockey season ends before the game ever gets good
>coworker seethes about anthem for months
kek
Soon
I wish, but morons are hyped for TES VI so MS will keep them alive.
>starfield was le worst game ever
>sold pretty well
>wasn't that bad a game
I know it's just really easy to hate bethesda, but why not take a step back and consider that for a AAA dev they have more successes than most.
Yeah, but their peak was over a decade ago, depending on your level acceptance for their formula getting simplified over and over and over again.
probably more than a decade ago now, I just think most criticism of Bethesda (especially online) isn't super productive, I imagine it's hard to take any of the good feedback when the vast majority of the feedback is not very well thought out.
May I remind you that Square Enix hasn’t come out with a good game in a long time and they’re still on going. And starfield wasn't as bad as SE’s worst bombs.
No, even when TES6 bombs it wont affect them
Remember anon, Copies of Skyrim still sell because every year some Kid gets his first PC.
Why does this reptile have breasts? Makes no sense
Because its hot
Why wait that long? People are already forgiving fallout 76 and that shit had an even worse launch than cyberpunk what with multiple collectors edition scams on top of being an unplayable mess on launch.
I'm telling you, in ~5 years we'll see "Starfield is good now" posts
And why not? This has already happened with Halo Infinite. That was a shit show for the first few years and now its got a fanbase. Live service culture will make sure that starfield opinions will shift later after all the updates.
Sauce?
It will get the snoy injection and Bethesda with survive until TES6
No way, they got Fallout and TES as ace cards.
It's just a matter of time before the internet starts pretending that Haze was a hidden gem and underrated masterpiece.
We've reached a point where a game being garbage and people shitting on said game for being garbage became "problematic".
Dude, there are way too many mid console shooters from that time for that to happen.
That's been going on for ages. Look at the Starship Troopers movie. Shit gets reevaluated by people who got it for free as ten year olds telling the adults who paid for it their opinion doesn't matter.
it has unbelievable CGI for a late 90s movie. makes a huge budget contemporary pic like Titanic look shitty in many places.
Gaming for me is a religion and Haze is the shit!
Music is like a religion and Haze IS THE SHIT
I pirated it when it first came out, I was in highschool, the helmets shattering was really cool at the time, still kind of is
rest of the game was pretty gay
People only do this with scrimblo bimblo nintendo coded shit, where they pretend some knockoff platformer or jrpg they played as a kid is good. Nobody will ever give a frick about haze
those people need to realize that just because they and a couple of other people liked the game doesnt make it a hidden gem
one of the most interesting shit games ever made
They eventually patched out the six axis controls and it was genuinely fricking good. Fricking shame
QRD on Lair? I got it like a decade ago with a bunch of other used PS3 games but never touched it, what's so bad about it?
is this that only ps3 game that can be streamed on a psp?
One of the 30 PS3 games, yes
weird, chaos child got a ps3 release and they made it streamable to psp
Steins gate 0 too but both are Japan exclusives
sony has consistently shat out the strangest and least used features of any company I've ever seen. Who used any of these options anyways? Streaming peggle from your PSP to the PS3? Makes no sense.
The issue was that they all had input delay.
It was nice that you could play every PS1 game with it though.
still baffling 20 years later. these guys made all the rogue squadron games for fricks sake.
Sony mandated they use the six-axis controls, which meant flying felt like shit. The game's playable and fun even with normal controls but the damage was already done.
The game was also boring as frick for a dragon flight game anyways.
I got to a mission in this game that had a time limit and you need to hit these five Black folk.
Problem is, there is an infinite number of smol Black folk, everywhere, always taking your lock on.
I gave up.
Anyone know what part this is or how to get past it?
>use another franchise's name in your advertising campaign
>give it free advertising
they deserved it
Worked for the current fotm to fair
its still funny
YEAH THAT'S A THING I DO NOW
damn, beat me to it
Anon, Square has released dozens of bad and mediocre games over the past 30 years, it doesn't take a conspiracy theory to rationalize one more
>Going full woke with an extremely expemsive game(100+million$)
I still can't fathom how this even happened;
>Isekai Genre
>mostly read by whites and asians
>most protagonists of the isekai genre are plain as can possibly be for the sole purpose of self inserting with names that are usually the equivalent of "John Smith" for japan
>instead of making this game have a character creator, they make it about a homeless criminal black woman, the least liked female type for white and asian men
>they then make it as quippy as possible when those same fricking people who like this genre fricking hate that bullshit
>they then also make it very "woke"
I ve played , I love it, it isnt woke in the sense
>MEN SUCKZ
But literally ONLY WOMEN rule and only women have powers they are the cool people.
it's woke-coded chud, unmistakably too, as both defenders and detractors agree on that
Okay, explain without buzzwords why it's woke.
>tourist melty over the w-word
chud, go back
But it's so obvious, anon
>cast Ella Bazinga
>realize your face scanners fricked up and she becomes an unholy abomination when her face moves
>can't sell game based on the hotness of the lead
>go full woke to cut losses
100% confirmed
I wasn't even slightly interested in this before they even started showing trailers simply because it was on SE's dogshit luminous engine.
I'M ONLY HUMAN AFTER ALL
BioWare still exists and is making two more shitty games that will be out in a year or two. When those games fail then they will get the axe.
Dragon Age will be out then, but the next Mass Effect isn't coming until 2028
Bioware Edmonton made Anthem and they are still around, it's the main studio
Bioware Montreal made Andromeda and it was shut down
>2008
I’ve wasted my life.
Ironic.
>dude wouldn’t it be funny if the main mechanic of the game just refused to do what you wanted half the time
literally just worked in my game, what did you morons even do for the dog to not work
the actual issue this game has is that a turbo niche product got super ambitious and in the end released on a completely different console while still looking and running like ass
at least it did release unlike Wild
Does this one count? The studio was already about to close before this game was even half completed, then Sony kept the studio on financial life support just so that they would finish this game and then close down.
What was the point? They made ICO and shadow of the collosus, why did they bank everything ok this one shit idea? Didn't they have other ideas to work with?
Still waiting for a PC port, so the modders can fix the fricking AI.
Skill issue. The AI works fine.
Wasn't the final product primarily or even solely developed by Ueda's own studio?
The catastrophic failures that were this game and Lawbreakers are things Cliff shall never live down.
>leaves epic right before Fortnite to make this
is there anyone more pathetic than cliffyB?
i wonder what timmy thinks of that little gay?
In fairness to Mr. KEK HATE literally nobody expected anything from Fortnite. It was some directionless PvE project Epic was putting less resources into than shit like Paragon and Chair's Infinity Blade Dungeons. The BR mode was a last ditch experiment by the team of like three or four guys who were still on it to make it do something and it by a stroke of luck became the biggest game in the world.
KWAB
I actually though radical heights had potential, it was very much EXTREME early access though
never forget
Why didnt he try to appeal to the hebe crowd?
>some goon a couple years ago decides to dig this post up to show the admins
>cliffyb hasn't even posted on the something awful forums in over a decade and a half at that point
>admins permaban cliffyb for posting that anyway
>mfw
Tells you all you need to know about the current state of that board
Lawbreakers was the deepest and most skillful arena FPS ever made; it was Cliffy B at the absolute top of his game.
Its failure is only proof that nobody cares about are FPS games anymore. And you Black folk mocking it only means none of you care about arena FPS games either.
FRICK YOU BOIY THE GAIME!!
I don't remember this
What's the story?
Timesplitters devs made a shit PS3 exclusive FPS that was meant to compete with Halo. It flopped and they got shutdown. As a bonus Embracer bought the rights to Timesplitters and had a revival game in the works. Which then got cancelled when Embracer's expected funding injection from the Saudis fell through and they started cutting a bunch of projects.
This is why you need a PR team and a focus group
This is why, when recruiting staff to work on your game, you have to ask "Do you play video games?"
saints row 4 shouldve killed the studio.
that game fricking sucked it wasnt even good enough to be a dlc for 3.
My schizo ass thought this game's flop was the reason the Saudis pulled out from the deal.
Has a game with a black female in the trailer and on the covers of games ever sold well?
still can't believe this is how Saints Row of all things died
I enjoyed playing 3 Co Op with my brother.
Was so let down when I saw the trailer for this.
>Timesplitters
>Pozzed
Nah wasn't going to happen, assets screens literally got posted online
I'm mad, frick Embracer Group.
It was more of a gamble, whether they could release any successful games before the economy tanked.
>no idea why they banked their entire plan on getting $2bn from Saudis
It's called padding out your portfolio before a sellout
>look at all these studios and IP we have
>please buy us camelriding man
yes, but that's the thing - the saudis were looking around already. EG tried to buy up all those studios, then jack up the final buying price for everything together and they gave it absolutely no thought that the saudis would just laugh and wait until EG went bankrupt, knowing not even the chinese would want to buy it for that price
so there will be a fire sale of EG having to sell off all assets to the highest buyer, and it will be no where near the billions for the assets themselves.
greedy, smug investors fricked themselves and its funny
>neck and foot restraints
>not pozzed
Pedo.
If Ben Newman was involved with the team again, it would be far from pozzed. The guy himself could lead western studios back from the shitty characters being designed today, the work he's done puts so many of these studios to shame. Also guys like Alfred from the Rewind team could use a full time job as he actually made most of the characters in the series fully faithful to their original designs.
future perfect was fricking boring
no
>Which then got cancelled when Embracer's expected funding injection from the Saudis fell through and they started cutting a bunch of projects.
this was also partially because saints row reboot fricking bombed. you can still watch the embracer's group investors stream and see the horror in their faces during the announcement. it was so bad that the new best scenario was worse than the pervious worse investment scenario
They showed off the Saints Row reboot to their investors? Do you have a link? :*
That's far from accurate from what really happened with Free Radical
>make game based on war in Iraq
>ubisoft says to change the story
>also ubisoft inks ps3 exclusive when the game only ran on PC and 360
But even when the game released it made enough money to survive.
To be fair, the game was very average, but some moron at their publisher blurted out that it would be a "halo killer" (for a very long time every fps was compared to halo) to the gaming press, and that was it, it never had a chance.
buggy diversity slop put this once good studio out of misery
stronkwymyn 2 and deathpoop did that, redfail was just the convulsions of a galvanized corpse
Arkane Austin didn't make either of those games moron
I want to see Sakura in her underwear!
and? anything with arkane in the name makes dog shit now, moronic tranimeposter, arkane anything died with Prey and won't be coming back
>The development was such a clusterfrick that 2K killed the studio even though the finished product sold and reviewed well
That's gotta sting
They probably knew that it was dead anyway with Ken Levine.
the game was fun but the muh klan muh racism muh nignog uprising writing was only memorable for being obnoxious
the game was only memorable for elizabeth being cute and the story completely shitting itself at the end with the multiverse garbadge
>the game was fun
Gonna stop you right there chief
>Irrational became just the Bioshock studio.
>Freedom Force:The Bronze Age fricking never.
Still hurts to this day.
>Ken Levine closed Irrational down because he's tired of Bioshock
>Proceed to make notBioshock as his next game
My understanding was that he realized he can't manage a large studio so instead of trying to downsize Irrational, he founded Ghost Story instead. Still owned by 2K iirc.
>even though the finished product sold and reviewed well
fricking understatement, this game was the fricking "witcher 3" before witcher 3. Mental launch, mental trailers, sold fricking so well. No idea how 2K has taken this long to fund Bio 3/4
Except Witcher 3 was actually a good game. Infinite was fricking terrible. Massively overhyped and overrated.
It didn't kill the studio. That's a misconception spread by journos.
Except Infinite's development took just as long as the original Bioshock, which over the span of 6-7 years was rebuilt and rewritten a bunch of times.
The development history behind C&C is pretty cursed
>C&C and RA1 come out, do well
>EA swoops in to get involved with RA2
>Does well, Westwood want to work on something else
>Two projects in development, both get stuck
>EA gives the studio a choice: either move to be near our HQ or eat shit
>Staff who move get consolidated with another team, work begins on C&C Generals
>Staff who stay put form Petroglyph
>C&C Generals comes out and does well. Team behind it is then merged with yet another team, becoming EA Los Angeles
>This team makes C&C3 and RA3 which do well
>After RA3 they get handed a failed mobile game
>Told to turn it into C&C4
>They try their best but are given a tight deadline, game inevitably releases as a total piece of shit
>Team disbanded
>New C&C game announced by a new team... but its another fricking mobile game and exclusive to smartphones. Bombs
>C&C Generals 2 gets teased by another team but never actually happens
I always made jokes about this games title back in the day but never played it.
Kinda miss those pre-pozzed COD campaigns. Might have to get it next time I see a 7th gen bargain bin.
This was an extremely fun game in MP, or at least I remember it that way
>This team makes C&C3 and RA3 which do well
1. They were making Battle For Middle-Earth games after Generals
2. C&C3 was rushed out in 8 months, and RA3 was rushed out in 14 months
3. C&C3 did well... at first due to nostalgia, Kane's Wrath sold like shit, and RA3 sold ultra shit, to the point they didn't even print discs for its expansion
>They try their best
1. No they didn't, they focus tested the game with DOTAgays and Dawn of War2queers, who said base building is bad
2. They did this because KW&RA3 were huge failures and wanted to "course correct"
>Team disbanded
>>>C&C and RA1 come out, do well
>C&C TS takes longer and longer, they need EA's money to complete it
>EA tells them to just get something done, they cut features like day/night cycle, but actually get the game out
>This team makes C&C3 and RA3 which do well
C&C3 was hugely hyped and floated entirely on the power of nostalgia, turns out all the nostalgia features they put back into C&C dont hold up well at all.
It wasn't even that bad, but going from Crackdown to an MMO put too much strain on the studio.
doesn't help that they blew their entire initial capital on the character creator alone. hilariously mismanaged company.
One of best character creator I've ever used in an MMO. If I ever get off my ass and make a game I'm using this and Illusion's works as inspiration.
this was probably the easiest game to buy a sub with in game cash. Just buy a few Charge Ciscos and you were set
Then again it didn’t justify a sub fee with how little content was in it
It’s kind of funny seeing APB type missions pop up in more online games like war zone and Fortnite now
>Try to make an MMO
>Run out of money
>Turn it into a mediocre single player RPG
>It doesn't do very well
>End up not only going bust but also leave some state in New England holding the bag for tens of millions of dollars
Kinda funny in hindsight, even though I was dumb enough to actually buy this game on release
Weren't they making both the MMO and the single-player RPG at the same time?
Don't forget that part of the reason why it got funding from Rhode Island is that the founder of the studio was a former professional baseball player.
>it got funding from Rhode Island is that the founder of the studio was a former professional baseball player
What the frick is wrong with amerikeks
>former baseball player leads the company
>goes bankrupt
>has to sell all his merchandise because of it
>creative director was the guy who went on to irreparably damage the WoW brand
I haven't watched the documentary, but from what anons said about it, it seems that the one time Tim Schafer finally decides to spare the world from his abysmal management skills, he managed to hand the reins over to someone even worse.
was this game a flop or something?
Psychonauts 2 was Double Fine's best-selling game yet, tho that's not saying much and Double Fine is on life support regardless because the development was just that much of a shitshow.
They're now a Microsoft-owned studio.
Which may be even worse, depending on your point of view
Double fine had to split a game they got 2.2 million to make. Tim can't manage production for shit and never could
kotick was unironically right about him
Got killed twice.
And the second time it was due to a fricking demo
Huh? Phantom Fury is not happening?
It is. Guy is a moron.
The game did fine, but all the allegations of crunch and shit management unironically killed the studio
I liked this game to be honest, at the time the GRPHX were pretty impressive (at least for me)
I still find it crazy that what was supposed to be their break-through title ended up being their last because it ended up leaking that McNamarra has ginormous temper issues and treats his employees like literal slaves, yet the game ended up being pretty good. It's just not something you hear happening everyday.
>the game did fine
[X] DOUBT
erm..rockstar is still around tho sadly
i honestly do not give a single shit about devs doing "crunch" i dont know why people get so upset about it as if its the only industry that does it, they are still getting paid at the end of the day
>ISA glowie sim where you can also play as Little Bald Riding Hood
Stupid dutch gayets should've killed off that brainlet Rico in the first game. Hahka was better than him by country mile.
Killzone 3 fricked up everything good about Killzone 2 so frick 'em.
H*g hands typed this post
Total ISA Death
Such a good game.
But Gurilla Games is more profitable than ever now.
>more profitable than ever
>gave their game away for free
>suddenly claims to have sold tens of millions of copies
it isn't a glowie sim though, it's just bland as frick tech "look at out pretty grafix" demo with nothing going for it so the beyond fricking moronic plot stands out even more
this game is so fricking shit i could barely get rid of it, i miss 2
They were shit without Nintendo to tard wrangle them. Many such cases.
Not only the game, but the lawsuit against Epic.
Silicon Knights had good ideas but shit leaders with huge ego problems. Eternal Darkness was good btw
>Eternal Darkness was overrated af btw
ftfy
It invented left thumb move, right thumb look. It took Halo to popularize that but ED was first.
it invented the oooohh so spoookkkeeeyyhh game for casuals.
good old toothman
>shitpost on forums all day how youre a game director while the others are just angry virgins
>sue epic for the unreal engine you stole
>flop and kill your studio
Singularity is from that era too, can't really tell em apart, it's all a blur of sloppy shooters.
>2008
>truly the dark age for shootan
are you serious, mang?
crysis
cod4
cod world at war
halo 3
half life ep 1 and 2
the darkness
team fortess 2
enemy territory quake wars
stalker
left 4 dead 1 and 2
band of brothers hell's highway
battlefield bad company 1 and 2
resistance
killzone 2 and 3
>band of brothers hell's highway
brothers in arms* hell's highway
>Wait did episodes 1 and 2 really come out the same year
Where's fricking episode 3 then
Who are you quoting?
It was OK/10
>we want the payday2 audience
IM HORNY!
I never played any Dungeon Keeper games but that rap was catchy as frick
What's going on in here?
was it that bad?
yes
I spit on them
>Halo turned out to be the Halo killer
>halo reach turned out to be the Halo killer
I never understood the appeal. IT was just halo with cod element.
>special powers load outs
>animated executions
>more detailed character customization
This game ruined the series because the next two games were trying to just be call of duty like this one was. They added fricking sprint and perks. Not halo.
>payday 3
I don't think I gotta say more.
for some reason it gets more comments that the gameplay is good than people who play it. maybe it's safe to say the gameplay isnt good? before someone says aktshually it's because its online only thats why the game has no players, the game plays like red redemption 2 did where you press your controls and wait for several micro second delays for your character and gun to do get into position it feels wretched
What is killing iD is their leadership and business practices more than the games they put out. They lost a lot of good will over the Mick Gordon and soundtrack drama. Not to mention that the allegations of mismanagement by Gordon checks out when you look at the invasion mechanic and how they never got that off the ground, probably because they can’t keep a competent schedule to save their careers.
no mercenaries 3 never ever.
>tfw I played this start to finish on the ps3
average/10. Could've been a lot worse but it sure as frick wasn't any good.
Oh no you didnt!
Only memorable thing about this game. I wish more games had a marketing push of "You tried to frick me over?! Now I'm blowing up EVERYTHING, fricker!"
Sony still uses the assets from this game. It wasn't a complete loss.
And yet it's good.
Until it has you repeat the whole game.
I fricking loved this game. What's the issue?
weird how almost all of these are western studios
Jap studios have more of a tendency to just drop to five guys and subcontract rather than shutter completely.
Legit good game. Just came out at the wrong time.
Is this the first game barring porn VNs that let you marry and impregnate the villain?
she's more of an antagonist rather than a true villain though
>impregnate the villain
>villain
larp perpetuated by people who never played the game and only know it because of shitposting and that greentext
I mean it's not wrong but it's also a major spoiler that she isn't the main villain
I have finished the game I know she isn't the villain moron. Buuuuut.....
the company was already on a big decline before that one, nothing could save it
sux because it was such a good game
Haze didn't actually kill Free Radical, it was EA and Lucas Arts cutting off Timesplitters 4 and Battlefront 3 due to shifting management having different priorities. If Haze was good, they still would've died.
>makes one of the best console TPS games ever
>dies
Shame, I feel like BF3 could've fixed a lot of bullshit 2 had. It was an admirable and impressive effort. It really felt like black magic it ran so well on PS2.
No, they made a couple more games on the ps3 and 360 that killed them
>Make a game so good that your parent company purposely cripples you then sells you off
Still unfrickingreal, what happened to Pandemic
That's wrong, the deals that Free Radical made with Activision for a Goldeneye remaster and LucasArts for Star Wars Battlefront 3 fell through. The latter really killed them considering how much time and effort they put into that, no thanks to Darrel Rodriguez and the lawyers set to kill all third party titles LucasArts contracted out.
MOM'S GONNA FREAK
F
wrong picture
dagnabbit wrong picture again
>every halo since was shit
I guess it was a Halo killer
You should give that credit to Bungie. As we can clearly see, they are fully capable of fricking up IP’s all by themselves.
more like willing
imagine sitting on potentially THE coop fps of the decade and turning it into f2p fake mmo slop that only survives on grifting morons with terminal addiction
even more they kicked out TWO people that did the only good thing still remaining in the game
This isn't a thread to just post random game you don't like, anon
It's for objective studio-killers like Forspoken and saint's row
it drove all of the lead devs to quit and the entire studio had to be reorganized. Not because of sales but because of the shitshow behind the scene
and what was the shitshow behind the scenes?
rip ion storm
I remember this being shilled to no end but straight up ignored
>only on xbox
the ultimate sega buckbreaking
it released on the DC in japan
why'd they do it
This game is genuinely fascinating, it's like it was fricking cursed
>yeah bro let’s just have our c team make Sonic’s big jump to 3D while sonic team just fricks around with the funny jester games
It’s like they actively wanted this to fail
ayo better back the frickk m8 that game was fun as hell
The frick are you smoking? It was an incredibly shitty Dead Rising game.
>Frank is back
>kills Capcom Vancouver
I don't miss the Crapcom years
Any games that saved their studio?
Squaresoft and Final Fantasy.
saved the franchise in the west
Putting it on PC fricking helped. Dumbfrick nips took goddamn forever to leave Sony consoles
DE was a step away from disaster without warframe finally taking off. They even attribute total biscuits old video to what kept them afloat to gain popularity.
But hey, at least the private server is kind of official now and gets updates
bought this game as a kid and when I installed it on the PC i realized it's multiplayer and needed Xlive service. back then my parents were scared of internet because of porn and illegal stuff so I couldn't play this game
It wasn't even a terrible game despite the weak story. Somewhat mediocre but still had fun coop.
I liked the lego guns, but I wish they handled it like the Gravity Gun in Half Life. You'd have one wacky sci fi gun right next to your pistol, shotgun and rocket launcher.
the only problem with 3 is that moron suits insisted on it being a mainline installment
if they didn't force in isaac and the game was just a spinoff coop zombie shooter about the origins of the markers with carver and co being the main cast it won't get even half the flak it got
not only ended the studio ended the publisher to
>remake a game that can already be played on the system via backwards compatibility
>release it only on the dying handheld, and not the hot new nintendo console that's been going strong for almost two years at that point in time
>go bankrupt
What did AlphaDream (and Arzest, apparently) mean by this?
Holy FRICK don't remind me
The chances of rhat series getting the love it deserves are almost nil
I mean we are experiencing a Mario RPG renaissance, with the Mario RPG and Paper Mario TTYD remakes. Who's to say we won't get a Mario & Luigi remake? Another Code got remade and Cing's been bankrupt.
you forgot
>the game is worse than the original, with a downgraded art style
>all sprites got mandate'd into genericness as well
I think this is the game that convinced Nintendo that the 3DS wasn't worth supporting anymore. You know a system is dead when not even Mario sells on it.
You know it's coming
Is the game selling badly though? I know its getting a lot of hate online, but normalgays love capeslop a lot.
Even normalgays got tired of capeshit, that's why marvel avengers and gotg game flopped
Selling worse than Gotham Knights b.
It would be a mercy killing.
Studio died years ago when founders and old guard left.
This killed 2k Australia although I'm not exactly sure why because it wasn't the worst BL game ever made.
Didn't this release around the time those BL story games were releasing as well? Didn't help that those story games were complete dog shit and shat on the lore
But the first Tales from the Borderlands game was extremely good???
>story heavy Borderlands game
>good
nice try
the FFXV team made Forspoken under the idea of "Let's pander to Americans" and made a game with awful writing not to mention bad gameplay because it's the FFXV team
>the FFXV team made Forspoken under the idea of "Let's pander to Americans"
Not the first time either, see Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and Secret of Evermore
>Not the first time either, see Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and Secret of Evermore
and yet those games are good. Probably because they were on the SNES and not by a shit dev team
Yet Tales is still fondly remembered while GoT is hardly even mentioned.
Most people I know were pretty tired of BL by the time this came out. But 3 was successful I think so I don't know.
Lasers were fun, cryo was fun, Luneshines were good and better implemented than Anoitments, and Pre-sequel has the best VH gameplay designs in the series and it's a shame they can't be ported to BL2 or something
didn't have enough Dameon Clarke to carry it*
>and it's a shame they can't be ported to BL2 or something
with how bl2 modding is now it wouldn't surprise me if somebody back ports them soon
we got a fully custom torgue vault hunter mod a while ago so it isn't impossible
>fully custom torgue vault hunter mod
sick
had no idea BL2 modding developed so much, now I really am looking forward to seeing what more we're getting
>it wasn't the worst BL game ever made.
if you ignore the new Tales it still is the worst borderlands game. Yes, even wonderlands is not this bad, with its horrid performance and amounts of cringe surpassing the finest specimens from previous games.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh if it wasn't for the levels in TPS I'd definitely play it over wonderlands
Shitsequel is a horrid slop with uninteresting characters, lame mechanics, zero notable things and neverending jack jerkoff. In wonderlands it's at least possible to have fun if you mute the cringe and just play the game.
>ctrl+f
>"Brink"
>no results found
/v/sisters..
Splash Damage is still around IIRC
every time I'm reminded of Brink, I just remember the yahtzee video stating the incredibly obvious that it was a clone of TF2 destined to fail take a shot
It didn't really kill the studio. That said, Brink makes me sad as frick because I was totally into that Waterworld apocalyptic setting the game was going with.
Same
>Halo Killer
Halo is such a powerful franchise that the only thing capable killing it was ____itself____
>halo killer
lol, turns out the halo killer was halo itself
this joke was made about 10 times itt, thank you.
sorry, i didnt know 🙁
