Xenoblade 3. What a stinker of a finale. At least the photo was funny.

The last 2 acts absolutely murdered the game
This fantastic main cast deserved so much more in terms of story

xenoblade just has been all about cute anime girls since 2 bro, story???

The last 2 chapters were underwhelming, but they hardly “murdered” the game. Quit being such a melodramatic moron

    >been on a metroidvania kick
    >managed to play almost every title I’ve heard buzz about except this one
I just don’t like the look of it. I’m sure I’ll eventually cave and try it and probably even like it but damn that’s a hurdle.

You didn't like how the gameplay looked, or do you just dislike the graphics?

If you don't like it at first glance the game itself won't convince you. I was the same as you, holding off because it didn't strike me, but when I finally bit the bullet it had essentially all the issues I thought it did. Your attacks being summons makes everything a disjoint hitbox that's difficult to accurately space, especially while trying to evade enemies. The environments are grey and samey, with an overly simple map that openly tells you what regions are fully explored to compensate for it. The usual problems with save stations being teleporters essentially removes back-tracking. Movement is uninteresting and imprecise. If you're absolutely jonesing for a 6/10 metroidvania with essentially no original ideas then it's an unremarkable way to spend 10-20 hours but otherwise unless you have a e-boi ryona fetish it's really not worth your time.

What are the best 2D Souls-like metroidvanias? I heard good things about Dead Cells and Hollow Knight. Are Blasphemous and this good? What about salt&sanctuary

      >Dead Cells
it's a "metroidvania" for like an hour while you collect all the exploration runes, after which it's just a roguelike, really good tho
      >Hollow Knight
very good, but backtracking is annoying, even for a metroidvania
      >Blasphemous
haven't played but i heard its good
      >salt&sanctuary
solid, closest thing you'll get to 2D dark souls

        It's trash

Blasphemous is decent, controls feel somewhat stiff but it just makes combat and platforming feel deliberate and more tense. I didn’t pay much heed to the lore so I couldn’t tell you how intriguing it is to pick away at that. It’s good looking but it can be frustrating by times and it’s a bit unbalanced. I don’t know why you need your metroidvanias to take cues from dark souls, though plenty of non-soulslike metroidvania out there that are much better than what you’re pigeonholing yourself into trying. Guacamelee, Rabi-Ribi, Bloodstained and Yoku’s Island Express are all better than what you’ve just listed out

King's Field IV. After the absolute kino that is fighting alfred and seth at the end of KF 3, you would think tha the devs would refrain from making a sitting duck again. At least the final area is cool

Fun game with exploration, action, combat
but the final "escape sequence" is ridiculous
    >repeat these jumps and die 50 times until you memorize the exact pattern of the fire
Made me enraged and ruined the whole game in hindsight

The controls aren’t good enough, it’s all too wonky to demand that pinpoint precision in the chase sequences. I was having Uminkeo tier meltdowns for the chases and the normal gameplay only gets away with it because it’s not nearly as challenging. Mark of the Ninja has the same problem where the controls are fine until challenge areas where they demand precision, which the game simply wasn’t built around. Ori is really overrated and along with Hollow Knight is probably the only indie metrodivania popular enough for normalfags to pick up on

This game had so much soul
From art direction to OST to settings

Speaking of the art direction, I don't think that anyone ever bothered uploading the art book, so here it is if anyone wants it. You'll probably need something like Calibre to read it though.
