Understandable. Back when I played it in my teenage years, it was my favorite. I still love the characters and how they interact with the random NPCs, but the dungeons, bosses, and main story feel a little like going through the motions.
My main gripe with FF9 is that it isn't as ambitious as FF7 and 8. Both were pushing hard with style and themes. FF9 felt like it took two steps back in alot of ways. I liked the characters but the art style and the music were weak. The constant references to past games also makes the game feel soulless without its own identity. I also think it has the weakest soundtrack of the PS1 games. There's only 3 or 4 memorable songs, versus the masterpieces we got in 7 & 8.
Mind you, I don't even consider FF7 or 8 my favorites. They're Low-A to B-tier. But FF9 is definitely worse, in my book.
Every FF has shit gameplay and a stupid story, the only thing that matters in any of these games is the setting, characters, and music. People liking FF9 is understandable when you understand these truths about the series.
X is just as forgettable at the rest it was just hype because PS2 and it had voice acting which did not save it.
The only way characters who were shit could matter was you had to go out of your way to take them through Auron's sphere grid.
Tidus was literally a b***h crybaby who cried multiple times and was probably the biggest pussy mc of all time.

X fails at side content (like almost all FFs, with very few actually being good in that regard) and still has some problems with some character arcs and story elements and pacing. It also has bad explorability.
Theres also problems like shit voice acting and terrible cutscene direction, but I don't really wanna actually count those because cmon, it was their first attempt.
Funnily enough XII is the almost exact opposite to X and is also way worse.
At least the job system in X2 kept it alive and the fact if you ignore everything but the waifus and the dike garbage it's actually not that bad.
But still fricking bad because who gives a frick about Tidus holy shit.

I'm curious what about it you found so difficult to grasp that you had to omit it from your read completely though. That seems to imply an incredibly low level of intelligence that would ordinarily make one incapable of understanding how to even post on an imageboard.

This is reductionary but I legitimately feel you have to have no social skills to not understand Tidus as a character or think of him as a pussy. You can say he isn't stoic for sure, but outside of that you're moronic

The biggest issues you can levy against IX are that the battles are slow, that the character building /RPG mechanics are back to being as basic as IV, that the OST is mediocre in terms of FFs and that some of the cast don't have great / finished arcs (also Beatrix getting away with everything).
Its also still one if the better /best FFs.
VIII, it is not.
Final Fantasy as a whole is tasteless mediocre slop carried only by nostalgia and weebs
