Have you ever seen a book to film adaptation? Of a book you've actually read that is. Do you believe those adaptations just bring the book to set and start filming every page from it in order? Halo, the TV show, actually throws out every character from the games and uses brand new ones with the same names, not just incidental characters, but all of them, including the protagonist. It throws out the entire story of the games and makes its own unrelated one. All it has in common with Halo is having Spartans and Covenant in them. But you're trying to claim TLOU the TV show is identical to that because....why?

Any adaptation that racewashes characters and otherwise explicitly panders to out-of-universe parties can never be faithful. For an adaptation to be faithful it must only prioritize showing the quality of the original work, the same way a remake of a game cannot be called faithful unless it only does its best to show that original idea now with fewer technical limitations.

Any adaptation that racewashes characters and otherwise explicitly panders to out-of-universe parties can never be faithful. For an adaptation to be faithful it must only prioritize showing the quality of the original work, the same way a remake of a game cannot be called faithful unless it only does its best to show that original idea now with fewer technical limitations.

No one gives a frick about Big Daddy or Bugs Bunny or that Nickelodeon porn robot the way they care about Mario and Link and Pikachu. Then you have them thinking they can compete with a polished product like Ultimate with no voice acting, shit balancing and support and they wonder why no one wants to buy Nick All-Stars Brawl 2 or why Multiversus had to pull their game from stores so they could relaunch it.
I think a lot of people discovered many of those Nintendo characters for the first time through Smash Bros though. It's definitely more so about sheer quality. Those Nickelodeon games have tonnes of nostalgic, highly recognisable characters, but the game itself feels cheap and shit and lacking in even basic QoL stuff.
There's no formula as to why Playstation All-stars was bad beyond it having a shit roster and being badly designed.
It's not just "character I know" though. Hell there's plenty of characters whose popularity, either their own or their entire series, was greatly increased by appearing in Smash. Pit for instance, his redesign and revival in Brawl got Sakurai to make his first new game in twenty years.
Smash is a much higher quality series than these knockoffs like Playstation Allstars, which suffered from ugly graphics, a weak roster and flat gameplay.
Smash clones fail as they're always cheap trash compared to the game they're aping. Even Playstation All-Stars bafflingly fricked this up. I played it, both local and online, it's a shitheap of a game. You can't score unless you fill up your super meter (there's 3 tiers of supers, usually tier 2 is the only one worth using though with a few exceptions for specific characters), it's like if Smash requires you to use your super smash attack as a finisher. As previously mentioned, the game also uses stock music and also lacked options for different modes. All these "smash clones" are low effort and poor quality, it's a damn shame a good one hasn't come about yet as honestly Smash needs a competitor to force their hand to fix issues like its dogshit online infrastructure.
Another thing is that smash goes the full mile to accommodate wacky and casual playstypes, making it an ideal party game
The clones or derivatives usually have 1 set way of playing, making it only fun if everyone playing is in on it/good.

it seems like PSASBR in general suffered from not having enough of a budget to say no to publishers who wanted them to make weird inclusions for the sake of promoting their upcoming releases, even outside of Donte there's the MGR version of Raiden several months before that game released and Bioshock's stage is from Infinite since that game was also coming up at the time (even though the Bouncer Big Daddy's from the first two games)

Halo, the TV show, actually throws out every character from the games and uses brand new ones with the same names, not just incidental characters, but all of them, including the protagonist. It throws out the entire story of the games and makes its own unrelated one. All it has in common with Halo is having Spartans and Covenant in them. The reason other companies trying to make Smash clones fail to reach the same level of success is because:

I think a lot of people discovered many of those Nintendo characters for the first time through Smash Bros though. It's definitely more so about sheer quality. Those Nickelodeon games have tonnes of nostalgic, highly recognisable characters, but the game itself feels cheap and shit and lacking in even basic QoL stuff.
There's no formula as to why Playstation All-stars was bad beyond it having a shit roster and being badly designed.
It's not just "character I know" though. Hell there's plenty of characters whose popularity, either their own or their entire series, was greatly increased by appearing in Smash. Pit for instance, his redesign and revival in Brawl got Sakurai to make his first new game in twenty years.
Smash is a much higher quality series than these knockoffs like Playstation Allstars, which suffered from ugly graphics, a weak roster and flat gameplay.
Smash clones fail as they're always cheap trash compared to the game they're aping. Even Playstation All-Stars bafflingly fricked this up. I played it, both local and online, it's a shitheap of a game. You can't score unless you fill up your super meter (there's 3 tiers of supers, usually tier 2 is the only one worth using though with a few exceptions for specific characters), it's like if Smash requires you to use your super smash attack as a finisher. As previously mentioned, the game also uses stock music and also lacked options for different modes. All these "smash clones" are low effort and poor quality, it's a damn shame a good one hasn't come about yet as honestly Smash needs a competitor to force their hand to fix issues like its dogshit online infrastructure.
Another thing is that smash goes the full mile to accommodate wacky and casual playstypes, making it an ideal party game
The clones or derivatives usually have 1 set way of playing, making it only fun if everyone playing is in on it/good.
