The saddest thing ever was that XY made putting together an amazing super powerful team easier than ever, yet completely skimped out on having in-game battles hard enough to warrant doing any of it.

that's why it also came with the best online system, so you could battle real people.

        >best online system
Agree completely, but I hate how GF has always been so oddly restrictive about online features. Like, why the frick can I only battle 6v6 against people with friend codes? And why can't there be basic communication when trading pokemon? There was nothing worse than all the "I'll trade you a starter, for a Mew."

Your 50 streak Battle Maison run, anon? You do have the ribbon...?

You mean the most braindead version of the Battle Tower until SS completely gutted it? Seriously, between the un-touched singles AI that still falls for the True Ant strat from Gen 5 to the whole new non-scaling making FEAR Aron an even more braindead solution to Doubles/Triples, the only remotely difficult ones are Rotations (which True Ant still makes easier) and Multis (which FEAR Aron Still makes easier) because they're less reliably cheesed. Getting the ribbon and getting every berry are equally trivial with FEAR Aron triples. Simply put, there's nothing worth using it on unless you really want all 5 statues in the lobby and that's hardly a reward given the performance issues battles have in that game (still less dreadful than Gen 4, especially Multis with another player holy shit that's miserable).

How is it in modern Pokémon? I stopped playing shortly after beating Sun in 2016 but I remember thinking the island where your Pokémon passively gained evs and the removal of PSS were all strict downgrades from Gen 6.

moronic logic. Also, contests are overrated as frick. I never got the buzz for it other than it being "baby's first sidegame."

I'm just asking what was good about them, I didn't like pokestar or join avenue, but I was a little late for the latter. Why are you being a b***h about it?

If you were just asking, then the second comment was unnecessary and made the first comment out to be a rhetorical question, instead.
                So, here's my opinion:
For pokestudios, it's fun exploring the weird scenarios for each movies and getting dialogue such as these. That and I like the custom monsters and character designs that comes with it.
For Join Avenue, it's has a variety of shops, which are a good source of getting good items you normally can't buy like Max Revives as well as prizes like the Masterball. That and it has a nice vibe.

JOIN AVENUE IS JUST SPECIAL npcs (buy evo items, raise happiness, berries, etc) ALL IN ONE SPOT
PASS POWERS FROM THE ENTRALINK = O-POWERS AND YOU CAN ALSO GET BERRIES THIS WAY (le "how do I farm berries in Unova")
NONE OF YOU homosexualS PLAY THE GAMES

    Poke Pelago did it better.

      Anonymous

Poke Pelago was literally a stolen Digimon mechanic AND misrepresented in art and in game descriptions. It's literally a farm you put your Pokemon into where they sit there as sprites and do nothing, but gain EVs passively and occasionally do tasks where they might bring you items. It's somehow a worse version of the Poke Jobs system from Galar. Which was also shit.

        Anonymous

The sprites in Poke Pelago give you beans and farm items, you can increase their happiness and EV, there are also visiting Pokemon you can catch. It's the best use of Pokemon in your box and it's the best way to get items regularly without trivializing it.

      >Super Training
This is one of the most overhyped features, it is not fun in the slightest

Even worse, you don't even get EVs instantly (but the berry farming is the best one yet, they're moronic for not bringing it back)

      Anonymous

Pelago is practically fricking phone game. All it's missing is the pop-up asking you to use real money to lower the training time. Super Training's faux-shooter minigames are just cooler and gratifying.

I kind of hated super training because the first time I played XY it made me feel obligated to EV train everything I caught. This garbage is burned into my brain:

Also my contribution to overlooked and forgotten mechanics is that wireless plaza thing that was only in pokemon platinum. Literally no one cared about that shit. At least all the wireless adapter bullshit from FRLG and Emerald that no one did is notable for how obnoxious it was.

Yeah I was a bit moronic in that regard. Was no need to reset my team EVs and grind them out in the minigame. I did initially do it just so I could evolve Duoblade however.

in platinum I could battle people online (I did tons of times with anons on the pokemon general thread on Ganker before this board was created as containment board for pokemon) and we could talk on mic, record the fight to see later, and get a pin on the glove of the location of the person you battled with. I dont know how many of these things are still in the games because I completely stopped online battles after gen 4

      Anonymous

Online battles are no longer legitimately possible in the DS games and soon for 3DS games. All Switch games require a subscription to NSO for online trades and battles.
I do not know when voice chatting in the games themselves was removed, but from what I've read, they're not in the Switch games.
Vs. Recorder is gone as of Gen 8.
Geonet was exclusive to Gens 4 - 5 and could have been possible in Gens 6 - 7 with the 3DS's region settings (see Vivillon) which can also be seen on the PSS.
