ITT: Post EXTREMELY unpopular opinions.
>I think Monster Hunter and Souls music is bland
>Call of Duty Ghosts and WW2 are great Cods
>Oblivion's quests are dogshit
>Kota Hoshino's music is weird and really dreadful. You don't need Kota to make a good Armored Core OST
>Valve has never made a good game, maybe good tech demos but never anything worth playing.
>Anyone saying 2023 was a good year only remembers the tail end of the year. overall it was absolutely unremarkable
>Pause to heal is fine
>Graphics and art style are synonymous
I hate difficulty in games and I think every one should have a super easy mode when you get killed a couple times and just want to continue
I noticed all the really hard games are made by asian devs. I recently beat F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch and had to change the difficulty twice.
there are literally zero good souls soundtracks and monhun is only known for its main theme
I think you're not a filthy wienersucking homosexual.
thats a popular opinion, anon
Shadow of the Colossus is grossly overrated.
A cool tech demo with great graphics for a PS2 game (and silky smooth 10 fps) with very boring gameplay.
You don't fight the colossi, you go through a simple puzzle that only has one possible solution (inb4 the jump trick in the sword one) and if you frick up one step of the puzzle then you have to do it all over again until you get it right.
All style, zero substance.
>GoW Ragnarök has fun gameplay but the story really drags the game down.
-Horizon series is fairly good and no one on this board who criticizes it has ever played it.
-Dark Souls 1 is the most impressive of the souls series for when it came out, but I would much rather replay 3 since that game doesn't have any areas that I don't hate.
-Difficulty selection at start of the game is a good thing. Limiting myself from using 90% of the game mechanics to make the game hard isn't a good way to do things.
Partly agree. I think it's a good game but I wouldn't say it's a very fun game to play.
Horizon gameplay is fine but the story really is fricking terrible, the cast is terrible, the art direction is terrible, it has too many problems for me to bother with it lots of other games do everything better than horizon.
Cant agree with the last two
Although the definition of "graphics" is always confused in arguments by different parts of the gaming industry
Oh this i can agree with, its a cool style though, but damn, cant enjoy the game, the linearity in such a huge game also boggles my mind
I played Horizon, bought it for 10 bucks, still fricking regret it, it sucks
Into Free dragons dogma song is overrated, I am glad they replaced it with something more somber
I agree
>JUST LIKE THE DANGAN
Fricking japs. Why do they say dangan instead of bullet? And why do their songs in Japanese include random English words? It never sounds good.
Sekiro is too hard to be fun. It's beatable but taking hours for every boss is not enjoyable.
Every 3D fighting game should use the SoulCalibur 8-way run system.
>Valve has never made a good game, maybe good tech demos but never anything worth playing
That's cause most of the good games Valve has "made" were either bought from mod teams or game school students.
That being said, the stretch of games from HL2's release to Portal 2's release were an amazing group of releases. I dislike the GAAS/lootbox approach to their multiplayer games and HL: Alyx was extremely underwhelming from a Half-Life and gameplay standpoint. It was a fun tech demo and cool environments for sure, but it felt very repetitive and the scale seemed very dialed back compared to HL1, 2, and the episodes.
Rock band was always better than guitar hero.
Harmonix didn't quite nail it with GH2 tho
those charts are ass
Persona soundtracks in general, 5 in particular, fricking suck.
I'm sorry about your shit taste. It's terminal.
No u
Each persona game has a handful of good tracks but personagays have memed every games soundtrack into being a 10/10 masterpiece when the only pieces people remember are the ones you hear every 3 seconds
Pic related is the persona songs in my independence fm/self radio folder for when I'm playing GTA 4 and 5
For me it's the P5 Strikers OST, at least the boss themes and some of the regular battle ones.
true
>look at me. I'm a contrarian
you're still a fricking moron
FFXIII is the best FF game hands down
Unpopular on Ganker or in general? Hell, I'll do both.
>Unpopular on Ganker
Modern Capcom is good and hasn't put out a bad game in years.
>Unpopular in general
Modern Capcom isn't great, and far from their peak.
I really don't get the appeal of Persona. From the outside looking in it looks like generic weeby visual novel crap.
If you don't know Japanese at bare minimum N3 level you should not be allowed to play Japanese games.
Yeah you're probably one of those guys who liked to sit down camping with the M27 thermal, frick off OP
>gold M27 thermal
🙂
"gimmicky" controllers are better for the industry than more powerful platforms
I will never forget steel battalion on xbox
>Nintendo IS a fricking Japanese country, stop shitting yourself when they make "muh anime games"
>Actually for that matter, if everyone stopped using the word "weeaboo" and any synonyms/variants for a month, video game discussion would only improve
>Pretty much every form of freedom is overrated; I'm not automatically having fun because I can do shit in more than one order
>Turn-based gameplay is in no way "outdated", you're just a homosexual with zero attention span
i think nintendo games are not fun
Smash games are well made and fun, it's the fan base and Nintendo's "online" that sucks
Pokemon hasn't had a honest effort since platinum/ BW1
Halo hasn't been worth playing since bungee did 3
Capcom fighting games artistically going for 2.5d instead of 2d looks like garbage
FFX3 should come out and retcon X2
Games that excessively emphasize difficulty is exclusively for tryhards
Games that excessively emphasize plot is exclusively for casuals who just want a movie they occasionally get interrupted by a action sequence for
Console gaming has as many 0ros and cons as PC
Launch PS3> 360> PS3> Wii/ Wii U
Switch>= PC (with cost being the only factor, yes there's poorgays a-plenty, it is what it is) >= modern Microsoft>= PS4/5
>Zelda, Mario, and Kirby all fricking sucked the minute they left the N64
>All fighting games suck (including Smash)
>All FPS games suck
>All mobas suck
>RPGs haven't been good for over a decade
>Every Souls game before Elden Ring was shit
>Chasing graphical fidelity was the biggest mistake in gaming
My taste pisses off everyone somewhere honestly.
Tell us about the games you like.
Persona 5 is pretty good.
Dragon's Dogma is trash
Modern monster hunter gameplay is better than souls. I like doing weapon combo's and guard pointing instead of running around a boss and just spamming my 30 seconds iframe roll crutch.
they're not comparable, wojakBlack person.
all clover studios games are shit
ESRB isn't stringent enough about sexual content in games, and it's spawned an entire genre of games that exist only to sell sex to teenagers.
I believe the exact opposite, that the threshold of what people will label "lol theres nothing but sex appeal here" has fallen through the floor over the years while games have only gotten tamer.
Donkey Kong Country games are completely without soul. Like the very definition of soulless.
Dragon Age 2 is the best Dragon Age game
DA:O was overrated trash with a really shit story that gets a free pass because of side-boob
maybe you can update your unpopular opinions the next time you make this thread?
>Graphics and art style are synonymous
Alright this one upset me, good job.
Parrying is the right way to play any souls game. If you rely too much on rolling then you're playing on easy mode.
People who say gameplay is everything are just lying to you for cool boy points. Graphics, story, music, etc are all valid reasons to play a game and can easily make up for subpar gameplay
>can easily make up for subpar gameplay
nope
it will just make me say "wish this had better gameplay" while not enjoying the damn thing
He's right though. If the experience or atmosphere is good enough, you can easily forgive the lack of decent gameplay. Especially if all the non-gameplay elements come together as a really good cohesive whole.
It's why Ganker praises shit like Ace Attorney and VNs all the damn time.
Ace Attorney has good gameplay overall, it's just light because it knows what it is. Simple logic puzzles and contradiction spotting but it's functional by every metric.
not really no, "wish this had better gameplay" still stands
it all depends on what its the goal of the game and if it manages to make it fun/engaging to play it (mechanically) (also this goal can vary, a lot)
there's plenty games that have amazing music and visuals, atmosphere, whatever yet those aspects can't salvage it from what is it's primary form of engagement
also what consists of good execution is a big rabbit hole, genres, player bases, comparisons, conventions, date of creation and what not, but gameplay is what makes a game
STALKER is a good example of shit gameplay held up by everything else. The atmosphere alone makes that game worth playing despite the jank as frick gameplay
It's certainly most important, but not the only thing. If a game can only excel at one facet, it should be how it plays, but of course the best games ever made all at least pass a minimum level of quality in everything. Story being the opposite side of the coin where a solid story (mostly likable characters but plot can factor in too) can elevate a good game higher but it cannot carry anything other than a VN on its own and it being bad won't drag an otherwise good game down too far.
I'm legit struggling to think of a game with good gameplay but lacking everything else to a notable degree but I can easily think of many or the reverse
"People" that say it, don't even know what gameplay actually is and possess the intellectual capacity of a broken chair. "Gameplay" is the act of the player engaging and playing the game, describing a moment in time where you were compelled to stop and take a screenshot because whatever you saw caught my eye is just as valid in regards to said process as performing a cool combo or some other bing bang wahoo activity. In the minds of the mentally disabled, it's not gameplay unless it's numbers or loot popping out of enemy models.
Everyone who says gameplay is king are boomershooter gays who think that spastic zoomer parody webm is what good gameplay actually looks like
I think every single Souls game is overrated trash and the offshoots they have spawned have been a disaster for third person rpg games. The very term "souls-like", has bean the death knell of fricking creativity, where every game tries to implement the same exact fricking systems and its flaws without understanding why the first Souls games were designed the way they had been - due to console limitations they had to dance around.
I think Zelda games are garbage, all of them, same as Pokemon, Digimon and everything else of that kind.
I think JRPG's are boring shit barring Chrono Trigger.
I think there hasn't been a single genuinely good game released this year and there hasn't been a single great game released since 2004, the kind of a game that would have endured and been played by fans for decades to come.
Thief is overrated as hell barely even feels like playing a stealth game more like a stealth themed collectathon
dodge rolling and i-frames are absolutely fricking boring for combat
>WW2 are great Cods
This isn't unpopular unless you're saying the MP was great, the SP was actually very well done.
There hasn't been a good companion in a video game, ever and I'd prefer them not to be forced on me.
TLOU2 was not a bad game. But it's a game able to be "enjoyed" once. Playing that shit more than once is a clear sign of moronation
Once you start modding a game you'll burn out very quickly and stop playing it.
Battle passes are great for F2P games. They incentivize playing the game and getting better while rewarding you for doing so. The issue is that a lot of them aren't implented well, don't offer sufficient rewards for non-paying players and most of them forgo the "getting better" part.
GaaS are just the natural evolution of online games. Their disappearance after going offline isn't an exclusive problem to them. The real problem is that their assets need to be available after they go offline.
While Steam did popularize DRM, it was a necessary compromise for PC gaming. A lot of publishers and devs wouldn't have accepted putting their game on it without one at that time.
90% of the games on your list are dogshit, broccoli hair.
>Dead Rising in garbage tier
>TLOU in good
complete soullessness
Brawl's not overhated, it's rightfully hated as a competitive game and rightfully praised as a party game / singleplayer game.
Masuda once said that Pokemon games are easy because if they're not, kids will get bored of them and do something else. He was completely right, and it's not just kids.
The reason so many games today have easy modes and accesability options is because most people won't finish a game if it gives them more than a marginal amount of challenge or annoyance. There are, after all, hundreds of online ftp games they could be playing instead.
On the flip side, a game that's too easy is boring to play. You wouldn't constantly play "put the blocks in the hole" game that babies play because it would be too easy and boring for you.
Minecraft is shit and it has always been shit, frick sandbox games in general, there is no actual objective, there is no real effort put into the making of these goyslop games and you should feel bad if you enjoy them at all.
Nintendo should go 3rd party.
Calling yourself unpopular is a losing move. It doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look like a whiny b***h.
If you're trying to be unpopular or search for something that is that's just being contrarian and I agree. But sometimes your genuine feelings really aren't that common. Threads like this are like 75% the former and 15% people just lying for (You)s.
TP is the second best Zelda game after ALttP and the best 3D Zelda to date even with the super long start and motion controls.
lmao how are those extremely unpopular
That'milquetoast redditor contrarian phase fricking hell
I think that while TF2 is fun, it's also one of the most overrated games of all time.
Critical hits % is a trash mechanic. You already have weaknesses in the game or skill based hits like head shots. There's no planning to it, its just a random chance hit you put stats in to boost the random chance.
Timing-based crits are based though.
Yeah because it require some sort of skill to it. Its more engaging and rewarding that way
i love gay sex!!
die fujo
we're not even at the tail end of the year it's still fricking august
Gaming would be a lot better if shooters didn't exist.
>theres plenty of good vidya to play
>/pol/cels that seethe about woke shit are parasites that will never create anything of worth
That first point needs to be reiterated over and over. The state of big publishers and industry trends might be in the shitter but there's never been more good games available to play between back catalogs, emulation, and new low-mid level releases and the rare good big budget title. People lament the death of gaming while not being able to name enough active developers to get through all their fingers, and taking fricking Metacritic seriously.
>Posts normies tier hot takes
Next you'll say monster hunter world is better than rise and Bloodborne is the best souls game
OP is a copypasta, like 2 weeks old. He can't even think of new unpopular things.
>normie tier hottakes
you're just taking the piss, almost no one on any space will agree with what i've said absolutely nobody. Tri is the best game
Isn't tri the one on the Wii with the water combat made for literal toddlers
reddit thread
>outside of graphics, scarlet and violet are the best pokemon games and it isn't even close
>outside of the 15 troony npcs and gay centaurs dragonflight is the best wow expansion since mop
>vanilla+ mods are the only way to play minecraft, automation is cancer
>final fantasy 13-2 has the best gameplay in the franchise
>every mario party after 2 and 3 was a mistake
>ost is more important than gameplay, story, graphics, and art style
Vanilla+ Minecraft mods is just a rabbit hole of people 3 days away from trooning out screaming that a qol feature isn't vanilla+ even if it's literally a vanilla feature in the bedrock/legacy console versions
>outside of graphics, scarlet and violet are the best pokemon games and it isn't even close
I'm sorry, but Pokemon is a fricking RPG series first and foremost. A game that throws out every RPG element but stats and levels can't be the best.
Darkstalkers is as good as Street Fighter and Marvel VS Capcom.
Most people who played Darkstalkers love it as much or more than those, the opinion is only unpopular by the limited amount of people who've touched the series more so than the polar opposite opinion actually being popular. I've only played a few hours of VSav so I don't think I count.
and art style are synonymous
bruh this isn't unpopular, it's just plain wrong
Old video game endings are better than new ones. Games were usually not built around story and beating the actual game itself was the reward. The ending cutscenes were just there to give you something to look at while you were fricking happy you finally beat it after months of trying. This feeling is no longer in modern games and most zoomers will unfortunately miss out on this wonderful feeling too.
Gamers are 75% responsible for predatory business practices that have been going on since the ps3/360 era.
Guardian Heroes is the most overrated Sega Saturn game ever made and the only reason why people parrot it because it was the only other Treasure game that had a similar name to Gunstar Heroes before the gba sequels came out and Sega fans needed some hipster takes after the bad defeat during the 5th gen. Guardian Heroes is one of the most bland and unfocused beat em ups ever made.
You're not wrong about GH but the big skeleton fella is cool.
It took about till 1995 onwards to make consistently good games throughout the industry.
You have a few exceptions to the rule that are timeless classics like Tetris, Mario, & Punch Out but there's a reason that a game crash happened in 1983 and hasn't happened since.
has never made a good game, maybe good tech demos but never anything worth playing.
I agree the most with this but I have only played TF2 and Portal 1.
>Grandia Xtreme has the best combat of any jrpg ever.
>The default setting is how the game is meant to be played.
>All games should have full button remapping or none. No "select presets".
>Luck is the best stat.
Vanilla Skyrim is nearly perfect, most modders are deluded egomaniacs who have zero idea what it actually means to build something
Without marketing all those good games will be forgotten
medieval is a boring and overused setting for fantasy games and shows a lack of creativity from the designers to use more interesting settings for their games
you know its messed up when they try but the other features hold it back like gameplay being bad (see PS2 era games)
>unpopular
only women/NPCs care about such things
All the BioWare games post DAO are slop with the entire effort of the writers going to, and the players expected enjoyment to come from, companions. And since then every single medium to large size western RPG is all about catering to some Tumblr oc donut steel companion group
>Dark Souls 2 is more interesting than 3
>Bloodborne has terrible design like a terribly balanced NG+, the DLC is unfun, and more areas were cut out for the bland randomized dungeons
>Mass Effect 2 aged like shit and everything people complain ME3 turned into gameplay and story-wise was already in it there
>FFXV is a good game
>No mech combat games have been good
