i was hesitant for a second to call it my favorite game of all time, then i gave it a good thought and yeah honestly this is it.
Even its "flaws" like the occasional bullshit deaths contribute to the atmosphere and uncaring nature of the setting for me. it's really great.
I'm almost finishing the Rivulet's campaign and it just clicked for me this is my favorite game. although the DLC was disappointing related to writing and half of the art (shitty, unprofessional art made by twitter artists). I just have a hard time thinking what went wrong with the writing, the art being sometimes bad is not that much of a problem but reading 5p, such an arrogant powerful being calling you "wet mouse' (rats technically do not exist in the RW universe, only the lantern mice that look like nothing Slugcat) is just shameful.
Rain World has officially filtered me. I dont get the appeal at all. I have tried about 10 times to get into it, but all I do is run around, eat, and sleep. I dont even know wtf the point is, I have progressed a few zones by going through the gates, but when im there I just do the same shit.

If you ignore the content they added which is all pretty bad then the PC version with the texture mod would be better. But as a product judged in its entirety the gamecube version is simply the best because everything it offers is good.
If you want people's real opinions then just do a 3x3 thread. For most people it's not easy to pick just one number 1, especially when video games can be radically different but still great. And depending on your mood you may favor something else.

Don't listen to the other guy, the dlc new campaigns and zones are a ton of fun. Base game really just has one and a half campaigns (Hunter is more of a remix then full campaign). Also co-op is incredibly fun if you have a friend or two.

the new slugcats are good, new areas and enemies are good, the music is fine. A couple of the tracks are really great, like the metropolis threat theme.
the writing is mostly cringe and to be expected from fan writers. If you haven't played the base game yet I'd suggest holding off, and then once you're done survivor get the dlc if you want to play more.
It's good. But like the others said it's basically just a big mod. Kinda like final doom come to think of it. The amount of content you get though is absurd and with the new modding system there's just so much raw content. (and you can rollback to 1.5 to play all the old kino mods). That being said like a lot of people say I strongly don't advise getting it before playing the BASE game 2 or 3 times because it is a completely different experience and won't add much if you didn't already like the base content to a high degree. One of my favourite parts of the DLC is the extended soundtrack for one of the new campaigns to reflect the world changes.
