A lot of 2deep4u games are only 2deep4u because a bunch of people overhyped it so they could look smart, you have to look past their pretentiousness so you can enjoy the games for it's own shit and not for it's reputation
This is honestly true of most art, if it weren't for pretentious midwits most people would have read stuff like moby dick or watched shakespeare

they'll need to vet a good studio which can take years, a bandai namco exec loved this game and said it was promising so I doubt they'll just drop it, especially given that it made them such money and they got it on the cheap.
I mean they already had that team that made Very Little Nightmares and that was solid. The only thing holding them back was that it was mobile exclusive.
>message or deeper meaning is trying to be conveyed in these games
It really isn't and you have to reach to come up with one because there's barely any plot in the first place. I see it as just a bunch of, really great, spooky visuals and motifs, not something you're meant to look into for reasons other than deciphering the worldbuilding and lore
There is absolutely deeper meaning and ideas being communicated but they are contained entirely in themes and imagery that only the original developers really understand and appreciate, most people just won't get it.
>Ganker thinks any game that tells its story solely through visuals and not exposition is "pretentious"
The story of Limbo, Little Nightmares, Inside and all the other games in this genre are very simple and not hard to follow. This board really is full of morons. Look up what the story is if you are so moronic you can't figure basic shit like a message of "gluttony and consumerism bad" because it isn't spoken.
It's less trying to make explicit points but moreso communicating abstract ideas in abstract visual form, the world of LN is obviously nightmarish and not meant to communicate realistic ideas. Morons and Black personapes just cannot into anything above their room temperature IQ and call anything slightly complex "pretentious".
I think it's as much autism as IQ, interpreting nuance in art is not a skill autists are known for, that's why they like anime shit that spells out every little detail even if all the details are meaningless
one of the song names in the OST is literally "Nothing Lasts Forever", it's obvious the developers are trying to convey cynical, more depressing ideas and tones in the game.
the simple formula of creeping around and finding ways to kill grotesque monsters with clever and oftentimes brutal solutions was kino and it deserves another title
That game was fricking awesome. It's so clearly made by perfectionists and it payed off. Every moment feels so intentional and considered.

Limbo was really cool as well. I'm excited for their next game, which is apparently going to be fully 3D instead of a side scroller. The few images that have been shown look kind of like Death Stranding.
It's going to be set on a sort of exoplanet wherein you roam around seeking something, there will be a rover vehicle that you will likely have to repair and cling to as it worsens in condition, all while completely alone. I'd be really interested if they tried to depict an alien cosmic horror, something like the Pulse from INSIDE would be fitting
God that looks gorgeous, I'm glad the actual talent stuck with playdead, the co-founder who broke off made Sommerville which is a piss poor imitator of what playdead is actually capable of, it's actually embarrassing how inferior it looks.
The art directions is so goddamn generic compared to the mere two screenshots of whatever it is playdead is currently cooking up.

The meaning of INSIDE is more about the illusion of choice, the impossibility of escape from a system and the idea of will, control and agency.

I don't get why this game is so divisive. It seems to have a pretty broad appeal in that if you just like puzzles then you'll probably like this game.
It's got challenge, variety, creativity, open ended design, not every laser HAS to be activated to see the end so you can just choose to not do some puzzles you don't like and you can still get to the end. It's just an all around solid game.

Amy Hennig had nothing to do with The Last of Us. I remember an interview where she said she wasn't working on it because she was too busy doing Uncharted 3.
I am the kind of person who only plays these types of games with a personal list easily consisting of top 50 games which I won't share for the life of me because gateopening and spoonfeeding ripped the medium entierly of it's worth. It's a real life skill being taught to you through video game mechanics.
Little Nightmares is a simple critique of the rich lifestyle and media
INSIDE is a tale about control, (you) control the boy, who can control people, who is controlled by the blob, who controls (you) and so on. Every single thing in the game is about control.
LIMBO is probably the underworld for the lost souls, but frankly nobody really knows what about Limbo really is

i think, there are two definitions of a pretentious videogame:
anon being unable to comprehend even a simple story being told not unconventionally (because of young age or extremely low education and upbringing); after that coping mechanism starts working
anon being able to see easily through the story and understanding that developers are very shallow despite plagiarizing details from other works (not videogames)
>anon being able to see easily through the story and understanding that developers are very shallow despite plagiarizing details from other works (not videogames)
So this list
So far we have: >Inside >The Witness >Shadow of the ColossASS >Death Stranding >The Last of ASS (1 and 2) >Dad of Bore (and Ragnarok) >Uncharted (whole series) >Horizon (1 and 2) >Returnal >ASSASSin's Creed (whole series) >mASS Effect (whole series) >BioShock (whole series) >Ghost of Tsushima >Sekiro >The Witcher 3 >Elder Scrolls (whole series) >Red Dead Redemption (1 and 2) >Half-Life (1, 2, and 3) >Metal Gear Solid (whole series) >Final Fantasy (whole series) >Fallout (whole series) >Journey >Tomb Raider (whole series) >Street Fighter 6 >Resident Evil (most of the series) >Cyberpunk 2077 >No Man's Sky >Hellblade >Gone Home
Fallout 1&2 are straightforward
Resident Evil adds bioweapon mutants to Romero zombies, it's not bad, not trying to be smart at all
i didn't play Street Fighter but it's just a fighting game
Sekiro just exploits mythology while adding vibrant characters, it's story was not complicated, just a lot of plagiarism, as usual with fromsoft
>i didn't play Street Fighter but it's just a fighting game
Fighting games don't try to be pretentious, that's true... until SF6.
SF6 is trying to revolutionize fighting games by taking cues from modern AAA games. Currently, it has hyperrealism and a semi-open world. The series now has abandoned any attempt to be fun.

How is any of that pretentious?

Anonymous
Modern AAA games use open worlds to give themselves a sense of grandness, and modern gamers eat it up because in their minds "more things to do = better game" (and not "better gameplay = better game"). So it's pretentious in the literal sense of the word, where they're trying to seem better than what they actually are.
But in reality, SF6 has boring gameplay on par with SF5.
INSIDE is the most pseud game of all time because the more you think about the story and twists the more moronic it gets. But people don't think about it, they just think it's smart without questioning it
What even is there to think about beyond >Dystopian society >No freedom of choice >weird and bizarre happenings occur from there
I don't think it's about themes and it's more of a mood piece meant to evoke certain emotions from you. I thought it was just fricking cool.
How about the fact that as you're rolling at the end you can see little miniatures depicting the ending, implying that it's all part of a plan. Inside is full of moronic shit like this only meant to appeal to pseuds
All that does is reinforce the dystopian setting and the theme of no freedom of choice. It's very simple anon. Again, it's a mood piece more than anything else.
Truly the pretentious game of our times. A court room setting, evidence, objections?! What kind of game has these type mechanics but one that basked in it's own pretension?? Even the judge acts like one!
Cool game, but too easy to break with exploits. Also it literally doesn't have an ending. You're just playing the game normally then it fades to black and says you win or some shit. What the frick man.
Also the DLC's I played were really lame.
PROTIP: if you unironically use the words "2deep4u" and "pretentious" or genuinely believe these are labels that can actually be applied to any artistic works then you are a motherfricking imbecile who needs to kill himself.
This shit got displayed at a local gallery in my city.
why
have you seen current modern "art", even a videogame has more merit than it.
The ending to this shitty game just fell flat for me.
Loved walking around the island though. I thought it was gorgeous for the time.
Sometimes I still go back just because that setting is something I don't think I've seen anyone else do in a game
Only cool thing about this game are the easily missable ghosts

This game is extremely fun tho how is it pretentious
the "No John, you are the Demons" ending
>Was told there was a price to bringing the girl back to life
>Gets possessed by the big bag
Oh man how pretentious
That shit didn't come out of nowhere. You were told right in the fricking opening that it was a bad idea.
that isn't actually what happens. Dorman is still the demon, you're a human who agreed to sell his soul, very classic story.

nothing that hard
The LN2 threads for the first 2 or 3 weeks after it came out were great.
Qrd? was if people shitting on it, or pretending it was super deep and the best game ever?
It was just fun discussions of people liking the game. You don't get that too often. Most new releases are plagued with shit flinging for no reason.
Oh, gotcha. Yeah that tends to be the case until some youtuber or someone with fame makes a video on a game then suddenly the shitposting skyrockets.

most of them are on point but something like Tomb Raider didn't try to be an intellectual game at all
Which others do you disagree with?
Modern AAA games use open worlds to give themselves a sense of grandness, and modern gamers eat it up because in their minds "more things to do = better game" (and not "better gameplay = better game"). So it's pretentious in the literal sense of the word, where they're trying to seem better than what they actually are.
But in reality, SF6 has boring gameplay on par with SF5.
This entire thread is proof that Ganker is the most moronic board on this site.
It really did feel like a waste of time.
What went wrong?
INSIDE is the most pseud game of all time because the more you think about the story and twists the more moronic it gets. But people don't think about it, they just think it's smart without questioning it
What even is there to think about beyond
>Dystopian society
>No freedom of choice
>weird and bizarre happenings occur from there
I don't think it's about themes and it's more of a mood piece meant to evoke certain emotions from you.
How low does your IQ need to be to think Inside is pretentious?
Truly the pretentious game of our times. A court room setting, evidence, objections?! What kind of game has these type mechanics but one that basked in it's own pretension?? Even the judge acts like one!
ITT: No one who has ever read a book cover to cover
fnaf
this garbage is a prime example
I was about to post this a minute or two ago. Distinctly correct.
poltard or dumbshit
you decide
Inside wasn't really that deep or pretentious, tf are you talking about, op?
Have you been listening to ecelebs and getting angry at them again?
Anything made by Hideous Kojimbo
War is... Le bad?...
Cool game, but too easy to break with exploits. Also it literally doesn't have an ending. You're just playing the game normally then it fades to black and says you win or some shit. What the frick man.
Also the DLC's I played were really lame.
cruelty squad
Tears of the Kingdom
ITT: people that don't know what pretentious means. Including homosexual OP.
Buttmad buttboys
Go play some "deep emotional story" walking sim moviegames
PROTIP: if you unironically use the words "2deep4u" and "pretentious" or genuinely believe these are labels that can actually be applied to any artistic works then you are a motherfricking imbecile who needs to kill himself.
Yeah, I use these thereads as recommendation threads.
Anything these numbskulls consider "pretentious" must be good.
