I really miss being able to rematch regular trainers. It gave you reasons to go back through places you've already cleared, and made the world feel more like a living, breathing place. It was fun to see random trainers' teams improve every time you battled them, and was a good way to gain EXP if you needed it without having to mindlessly grind on wild Pokémon. GSC started the concept in a rough, but cute and engaging way, then RSE expanded on it by making more than just a couple trainers per route rematchable, and not being tied to the phone system, then DPPt took the concept even further by taking the Vs. Seeker from FRLG and making it more easily farmable. Then BW comes around and the feature is nowhere to be seen at all? Hope you enjoy fighting the same daily rotating trainers with the same exact teams in the baseball courts and your two shitty rivals. The only two times this feature has returned was when they remade the games that originally had them in already, so then that brings up the question, why not add the feature in the new games?! Scarlet/Violet especially could've done with trainer rematches as currently, you're stuck with the shitty school tournament or Team Star Captain rematches, and the world feels really dead with not much to do after your initial visit.

inb4 moronic unovabort brings up you can rematch gym leaders in the shitty pwt lol
No, but I will point out that at least BW2 has a handful of regular trainers on routes that will battle you again and again, every time you re-enter the area.
They don't get stronger teams or anything though, so it's not exactly great.
The downfall.
it will be finished in the next gen 3 remake, just wait anon
It'll be a Faithful Remake™ with a neutered version of the Battle Frontier, just like Super Contests in BDSP.
This. Gen 5 fricking sucks for removing the Battle Frontier.
never cared about rematching random trainers because i never needed to
>*cuts berry farming, trainer rematches, contests, safari zone, ribbons, ???-type, battle frontier, secret bases, following pokemon, pikachu, chamander*
yep, gen v is nu-pokemon
Berry farming, trainer rematches, ribbons, Pikachu nor Charmander were cut from the game.
>???-type
Getting desperate huh.
Oh yeah, don't forget game corner and unown were cut too.
Gen 5? I simply cannot consider that real pokemon. Fakemon reboots, at best.
Unown were not cut.
Game Corner was already cut prior.
>don't forget game corner
That's gen 4.
Not only would it not matter if Gen 5 didn't introduce new ribbons, they're still in, but it did, actually, introduce new ones.
Event, Birthday, Special, Souvenir, Wishing, Battle Champion and World Champion Ribbons.
>BW not giving ribbons is cringe, but HGSS not giving ribbons is based.
>No mention of XY shredding your old contest ribbons for no reason.
HGSS has 15 ribbons and one of them can't be obtained in any other game
Now that's just shitty
It's also not reflective of reality, unsurprisingly.
So they neutered trainer rematches, then removed secret bases, and following Pokemon as actual genuine complaints about the game. Christ you're pathetic sharty.
Did you know that there's a place in BW2 where a Mienfoo will follow you, as a daily thing you can do?
Also all 649 Pokemon had overworld sprites due to the Dream World so if GF wanted to do following Pokemon they had all the assets to do so
They just didn't :^)
Probably had something to do with how areas had more verticality to it, like how it was more 3D and they couldn't get it to work.
The Mienfoo thing kinda supports that, because it's just the inside of a house, so it's a flat terrain.
If it's so easy, why hasn't anyone hacked it into BW like they did with Platinum?
because nobody gives enough of a shit to do a gen 5 hack when gen 3 has 100x the support
Gen IV and V have basically equal support. It's just harder to implement into Gen V.
Isn't HGSS a platinum romhack? Also platinum already supports following pokemon so it would be easy to implement
Basically, yeah. It's not that simple, but you can carry a lot of the work back to Plat but not forward to BW. That's my point.
>Pointless nonsequiter
Cool, so we can agree that it's much harder to implement following mons into BW and has nothing to do with interest in hacking the game.
Unironically there's a mod for Gen 5 overworld sprites in PokeMMO so it's absolutely possible.
>This completely different game with a completely different codebase did it, so theoretically it can be done!
Do you have any idea how video games work?
Yeah, you "could" do it. You also "could" hack Pokemon Black and White into Super Metroid.
You don't know how videogames work at all apparently if you think it's so completely different that it's laughably impossible.
NTA but it's Pokemon, we all know it's filled with spaghetti code, it's totally plausible that despite not feeling that different BW actually is just that different from Gen 4 games.
Gen 5 uses a similar organization/archive structure to Gen 4 (which allows for shared hacking tools), but a lot of how the game functions is different. Gen 4 didn't tie dialogue to overworld actors, for instance.
>t. Has never hacked a game in his fricking life but thinks he's an expert.
Making a feature from scratch without source code in an existing game is a monumental task. Copying a feature from an altered version of a game is far less difficult. Implementing a feature in your own game is easier still.
"PokeMMO did it" means about as much as "Skyrim did it."
All of the Gen 1-4 sprites are recycled HGSS assets and not all of the Gen 5 Pokemon had sprites
No one wants to hack gen 4-5 because no one wants to emulate a game with 2 screens. Any 20 year old garbage phone will run emerald without hiccups or clunky controls
>All of the Gen 1-4 sprites are recycled HGSS assets
Other way around. People think that they were made for HGSS but they were always made for the dream world while HGSS was being made on the side.
hgss started development in 2004
And that says nothing about when following Pokemon were added.
3 years in development.
So probably around the same time as DP came out, and therefore, BW was in development.
HGSS spent 5 years in development
>Cuts pikachu and charizard
Unfathomably based? Gen V was truly the last good gen
>???-type
That already tells me you're not being genuine with your criticisms.
Why is nobody commenting on whats happening in the vid?
It's a normal daily video for unovabros, why would they need to comment on it?
proficient racists have already seen it a bunch of times
this post is 100% correct and bortBlack folk are coping gen 5 drained all of the soul out of pokemon
>Hope you enjoy fighting the same daily rotating trainers with the same exact teams in the baseball courts and your two shitty rivals.
I mean, that's true for every game. The rematches eventually reach a point where they have the same teams.
Also, there's the Royal Unova too.
Rematching some shitty route 2 trainer is fricking useless and worthless bloat, glad they removed it.
I miss PC item storage. It was nice having some place to store uncommon items until you actually needed them so they weren't clogging your inventory.
Kino Spinoffs.
>then DPPt took the concept even further by taking the Vs. Seeker from FRLG and making it more easily farmable.
It functioned in the exact same way.
A minor thing but I'll never forget GF for getting rid of the auto-run toggle. Out of all the features this was one of the most genius ones and there was absolutely no fricking reason to remove it. Nobody likes having to hold B for the entirety of the game.
Apparently they got rid of the Repel pop-up if you want to use another one.
If that's true, for what fricking purpose.
>forget
Meant "forgive" but yeah, I also won't forget that.
