>Watching a series you like become soulless and then spreading its soullessness to another series you enjoy killing them both
It's fucking awful bros
Paper Mario really killed itself, M&L and Fire Emblem in less than a decade. I can't think of many series' that have had a bigger negative effect on videogames, outside maybe asscreed
It's a shame cause the first three Paper Mario games were genuinely great
The original version of Sticker Star was going to be like Thousand Year Door but Kensuke Tanabe fucked it up, resulting in the bland piece of shit we got instead
What's more insane is how Tanabe was allowed to keep doubling down on blatantly making shit that they knew people didn't like, when so much shit on Switch up until then made a point of trying to address gripes with previous entries.
How the hell did Paper Mario affect Fire Emblem?
This shit should burn in hell as well as everyone who enjoys it for some reason
this is the only paper mario i've played because i got it from club nintendo a decade ago. i thought it was really boring.
the Switch was front loaded with soul in Odyseey and BOTW... but man what a let down when I think otherwise.. what other SOUL did they have post 2018? xb3 came close at times for me
Luigi's Mansion 3 and that 3D Kirby game seem to have a lot of soul
are you kidding me
mario platformers go hard as fuck
The "New" SMB series is the very definition of "soulless"
Aside from the first one.
Nta but wrong.
Now this is a list of souless games.
Street Fighter IV
Street Fighter V
Street Fighter 6
Been playing this recently with friends. As a couch coop game it's really fun. Sure it has the depth of a puddle but not everything has to be hollow knight. For what it is its an enjoyable experience.
Never really went in mario threads before but I'm kinda surprised to see how many people fucking despise the new super mario games. You should be able to know before going into a mario game if your gonna like it or not by now.
There was a point from about 2010 to 2013 where people just got fatigued of the NSMB games because they were putting so many of them out in close succession on top of them not really changing much mechanically outside of the added co op. Anything else is just autism and nitpicking.
Does the switch version come with the Luigi game too? Fucking loved that.
Yeah
I think it's less despising and more looking back at how little each game tried to make itself feel unique from each other
>You should be able to know before going into a mario game if your gonna like it or not by now.
Not liking the NSMB games is not the same as not liking Mario games as a whole. It's basically a subseries within the Mario series at this point where many of the games share similar characteristics and there are several common criticisms of these games
>bland artstyle
>reused assets
>floaty physics
>boring soundtrack (complete with the dreaded "BAH BAH"s)
>formulaic level/world design (grass>desert>water etc.)
They're just boring, safe games that don't take any risks or make any real attempts to shake up the typical 2D platformer formula. And the flat, reused artstyle makes the games feel like budget titles, which it's hard to believe that Nintendo would cut corners on fucking MARIO games, but here we are
>Not liking the NSMB games is not the same as not liking Mario games as a whole
when i said mario games i meant each sub category of mario game, not the entire series as a whole. you know by now if you arent going to like mario kart.
>Sure it has the depth of a puddle but not everything has to be hollow knight. For what it is its an enjoyable experience.
But that's not the standard Mario games should achieve. Each new game that came back in the day was a celebration in it itself.
The problem isn't the game part of the game. They play fine but they all blend into mush. I can only recall that one painting level from U and that's it meanwhile I can recall almost everything from 3 and World.
>surprised to see how many people fucking despise the new super mario games
that's funny because nsmbud on switch keeps selling despite the "hate"
>but sales =/= quality
nsmb is a much more competent game than something like pokémon
I impulse bought super mario maker 2 and mario odyssey. what am I in for?
odyssey is an enjoyable but short tech demo. its pretty over hyped.
Mario Maker 2 is pretty dead but is great if you like creating levels in games. It's essentially an infinite amount of 2D mario levels if you like 2D mario gameplay.
Mario Odyssey is fun but they pad the game out by copy+pasting the same challenges across every world. I believe there's close to 900 moons in the game for you to collect if you want to dedicate 60 - 70 hours collecting them all. Has the best 3D mario platforming mechanics since Super Mario Sunshine so there's that.
soulless kino
MVC2 was kino because of how different its presentation was. The sketch art was the epitome of SOVL. MVCI was actually souless
I thought the general consensus is that NSMBU is one of the best 2D Mario games ever made. The problem is they released a 2D Mario as a home console launch title.
2D Mario hasn't been interesting for over 30 years now
It's hard to top perfection
that's not a Mario game, that's a Yoshi game. It's still pretty good though.
>Super Mario World 2
>not a Mario game
Interesting take.
To be fair, Wario Land 1 was also subtitled "Super Mario Land 3", even though Mario himself only makes a tiny cameo at the ending.
That is fair.
Accepted and approved. I, me (can't speak for anyone else) won't ever be a little shit about this in the future. SM2 is pretty obviously a Yoshi game.
This whole post reads sarcastic but it isn't.
I only really played the Luigi version but it's pretty fucking good.
Played it with my brother, took us one stage to realise we couldn't try to kill each other and play it co-op because these stages were going to push our shit in.
It was a lot of fun.
every mainstream game post gen 7
As a Nintendofag teenager, this was the game that taught me that a Nintendo game could be not only bad, but awful.
It was another NSMB, what was people's problems with it? You got exactly what you expect.
I think the problem is that its just uninspired. Not even pretty either.
Gives you quite low expectations for the franchise too. Basically all of the NSMB games.
NSMBDS was novel because it was the first new Mario platformer since 1992, nearly 15 years. NSMBWii was exciting for introducing official co-op for the first time in platformer Mario, alongside giving the Koopalings a main villain role for the first time in a long while. NSMB2 just reused NSMBWii's assets wholesale but ruined all the music with a ton of constant unnecessary extra "BAH" sounds, opted to reuse the Koopalings yet again instead of another batch of new bosses or a new batch of throwback bosses, and shoehorned in a pointless emphasis on collecting fucktons of coins (an aspect that would be appropriate for Wario, and nowhere near Mario). Didn't help that NSMBU came out less than four months later, reusing NSMBWii assets wholesale AGAIN and reusing the Koopalings AGAIN. NSMB2 and NSMBU failed to be worthy sequels to the same degree NSMBWii was to NSMBDS.
all of these except mania, but even then mania was soulless for reusing levels
what a fucking goddamn scam amiibo festival was holy shit
crazy how all but two of these games came out in the past 10 years
needs a LOT more yoshi/kirby games
aw I liked Masters of Disguise
And Ganker has shilled all of these games at some point. They just HAVE to reinforce that online cultural Nintendo monopoly at all times.
Anything from Pokemon.
fucking hell
the 3ds was a slopfest
>Kid Icarus
There are no original Kid Icarus fans.
literally japan
How is dual destinies any worse than the first 3 AA games?
Athena and Phoenix hijacking what should have been Apollo's second game
2007 was when Nintendo had all of the soul sucked out of them.
>Ki: U
what the fuck? explain.
Myths and Monsters is the best game in the series. Uprising's ground sections are okay, but the flgiht sections are absolutely garbage. Replaying them has absolutely no value and amounts to a 4-5 minute cutscene because there's nothing you can do to speed them up by playing well, and the enemies just appear and leave, regardless of if you kill them or not, so the most you can do is... go for points. No one cares about points.
4U is peak MonHun though? Should've used Generations.
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe really that bad? I played it awhile ago and it didn't seem bad at all, very close to the classic 2D SMB titles with a few advances. Maybe it got worse in time but the few levels I played seemed pretty solid. I've heard conflicting things about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury though, but most lean to the side of it being good, somewhere between the 2D level based and the 3D open world style.
>games so soulless that it was completely outsourced by a third party company so that Gamefreak can work on a better game
BDSP was a mistake.
