even though we're still on more powerful hardware than ever hitting that 1080/60 still seems fricking impossible for most developers. was chasing that last 10% of photorealism really worth it when it runs like ass and looks like blurry shit?

1080@60 is piss easy for any upper end GPU and even for PS/Xbox, the issue is 1440p and 4k which are meme resolutions that everyone loves because casualgays refuse to play on a normal screen and instead want a big normalBlack person TV. That's why in the year of 2024 console apes still get 30fps and not even a consistant 1440p kek

I think that there are five or six games out of my 300+ steam library that don't work on the Steam Deck. It depends on how much people want to play it, Baldurs Gate 3 and Cyberpunk run fine even though they're ~30FPS with low graphics presets but Grandia II and Final Fantasy IV won't run for me.

I will say that in general you'd be surprised at how flawless it is. It mostly just werks. The worst thing about the Steam Deck is probably the screen, it's shit for tiny text and it's kind of washed out compared to anything AMOLED.

I also put in about half my steam deck playtime on the couch with a ps4 controller.

I have used Linux for 2 years, only last month did I finally become free

those were the worst years in my technological life, what a fricking mess of a distro, it is literally the distro for normalgays who go to college instead of just getting a job like a true chill guy, you have to look EVERYTHING up, you want to run Yume 2kki? oh wine doesnt do it, ok, so you wanna install easyrpg? oops, doesnt work, install this locale that you have to run through the terminal instead of just right clicking, oh,, it works now? well, it wont work the next time you try fixing another game with wine

Steam's proton works with most games, yes, but do I REALLY need to fricking open steam just to play some dumb doujinsoft game? yes you do, because linux

wanna screenshare anime, movies or games to your friends on discord? oops, discord screenshare doesnt have audio on linux, oh, there's a fix? good! well, its a fix made by some random guys and it stops working out of nowhere sometimes ruining your plans till they make a fix

I don't want to use linux ever again, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, I used Mint btw

some games flat out dont work even with proton btw, Daibanchou: Big Bang Age has the text cut off, and its such a niche game if you try to look up fixes you simply wont find it

tl;dr, if you're an actual gamer, never use linux ever, if you have friends, never use linux ever, if you're not a fricking nerd, don't use linux, you're going to waste your time and be mad weekly

The problem being the install was old and obsolete, didnt work at all and it was a different version from the superior version found on the /jp/ general that includes all seasons

anyways, I got it working with steam proton's later, using the /jp/ version, Lutris is ass and wine doesnt work properly most of the time

Biggest mistake people made is going for some popular meme distro that youtubers tell them about.
        >dude Mint because it looks like Windows nevermind that the dev is an unstable schizo who can't take any form of criticism
        >dude PopOS it's basically the new Ubuntu just ignore the fact that it takes ages to get packages which is kinda important for gaming
Your average Youtuber doesn't know what you want - so they just recommend the most basic b***h Linux distros and say they are easy to use. But that ease of use actually makes it harder to work with them for people who wanna play videogames.

Arch? Hasn't been the neckbeard distro for ages - It's as braindead easy to install and setup as any other big distro.
And even if you hate Arch for some reason. There are still other rolling release distros like openSUSE TW - one that is actually maintained and tested by a professional company rather than the community or a single individual.
But that one never gets recommended for some reason.

Mint works fine, I've been using it for 4 years (on and off) now and each year that passes I have less problems with it as I learn how to maintain it and what to expect from it. It's not perfect but for some fricking reason everyone thinks that a distro needs to actually be "perfect", as if any other OS on the planet lacks problems of their own.

What I've learned is that people just learned to ignore Windows and Mac problems for example, because they've grown used to them being the only players on the block so it's either them or nothing. Now that Linux distros have reached a point where they are good enough for 90% of people they can afford to be picky but that creates the problem of people never spending the time to LEARN how to use their OS and instead they just jump around blindly until they give up.

It's like a fricking microcosm of the same mentality that is fricking up western society today but it's about software instead of life

Because arch is pretty much objectively the best distro for desktop use. But everyone hypes it up as this scary boogeyman and then newbies don't want to touch it, they'd rather use something like manjaro which is just arch but 10x as unstable.

This image is pretty outdate, with archinstall being a thing and really easy to use now, Arch is barely a notch "harder" than any other distro. Arch has been my main OS for years and I consider myself quite tech illiterate and I've had no issues.

Yeah it's from like, 16 years ago, but from what I've seen, Arch users are still insufferable. I remember when everyone and their mother praises rc.conf for being so easy, and then when the devs neutered it for some bullshit reason, every motherfricker out there immediately went "Yeah, rc.conf always sucked". I checked into Arch a few weeks ago and see that the devs are still too lazy too create even an ncurses installer for the system again.

truth. i'm on my 3rd year (Mint as well) and I'm going back to Windows after I backup my home folder.

Linux for the most part worked fine but there are too many minor issues that just added up and made using it a fricking pain in the ass especially when i wasn't in the mood to tinker. I'll keep Linux on a backup PC but otherwise I'll stick to Windows, I already have all the de-bloat shit I need anyway because I still had to have a Windows VM for work and old games that Linux couldn't run.

Yes, but also a lot of so called "linux experts" keep recommending it and perpetuating the disgusting joke that it's good and "beginner" friendly.

Because it's a beginner distro in a way that its very similar to Windows. There is no big Linux knowhow required to have it "work" but if you try anything that isn't watching a video or browsing the internet you are out of luck.

        >Steamdeck runs on SteamOS which is just Arch

      >2 years
You're a moron for using something that you admit doesn't work to your use case (playing RPGmaker/jap games) for two years. A week or two, or even a month, sure. But two years for a personal computer, a GAMING personal computer? Why the frick did you do that besides chasing trends?

Always do the opposite Ganker tells you, if they say a game is bad you should probably try it since its probably good, if they say a game is good then don't even bother playing it

Just use critical thinking. It's not that hard. Read a post for their arguments for a point, their biases, why they reached that point and connect it to what you want out of a game. E.g. if I see someone sucking off COD for the gunplay and multiplayer, I know it's not for me cause they're golem zoomers. If I see someone talk about level design in depth for a game, the game's probably good because level design is a forgotten aspect in game discussion.

used it for like a year, didnt like it, switched back to windows

used windows till it was practically being held up by sticks and glue, said ok thats enough, I'll go back to mint (start of 2023)

mint ran faster, but still made me want to kill myself

It's just hipster/college cred. Plus, it allows them to engage in some soft conspiracy theorizing by saying they are spied on, since this same kind of people are also white knights for israelites, NATO and vaccines on twitter, and they really have to force themselves to act as if conspiracy theories don't exist.

To be fair to linux trans women, they do manage an impressive job when you consider it's a failed commie project without any funding, no telemetry, and no way of attracting talented devs, no structured hierarchy, a bunch of fragmentation, no direction, etc. You have to keep in mind that they are competing against likes of Microsoft which is the largest company in the world, with a market cap of $2.95 trillion, and that has approximately 221.000 employees all working under one direction and goal/standards. It's just not fair

I really doubt you even understand Linux at any non-superficial level.
Windows is easy for regular users but harder if you want to customize it or use it in industry. Linux is slightly harder for regular users and slightly easier for customization and industry. Knowing Windows in-depth requires more from you than knowing Linux. You can play with strings and cutely named commands in bash but you will get completely filtered by Powershell.

      >Wasn't click and play when I tried using it to run rose guns days that's for sure
That's an onscripter game, you don't need wine/proton to play it, just put the native runner in the folder.

A friend of mine runs Mint, and every single time we've ever tried to play a game together, there's some stupid shit with his PC that gets in the way. Elden Ring Seamless Co-op? Nope. And there's no leads on Google. He couldn't even run Worms for fricks sake.

You see, he isn't a computer scientist. Far from it. I think a lot of people who want to try Linux don't know a thing about what a computer ACTUALLY is. My question is why? Why install Linux, if all you want to do is play games? It's only going to get in the way. These kinds of Linux users, it doesn't seem like they give a shit about whatever benefits Linux COULD bring. I really think most people install it just because someone else told them too, and they blindly accepted it was a good idea without putting in the effort to learn about it, despite it clearly not being something that works out of the box all the time.

System Shock Remake for one. My friend bought it and still can't play it, but swears it'll get patched. Actual fricking cope.

      >A friend of mine runs Mint
Yeah, for some reason (dated libraries maybe?) Mint tend to have more problems compared to other distros.

Is a Steam Deck still good for retro gaming? (Up to ps2?)

There are good FOSS programs to be fair, 7-Zip and qBittorrent come to mind that just mogg the shit out of Winrar and uTorrent. But where FOSS excels is usually at smaller programs where a few people can properly manage them and keep up with the corpos. OS nowadays are just way too complex and integrated for small ngo organizations like linux distros to keep up with trillions of dollars, 200K employees and billions of people giving telemetry

Why is linux so popular in India? It's literally the only country in the entire world that has a usage share larger than 10%. Is linux just india? Considering there's 1.5 billion indians, 10-15% of that means there's like at least 200 million indians using linux. Wouldn't that make it so that there are more indians using linux than the rest of the world combined? Holy fricking based.

Also: India might have over a billion people but out of those billion you can bet your ass that not even 100 million are using a PC in a way - The vast majority of indias are poor rural farmers and street shitters. They might have a phone these days but thats about it.

I switched to Linux back when Vista launched and turned out to be a pile of shit. If you think it's bad now, you should've seen it back in 2006. The advancements Linux has made on the desktop since then are incredibly impressive, and honestly most people don't need to be on Windows anymore at all. The only time it makes sense to use Windows now is in extremely specific single program instances. Discord screenshare with audio works fine on my machine btw.

Having used Mint, it's amazing how many features it has for a FOSS OS. Same for FOSS programs written by volunteers.
But it cannot compete with Windows, which is backed by a huge company, nor with the compatibility of software there.
Its only advantage is being free and letting you access and modify the code to make your own OS.

As far as gameplay goes Engage is great. Especially if you love trying out different character builds.

The story is easily one of the worst though. Making this an anniversary title was a mistake - Way too many characters so no one gets the time they need to actually be interesting and the premise in itself is as generic as it can be.

Interestingly, your "suggestion" also falls into the category you are trying to describe. As in, people shouldn't listen to you.
When I find recommendation threads, I often give genuine opinion and the best possible games I think the OP might be looking for with regards to their requirements. Sure not all of them might be something they like, but if anyone thinks ALL of them MUST be the perfect game they will enjoy then they are naive morons. Just try them all out and see which one clicks.

The only hard thing about Linux piracy is pirating Linux builds cause they are way less popular than the Windows versions. But the vast majority of those are badly maintained and people on Linux rarely use them in the first place. Proton and Wine these days are so good people just run the Windows version instead.
And you can easily pirate those and just run them through your preferred setting.

I wouldn't know, I never asked, but I highly doubt he'd even set that up. Again, this is someone that tried selling me on Mint for being "basically just better Windows", but seemingly being incapable of troubleshooting anything if there isn't a solution on Google.

It has a lot of great qualities but until compatibility with Windows shit is at literally 100% I will never use it, simple as. As of right now it's pretty much only good for really old and outdated hardware that needs as many resources freed up as possible to even function.

NTA but in my country we've got digital IDs and the application(s) that is needed to check if it's valid or not does NOT run under linux (even though it used to, the government just doesn't want to maintain a "public" linux version) or any basic form of VM, so you either need to have a dual boot for windows/mac (lmao), spend an ungodly amount of time setting up a flawless VM that breaks every update or you need an iphone or android 12 (or later) phone.

I wouldn't give a shit if said ID wasn't necessary for 99% of online banking, schooling, working or any governmental institution. Without it you'll need to travel directly to the physical place that provides these services and there are usually only a very small amount of these places and they have barely any staff working which means that you'd have to spend an entire day doing something that the digital ID stuff could have got done for you in 2 min or less. You either let big-tech steal your info/frick with your digital security or you spend 10x more effort on getting it done, there is no in between because most of the political elites are all tech-illiterate morons

            >Why?
Because they are paper pushing morons. I have nothing against the digital ID system itself since it's a extremely efficient and very practical way to handle this shit online, it's that the people maintaining it are dumb/only want to do the bare minimum.

They've sort of "fixed" the issue by allowing users to "download" an encrypted file that they can store on any device and then just upload instead of using the application, but these files only lasts a maximum of 12 mont before you need to get a new one and you instead need to use a web app in conjunction with it to authenticate yourself. If it wasn't for the 12 month time limit on said file, I would be using that instead of their android app

The digital ID is an actual, legally legitimate, government/bank issued ID that only works in my home country of Swedistan.

It's really convenient and would be very good if my government wasn't so ass backwards on its development, it's actually a safer way to handle my ID even since it's a 2/3-way authentication system that only allows the the people I give specific consent to too view ANY of my personal information. This makes ID theft much harder since the only way anyone would ever be able to gain access to it is if I allow them too by writing/giving them a personal pin number and if they go through my banks own security checks. I still have a physical ID for obvious reasons but that can be stolen/copied physically while my digital ID can't unless they force their way through two (or three, not sure how the governments internal systems handles it) security factors.

                >inb4 lmao, this moron trusts his government boomers
Not really, but I already need a social security number and a valid ID to be considered a citizen anyway so this is just a more secure and practical version of it

                Anonymous

Ah, you were talking about Sweden. Yeah, I know how convenient it is here. It's supposed to work on anything 6+ though from what I can find, even if the "targeted version"(whatever the frick that means) is 12+. I don't know, my phone doesn't even have that. It makes calls.

                Anonymous

                >It makes calls
I used to have a dumb phone, but I got my current android in 2019ish when said ID system was so prevalent that it was hard to ignore. My battery is starting to die though and I dread having to pick out a new phone since my current one is just a slab of glass/metal that is impossible to open without breaking it. The one I have now is perfect for me and I can play Double Dash on it while I'm travelling by train. Finding a new phone that can fill in for my old one at a decent price will be hard if I don't want a phone plan

DXVK is linux, you literally have to emulate another OS to use Vilkan on your office OS

        Anonymous

It would be extremely embarrassing for Microsoft if native DX11 was slower than some freetard's emulated version of DX11 on top of Vulkan.

          Anonymous

DirectX 12 beats Vulkan in every single modern game. DirectX 11 is a 50/50, and Vulkan is not a linux thing. It's only DirectX 9 that gets mogged by Vulkan, but every windows user can just use DXVK just like linux trannies do. There's literally nothing that linux does better than windows when it comes to gaming, because every single game is built for PC (Windows), not for servers (Linux). You are always just adding overhead and trying to somehow make a tinkering mess that barely functions by trying to pretend to be windows.

            Anonymous

            >You are always just adding overhead and trying to somehow make a tinkering mess that barely functions by trying to pretend to be windows.
So why is DXVK faster in this case than just using DX11? The game is still using the same DX11 renderer and DXVK should just add overhead.

              Anonymous

If the DX9/11 implementation/port is poorly done then you benefit by using DXVK, because you are not actually using pure DX then. One of the popular games that has massive FPS improvements when using it is GTA 4, where you can see Windows and Linux perform much better when done with translations because Rockstar fricked up the port.

                Anonymous

Sounds like DXVK is a better implementation of DirectX than DirectX itself.

          Anonymous

And? Why should I care about that? What does that have to do with anything I said?
If you're trying to compare windows and linux performance, and use dxvk(which works on both) on only one side, then that's not a very good comparison. Not of windows vs linux, and not even of dxvk vs dx11, since you could just run both on windows and remove the only confounding factor right away. It's a dumb picture. Posted by a dumb person.

You know, I'm honestly curious, what exactly do you guys want to accomplish ritual posting day in and day out about how linux totally doesn't work and actually makes your computer make mustard gas?
Do you think maybe the ~400,000 people (give or take, they're probably less likely to answer a hardware survey) using it any given time on steam are just going to magically decide not to?

They don't do it to convince Linuxgays. They do it to get less people to check out Linux.
People are less likely to try it when all they hear is people constantly whining about it.
Same with Nvidia shills and them saying that buying AMD GPUs results in constant green screens and other fatal errors.

So why does microsoft so desperately shill here?

      Anonymous

Because Steam making Linux a viable option could stop their desired takeover of the PC space.
On Windows only Microsoft could simply frick over Steam with a single update
      >oh yeah we needed to push out this security update - one side effect is that Steam no longer boots - we apologize for the inconvenience but this update was definitely needed there was no way around it
Do that a million times and you see how MS got the biggest marketshare with Internet explorer initially or protection software like Windows own Defender.
But if Steam makes Linux gaming work people could just give MS the finger and keep their Steam library that way. I am sure more than enough people would rather switch the OS than abandoning the Steam account they have been using for over 10 years

        >or protection software like Windows own Defender.
As much as I don't like Windows, Defender (MSE before it got integrated) was just plain better than the average free antivirus which were usually more like malware themselves. They didn't need to play dirty to win that one.

          Anonymous

Even if they didn't NEED to play dirty they still did. They kept fricking up other antivirus software and then just went "Yeah, just use Defender if you want a stable antivirus"
My dad has been using Norton for ages - which was always shit - but after he upgraded to Windows 10 they fricked with it so much he had to reinstall his entire OS to fix it.

Anti-viruses were a must have in XP/7 days, hell even in 8/8.1 practically everyone should at least have Malwarebytes. But from 10/11 Defender has become genuinely the best AV for windows, most lightweight, has best customization, and most accurate catch rate. Surprisingly it's also based because it doesn't really flag any safe cracked games with the exception of Empress cracks.

Half of mod managers for big games don't work on linux, many multiplayer games that have launchers outside of steam don't work at all, piracy is a pain in the ass since lutris is garbage and proton is iffy, for example pirating GOG games and running through steam with proton usually causes major incosistencies and issues, like DA2 launcher bugging out and not working at all. Performance is way too inconsistent, some games like CS2 will get literally 50% performance loss no matter what compared to windows which is just not acceptable for any sane person who wants best performance from their hardware, frame times in general feel worse than a debloated windows install due to vulkan reliance on linux. You morons really need to get it through your thick khv incel heads that not everyone is out to get you and that linux has actual problems.

                >steam will stop supporting W10 soon
To be fair, I have a laptop that's still running W7 and steam still works perfectly. The only difference is that there's a big orange message at the top right in the client that's the "Steam will stop working" countdown that's stuck on 0 days. Granted, I didn't try out features like the marketplace or forums so I can't comment on full capabilities compared to ""supported"" windows versions.
                >general games will stop allowing you to run them if you are not specific meme version
Well I overwhelmingly play single-player games so I'm not particularly threatened by this problem, but I would agree that this could be an issue if someone wants to play multiplayer games a lot.
                >Starfield for example already has issues with the latest LTSC of W10 since it wants 22H2
My personal criticism of Starfield aside, it worked on my machine. Although I pirated the game so I don't know how accurate my assessment is.

      >linux
Sure you have to tinker with it a bit, but once you make it work it's going to keep working until the sun implodes (unless you change something big).
      >windows
Also the OS is literally getting strangled by being full of spyware and bloatware. The resources a bloated/debloated windows use is EXTREMELY noticable. Which you can remove manually with some tinkering but at that point you are doing the exact same thing as you would do on linux.

The QRD is that a lot of windows users are blind enough to not notice that they have already tinkered with their windows a lot with things like drivers, installing dotnet and stuff like that, which is perfectly equivalent to tinkering on linux. Except when they have to tinker on linux, they often throw a fit because "it's complicated!!" when in reality it's the same shit they do on windows with the only difference that they are now in an unfamiliar enviroment.

According to freetards this just means proprietary software in general. You can monitor network packets right? You can disable telemetry on Windows and see for yourself. And people can see what programs are doing even without access to source code; it's called knowing assembly and reverse engineering. This is exactly what was done with Intel ME that Ganker still schizoposts about.
        >bloatware
Linux is bloatware compared to menuetOS.

          >You can monitor network packets right? You can disable telemetry on Windows and see for yourself. And people can see what programs are doing even without access to source code; it's called knowing assembly and reverse engineering.
This is all true, which is why I mentioned that people also tinker on windows but for some weird reason a lot of users are only put off by the new enviroment rather than the work you have to put in. My main PC is Win10 tinkered to hell and beyond which I had to work on more than what I spent building up my arch laptop.
          >Linux is bloatware compared to menuetOS.
Now that's an OS I have not heard in a long time. This is also true but this is all relative. One could argue that everything is spyware unless you use TempleOS unironically, but at that point we would be just trying to one-up eachother for no sane reason.
          >Windows tinkering is like chiseling away at a whole rock to make a fine statue. Linux tinkering is like gluing together rocks.
That's also more-or-less a good analogy. Although I would add that in case of newer windows machines that rock is a room sized block you want to chisel away.
If you want a really small statue, you're better off just gluing rocks together instead of trying to carve it out of a 3 meter tall marble block.

            Anonymous

            >If you want a really small statue
Well, operating systems are by their nature "huge statues" if they aren't just toys to play with basic command line programs. Even to play video games i.e. software toys, the OS itself needs to be more than a toy. The simple fact of the matter is that you cannot expect even a small community of people to glue together something like an operating system. It has to be has to have definite and clear design from the top-down. This is better done by companies working for profit motive but even the better linux distros or other oses have been made by "benevolent dictators for life".

To improve my analogy, the tinkering the windows user does is more like chiseling away imperfections from a solid statue that was already made from microsoft. Microsoft started with the whole rock and designed Windows. Whereas Linux is a glued together statue, where people carved a bunch a small rocks until they have the right shape roughly fit together. And they will fight on which rocks get included.

          >or a poser, who probably hasn't even launched half of those games

I played RDR, Demon's Souls and Drakengard that way last year. That's about it for now. Most games i wanted over the years got PC ports down the line anyway
        >Risen
Risen 2 somehow became a generic pirate story and instead of one giant island you have many smaller islands to visit - Also no factions just a decision between voodoo or guns - Game is okay if you ignore the combat which is ass.
Risen 3 brought back factions but the game is mostly just fanservice for PB games enjoyers. Lots of references to Risen 1, Risen 2 and the Gothic games. New MC this time and the plot with his soul getting stolen is super dumb. Still the second best game in the series though and better than the ELEX titles in my opinion.

That's half the fun in RPGs for me. Even if Gothic's combat was ass, it was an enjoyable jank learning how it works. Is it ass in that sense, or is it just bad all around?

You are forced to constantly roll around. If you think people are shitposting about Dark Souls 3 being a rollfest you haven't seen anything yet. That and your attacks are just spamming clicks. Super braindead. It's obvious that this was their very first attempt to design combat around a controller.
In Risen 3 you can atleast go magic and avoid most of that shit but Risen 2 only really let's you use limited voodoo stuff if you pick that or guns - which are pretty limited.

Jesus damn, I liked gothic 1 combat but spamming clicks is shite.

Reposting results from my tests moving from Win 10 to Linux. I've found that most well optimised games, and games which usually have issues with Windows compatibility run much better on Linux.

BO3 didn't work due to an issue with integrated graphics. Overall using Linux I've found performs much better than Windows but it's a bit more of a hassle to set things up. Basically all of my Steam games work, and you can just add non-Steam games to steam to use proton if you want.

This entire thread is a mess of people calling everyone else trannies so if any of you would like to know anything else about my findings just ask.

The "community" is the worst aspect of Linux. I've only tolerated using Linux up to this point because I am the type of person who likes knowing exactly what the computer is doing, but asking fellow linuxgays is the last fricking thing I would do. You have to take anything they say with a grain of salt because they are ideologically driven to sugarcoat, oversimplify or outright lie to get you to use it or keep using it. Free software, "Unix philosophy", even the communities around certain projects like Wayland, they are geniune cults. Linuxgays are just condescending as frick.

how hard is it to make something like windows without all the bullshit they're trying to force in

      Anonymous

Very hard? There's a reason why linux or bsd or mac or chromeos can't do even 50% of the basic daily use shit that windows pulls off. Windows is PC, microsoft has been shilling insane money and developers into it for like 30 years. And one of the main reasons it's gotten as good as it is, is exactly because of telemetry. It's a positive loop, the more telemetry you have and more users you have the easier it is to make a better product that benefits everyone.

I tried Linux when I had a 2080S and yes, some of the games gained 20fps more. But I bought a 7900 xtx and a new Ryzen 3D CPU and now it doesn't matter. It's amazing everywhere. Linux is an "OS" designed for poor people, with shitty laptops that use 2 GB RAM. Try the pill of stopping being poor or saving to buy high end hardware and it won't matter if it's Windows or Linux, the game will go at more than 200 fps in 1440p all in ultra.

Linuxgays have boomer-tier trustworthiness. Maybe that's why they always bring up how Linux has "no viruses" like anyone with common sense gets them anymore.
You are actually moronic that you copy strange commands off the internet. Even if 99% of the time it isn't malicious, you don't know what it may change in the background that you can't simply revert without knowing a different command. And there is almost always troubleshooting information for windows whereas you are lucky to find information for linux about non-normalgay native windows games that isn't outdated. And you still do need windows troubleshooting information; do you really not know that Wine also has regedit?

Oh no. Imagine how many evil virus i could get by telling my terminal to install firefox for me.

Opposed to being a Wintoddler and using the browser like a normal person. All i have to do is find the right site for the download or else i might accidentally install a million malware browser addons and completely brick my settings.

          Anonymous

You said copy commands. Do you really need to copy sudo apt-get install firefox? If you know what commands to use, then you don't need to copy them. You wouldn't need to look up information in the first place. The issue is with non-trivial commands that linuxtards will blindly copy without understanding what they actually do.
          >i might accidentally install a million malware browser addons and completely brick my settings.

And the proton and wine options there.
Neither of which can even install the fricking cracked games because it CANT UPACK THEM LAMO!
And the ones that don't need unpacking are broken half the time or have massive suttering or 30% of windows performance.

The games that work on linux either just work out of the box with no issues. OR are a ABSOULTE broken nightmare and unplayable.
There is almost no in between.

Linux cannot by itself unpack SHIT.

You can just imagine them irl sitting at their desk lecturing about the benefits of linux, "works on my machine" and in the same breath try to casually ignore the game crashing in front of you. Frick contrarians.

its honestly one of the biggest fricking trolls I'v fallen for this decade.
There is many issues and if you bring them up they just blame YOU, as if it's your responsibility to fix linux to run games. I'm here to play video games not FRICKING CODE YOU MONKEYS!

The reason why I like to use Bottles is that Bottles creates ONE single Windows C: Drive instance where you can install all your games into. Lutris for example creates a C: Drive for every single fricking game. With Bottles you just do the following to install a cracked game:

            >1. Download the game
            >2. Go to bottles, click "run executable"
            >3. Choose the .exe
            >4. Install it
            >5. press play

It's even possible to play cracked games via multiplayer with the Spacewar crack as long as you also install Steam via Bottles and you start Steam before you start the game.

okay you seem sane. How is bottles different from Heroic games launcher?

Most of the time, I will be lucky to find 1 working, seeded version and most of the time it isn't a GOG variant.

the game itself doesn't matter. what matters is that many cracked games, like codex for example can't be installed on linux because of this shit.
The only "pirated" games I could get to work is fricking GOG variants.
So any DRM game literally is unplayable.
Linux is literally the strongest DRM measure I'v ever encountered.

On proton GE it shows loading on a black screen, then the game crashes.
On wine GE, it plays some sounds of what I assume are intro cutscenes, but it just shows a black screen and nothing happens.

To be honest, I have never used Heroic games launcher because after using Bottles I bothered to try out anything else.
For your unpacking problems: I had the same problems unpacking .iso files.
I use 7zip to solve this.
I'm sure there is a graphical user interface for this but I like to use the terminal.
After installing 7zip you just type in:
              >7z x (name of the file)
Your files will be extracted without any problems.

You can just imagine them irl sitting at their desk lecturing about the benefits of linux, "works on my machine" and in the same breath try to casually ignore the game crashing in front of you. Frick contrarians.

No you do not have freedom. You cannot mod games because mod managers are for windows. You cannot pirate because you have to rely on launchers and can't just double click stuff. You cannot run games without relying on windows runtimes and emulating them. You cannot play games that you'd like because they won't let you. Linux users are cucks in sheds that watch the bulls. on new years i accidentally moved my desktop to a different folder which completely fricked everything up since it automatically created a new empty desktop folder that I couldnt delete or merge and i had to spend like 2 hours to figure out i had to write a fricking command in the terminal to fix it

    I work in Cybersecurity.
My entire fricking job is centered around using various security-oriented Linux distros.
I don't use Linux for gaming or even general computing at home.
I never have and never will.
Because Linux is ass for more broad, general tasks.

I would too I was stuck using schizo distros. Try using a real version of linux, like Arch or Debian.

Black folk just find ways to keep using windows 7 or if you cave, get enterprise 10 (11 is NOT worth beta testing. I know I use it for work, the only feature I liked was windows z)
If you're gonna use it for games, you're just gonna get a bunch of technical issues because you're a newbie to linux.

For a lot of things, I find I have a much smoother, less obsfucated, and simpler experience on linux. Gaming/general computer use/database work/ and general programming are all really pleasent on linux. Game development is not though.

      CoreCtrl

        Anonymous

There's CoreCtrl for power, voltage and fan control, AFAIK doesn't fully work for 7xxx yet. No idea what else your program can do.

Cool, still seems very limited though. Like it only lets you touch core voltage and core/mem frequency. On MPT it lets you touch SoC voltage, SoC clocks, DPM states, Feature Controls like Deep Sleep, and more way beyond the VBIOS limits. Seems if you want that on Linux you have to get really dirty with messing with the GPU itself while on Windows it's just a GUI and reboot.

          Anonymous

On linux it's done live, no reboot required, you can switch profiles on the fly.
          >DPM states
Like powersave/compute/3d etc.? It can do that.

I'm using epic launcher on both the proton and wine. As described.
Currently trying the bottles. The issue with that is the installer doesn't automatically copy the codex files, the option is not there.

            Anonymous

This is how my installer looks when I start the .exe with bottles. I basically just chose the file path and to copy contents of codex directory to installdir.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with epic launcher

Additionally, don't make a "custom bottle" you have to check ALL options by yourself such as using dedicated graphics, which dxvk you'll be using etc.
Make a "Gaming" bottle. Everything will be set for you by default

      literally all I get is

well, I think I got the install down.
But the game doesn't work itself.
On proton GE it shows loading on a black screen, then the game crashes.
On wine GE, it plays some sounds of what I assume are intro cutscenes, but it just shows a black screen and nothing happens.

Not him but learn to produce a log and check it for missing .so files, you may be missing some system dependency. Looking for concrete errors is more productive than saying "it doesn't work".
