ITT. UNIQUE GAMES.
Games that are TRULY unique, could it be because of a very unique mechanic, groundbreaking storytelling, twists that completely change the game, Rarely seen combination of genres or mechanics, or are simply just too bizarre to be copied without being a flat out clone.

The Uniquest Game of 2023
But anon, that's not a game.
If Yume Nikki is a game then Slay the Princess is a game
at least you walk on yume nikki? interact with certain things to cause certain things to happen.
slay the princess is just a visual novel.
I loved Slay the Princess, but it was very clearly a VN that did an excellent job of it and not something unique
Rain World
that one lidar game that i dont know the name of
Mischief Makers - I don't think it's one particular element that makes it stick out, but the combination of what it is truly makes it a unique experience
Rez/Child of Eden - I'd love to play any other games like these if there are any
Mischief Makers is Goated, it kind of reminds me of Klonoa 2 in a way.
Return of the Obra dinn
>Rez/Child of Eden - I'd love to play any other games like these if there are any
Tetris Effect
Scanner Sombre?
Nothing but block puzzles but it's actually fun as frick
And Kula World, although now that I looked it up it seems like it actually has a bunch of clones. Oh yeah and that previous one is Devil Dice in case someone doesn't recognize it
>Vib Ribbon
>LSD
>JSR/JSRF
>Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing
The first Ittle Dew game is so fiendishly clever and oozes with so much passion that I don't think anything will ever capture the experience it gives again. The puzzle design where you can beat the game with any two of the three tools and the puzzles are all solved in different ways depending on what you bring is so clever that I don't even know how they did it. It feels like the kind of thing that would require 200 IQ to design.
Kingdom of Loathing has like 21 years of development behind it and ascension strategy is so insanely complex that computer programs that try to optimize the game have trouble with it. It did the live event thing decades before Fortnite, is the earliest example of an asynchronous MMO that I can think of, and has so. much. dialogue. I think the number of written jokes simply has to be longer than most novels. I would bet that out of all people in all of history the KoL devs are at least in the top 100 for number of jokes written. The game is a living relic with enough depth that it is hard to even comprehend it once you begin to look beyond its innocent appearance.
Pokémon Red/Blue when it was originally a phenomenon in the late nineties
I remember i once played an indie game where you are in space and control a dude that has a gun that can make clones of the user where you are aiming, is a 2d platformer with puzzles elements, the idea is that you kill the original you and the clone of you is another person, it reminds me a lot of SOMA general plot, i dont remember much else about it.
Dont remember the name of the game though.
the swapper?
I would say that Furi, Katana Zero, and VA-11 Hall-A deserve to be mentioned.
Furi and Katana Zero might be a bit too conventional to be unique but VA-11 Hall-A is only really like itself.
None of those games do anything particularly out of the ordinary
Braid has time rewind mechanics that tie nicely to the plot and twist at the end.
Yeah, that was it.
>Vallhalla invented characters having conversations
There's this game called Echo where the enemies only do things they've seen you do:
Journey was rather unique but it relies on a gimmick that either enhances or detracts from the experience
Pathologic 1&2 really are one of a kind. Endless amount of good quotes in these games.
easy answer death stranding, love that one, but I want to share this one, my favorite fps
based
All these gaymes are so self insistent, holy frick
Braid is just Mario in a suit
At the time, Monster Rancher. Getting your monsters from CDs was a really cool idea back then; I remember digging out my dad's collection and going through each one and cataloguing what was on them.
Also, Patapon.
death stranding
Dungeon Keeper
Noita
Obra Dinn
>Inscryption
Lol, no, deck building roguelikes are a fine a dozen
EVERY NARUTO GAME. BELIEVE IT!
Not sure if it counts since it had sequels that did the same thing, but at the time Pokemon Ranger felt really unique
is the dlc worth it lads
OFC
La mulana
Supraland
speaking of supraland: notpron. it's by the same developer and is entirely website-based, but i'm not sure if it's truly a game in the traditional sense.
Homeworld Cataclysm
Still the only Horror-RTS genre combo in existence
Spiritual successor when
Glover
Ape Escape
Katamari Damacy
Snake Pass.
