        >it's an archetype

Ah yes, the well known archetype of an alien being committing violent and murderous acts in order to return to it's home dimension.

that's just window dressing. he's dracula.

He has nothing in common with Dracula whatsoever.

he's not literally bram stoker's dracula but he is basically a type of "vampire" guy

So we've gone from a supposed archetype to "he's Dracula" to "he's not Dracula but he is like a vampire"

He can't be much of a villain if his desire was strengthened by his anemia, can he?

Such a great character. One of the times where "literally did nothing wrong" meme could apply, depending on how you look at it.

Wasn't he capturing, torturing and mutilating innocent people by the bucketload? I'm pretty sure that's doing something at least a wee bit wrong.

        Anonymous

Yeah, but he was an immortal who was trapped in a world that is not his and wanted to get back to his loved one. I think you can imagine that after some time you would be desperate enough to do the same to get back.

he did but there weren't enough, he started doing it for petty crimes and wrongful convictions and eventually just kidnapping

I think he did at first and later didnt care anymore. I guess you can't say he did nothing wrong, but he's at least sympathetic.

He was banished from that world for being a criminal. Even the people on a higher plain didn't want anything to do with him.

            Anonymous

We dont know that for sure. He could also be unjustly banished.

Considering what he did to his victims, the fact that the universe itself wants him dead, and that Agrippa was a much more moral character from the same realm, it seems likely he really was a horrible person even from his world. We can only guess, but I personally believe he was banished justly.

Um let’s unpack this shall we? He:

      1. Tortured humans.
      2. Tortured animals.
      3. Enslaved and mutilated humans.
      4. Betrayed and enslaved Agrippa.
      5. Betrayed Daniel and left him to be killed by the shadow.

He’s not a good character no matter how you slice it, sweetie.

        >1. Tortured humans.
        They were germans
        >2. Tortured animals.
They could've fled and it was to advance science
        >3. Enslaved and mutilated humans.
        Germans
        >4. Betrayed and enslaved Agrippa.
        German, and betrayed him first
        >5. Betrayed Daniel and left him to be killed by the shadow.
He's a brit and Alexander appeared to be ultimatley unable to really do anything about the shadow

He didn't just align with the power of evil, but also with the power of good. Fel is made out of both light and void, which is why both the titans and the old gods hate Sargeras

Not even taking that game as canon, dont care.
Daniel in TDD talked about seeing impossible geometry and Rebirth had nothing like that at all.
Also the lore of the first game seemed like it had more to do with a mix of magic and science while Rebirth goes straight to sci-fi. I always presumed that Alexander was from a different dimension instead of a different planet. Seems more lame.

He was an alien? How the frick did I miss this? I haven't played Amnesia in years but I would have at least though that information would have stuck, I just thought he was being dick for power or some shit.

you have to pay attention to the environment and read a lot. also i think there's a problem where it's a really absorbing game you want to play all day and by the time you reach the end you're tired and it's hard to understand

      Anonymous

The final bit of the game is him trying to get back to his dimension, it's sci fi as frick. It's a pretty massive part of the story towards the end.

I always thought Frictional had some of the best writers in the business. I felt like everything up until Rebirth had great writing, the true definition of the word "underrated"

      yes, had

      rebirth has a different writer

Thats because Rebirth was written by an outsourced writer. Their original writer doesnt work there anymore.

they're just incredibly immersive games in general. nobody else has that feel. even rebirth still has that feeling aside from the writing

Soma's pretty largely celebrated by everyone as a brilliantly written game. I don't think they had anything at all to do with Machine for Pigs but the writing in that is probably the best of the Amnesia games.

AMFP should have been standalone, the amnesia association just confused expectations. if it weren't for that it would be appreciated for what it is
