Depends on the game. Some are almost timeless, but even they could be improved with modern features. And a lot of old games are just shit but we forgave them because we didn't know any better.

I would agree that this does apply to some games but there are definitely exceptions. classic TR is still genuine fun BECAUSE of its tank controls. if anything, had classic TR had "modern" dual stick controls it would be less interesting to replay nowadays.

Artificial exploration sounds like it could be a good one. A lot of modern games have this shit. In older games if you could explore there was a reasonable chance you could find some sort of hidden treasure that was meaningful to gameplay like a new weapon, which encouraged you to go off the path to explore. Nowadays games dump you in a hallway, but it's actually a giant circle with a hallway in it and if you veer off the hallway too much you find something that doesn't matter (crafting materials that aren't fun, some forced collectable for some homosexual achievement, dead end, a regular enemy, etc) and you find it and you go back to the hallway.
