experimentals are the worst part of supcom
>Everything from C&C4
Experimentals are one of the worst parts of Supreme Commander. If you want the greatest RTS of all time just take SCFA, take experimentals out, and put good pathfinding in. There, it's done.
micro doesnt exist everything in this game feels like it is moving in tar or playing on 500ms ping, after playing aoe2 and stacraft changing to SupCom seems impossible.
It's called "realistic physical simulation'
Sorry your bombers can't stop while on the air and turn on a dime.
>NOOOOOOOOO I CAN'T asiaticCLICK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
You people genuinely are subhuman, you do realize that right?
stop offending subhumans
>micro doesnt exist
i see you never dodged an artillery shell with your bots. keep being a scrublord
>TFW I have over 1000 hours and have never managed to reliably micro.
I am glad this game lets you que everything up for slowpokes like me.
>hating experimentals
Joyless posts by joyless people
Experimentals are fun-killers, though. You want to see two big armies duke it out? No, frick you, instead it'll just be a few super units.
That's incredibly gay and UEF is my favourite faction specifically because they have a T3 unit that beats the piss out of experimentals.
Perhaps, but I am yet to have more fun than when I have my soul ripper melt away enemy army and then kamikaze straight at the enemy because he brought some anti air
just scout where they're building experimentals and focus on denying that build
or you can rebalance them so that all experimentals suck if not assisted by an escort of normal units, so it's like a carrier defended by a swarm of destroyers cruisers and battleships, but on land because the megacarrier has spider legs and destroyers cruisers and battleships are bots and tanks
The sane solution to that would be game modes. Something RTS games used to have fairly often at some point. Tick a box when starting a game and you get exactly what you want. But what if valued ROI generators won't see all of the content created using the investments on their one and only play session and complain about the game on social media?! The horror!!!
if you want to play a game that's about managing a tiny number of super-units DOTA already exists
>ROI generators
what
Heroes from WBC 2.
but they make irrelevant the entire rest of the gameplay
scenario editor and trigger system from aoe2
Wat.
Did you ever hear about Warcraft 3 and its editor?
Yeah you might be right
Maybe SC2's one would be better but even a kid can use WC3's editor.
To my understanding, "Experimentals" are stalemate-breakers to prevent dragging out the match like crazy. They're more "fun" than deathball setups in the same "niche", and easier to balance around from having fewer variables.
Definitely agree with using WC3's as the "base" for the editor, since you want it as easy to start with as possible. Maybe take queues from Bethesda's editors and community modding tools for functions that don't map cleanly.
Go whole hog and try to make each faction operate like a different popular RTS model altogether, using obnoxiously-autistic performance-deriving systems to extract the EXACT causes of resulting balance problems.
I'd go with having an "official" root for the popular custom map "genres" built into the campaigns, and design the campaign system to easily work for all manner of multi-map gameplay from party games to off-brand MMOs.
...That is literally an example of it. People still play WC3 DOTA, with some truly obnoxious refinements of playstyle like using an engine limitation for I-frames.
frick dude ease up off the quotation marks who the frick are you even quoting?
The term is "scare quotes", where quotation marks are used for emphasis, such as denoting a multi-word subject as used here, or that it's referring to a specific non-standard meaning of the word. It's either these, asterisks, or capitalization. Not that many options for formatting on Ganker.
shut the frick up you autistic moron
"Scare Quotes" go back to the 1950s, they're hardly a newfangled autist thing. The fricking ancient Greeks had the Diple for a similar purpose. Not my fault if your grasp of compromises to denote tone in textual communication is practically vestigial
no one is misunderstanding you. we understand you just fine. that's why we want you to shut up - you're tedious and have nothing insightful or interesting to say.
>no one is misunderstanding you. we understand you just fine.
Given "who the frick are you even quoting?", it seems pretty clear that the nature of the quotation marks was misunderstood.
>that's why we want you to shut up - you're tedious and have nothing insightful or interesting to say.
I'M the one who's worth b***hing at for having nothing to say, as seemingly the only one actually pointing out what a debated feature does that is desirable game design? Not the posts in the thread that just mention something from a game with no explanation of what that is or why it's good?
Dozens of lines of dialogue for each unit ranging from serious to funny.
>unit dialogue gets radio static if they're off screen
>unit dialogue gets terse if you select/order them around in a battle
Easily the most kino part of CoH.
does any newer RTS have this? Fricking hell bros
deserts of kharak goes crazy with the contextual voice acting
Cinematics by Blizzard (North)
Graphics by Blizzard (Heroes of the Storm team from back in their prime)
>Each faction is highly assimetrical and is build arround a gimmick
>Number of playable factions at launch is greater than 3
>Expansions add new factions
>The e-sport scene is left to develop on its own
I really liked Age of Mythology's system.
3 factions, each quite different, but each with 3 sub-factions that are also unique amongst eachother.
I'm really trying to choose a soundtrack but there are too many good ones to choose from
Just tell the genre
Too many good ones within RTS alone
>too many good ones to choose from
Yeah but only one that stands far above them all:
the unit deployment feature from red alert, and also the ability to just spam produce units
Economy from Supreme Commander
Camera from Supreme Commander
Technology system of Supreme Commander
Map size of Supreme Commander
Controls of Supreme Commander
>Economy from Red Alert
>Camera from Homeworld
>Technology system of Red Alert
>Map size of Wargame
>Controls of Red Alert
there, fixed it
Sounds like shit honestly. You know Homeworld's camera for example is literally just a worse version of SupCom's, right?
disagree, homeworld's implementation is superior to supcom's and the tactical map looks cooler
hot commie chicks in boots and a microskirt from Red Alert 3
>RA3 girls
Shit taste detected.
RA2 girls is where it's at.
A bunch of ideas in EndWar warrant a spiritual sequel. The Defcon 1 mechanic, for instance.
INTERPLANETARY WARFARE
>Remove peons, buildings near resources automatically harvest them
unlimited population and single man / vehicle units only, so you can assemble them into their own groups like in Men Of War
Literally TibWars but every single unit is a spidertank (infantry is giant spiders in cute flak vests).
>Perhaps
Unit upgrades from supcom 2
Give lower tier units more relevance as generalists as time goes on while higher tier are specialized
Tactical Aid from World In Conflict
>runner up: Bradley APC from the same game
Dropships from Ground Control 2
heroes and tax collectors from majesty
Sex from Crusader Kings
Total War: Age of Mythology
Stronghold: Total War
Home City from AoE 3
Unit customization like Warzone 2100
Terrain physics and LOS of Wargame.
I really wish they made a Horus Heresy version of Wargame, given the amount of super heavies and engines they had during the war it would have been awesome, although extremely hard to balance.
strategic points from DoW1 for resources instead of economy centric mines/gas/crystals
I'm trying to think of something to implement from DoW, probably my most played rts. is an obvious one, as well as the campaign map and the way that's played from Dark Crusade
For sure, that was such a cool feature of that game, it's definitely in
Bloat does not make the game good
Minimalism doesn't either
Minimalism do give performance, though
Rate my suggestions gays.
>command and conquer gameplay and economy but the vehicles are a bit more realisitc (ie: tanks have machine guns)
>dawn of war squad system
>supreme commander sized scale
>age of empire era tech tree
>hoi4 subideology system
trash everything except hoi4 subideologies
everything great except for the goy4 subideologies
and conquer gameplay
>>dawn of war squad system
They are completely different types of gameplay though and not compatible.
>squads are incompatible with cnc
I only played C&C1 and Red Alert 1 + the expansions. If you're comparing to a new version that deviated from classic C&C then sure, but it's not C&C to me.
>"this is completely different from cnc and incompatible dude"
>one of the major installments in the franchise already has this feature
>"uhhh how should i know? i only played the first two"
You said Command & Conquer gameplay. How am I supposed to know you're referring to the garbage nu-age versions instead of the based classics that everyone else grew up on?
And which Dawn of War squad system are you referring to? The first one or the second one that utilizes the cover mechanic they brought over from Company of Heroes?
>garbage nu-age
>majority of the community loves it and thinks its on par with generals
Just say you don't know what Command and Conquer did instead of this "muh nu-age muh based". It'd be far less embarrassing.
>Just say you don't know what Command and Conquer
I already admitted I don't know anything past the classics you brainlet
It's not that you "don't know", it's that you go on about your extremely limited view of the series and think everything after it is shit. The games that have the largest playerbases and the most mods would fall under your shit tier category too.
Tactical gameplay
supreme commander forged alliance, just add infantry and urban environments
