Experimentals are one of the worst parts of Supreme Commander. If you want the greatest RTS of all time just take SCFA, take experimentals out, and put good pathfinding in. There, it's done.

Experimentals are fun-killers, though. You want to see two big armies duke it out? No, frick you, instead it'll just be a few super units.

That's incredibly gay and UEF is my favourite faction specifically because they have a T3 unit that beats the piss out of experimentals.

        Anonymous

Perhaps, but I am yet to have more fun than when I have my soul ripper melt away enemy army and then kamikaze straight at the enemy because he brought some anti air

        Anonymous

just scout where they're building experimentals and focus on denying that build
or you can rebalance them so that all experimentals suck if not assisted by an escort of normal units, so it's like a carrier defended by a swarm of destroyers cruisers and battleships, but on land because the megacarrier has spider legs and destroyers cruisers and battleships are bots and tanks

The sane solution to that would be game modes. Something RTS games used to have fairly often at some point. Tick a box when starting a game and you get exactly what you want. But what if valued ROI generators won't see all of the content created using the investments on their one and only play session and complain about the game on social media?! The horror!!!

Maybe SC2's one would be better but even a kid can use WC3's editor.

        Anonymous

To my understanding, "Experimentals" are stalemate-breakers to prevent dragging out the match like crazy. They're more "fun" than deathball setups in the same "niche", and easier to balance around from having fewer variables.

Definitely agree with using WC3's as the "base" for the editor, since you want it as easy to start with as possible. Maybe take queues from Bethesda's editors and community modding tools for functions that don't map cleanly.

        >Each faction is highly assimetrical and is build arround a gimmick
        >Number of playable factions at launch is greater than 3
        >Expansions add new factions
        >The e-sport scene is left to develop on its own

Go whole hog and try to make each faction operate like a different popular RTS model altogether, using obnoxiously-autistic performance-deriving systems to extract the EXACT causes of resulting balance problems.

        [...]

But what if valued ROI generators won't see all of the content created using the investments on their one and only play session and complain about the game on social media?! The horror!!!

I'd go with having an "official" root for the popular custom map "genres" built into the campaigns, and design the campaign system to easily work for all manner of multi-map gameplay from party games to off-brand MMOs.

if you want to play a game that's about managing a tiny number of super-units DOTA already exists

...That is literally an example of it. People still play WC3 DOTA, with some truly obnoxious refinements of playstyle like using an engine limitation for I-frames.

            Anonymous

The term is "scare quotes", where quotation marks are used for emphasis, such as denoting a multi-word subject as used here, or that it's referring to a specific non-standard meaning of the word. It's either these, asterisks, or capitalization. Not that many options for formatting on Ganker.

"Scare Quotes" go back to the 1950s, they're hardly a newfangled autist thing. The fricking ancient Greeks had the Diple for a similar purpose. Not my fault if your grasp of compromises to denote tone in textual communication is practically vestigial

Given "who the frick are you even quoting?", it seems pretty clear that the nature of the quotation marks was misunderstood.

                >that's why we want you to shut up - you're tedious and have nothing insightful or interesting to say.
I'M the one who's worth b***hing at for having nothing to say, as seemingly the only one actually pointing out what a debated feature does that is desirable game design? Not the posts in the thread that just mention something from a game with no explanation of what that is or why it's good?

And which Dawn of War squad system are you referring to? The first one or the second one that utilizes the cover mechanic they brought over from Company of Heroes?

It's not that you "don't know", it's that you go on about your extremely limited view of the series and think everything after it is shit. The games that have the largest playerbases and the most mods would fall under your shit tier category too.
