I genuinely like the smaller dex. The first time I played it, it felt like playing pokemon again for the first time. I didn't know any of the new pokemon or what did they did. Their colors were weird so I didn't know their type. I thought blitzel was a dark type because it was black for example. To me it was a genuinely new experience and I will always remember it fondly. I've replayed 2 many times but never 1. I'm okay with that because I will never have that experience again

The story and its characters are better, N's Castle theme is great, credits theme is a banger. The rival and champion are more satisfying for the climax than beating a literal child. It's otherwise a worse game though.

B2W2 was made as a panicked bandage over all the Unova backlash, it also features the shiny charm which marked shinies descent into being meaningless.

it was always planned. nip mons arrived on the shores of unova in the postgame of BW1, not in BW2. two years later they are everywhere

I played them both but im still missing Pikachu.

      ?? it's usable in both

      this, honestly
BW and BW2 are meant to be played together, the flaws of one are fixed by the other, together they form a complete package

    >Better protag designs (Nate and Rosa are fricking ugly)
    >The Dex (liked that they actually had the balls to limit it to just new Pokemon)
    >The flow of the region (was linear but still felt cohesive. B2W2 feels like it goes to other sides of the map just for the sake of it).
B2W2 are definitely better though mainly because the characters don’t stop you nearly as much to give preachy speeches about truth and ideals.

BW stands on its own better and was clearly less rushed than B2W2.
BW managed something that no other game did except gen 1, it created a whole new ecosystem with only its own new pokemon. And it did it better than gen 1 in some sense. Gen 1 only had 15 types, BW had 17 and yet it managed to distribute them better to the point where every type has enough representatives for a playthrough, something that no other game really managed before it since even Platinum kind of lacked dragons and Hoenn lacked ice. BW is what every fakemon rom hack aims to be
Now compare that to B2W2 which spams fan service mons on routes, most of the content it added is fan service too like PWT, gives you free shinies out of nowhere, has reused dialogue despite being a sequel NOT a third version... and has the worst implementation of difficulty settings in pokemon history.
A problem BW had was that important trainers didn't have enough pokemon, because of the limited dex. B2W2 could have fixed that since it has a bigger dex, but it didn't, instead it locked the bigger teams behind a post game locked, version exclusive hard mode that doesn't even work as intended

      >has the worst implementation of difficulty settings in pokemon history

Since's it's the only time pokemon ever had difficulty settings unless you count the hoenn starter pick :^)

i think it comes down to bw2 feeling really haphazard in a lot of ways bw didn't. the story seemed kind of slapped together and aimless, like it wasn't parricularly well thought out. bw has a really strong narrative, like they actually had an idea for what they wanted to do with it and built around that. i've always thought bw2 were considerably weaker in that regard. i also thought the limited pokédex of bw did a fantastic job of selling the idea that unova really was extremely far away from the other regions, and i think adding other pokémon to the dex in bw2 was a massive blow to the region's identity, even if the game was more fun for it. i liked bw2 but i never thought they were better than bw, and honestly seeing the hype around them over the last decade has been incredibly weird to me, because the general consensus seems to be that they were better than bw.
also hilda is so much better than rosa it's not even funny, even at the time i was like "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???"
