I actually don't think so. If they were doing sci-fi Dark Souls, they wouldn't call it Armored Core, it'd have to be some spinoff. Miyazaki has spoken in the past about retaining the core character of each game series. He won't make another King's Field for example unless Naotoshi Jin comes back to lead the team, because that series is his brainchild. They renamed the Tenchu sequel to Sekiro because it changed too much to be a Tenchu game. Turning Armored Core into Dark Souls would be an even bigger departure.

It comes down to if they can balance different playstyles or not, but I am 100% sure that super fast movement will be the standard gameplay approach.

King's Field would be smarter but Miyazaki said they'd only do that if Naotoshi Jin directed and he's a PS1 fossil that there is no reason to expect could direct a huge modern AAA company and soulsgays hate him for Dark Souls 2.

The key thing that is cool about King's Field is starting out unbelievably weak and then hitting milestones that power you up to the point that it changes the game, and then in the endgame you have to fight crazy shit while being an engine of destruction yourself. It is really not at all like souls, it is about the pleasure of RPGs not an action game struggle.
Like in KF2 you start off without any kind of magic, and when you finally get a spell you don't have a way to get more mana beyond one or two irreplaceable consumables. After probably several hours of searching you finally get a way to replenish mana and you can now luxuriously cast spells and it feels good, despite this being something every other game ever lets you do immediately.

Sometimes I fantasize about a mecha/fighter pilot game with an actually deep and intricate story and fleshed out characters but I'm starting to realize it was always an illusion.
Mecha fans don't get a lot of games in general and most of them are gundam fans so it's a slow process. Just give them big robots with big guns that go fast and they'll eat that shit up and ask for more.
