They are. Ganker has their own version of osrs that is good. Honestly hypixel skyblock and wynncraft are not that bad. Elder scrolls is okay not the best, Final Fantasy is also alright. Black Desert is going to shit but still fun.

      >Own version of osrs
? I'm actually playing osrs but you know how it is. Pretty dull game.
It's a damn shame growing up playing all night and sleeping through class failing school playing wow, MapleStory, counter strike, left for dead etc.were the comfiest moments of my life.
Now it's all fricking battle royale games.

Eve is still the only MMO remotely worth playing but it's not exactly in its golden age either.

you play private servers if you want to play good mmo's, try eq and vanilla wow. if you want official servers, there's always guild wars 1 going out for cheap on steam.

    >Thinking about trying FF XIV
You can always just create an account and play the free trial. It goes all the way up to level 60 which covers the entirety of the first expansion. It's pretty much just a story-focused "single player" mmo with some co-op sections. I stopped playing before the new pvp mode but hit the the 24v24v24 one was dogshit. If you like engaging in RP with other players I guess it's the best one out there right now.

i've been on Marlboro for a week as a free trial and i haven't found any RP anywhere 🙁

        about trying FF XIV
XIV is a poorly written single player RPG with MMO components tacked on, basically the worst parts of WoW's design that killed any sense of world or community in that game they designed XIV around

Balmung and Mateus are the big RP servers but it's genuinely one of the worst MMO RP communities i have ever experienced. every flavor of tumblr and twitter cancer, every community resource is run by nepotistic power tripping SJW homosexual. do not recommend it at all.

Any MMOs with an active roleplay community that isn't shit left? Off the top of my head, the only survivor is LotRO. Gw2 was cannibalized by XIV, no idea about ESO but not particularly interested. I know WoW has one, as well as this one RP centric private server, but similarly have no interest. For Private Servers, CoH Homecoming has a small community but it's for that reason getting in is a hassle, cliques have already formed.

ESO has a ton of RP, ERP and rare but often GachiERP. If you see purple text on the chat (/emote chat), that means that there's an RP session happening near you.

            >Any MMOs with an active roleplay community that isn't shit left?
As far as I recall, TESO has a ton of RP of all sorts, it's easy to find them via Guild Finder and filtering the guild list by the Roleplay category.
However, if you're looking for an MMO with porn addons for ERP purposes, XIV might be the game you're looking for (the same can also be applied to PSO2).

That's a damn shame I was led to believe final fantasy was alright.
On another note I've been playing eso and it isn't as bad as I thought. Playing on a PS4 doesnt really do it for me but the combat isn't terrible. Not enough ability slots though.

lotto, swtor and xiv are just reskinned wotlk gameplay-wise. fun games in their own right, but there's no variety if you've already played wow 10 years ago.

    I filtered all memeflags

They are. The only good MMOs are those which aren't released yet. The problem with MMOs is they either die from feature creep or the staff pander to the lowest common denominator.
Find another genre to play or go back to something old school like Age of Conan Unchained.

Star Wars ToR is a little jank but I have fun with it. You can play it as a mostly solo experience. It's the only true mmorpg I keep coming back to.

I had fun with Elder Scrolls Online in the Elsweyr region, that you have to buy separately from the base game (base game is $5 on steam rn) Elweyr has this really beautiful ancient india/thailand vibe, brought Dragons back, added the Necromancer class, and I played it with my brother co-op which you won't have access to, lol.

Games that might not be true mmos, but have the mmo style chat lobby and 4 player squads: Warframe and Division 2. I wouldn't play Division 2 unless you have real life friends to play it with because the chat is dominated by asians speaking moon languages.

Monster Hunter World/Rise might have the gear-based progression you are looking for, along with transmog, character customization, and team-based gameplay.

    >ESO
    Singleplayer MMORPG with bleh combat
    >Gw2
If you care about a modern MMORPG with "massive" experiences in the open world, this is sadly the best choice
    >WoW Retail
Ehh, only good if you care for dungeon farming and raiding a lot
    >WoW Classic
Now a days not that much different than retail with wotlk. Hardcore mode on vanilla got a bit of a bump in popularity for now. A new vanilla season may be coming, who knows if it will be good though
    >Albion
If you're looking for a top down pvp focused mmorpg, this is your best choice
    >New World
Not that bad now a days. Still has major issues around the endgame gearing system. Some like it, some don't. Recent patch introduced their first raid. No idea if its good. Many people find the weapon skills/archtypes boring, will be up to you to decide
    >SWTOR
    Singleplayer star wars MMO

A lot of MMOs are ancient fossils and plays like it, luckily there's a new generation coming soon. Pax Dei and Ashes of Creations are the ones to look out for, but if you want to talk about MMOs to play right now, there's literally none worth playing.

I already own XIV and HW from a long time ago bought straight from SquareStore.

Can I buy Endwalker on Steam and use it? Does it give you a code or would I need to own the Starter Edition shit from Steam first?

      Anonymous

Unfortunately Steam versions and squenix store versions are now completely segregated in regards to expansions (you can still use the same account on either but it'll want you to rebuy the expansions for whatever version you're on) didnt actually used to be this way but what can you do? Just go through the squenix store its not like theres any real steamworks integration anyways. Though I suppose you might be missing out on more frequent deals on the expansions through steam.

I wanted it because it was on Summer Sale for half off.

To answer myself more solidly for anyone else wondering and why:
You can't buy DLC for a game you don't own on Steam. XIV Starter Kit and Endwalker are just CD Keys from Steam. So if you don't have the Starter Kit it doesn't let you buy Endwalker.

Not enough MMO's that let me play a furry race that doesn't look like ass, a robot/golem, or an undead.

You'll get me to play your mmo if you have at least one non-standard race option that isn't generic tolkienshit.

Besides playing archaic old shit built for people who have been playing it for 20 years not really.

No one is really interested in creating shared worlds anymore, they all want that dopamine chink grinder that sells well in the asian market, and because of modern day 'game design experts' who are much like game journos, we won't see a good AAA MMO any time soon unless someone like Valve pulls one out of their ass or something without publisher oversight.

I recently tried ff14 and it's actually really good, alot better game than modern wow, if raiding/collecting fashion/roleplay is what you enjoy I'd reccomend ff14, great game that offers alot for both casual and serious players, ff14 downside is the game feels slow in the beginner, gets more enjoyable to longer you play and progress through the expansions.

For old school mmo vibes you can also play vanilla classic, atm it's very popular and the servers are full of people levelling, if you enjoy levelling characters in a world full of players and doing dungeons etc than vanilla wow classic would be the best.

I mostly play classic wow (wotlk) because I have irl friends I play with, if it wasn't for irl friends I'd be maining ff14 for sure, wotlk is kinda soulless, bad middle-ground where it's not quite "old school" enough, yet not "modern enough, would not reccomend, but if you like logging in once a week to raid with people it can be okay.
