Yuna boring but best in combat. Combat is fun and game does a good job at throwing different things at you to make you switch up yout strategys and party memebers often, you cant just mash attack through the game. Sphere grid is cool and a more interesting way to level up characters. Cant wait to statmaxx everyone except wakka. Blitzball is an abomination and i dont want to touch it ever again after that first game. Voice acting is kinda awkward at times but has its moments.

Blitzball sucks, and I played like 200h of just blitzball. All you do to win is use Tidus Jecht shot, then pass the ball around till the timer goes down.
Yeah this. Glad you're enjoying the game OP but yeah Blitzball is not fun. On the boat between Kilika and Luca, you'll see a blitzball on deck, save first and interact with it and there's a minigame where you can learn the Jecht Shot, it makes Blitzball bearable. use the Jecht Shot to get a point lead. Next time you have the ball, swim back to your own goal and get behind the goalie, the enemy AI can't reach you there and will usually spin around in circles until the timer runs out
You only need that if you try to win the first match. After the first match you can take the ferry back and learn the move later. There's no prizes for winning the first match so it's pretty moot
you get a strength sphere for winning the first game, and +4 str at that stage of the game is actually a pretty huge boost

You don't even have to do this, just move in circles at the bottom of the minimap and no team except the Goers can even begin to take the ball from you. For the Goers you will need to pass the ball around.
I actually like Blitzball though. It's cool that they thought up a completely separate second RPG battle system just for a minigame.
My argument would be, that stuff like that is more akin to a bug. While the "pass the ball around" thing is a serious design flaw that could require the game to be changed significantly.
Not even this is necessary, merely sit behind the goal and nobody will bother you.

Wakka's Reels limit break has the biggest damage output when you get it to dictate the number of attacks. You need Wakka at max for the end game content
There HAS to be an alternative to using wakka for damage. Rikku maybe? Lulu? Is wakka really "required" for endgame?
Yeah, his attack reels is the biggest source of damage. In the end game you also get the ability to transfer overdrive meter to other characters and if you are not transfering it to Wakka, you are needlessly gimping yourself. Rikku has good limit breaks too but for different reason as she can offer buffs. But unless you can kill enemies as soon as possible, you are dead. So either accept that you need Wakka's second limit break and his ultimate weapon to do the end game content or just play the main story. Lulu falls off in damage output way before that, her onyl role in end game is to stand in for damage and giving her limit break meter to Wakka, same with Kimahri and Auron, because they can't into multi-hit attacks

Nah, Auron has 2 uses in postgame. He's the only character whose celestial weapon has First Strike, which has some specific uses.
Secondly, there are certain enemies that are immune to regular armor break, but can still have it applied by either Auron's Banishing Blade overdrive, or by one of Rikku's mixes. Auron has some use in that you don't need to spend consumables to get the armor break and can save Rikku's extremely versatile overdrive for other more important things.
If you cba with statmaxxing (which is extremely tedious in X) there's a specific aeon you can abuse to cheese most postgame fights

Try playing Blitzball after the tournament. You can hire other players too. The OG Auroch team do get passable later, but if you want easy breezy early game for Blitzball, hire players around Luca and Mi'hen highroad. A good starting goalie Jumal can be hired in Luca square. Tidus is good from the start. Check other people too to see their stat and if they better than your OG Aurochs, hire them. For the actual playing of Blitzball, check your opponents whether they have moves to learn. Pay attention to the moves that unlock more moves. In the end the Blitzball is really easy and your only goal in the mini game is to get Wakka's weapon and limit break
None of that matters when Blitzball itself is no fun.

the postgame isnt really worth it, outside of a few things. but doing things like dark aeons, deus or the judge is a waste of time. Trust me. You can do things like getting Anima and be done with it.
I wasted an entire summer collecting everything for the arena and other shit. Dark Aeons were not in t he original japanese release btw. they came with the special edition there

There is a damage cap, and one way to circumvent that is by hitting multiple times. Wakka is the most effective at that with his Limit Break.
You can break the 9999 barrier with fully charged ultimate weapons OR by applying that damage cap breaker to the weapons when you get the ability to customize weapons attributes. This will bring it to 99999.
You should try to use app the characters depending on situation this is why you can switch them in and out at will.
Wakka with a stone-touch attribute on his weapon is pretty OP.
I did not bother to get all his reels because blitzball is a chore.
Make sure to bring Kimari in to steal enemy and boss abilities. That is all he is there for us to copy abilities from enemies.
wakka isn't required at all but he's the best damage dealer so without him some of the post game bosses that already take long, take even fricking longer

Best team is Rikku, Tidus, Wakka for endgame. Tidus and Wakka for there amazing Overdrives for damage and Rikku's Overdrive for support(Hyper Mighty G etc)
No matter what, your end-game team will always gravitate towards Tidus, Wakka and Rikku (with Yuna as backup).
I personally used Auron instead of Rikku, and beat everything except Penance.

Characters can hit 99,999 damage pretty easily. After that, it becomes a question of how many 99,999s you can do per turn. Wakka wins with Attack Reels. Tidus comes in second with his two last overdrives. Rikku is always good because of her Overdrive.
Auron has no options, neither Kihmari. Lulu has a multi-hit overdrive, but seeing how Magic becomes useless late-game, you won't ever get all the hits to be 99,999.
The main story is ez besides three bosses or if you frick up your leveling royally.
During the postgame, everyone can potentially have max stats, so they're only comparable in Overdrives. And Wakka has the best OD in the game.
Tidus, Auron, Wakka and Rikku are the best characters. Yuna can use Yojimbo to cheese frickers if you got enough money. Lulu and Kimhari are useless.

It is set that you most liekly lose the first match. When you get to actually play and manage your team, it's cake walk. Plus you need to play it to get Wakka's ultimate weapon which you need for end game content

the only interesting part of these games is when you're losing but that can only happen when the AI is basically cheating. i guess we could probably separate the different enjoyable mechanics of these games and try to replicate them through fake balancing. level scaling needs to happen in these games for balancing reasons but it needs to happen in such a way that it is totally undetectable because glass armor bandits is stupid. like we can really look through a microscope at what exact moments in these games are fun, and basically hack them together so they happen more often. we can say "okay hes only going to have x amount of healing items, and his party will take z amount of damage during this segment", so its more like a puzzle that needs to be completed, and this puzzle needs to appear in the form of a turn based RPG. we can achieve the ideal scenario for a turn based RPG using a formula. part of this formula can even be specific stuff like "distance from first item to next item". with a formula like this a quality game will basically just generate itself. the core mechanics are good which is why this formula works so well. the levels generate themselves and the combat is always a challenge because of the forced scaling and the loot always feels good because we've copied all the best loot delivery methods.
Just don't play the de-make. Emulate it.

I don’t know how the frick I did it but when I tell you I beat the game only using Tidus Rikku and Auron when I was 10 or 11 I beat the game only using those 3. Don’t know how the frick I did it bevause I could replicate the results as a 32 year old man. Rikku was my main healer with her mix abilities and al bhed grenades and the other 2 just face tanked everything
Main quest is easy, you could beat it with Kimhari Lulu and Yuna. Rikku is overpowered for main quest actually, especially if you stock up Al Bhed potions.
PS2 definitely looks better, the UI elements are more soulful as well.

What makes the remake worth it over the original, in your opinion?
Despite not being graphically as nice to look at, I'd still consider it a graphical update. Like I said it's not 100% there, but I it's still "better" than the original, even if flawed. And emulating comes with it's own issues. For instance playing the PS2 version at 1080p tends to mess with the UI textures, specially in combat.
On the other hand the remaster brings enhancements as well: Turbo for faster combat is great, because the game tends to drag eventually, and I personally used "Enemy Encounter Override" once I've unlocked my first "no encounter" item, instead of swapping my equipment for it every time I need it. Convenient!
And if you like to mess around with cheats, it has a bunch of them as well, All items, all skills, max gil, max overdrive. Wouldn't recommend that for general gameplay but it's fun to mess around with.
And lastly, the PC remaster version can be modded to include Japanese voices, which is nice. This is possible on the Emu as well in all honesty, but you need to find and download the specific rom for it.
And also, and this is really a minor point: The HD version comes with FFX-2 as well. A game I don't particularly like in all honesty, but I thought it's worth a mention.

ffx is pretty shit for a final fantasy game but decent as an jrpg. Color coded enemies with barely any veriety, Hallways, no world map and X-2 ruins the whole setting and plot completly. It's was the beginning of sqenix dark age.

But the nonPS2 releases have a 30fps interface during battle, which makes menus less responsive.
Being able to use whatever controller you want is a nice thing, since you don't have to rely on now up to 23 year old PS2 controllers and can use whatever you've got.
