I've been playing since Gen 1 and I've never used the circled pokemon in any game. Am I missing out on anything interesting?
What earlier or popular mons have you never used?

jynx is fun, it can carry your entire team depending on which game youre playing. its one of my favorite pokemon
i considered using machamp once but i never ended up going through with it
oh yeah and ive never used blastoise before
>gen 2 Jynx
Arcanine can use both physical and sp attack fire moves, and also has access to extremespeed
I used Pinsir in BDSP and it was actually ridiculous, Storm throw hits so hard for how early you get it.
Completely reasonable list of Pokémon never used assuming you had blue so just never had a chance to use growlithe line, tentacruel underrated as frick for ingame though. Pinsir and electabuzz is great too.
>Kingler
>Ryhorn
>Seadra/Kingdra
You ate seriously missing out on these, but the rest are fine to skip.
arcanine is dank, but pretty much unusable in gen2 due to the stones and is kinda fricky in gen 1 due to the lack of need of a fire starter, the fact none of the fire moves use his better attack stat, he needs dig tm and he has no stab unless you wait forever to evolve Growlth or wait till fireblast from blaine. He is in that dragonite category where all he can do is spam nonstab normal moves with high stats
tentacruel is one of the best water types in RBY after gyarados, cloyster has ridiculous defense and crabby has crazy attack but without stab to work with it. Rydon is like a better golem
Dig is still a good move in gen 1, it has 100 power same as earthquake + it's a field move and you will still need to have growlithe later into the game unless you dump TMs on it
yeah it sucks, arcanine literally learns nothing so you either have to keep growlithe forever and lose out on arcanine's stats, or you need to deal with arcanine not having any useable stab until after Blaine and dump a frick ton of tms on him like hyperbeam, dig and bodyslam, takedown or double edge. Hyperbeam can be bought at the game corner so it isn't an issue and doesnt recharge if you get a kill and is off the higher attack stat but isn't stab. dig and bodyslam are good but only 1 of 1, fireblast you might as well. can't learn strength. Growlithe gets takedown at 30 and flamethrower at an unusable 50
Of that list, the only ones really worth your time in Gen1 runs are the Seel/Vulpix/Growlithe/Kabuto lines.
There's not much different between Kabutops and Omastar, since they are more or less the same Pokemon apart from Kabutops being physically oriented and Omastar being Special and just having more bulk in its defense. Arcanine and Ninetales are in a similar boat here, with Arcanine being physical while Ninetales is Special based, except they're explicitly fire and can supplement your Water or Grass starter run handily if you want your Eevee to be Jolteon or something.
As for Dewgong, it's really just a Lance killer if you don't use Lapras for whatever reason. It's a little faster, so it's got that going for it if you want a replacement for Lapras since they fundamentally both have similar stats where it matters.
>using the reject versions of Ninenine
can't speak for earlier gens, but I know that Tentacruel and Cloyster absolutely frick
most of the rest are trash; Kingler can work, but only after the split in a much later generation where it has a decent movepool and so can Seadra if you evolve it
Tangela is also decent but it's pretty late into the game after you have been given basically every other grass type and loads of electrics, so it's not really worth it
Tentacruel is a riot in gen 1. It has really fast Wraps, and can stack Toxic on top of that.
Electabuzz is really good in gen 2 because it learns a lot of punches.
Kingler's okay in physical/special split gens. Not horrible in gen 1 either because it has guaranteed crits on Crabhammer to balance out its low special.
Yeah, Lickitung, Rhydon and Kingler are awesome. I also typically do not use the latter two in playthroughs, because Rhydon takes such a long time to get, but I like them a lot and have used them both online/in facilities.
Pinsir is really good in RBY.
Rhydon is an ungodly beast in the first two gens because Rock was actually pretty good back then - Grass was largely a novelty and good Fighting attacks literally just didn't exist so Water and Ice were its only real relevant weaknesses, while on the other hand Normal was an incredibly valuable resist to have given the number of strong Normal types. On top of the defensive utility, Rhydon also just hits fricking hard with 130 attack and stab Earthquake/Rock Slide.
Jynx is the original fast Ice type (yeah, 95 base was once considered fast) and Ice/Psychic is a fantastic STAB combination even today, and Lovely Kiss is a great status move for the small handful of Pokemon it can't threaten with dual stabs. It's basically the Weavile of Gen 1/2/3.
Arcanine isn't actually any good in old gens (Fire types in general just suck) but in newer gens its access to Intimidate, Morning Sun, and Will-O-Wisp give it a pretty unique niche as a defensive Fire type. Still not great but pretty cool to use.
I tried using Arcanine in PLA, and it was still pretty underwhelming even with the additional STAB option.
