I've been replaying the Sims 2 and it's the most fun I've had with a game in years. It's a also been talking preference over managing my own life. It's surprising how it still holds up even compared to an obvious upgrade such as Sims 3.

I didn't know that. I guess that only works if you prove that you had purchased it back in the day. For all intents and purposes the Sims 1 and 2 is abandonware.

It works perfectly and it even includes a patch that allows you to play on modern resolution. I recommend you cap it in-game a little above 800x900 because the interface uses fixed pixels and as a result everything becomes tiny on widescreen at 1080ph.

I remember being a kid and just playing sims 1 and 2 with my big sister, I was so happy when I managed to play both of these games again a couple years back, but Sims 2 is just so much more fun compared to 1

When the university expansion for Sims 2 came out, our minds were blown.
The square house was such a classic noob move. It's funny thinking about it since the game was originally really focused on architecture before the developers realized that the sims themselves were the most interesting part.

I think that on the Sims 2 during vacation aging stops and the time counter becomes about the vacation itself, just like in university. I might be misremembering.

Sims 3 is objectively better but I prefer 2 because I am much more comfortable with it and I know I can run it no problems. I has spaguetti code but unless you tamper with the game you can usually count on it no breaking on its own.

even if you use performance mods for 3, 2 is still way smoother and better to play, everything is just snappy
I was finally able to play it on an SSD after years on an HDD and the load times are so much better. I used to avoid community lots because of how long they'd take to load, so my sims always ended up being hermits, like me. Now I take them out a lot more.

To be fair, in Sims 2 you can buy a cellphone that functions the same, except you can take it anywhere.
What's your favorite aspiation? When I was a kid for me it was Knowledge because I identified with it, but nowadays I like Romance the best because it really allows you to start a lot of chaos.
