Why do you get rid of one source of tedium (grinding) yet still practice the most major one (encounter luck)? Do you believe that a "true nuzlocke" necessitates getting the RNG behind encounters correctly, meaning that you're dying on the same hill as those who insist that grinding is necessary for a "true nuzlocke"? What's even the point?

Sure, but if tedium is that terrible to watch, why waste time rerolling the RNG for the right encounters? That's comparatively a larger presence of RNG tedium.

I get what you mean, he went through 151 (lol) attempts of EK before beating and I sure as hell wasn't tuning in for any of that, but I think the people who do also like the excitement of finding that attempt changing encounter or that worst case scenario crit, or being there when a new milestone is made, idk.
But by that logic, wouldn't there also be potential for excitement in risking grinding deaths? The kind of excitement you listed is comparable to the sort associated with shiny hunting - total RNG dependence. It delivers as a kind of illogic to me when Jan or his viewers express that rare candies are acceptable because they just bypass tedious grinding, but they then devote time to watching/playing repeated playthroughs of the same game which continue or end at certain points depending on the RNG encounters. That's a way more egregious kind of "grinding" in its own right.
In my opinion, looking from the outside in, it's as if the encounters being random is a must for the audience to consider the runs actually legitimate. It makes them "feel" as if they were orchestrated correctly. But if that's the case, while they smear those who suggest that using rare candies delegitimizes the run, they still cling on to their own variety of considering RNG tedium a necessary requirement for legitimate nuzlocke completion.
Yeah I can't say I can relate to the kind of people who grind nuzlocke runs or speedrun attempts endlessly or their respective fans either, I respect the hell out of that kinda tenacity and patience but I don't have those qualities myself. At the end of the day Pokemon has ludicrous amounts of rng baked into it, It's why I shy away from playing much competitive these days myself, but that's a part of the spirit of nuzlocke runs and playing around the cards you've been dealt as much as possible. I think for these types the excitement of wild encounter 556 landing a crit because the runner got lazy going to the pokecenter doesn't outweigh the grind itself, they're there to see the planning during gym fights and bosses I'd imagine.
That's all just my 2 cents though, maybe someone else could speak on it.

No. The safest way to grind is on route 1 mons while holding your turbo A button on 100x speed. Nobody's watching that or cares about how you level up, they want to see how you teambuild and make decisions in battle because it's not a mash A simulator.
I think speed up is more egregious than rare candies are for challenge runs, but it's too widespread and the Stadium games made it canon.
