I've got this cheap PS2 to USB adapter off of ebay and it works fine with my dual shock controllers but it won't work with any of my digital controllers. It's because it's stuck in analog mode.
Does anyone here know if there is a key combination when you plug it in that switches it to digital only mode?
When I plug it in it shows up as a PS3 controller.
When I use a dual shock controller it works, but both the analog stick and the d-pad show up as the left X/Y axis. The POV hat is not used for anything.
If I press the analog button on the controller nothing happens.
If I plug in a digital-only controller nothing is recognized. No inputs at all.
What OS are you using? Windows? i have the same USB adapter and it works fine on my Steam Deck (Linux). The analog button does nothing, it's permanently stuck to being on, but all the inputs are recognized.
Half the actual buttons were initially jumbled up and weren't recognized correctly, but it was nothing that setting up a controller profile didn't fix.
I'm using Windows 10.
However, I just tried it on my laptop running Xubuntu and a dual shock and the d-pad was WAS recognized as the POV hat. So you could set it up properly.
However, when I swapped the Dual Shock 1 (original PS1 grey) with a HORI Real Arcade Pro PS2 nothing would work. No inputs registered at all.
I think it's because digital controllers lack any analog feature at all. The converter only works with analog controllers unless there's some hidden button combo you have to hold down on start-up to enable digital mode.
I've had the same issue with that very same adapter 2 years ago as you, OP.
Unfortunately I was never frickin' able to find a solution to turn off analog mode or to separate the D-pad from registering as an analog stick when using a PS2 controller on PC. There's a 2-ported usb blue adapter (PS1/2 to PC USB Dual Controller Adapter) on ebay, but I only ever got that to work with with my friend's PS1 duelshock with no hiccups, while it wouldn't read any of my PS2 controller's inputs (Model SCPH - 10010 A).
Not sure if it was a bad adapter or a compatibility issue with specific controllers.
Yeah, I think I'm going to have to buy one of the more name brand adapters and get confirmation ahead of time that it does work with digital only controllers.
>Does anyone here know
No. No one here can magically divine the information needed. The best anyone can do is guess. My guess is you have a garbage adapter. This is compounded by an acute inability to articulate your problem and situation.
>This is compounded by an acute inability to articulate your problem and situation.
can't into reading? op literally explained their problem. stop trying so hard
>acute inability to articulate your problem
>and situation.
>op literally explained their problem.
Who can't into reading? lmfao at the epic irony.
Well, sure, it'd be moronic to try to hold down the analog button on a "digital controller" as it wouldn't exist. Yet somehow OP tried it.
I tried it by holding down the analog button on the dual shock 2 to see if that would set the adapter to digital only mode in the hope that I might be able to swap the dual shock to the digital controller after.
>i tried it by not trying the impossible it but i tried something even more moronic
lol. Yup. The information you should have provided up front is gonna trickle in and it's gonna be funny.
No. It's a simple matter of whether the part/code in the adapter is garbage or not. It has nothing to do with how much you over pay on ebay.
God you're such a queer.
>God
Well I do I identify as 2 people plus a spirit, which technically makes me 3-spirit, so way more queer than any mere mortal wokeie.
>Reddit-tier response
Die early.
Trying to hot-swap it like that is a good idea and would be part of my own trouble shooting process as well.
Stop being such a turd.
So you're moronic and have no idea hoe this shit works. Color me shocked!
Just shit up, gay.
you're just an angry little goblin, aren't ya?
hot tip: Ganker isn't only about attacking other posters
I wanna say hold down the analog button while connecting it. But I won't actually say it because that's moronic.
Tried it. Didn't do anything.
Hmm.
Open it up, plug it in and then manually short out the analog button contacts.
Seems unlikely that a cheap adapter would have anything like that
Because it's cheap
And that's why the expensive ones are expensive
why would a cheap adapter not work with the simplest type of playstation controller?
Playstation controllers all run different interface protocols that are incompatible with one another. A cheap adapter would only detect the most common controller instead of trying to support everything.
It is annoying as frick though, digital PSX controllers are nice but there's no adapters to use them on anything.
>Cheap PS2 to USB adapter
>PS2 to USB
>PS2
PS2 controllers are ALL analog, so maybe you deserve this shit, you fricking idiot.
What in the hell are you talking about?
PS2 controllers use a digital serial protocol.
And even if it didn't, it wouldn't mean it's impossible to make a converter for it.
>PS2 controllers are ALL analog
This is not true. The previously mentioned HORI Real Arcade Pro is not analog and apparently does not work with this device. That's a pretty bad oversight by the creator of a PS2 to USB adapter since fighting game players would be a huge audience for your product.
Weird, I'm having the exact same issue as OP. I've already tried different drivers, poking at settings in SCP and XOutput, no dice. Judging by the replies and assorted homosexualry around here, I'll probably have to bite the curb and get an actual controller instead of using the shitty adapter if I'd want to use the DPad as well as two sticks.
At least I know now.
Alternatively you could get a decent adapter like the Raphnet one/s or a BlueRetro one if you're too poor for that
I'll definitely keep those in mind if the Logitech one turns out to be hot garbage, thanks.
