If you have no nostalgia for it or interest in ARPGs, it's an an incredibly grindy, repetitive game. The gaming equivalent of a slot-machine. Popular, but not for everyone.

DOS2 is not an ARPG in the slightest. More like playing D&D, but you manipulate everything around you and use it to your advantage. You can really get fricked on the first island of you don’t know wtf you’re doing and might just end up dropping it. Though, if you give it a proper shot, and maybe look up some tips to help it click, it’s pretty damn great to make it out of a tense situation with everyone alive.

Its not tortanic-tier bad but as it is right now there isn't much to do besides the story
You'll get much more mileage and a more complete experience out of many other arpgs, which includes most older diablo games, poe, grim dawn etc.

I will speak up for grim yawn which IS slow but I enjoy the skills and items and the world is pretty neat and fun to explore the first time because theres a fair amount of hidden fun stuff
but it is very slow to start with, it gets better but it's not a "fly across the screen killing 999 enemies a second with lots of bright colors and dinging noises" like diablo or poe
I tried grim yawn but tbh the second I noticed an old ass game was stuttering I uninstalled it
I'm sure it was great when it came out but I missed it

it's a solid foundation, they could improve it but it'll take at least a year given the timeframe they've given for basic changes (some not coming until season 2)

d3 gave EACH CLASS different stories, which is unusual for an ARPG

PLay Diablo 1 remake on GoG (or download it) and Diablo 2, Diablo 2 Remaster if you really need the graphix.
3 is fine but it has aged like milk. Every game that is a diablo clone is better than 3 in some way you can appreciate. And 4 is an inferior version of 3 and we are not having this argument if someone reads this and happens to be wrong.
Play Diablo 2 remastered, or if that looks too old, just play 3 or Torchlight 2 (should be cheap now with the Steam Sale). If you liked those, might like Diablo IV.

Diablo games have been shit since they shut down Blizzard North (Diablo 1 and Diablo 2).
Diablo 1 was better than 2 in a lot of ways though, so it's completely possible they would have fricked it all up too.
