Fun is definitely not the word I'd use. However SH 2 is the reason I went into game development as it showed the games medium was much more than anime breasts and braindead gameloops.
2 for the best story & atmosphere I've ever experienced in a game
1 for actual horror (hope you like polygons)
3 is better than 4 but both are skippable and don't live up to the gold that were their predecessors.
>However SH 2 is the reason I went into game development as it showed the games medium was much more than anime breasts and braindead gameloops.
So YOU'RE the problem
Nah I've sculpted my fair share of melons; the gradual shrinking of which since I started in 2018 has made me deeply sad. Now we live in a time with braindead stories and no breasts.
Nope. They are for guys that have had their girlfriend raped if that hasn't happened to your or your gf you won't get much value out of the Silent Hill series.
>I've never played a Silent Hill game.
You should. Alongside with the classic RE-trilogy and something like Fatal Frame, they are the quintessential survival-horror games.
Their influence cannot be exaggerated, and their atmosphere, story and audio-visual design are top notch.
They also got truckloads of replay value. I kid you not, I've literally beaten the first two games in the series some 50+ times, and will prolly revisit them countless times more in the future.
If you got a PC made in the past ~20 years, you can play all of them on PC, even at 4K 60fps if you wish, for free.

>Protips
-Play the games in the release order.
-Start with Normal difficulty is recommended.
-There's TONS of replay value, so do replay them all.
-Turn down the in-game Brightness setting, for better gamma & colors.
-Don't try to kill everything that moves, especially outdoors. Leg it, or sneak!
-Turning OFF the flashlight can really help you in the dark.

Then just grab the DuckStation emulator, and run the PS1 original games. 😛
Anyway, always play both character campaigns (and in case of RE2, both A and B versions).
Start RE1 with Jill Valentine first. You'll thank me later.
Enable the Auto-Aim control scheme from the in-game options for easier time.
>what if i wanna buy them
Then you must be a rich-gay, because the games are not available on ANY online store, and the prices of the OG physical, used copies start from 100€ these days.
Yes, israelitenami doesn't give a frick, and the games are practically Abandonware at this point.
>what about dat "HD Collection" on Piss3 / X360?
Literally THE worst HD de-master ever created. Even the OG devs hated it.
Also it's only SH2 and 3, and like said, every single conceivable thing was broken or downgraded in them. Avoid it.
Depends on how much you are into horror. I simply couldn't deal with Silent Hill 2, the atmosphere was simply too much for me. Too disturbing and depressing, to the point I wasn't having fun.
It's one of the best games, if not the best game (yes, even above Resident Evil) in the genre, but I realised horror is just not for me.
>I simply couldn't deal with Silent Hill 2, the atmosphere was simply too much for me
that's just funny, knowing that SH2 is widely considered as the LEAST spooky and the easiest game in series.
>SH1
The PS1 had a lot of RE clones, this is not only the best one but it's arguably better than RE. Seriously, all RE does better is action but if you really want fixed camera tank control action then Dino Crisis 2 is the best one ever made to this day. As it stands, SH1 is probably the best PS1 survival horror.
>SH2
So depressing to play that it made me feel suicidal irl. The ending made me cry and I almost choked on my tears trying to hide my crying from the guys I was on a discord call with. It transcends gameplay, it's an experience.
Looking forward to playing SH3 but I had to take a break for my emotional wellbeing.
If you like hiding and running and not being able to defend yourself from bullshit around every corner then yes, go for it
>If you like hiding and running and not being able to defend yourself from bullshit
This is a Silent Hill thread, not Amnesia.
Just play on easy mode, dummy. What are you trying to prove?
no

you know what must be done, grab the "nipple" axis and expand like you're an original tomb raider dev.
Nope. They are for guys that have had their girlfriend raped if that hasn't happened to your or your gf you won't get much value out of the Silent Hill series.
if you measure "fun" as Cyberprank experience, then yes
buck broken starfield cuck
Depends are you circumcised.
The beginning of the first game is the best intro of a videogame ever.

Frick yes. And terrifying!
Here's something similar for the Resident Evil 1-3, since the Halloween's just around the corner:

It's not that bad.
>It's not that bad.
It is. Easily THE worst remaster job, and THE worst way to play SH2 and 3.
Gee, it's almost as if "fun" would not be tied to "graphics"... really makes me think!
HD collection of 3 is worse than the original, but playable on anything but playstation.

For what it's worth, I played Silent Hill 4 too, and I found that a lot more digestable for me. Didn't finish that one either.
uhhhhhhhh they're good games sir
They're not supposed to be fun
I recently replayed the first two.

horror movies do nothing for me, laugh at them even.
silent hill at midnight in a pitch black room does
take from this what you will.
>playing Silent Hill in the dark
Brave. I'd piss myself.
its not that bad, but don't do the ayy lmao ending at night thats just asking for spooks.
>Silent Hill
>fun
Uh, entertaining I'd say, but not in the fun way. If you like to shit you're pants you'll like it.
3 is the closest thing I'd allude to as "fun". You play it for the oppressive atmosphere and next door neighbor breasts in the case of 4.
Hm, i played sh1 five years ago and had quite some fun despite the poopy graphics. Very atmospheric and good horror
