My 45 year old Atari 2600 cartridges still work perfectly. Even the 35 year old save batteries in my NES cartridges are still holding a charge.
I recently changed some GBC cartridge batteries. Costed a few bucks to get a pack of 10, took maybe 15 minutes to do two cartridges and test they were working, plus it was a fun bonding experience with my wife who wanted to do the soddering. Games worked perfectly.

I've known that for the past 15 years, and especially the past 6. The switch will be my last nintendo system, haven't touched it in ages and there's better portable options now.
The Nintendo I grew up with died by the late '90s.
I think they were fine until the Wii, but you could see the decline starting with the GCN.
The Wii was one of their darkest eras. I liked Gamecube era, but I noticed that difficulty in their games took a dive. Even in the N64 era, their games felt way easier.
I was only about 9 when the N64 came out, and even then, I just enjoyed SNES games so much more. SMW, SMK, Megaman X, DKC, Kirby Superstar, Allstars, Contra 3, Gradius 3 (inferior port, but still fun) R-Type 3, Contra 3, Super Castlevania 4, Turtles in Time, Super Bomberman, Chrono Trigger, FFV, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Tactics Ogre.
Some of my most favorite games got released during that time.

1 and 2 had FOMO with splatfests, but even then it was basically just the main mode with a nighttime setting and different music. It also had weekly updates with new weapons and maps. 3's FOMO is worse since it incentivizes you to play with daily bonuses, a free battlepass with rewards that won't repeat for another year, collectibles locked to certain modes (some of which are time-gated), low-rate drops for the shop in the PvE mode, a literal gacha machine, and so on. The seasonal updates don't bring enough to the table to keep things fresh considering it takes three months for each update. I still have a lot of fun playing but it's a step down from 1 and 2 in that regard.

it's very telling that most games that came out in the past ten years are just rehashes, remakes or ports of games that we got in the past. and a lot of sequels we've gotten are from games from the ps3 - 360 era. the fps games, the tps, the ubishit, the open world formula, the 'cinematic adventure games,' the racing games, hell even MMOs on the pc are virtually the same as from that era. all thats changed is that graphics got sharper; but essentially the gameplay has been the same for a long time. only its worse due to excessive DLC, scarcity on new games because AAA costs too much, and guaranteed bugs on release. gaming has actually gotten worse and is stale

The Wii U gamepad just needs a replacement battery every once in a while, there were so many innovative games (like the return of Pikmin), and the online worked well. Meanwhile, Switch games are expensive and microtransaction-littered, the joycons drifted, almost every Switch game made by GF or Nintendo looks visually unappealing, there are lots of rehashes and remasters, the Switch has always been technologically underpowered, and Nintendo went from attacking third-party devices and romhacks to attacking legitimate efforts to archive games they no longer sell. Plus all that in the OP? At least they care more about indie developers (especially Toby Fox) and the Smash director is giving game design lessons.
I'm baffled at how well-made the Wii U tablet was compared to the joycons. My tablet still works to this day, nine years old vs. my joycons starting to drift a little over a year in. Nintendonium really went extinct after the N64.

If it is I'm accidently part of it. I just decided to play it again last week and was reminded how much I dislike it. Music and style still rules but frick I hate what they've done with the maps and pacing.
What's wrong with the maps?
They cut out a ton of the side lanes and alternate routes as well as shrunk them. They all just lead to one central bottle neck now where almost all of the fighting occurs. Every match feels the same to me now as a result.
Anyone with a shred of sense and standards could see the issues with splatoon 3 a mile away. Nintendo knows full well they don't have to try right now and they're making the most of it.
There's certainly a lot of negativity over the game in even diehard circles. Splatoon runs on a live service model. It's promised support for a set amount of time. Not only is Splat 3 getting less content than the previous game, but the content we are getting just feels half assed and is executed poorly. And we're just getting shit. It makes 3 feel like an inferior game to 2 in some ways despite a few QOL improvements here and there. There's frankly a lot to be upset about if you're a fan of the previous games, but there are some improvements here and there. People were just hoping for more, as the previous Splat games were also kind of half assed and rushed. The core gameplay is fun, but the content rollout has always been a problem for these games. We're just getting less than ever before now. Makes Splat 3 feel completely unnecessary and hardly like a sequel. Should have just held off on the game until the next console, but Nintendo got greedy and wanted to make some easy cash.
As someone who played splat2 for 2k+ hours, I can't bring my self to even open the game, and my competitive friends are already sick of it.
It feels like Splatoon 2 but with less content, as we wait for Splatoon 2 content to make it back to 3.
The scaling in Salmon Run is terrible, and max hazard isn't fun to reach or play.
Story mode is a huge downgrade from what 2 offered.
All of this plus these games still run p2p.. my God Nintendo...

Not really a massive hate campaign, but no, it isn't exclusive to Ganker.
There's a lot to like about 3, it's very close to being my favorite in the series, but it shoots itself in the foot with a few issues. The major ones being the maps and the update schedule, and more minor ones being continuing to have a pathetic online network for a "competitive" game, some baffling balance choices, and the pants on head moronic ranking system.

In Splatoon 1, the maps were quite large, and they all had a core idea behind them, making them very varied and unique. Splatoon 3 maps do not have either of these qualities. They are all extremely similar closed off hallway maps. They are all roughly Z shaped featuring sniper perches, with no flanks, and have largely removed paintable walls. Despite absolutely no one liking this direction, the devs have evidently chosen to continue going in it, judging by the recent update trailer, and the fact that they have yet to make any major changes to existing ones.

In 1 and 2, every week or so they'd give an update that added either a new weapon or a new weapon kit, giving a constant flow of new things to play with. After some time they'd do a big update with a lot of content. In 3, there is nothing for 3 months except a singular bug patch disguised as a mild balance patch, and then you get an update at the end of the "season" that is just not big enough to be worth the wait, especially considering the above issue.
I'd go into more autistic detail about the others but I kept hitting the character limit.
For now, take this example of a Splat 1 map vs a Splat 3 map and understand that these are things no player is happy about.
The multiplayer is in a dire state and the devs refuse to fix fundamental flaws, the update schedule is dogshit and there's not enough new content, the grind and FOMO design has become ludicrous, and the singleplayer is a poor man's Octo Expansion with a plot that's moronic even for a Nintendo game
I don't play Splatoon 3 but I see twittergay splatoon fans also hate 3. I was very surprised to see even normalgays spread their hatred, especially of the level design. Again I myself don't play Splatoon though, but it's not just a Ganker thing at least, at least Twitter as well.
No Splatoon 3 is just fricking shit for the most part. Granted it has some nice things over 2 like 24/7 Salmon Run Access and some new movement options, as well as finally being able to skip the fricking news, it doesn't really fix the issues people had with 2 or 1 if you want to go that far back
