Not only that, but they retconned the non-romance epilogue to make her more of an evil, unrepentant b***h. Originally, if not romanced she founds a cult of Shar in Waterdeep, they betray her, she murders them all, resumes wandering, ends up saving Suldanesselar, gets accepted by the High Elves and leaves again.
In BG3 she founded a cult of Shar in Waterdeep, they do not betray her, she murders them all for shits and giggles, then she founds another cult of Shar in Baldur's Gate where she schemes and does some rather evil shit to [spoiler]Shadowheart[/spoiler]
The morons at Larian really hated her, and it's not hard to see why.

So it's clear that one of the writers simply hates Viconia, right? Did every original fan of BG2 just eat this shit up?
I’m not playing this dogshit. Can’t speak for other fans, but most saw the writing on the wall during EA and either quit or forced themselves to pretend to like it. What I noticed during EA is that the larian soiboys really hate BG1&2. They have a chip on their shoulders for whatever reason so they like to degrade and shit on the originals. Apparently the larian writers are cut from the same cloth (they probably know they can’t compete so they have to tear down their competition instead).
Canonically, Abdel fricked Jaheira, fricked Bodhi, saved Jaheira, then broke up with her after the events of ToB and became the most eligible bachelor of Baldur's Gate for a century straight.
Imagine how many thousands of younger, hotter pointy-eared girls he smashed when he was the Duke of the city.
By all this alleged attention to detail and multiple scenarios, this is an awful cop-out to "we went with established Canon bro." Of all things, asking players at the start of the game about the status of their BG 1-2 companions and then representing that in the game through cameos or replacing them completely with other npcs would have been little work for them in the scope of the entire project but with significantly bigger impact on the player than many other choices and consequences.
I feel like not playing bg games altogether before 3.

Nope, the only people from BG2 that WotC has ever given a shit about were CHARNAME and Minsc. Mostly Minsc, if we go by how CHARNAME was treated. They have never said anything about the canonical fate of the others. Minsc may have been mandated, but Viconia and Jaheira definitely weren't.
When will a mod be released that fixes her?
Even if you make her pretty again, like she's supposed to be, you can't change the writing to give her the character she's supposed to have. She'll remain the generic drow b***h that Larian turned her into.
