I like how the Jedi Knight series focused a lot on lightsaber combat and how realistic it was. Force Unleashed is great and all but I also like realistic lightsaber duels and this game definitely provides.
i've never been able to play TFU games because of the nerf bat lightsabers. it's just dumb. should have taken the time to create animations where it's clear your lightsaber is glancing off armor or energy shields before a killing blow, it's why i could accept it in KOTOR.
>get lightsaber >ready to take out all the stormtroopers possible as revenge for the first few levels of the game >get thrown right into a super vertical level filled with almost nothing but snipers and thermal detonator guys
gives you time to get used to using your lack of power sparingly until you get onto the later Star Destroyer levels and maybe even as early as Bespin when Reborn are jumping out of vents to suck you off en mass.
game is paced pretty well but yeah Nar Shadaar was hell if you were too attached to "im jedi now :)" strats
Was there some method to more reliably activate the "force dodge" other than having enough force energy? Or is it a simple TTRPG "saving throw" that activates based on some probability?
Well Nightdive Studios just announced they're remastering Dark Forces, so they're probably going to do the rest of the Jedi Knight series along with it.
Well that's good but I'm tired of remakes/remasters nowadays. I want them to make a game that's on the same level as Jedi Outcast in gameplay (Of course with Disney that will never happen, but it's nice to hope)
>I want them to make a game that's on the same level as Jedi Outcast
anon you will never see a game like jedi outcast or jedi academy again unless it is made by an indie dev like
not unless an indie dev decides to lock himself away and recreate the mechanics and release a game.
i dont like being absolutist but theres no way a budgeted game is going to be as good as JK2 ever again because the IP genuinely seems like it needs to pander to SOMEONE because thats how disney works. never going to get normal levels with normal pacing because it needs to be a big budget cinematic experience with emotional characters and wafer thin ruminations on positive action and "drive" or whatever the frick.

It's sad because gaming technology is only getting better and better and game quality is getting worse and worse. You'd think we'd be getting games like Force Unleashed but instead we get hit with Jedi Survivor (not that it's a terrible game but it's nowhere near LucasArts quality)
yeah there's no way you'd ever see a small dev handed the IP to make a solid game, it has to be a big giant spectacle with super AAAAAA grafix and ULTRA DETAILED CHARACTER MOTION CAPTURE and cost $500 billion and play like total shit
Your movies were dogshit and I don't care how much zoomer revisionism says otherwise, but you were great as the guy stamping out approvals for video games.
Sorry, it's just a fact.
Jedi Outcast + Academy sabre fights are closer to CS1.6 knife duels but in third person, 90% swinging at the air and wiggling the mouse around to try to get the perfect angle.
>the swordfight is more like a swordfight so its worse
continue to bait if youre baiting but your opinion is worthless even in the event its sincere. there is no situation in which hitting a stormtrooper more than once with a lightsaber enables good combat
No because in both the OG movies and lore lightsaber fights were full of constant parries, blocks and deflects, not swinging wildly at the air.
Thus the Sekiro gameplay style of having a huge focus on blocking, parrying and breaking the posture bar to get that 1 hit kill deathblow is more in line with the OG trilogy then any other game.
so youre actually just admitting youre shit at the game. and its fine if you are but dont speak about it as though your skill issue has any bearing on the quality of the game.
even the vanilla game has blocks and parries but you wouldnt know that because you describe the combat as flailing when blocking requires you to not press anything.
i'm so tired of "the dark times where all the jedi were wiped out except for the thousands of jedi we keep making stories about and secret other Sith even though Vader and Palpatine were supposed to be the only Sith" it'd be awesome to just play during some unspecified Republic and fight Sith edgelords
i'm waiting for it to start hitting that point. Seth McFarlane did it with Star Trek and his show, why can't someone else just rip off Star Wars or Doctor Who or whatever and just get back to the roots of what made those things great before women and moronic executives ruined them?
theyre trying but Netflix is the easiest route. Rebel Moon just released on it and supposedly it was a rejected Star Wars idea but the thing is you need big budget to do believable sci-fi these days and i dont need to tell you how poor the film industry handles the idea of having to spend money in the current era of film
I don't want shows. Just make games with ripoff star wars characters. Give me a game where you play a jetpack wearing bounty hunter called Joba Teff or something.
What I don't understand is why there hasn't been lightsaber combat as good as a janky game from 2002 that used a modifed version of the Quake 3 engine.
no iteration. there wasnt a Jedi Knight IV and the team was moved to something else. same reason many other pivotal videogames didnt get their mechanics lifted- the focus was never on the game it was on the the IP and individual games were never treated specially by the lisence holders unless they printed money.
so now the ethos is to tell "compelling narratives" with vaguely star wars related theming without a frick given to what made people like the games in the first place. this is seen as early as Force Unleashed. the devs didnt even give a frick what was good before they were just employed to "make a star wars thing" and given free liberty with a checklist and what they came up with was "FEESIX AND ENVIRONMENTS"
Such a shame. Force Unleashed came out and I was hoping for updated Jedi Outcast / Academy lightsaber combat. NOPE. Jedi Fallen Order? NOPE. So on and so forth.
"killing an enemy in a single hit from a plasma blade is too easy so here, take this game that suuuper difficult like a souls game even though the old games were plenty difficult in their context"
i dont get it. complete failure of design propped up by strawmen about game mechanics. just because the dev team says something doesnt mean its true, but nobody tells them it isnt because theyre making the money maker
The Reborn enemies in Jedi Outcast were hard as balls. I would rather fight difficult enemies that require tactics instead of bullet sponges where you're hitting them with a wiffle bat that looks like a lightsaber.
Such a shame. Force Unleashed came out and I was hoping for updated Jedi Outcast / Academy lightsaber combat. NOPE. Jedi Fallen Order? NOPE. So on and so forth.
Yeah jedi outcast had that combat figured out over 20 years ago, crazy to think about. You dont need a sponge enemy vs a lightsaber, just work out blocks and parries. It even had strikes get blocked but still deliver a little damage to the enemy. The bosses blocked your strikes, pushed projectiles back at you, countered your powers. Even in the new jedi survivor game, you could stop time but it ended upon attacking and enemies just let you hit them. Jedi outcast they instantly speed up to you to counter
Jedi survivor has a perk that makes everything one-hit. Since the game wasn't designed around that, it gets old real fast.
the pure ethos of thinking youre hotshit before getting instantly eviscerated is infinitely better than whatever narrative shit they tried to implement into Fallen Order and other jedi games.
i dont really give two shits if he "never completed his training" or is "struggling with the dark side" or whatever writers' fumes you expect me to bask in while i play, nothing comes close to edgewalking into a duel with a single enemy knowing you could both die in a single hit. theres alot of back and forth between gameplay/story with these devs but they cant do either correctly. Novody gives a shit about your fledgling jedi moral lesson wank, they want to cut a dude in a hood in half, do a 180 and throw his friend off Bespin while hes halfway through a jumping overhead
a man has to choose stability. sometimes you find yourself accidentally choking half a loincloth and purple facepaint and dont really feel like lying about enjoying it
I replayed this a while back. Maybe a decade after I played it originally.
I realized this a game with a “that part” literally every single mission.
I still enjoy it, but I also concluded that it is also an overrated game.
its not overrated compared to its contemporaries and successors. you dont like it as much as others do but that doesnt place it in "overrated" just because of that.
that doesnt really work because real weaponry has weight, MovieBattles II was an overhaul of JK combat and implemented much better control over what you were doing but im still not really seeing this idea that there wasnt any to begin with being valid.
I'd say Jedi Academy gives you plenty control over lightsaber combat, hence why it's considered one of the most realistic representations of lightsaber combat in a star wars game ever
I replayed it last week and holy shit the difficulty spike after getting your lightsaber back is fricking savage, felt refreshing as frick
I like how the Jedi Knight series focused a lot on lightsaber combat and how realistic it was. Force Unleashed is great and all but I also like realistic lightsaber duels and this game definitely provides.

Still one of the cruelest twists in gaming.

i think its a passive at Force Speed 3 with a full bar. no idea i might be talking shit because my last playthrough was years ago

Say it

Your movies were dogshit and I don't care how much zoomer revisionism says otherwise, but you were great as the guy stamping out approvals for video games.
How many of you actually played these games on console? I can't imagine it was more known than the PC crowd.
i played it on GC, borrowed it from a friend on PC and then played it on PS4 when it rereleased, then played Academy on PC.
come to think of it ive played JK2 on consoles more times than ive played Academy on PC
I've played this game on Xbox and PC and it feels a lot more optimized on Xbox.
Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor were much better games because they were nearly 1:1 Sekiro clones.
bait

Sekiro but with shit gameplay yes
Why don't you just play Sekiro instead?
I play both while you seethe
You are a prime example of why Children shouldn't be allowed on the internet.
Glad I could help.
We have all of these stupid fricking souls clones but no one tries to make any not-Starwars starwars games.
i'm waiting for it to start hitting that point. Seth McFarlane did it with Star Trek and his show, why can't someone else just rip off Star Wars or Doctor Who or whatever and just get back to the roots of what made those things great before women and moronic executives ruined them?

sure i just went with visual mediums first because they started off as those but not-Jedi Knight IV or not-KOTOR 3 would kick fricking ass
What I don't understand is why there hasn't been lightsaber combat as good as a janky game from 2002 that used a modifed version of the Quake 3 engine.

You're up in da club and this dude walks up and slaps your girlfriend's ass - wat do?
Max Force Speed + strong style and hope he doesn't instantly lock me in his unescapable choke. It's rocket tag. Whoever lands the first move wins.
get my shit slapped because the fight is unwinnable at that moment in time
high five him, good taste
Master, I've sensed those visions you had of me. Tell me.... what is a futanari?
i dunno man, jan seems more stable for some reason

"That's a pretty cool level...but what if there was a random stealth section in it for no reason?"
-some utterly deranged dev, probably
Show yourself!
Mon Mothma must be getting paranoid. She never used to send pros like us out on blue milk runs like this.
Well you look like an overgrown Kowakian monkey-lizard, so I guess looks don't count for much. Hand er over...
If they make another Jedi Knight game, I would like them to copy Mordhau’s combat system. Give you more control over your attacks and blocks.
