good combat system
rich worldbuilding (that goes to shit in cold steel 3/4)
large cast of charming side characters
comfy tone in sky
kino in zero / azure
waifus in cold steel
that said, CS4 killed my desire to play any more games in the series any time soon. I was excited for reverie but now I couldn't care less
Story, characters and worldbuilding are the reason to play it until Cold Steel where it goes to shit. Apparently it gets a bit better after though.
What's unique about it compared to other story RPGs is how they keep building on the same setting even after 12 games

Ok that's good to hear because i'm not really interested in the gameplay for these types of games. I'll give them a go. heard they start off slow. we'll see
Don't listen to these morons who put weebshit above all other qualities, who play the fricking worst trash imaginable so long as it has cute characters in it.
Listen to me very carefully.
You're going to go find the PS1 fan translation of Tales of Phantasia, and play it on an emulator, and ignore everything else in the 'tales of' franchise.
Phantasia is the only one worth playing because it was the first and, as is with many cases, had the most effort put into its story and character and design because it had to initially impress audiences for them to give it a purchase rather than selling because of its name.
Every other 'Tales of' that followed was just riding on the coattails of Phantasia, being the exact same game after game after game with each one having a worse, more contrived plot, worse character, and less interesting worlds.
Phantasia had many excellent plot points and was based around old D&D tropes and Norse mythology sprinkled in which, let's face it, is the best mythology.
Trust me as someone can actually distinguish quality in a pile of weeb trash.
Everyone else will lie to you/
Yes I completely did.
I admit it.
That's how little interest I have left in the 'Tales of' series. I couldn't even recognize anything beyond Tales of Abyss because after I played that abomination, it was the last time I gave any 'Tales of' game a chance.
So you can forgive me for assuming this soulless/weeb looking "Trails of" game was yet another soulless/weeb 'Tales of' game shat out for the 50th time.

Finally the majority of western fans of the series who didn't play this game due to the lack of an official release can finally experience the true arrival of SinGOD.
I don't like Cold Steel games in general because they're modern JRPGs with everything that entails. When you think about it, Sky trilogy come out in mid-2000s and you can absolutely tell it was made differently.
I kinda liked Act 1. Act 3 and the Finale were okay too I guess but Act 2 had literally no reason to exist besides wasting time. It's so fricking absolutely shit.
That's how I feel about the majority of Sky SC. And CS2 for that matter. I've just come to accept that Falcom has no fricking idea how to end an arc. Azure is probably the least offensive of the "second games" imo. I can't speak for Kuro 2, I don't know nip or play machine translations.
How were the games before that? Is it worth starting this franchise?
Yeah. Cold Steel is great. If you're on PC, start with the Sky trilogy. Play in release order.
What's good about the games exactly? story, gameplay?

just remember trails in the sky is a slow burn, low stakes adventure until the ending.
Normal is piss easy in all the games so you can pretty easily just play for the story
>Normal is piss easy in all the games

CS1+2 are really one story, CS3 is kinda the cross-over and CS4 is what you got at the end.
it does. it really really does.
if you enjoy 500+ hours culminating in trash then sure.

This is the Trails thread, not the Tales thread.
Oh my bad.
I'll see myself out.
Did you get confused with trails and tales? Anyways, the fact that you wrote so much is convincing.
Yes I completely did.

I deeply appreciate getting to watch this exchange in real time. Man had real facts to spit but didn't know where to spit them.
watch a summary video on Trails in the Sky and start getting into Azure and Cold Steel.

Probably one of the most disappointing story I have ever experienced. MGSV takes the cake.
I don't like Cold Steel games in general because they're modern JRPGs with everything that entails. When you think about it, Sky trilogy come out in mid-2000s and you can absolutely tell it was made differently.
Can someone give me the rundown (reandown)?
CS4 is what happens when you turn the finale chapter into an entire game. 90% of it is a fricking waste of time.
I kinda liked Act 1. Act 3 and the Finale were okay too I guess but Act 2 had literally no reason to exist besides wasting time. It's so fricking absolutely shit.

Kuro 2 is basically a DLC stretched for the length of a full game and kinda drags. It's the middle game though, we're doing a trilogy this time.
Maybe the Kiseki curse is that every other game is bad, rather than finale games being bad, and Kuro will be the first series with a good finale?
>Every other game bad
>SC, Zero, CS1, CS3, Reverie, Kuro 2
I'd say I disagree with this more than I agree with it.
In each series, not overall. So SC, Azure, CS2, CS4, Kuro 2.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with Kuro 3 because 2 wrapped up almost every plot thread from 1 except the main mystery.
>we're doing a trilogy this time
lmao, just like we did for cs, right?
Filtered.
I can't get into the 1st one (not CS, but ToS)
Nah its great. I didnt expect to feel sad about not playing as haha man anymore but here we are
Tranime
you don't rike holding back or a last second savior showing up?
