Jet Set Willy is not only the quintessential scotformer on the Spectrum but it is also the originator of what would later be called Willyvania

Jet Set Willy was a sequel to Manic Miner, which was a rip-off of Miner 2049er on the atari.
sorry speccygay, jet set willy isnt the genesis you think it is
>miner 42069'er
Absolutely dull game and miner looks like a twat, only reasonably good version is Vic20.
>vic 20
kek no, the ColecoVision version beats all, skip to 6:47
PC 2009 reboot is clearly the winner, but that doesnt count.
CLIVE SINCLAIR, THE MAN WHO BROUGHT YOU JET SET FRICKING WILLY!
Is this movie kino? Had no idea it existed
yes its really good, its called Micro Men. a BBC drama from 2009 that covers the rivalry between Clive and the lesser known Chris Curry (the pioneer of the BBC Micro)
I second the other anons response anon. It's really worth a watch.
Clive Sinclair was truly great man and a visionary.
but Clive hated gamers and what the Speccy became.
So what I love programming it and the peripherals also Psion published things like Flight Simulators for it.
>Psion published things like Flight Simulators
>flight sim on a 48k calculator
impressive, how was this even achieved?
same for ralph baer. in his old age, he regretted that games were so violent and graphic, when all he had sought out to do was engineer something for simple entertainment
Manic Miner was indeed a rip-off Miner2049er, simply a way for trailblazer Matt Smith to flex his bedroomcore progger muscles and get his name out there.
Jay Ess Dub was a completely different game to its predecessor.
why do people like the ZX spectrum so much, statler?
because you'd have to be ON the spectrum to appreciate it
>why do people like the ZX spectrum so much
Brain damage, same reason you all drink tea at 4
tard confirm There are two kinds of men those who love the ZX Spectrum and other 8 Bit computers such as the Commodore 64 and BBC Micro, then there are those who do not love teh ZX Spectrum more commonly known as homosexuals. You are of the homosexual variety.
Church, I be on da spec, and I luv me speccy.
>it is also the originator of what would later be called Willyvania
What is Private Snafu, you c**t?
>blatantly obvious that only one linear path exists
>minor offshoots are supposed to be "open-ended"
>still billed as an exploration game
1944 and they're ALREADY ruining videogames
sad auster thread
Montevania*
Not a true Willy-like since it has stage-based progression instead of a proper open hub where you can explore anywhere.
Pitfall 2 for Arcade beats both to the punch by a year, and also created the minecart-riding gimmick that would later be seen in other classic scotformers such as Toki.
SEGAchads... we can't stop FRICKING WINNINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG YEAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHH
They all came out in 1984.
Calm down Captain S
>Pitfall 2
>Sega
the arcade version was made by Sega R&D2 and differs from the original quite a bit
So why does "vania" get to stay? Frick off. All Konami did was follow the trend.
I had an Amstrad, and played Jet Set Willy on there. It was an interesting game at the time, a bit nicer than those Amsoft releases (Roland in Time, etc.) but also very frustrating when you got stuck in one spot and lost all your lives at once.
But I actually never finished it, because it was too damn hard for me. Still a lot of fun to explore all the different rooms in that mansion.
There was another similar game (also on Amstrad) that I liked more, but can't remember much about it. It had some kind of industrial or factory theme. Been looking through rom sites and can't find it. Guess I'll just have to keep playing random games until I find it.
is it Everyones a Wally?
>some kind of industrial or factory theme
If we're talking Wally Week games Automania would fit the description better but I'm unsure it had an Amstrad version.
Blagger?
Dynamite Dan?
I didn't mind Roland in Time/Roland in Space.
You can't push willy round, willy won't go
