They're going to re-do Johto but as a re-imagining, rather than remake, because they already remade FRLG and HGSS and decided when it came to re-remake the games for the modern child to NOT go a retread remake of RG but go AU - isseki plot, new MC's the canon characters older and not part of the story, the events being cleared by the new self-insert. LGHL will be the same - AU, probably another blatant isseki, the OG MC's running around but older and irrelevant to the plot of of the new MC's stopping neo TR trying to get LGPE-Giovanni back to Base and meeting Ho-Oh/Lugia for the Kimono crew.

Same basic plot AU setting "re-imagining" title. Game Freak are autistic about this shit though, it's AU. Red didn't stop Giovanni in LGPE like he did in canon. Thus LGHL, following on from LGPE will similarly be AU non-canon to the core events of their timeline.

I think including the regionals and cross-gen evolutions actually makes sense. LGPE gave us regional forms and megas, which patched up the type distribution in that game. HGSS gave us some of the new evolutions in the regular pokédex, also patching up some of the stuff with that game. It makes a ton of sense they would do both with this game, and considering that we now have quite a few more Johto evolutions as well as regionals WTF not? It would help significantly with the power level and distribution in the original Johto region for sure. I just hope that they bring back actual battle mechanics to catch wild Pokémon
