Because the Phantom Thieves targets are people who force others to bend to their will using their own non-supernatural reigns of power. It's powerful people getting the script flipped. They also stop at changing their target's conscience. Ann wouldn't let Kamoshida kill himself even though that asswipe honestly deserved it.
Never played Strikers, please tell me they mention the only hearts they change are the ones distorted from their original selves brought about by manipulations from people abusing the Collective Consciousness and that he's completely misunderstanding the point of the Phantom Thieves.
P5 is honestly the most frustrating megaten game I've ever played. So many times I wanted characters to frick off, and yet every time I have to coddle them to get their confidant rank up. The direction of the story is extremely predictable and honestly not at all what I wanted to do (right from the second palace I wanted to tell ryuuji to shut the frick up about being famous or getting the name out, and I wanted to throw mishima into an active volcanoe right from the start)
Near the end you "learn your lesson" but I've been saying it at the screen since the very beginning, yet my character has to act all repentant and shit, frick off
4 wasn't like this because rather than glory hunting you were actively solving a serial murder case and in 3 you were doing an actual job for an actual organization, rather than having friends that sucked your dick they were more like your coworkers and the stakes were saving the whole world
They never had a counterargument to any point related to affecting cognition since they're hypocrites for doing it.
