I'm a translator and the first thing you learn is to be true to the original and to NEVER insert your own interpretation or politics. This is an insult to my profession regardless of what "side" you are on and it pisses me off to no end. The artistic expression comes from finding elegant ways to fit the subs without taking away from the original meaning while making sure that people from the target culture are able to understand it, injecting your opinions and inherently changing the meaning of something is objectively a terrible translation.

And what does that have to do with editors and corporate guidelines? I mean, I'd like for this fantasy to come true too despite being a translator myself (though I'm working on transitioning out f this dead end career because I stopped enjoying it a long time ago). But it's not. Even if every Japanese company majorly changed how they did localization and somehow stopped bad translators and editors from touching their work, there's still going to be censorship because the companies make excuses like "Well, Americans won't like that!"
