As if the original is the any better. All fantasy jarpigs aimed at the shonen demographic has objectively terrible voice acting much like anime of the same kind.
>As if the original is the any better
Original is voice acting. Eng dubs are people who never took acting classes in their entire life trying to imitate actors.
Did they finally say whether or not the Dragon Quest 3 HD remake is still a thing? Or are we still waiting for them to say literally anything about it?
TO and FFT are much better battle systems, and the focus on the dating sim shit doesn't give me hope for it. More than that, I don't feel like emulating a Switch game that should get a PC version.
I remember being 12 and watching some stand-up comedian explain his Final Fantasy play-through and him calling nintendo hotline. The whole bit was just him explaining the game and how he fought God.
>the protagonist was secretly the Dark Lord Xeron but with amnesia the whole time and everything Chipchip did was to prevent him from regaining his memories
Use the patch because it will probably be a better experience than what NISA will give you. If you buy the official version on Steam, then you'll still get NISA's localization as well because they're just patching it in like they did with Nayuta.
my brother is currently playing the fan translation and he told me aside from being a kinda buggy, the translation is pretty fricked at times, near incomprehensible or just weird. i'd rather just wait i think.
I was going to get Dragon's Dogma 2 and Unicorn Overlord a few months after release. I didn't know there was a Suikoden remake or a new Mana game. Decapolice seems neat. Yet to play a Ys, Kiseki, Yakuza 7, or Atelier but have been meaning to.
>CRPG and JRPG denote distinct design approaches to adapting tabletop RPG to computer games.
CRPG does. JRPG just means RPG made in Japan, the same way WRPG means game made in the west. JRPG does not mean "anime RPG like FF or DQ" no matter how mad morons playing From games or indie devs ripping off Mother get.
Its not just RPG made in Japan because that would be a completely meaningless term that would never have been created in the first place, let alone stuck around, the same way how there are no JAction, JStrategy and whatnot.
JRPG exists because it denotes a distinct subgenre, not country of origin.
>Its not just RPG made in Japan
It is unless you're a moron. >the same way how there are no JAction, JStrategy and whatnot.
Yeah sure. And no Jpop music, either.

Jpop is a distinct subgenre of pop, you do know that, right?
And people have given it the J especially because its different to there rest of the pop on radio.

Jpop is pop from Japan. There are no American or Korean Jpop groups.

I don't know if there are or aren't. Nothing is topping a bunch of for example Irish gals to make a song that would be sonically indistinguishable from Jpop though.

>I don't know if there are or aren't
There aren't, because there can not be. Just like you can't make sparkling wine in your basement and call it champagne, and you can't make an RPG with "anime aesthetics" and call it a JRPG. Well you can, but you'd be wrong.

That's not true, because if I came to you and told you hey buddy I have a great new JRPG to recommend you, it's like the best JRPGs that you love (Chrono Trigger or FF7 or whatever you like), and then gave you something like lets say original Fallout, or Underrail or Morrowind but was made in Japan, you would be miffed. These are nothing like a typical JRPG.
The same would work vice-versa, a guy that likes Morrowind, Underrail etc. and you give him Persona or whatever.

CT, KH2 and Dragon's Dogma are all JRPGs and I like them all.

Your moron definition of JRPG wasn't even in line with the original DQ and FF games.
CRPG means Computer RPG, as opposed to Tabletop RPG.
JRPG is a subgenre with distinct design approach that focuses more on linearity and anime trope storytelling compared to regular PRGs which try to capture the tabletop roleplaying experience with robust character and party building geared towards dungeon crawling, choices in dialogue, world reactivity etc.
The subgenre obviously emerged step-by-step, which is again why games like SMT and even early FF/DQ have more similarities with CRPGs than do their modern installments.
Of course, there are hybrid games that blend both styles as well, usually made in Japan (Dark Spire, Etrian Odyssey etc.).
>that focuses more on linearity and anime trope storytelling
Except that doesn't fit the early FF and DQ games.

Yeah, which is what I said.
Though it actually describes early DQ very well, since in interviews it has been stated numerous times they tried to make the game more like an anime to appeal to a broader and younger audience than what played RPGs in Japan till then, hence why they hired Akira Toriyama to make the character designs.
I'm playing it now, it really is great. The developers said they put all their ideas that didn't make it into the first game into it and that they're not thinking about making a third one for now, so it's very possible it won't continue.
I was doing a thing with a friend of mine where each of us picked the character with the starting job the other picked in the first game. I picked Ophilia and he picked Alfyn, so this time I picked Castti and he picked Temenos. Otherwise my pick would've been Osvald.
Both of you have surprisingly good taste. As someone who picked Alfyn/Castti I can respect the hustle. Especially with how good Castti is in this game. Unironically capable of scouting the entire map by herself with how powerful her Latent Ability is.
I'm learning so much from this board when it comes to jrpgs, it really helps me update my IEPs for my students for behavioural rewards.
Thanks OP, i'll tell Kevin he won at everything next time I see him playing FireEmblem when he's in timeout!
Second row middle get that fraud out of there. Dude has never made an RPG in his life. Rhythm dance visual novels and crying on camera don't count. Otherwise good list.

They were probably thinking “I sure hope people like Tomoyo Kurosawa, Kaito Ishikawa, Ami Koshimizu, Masaya Matsukaze and Nanako Mori’s voices”
Which I do
Not even making any comment on the game; it’s actually kinda sad that any Japanese dev would think jrpg has only negative connotations overseas solely because of how journalists use the term with derision
It’s kinda funny that he hates jrpgs and wanted to copy the west so hard but all his westernized games flopped while classic jrpgs sold a shitload in recent years

Yeah? Journos use it to devalue and shit on Japanese made RPGs >Why are you saying don't call your RPG a JRPG, I don't get it?
I'm going to need a Physicist with a israeli surname to figure this one out.

You forgot random semicolons or "Re:"s in the title
When did that become a thing, anyhow?
>pointless fanservice
>bad voice acting
Alright redditor, settle down.
Honestly anyone who plays dubbed has no right to complain about voice acting
Redditors are fricking stupid, what else did you expect
Not everyone plays Japanese
Fine, just don’t complain as if you should’ve expected any better. Especially when you have an easy workaround to the issue

every time, without fail
Did they finally say whether or not the Dragon Quest 3 HD remake is still a thing? Or are we still waiting for them to say literally anything about it?
They probably saw its moronic to make a 2dhd remake instead of just selling a DQ Pixel Collection like FF
Horii said development is going well a couple months ago. Sit tight and trust Enix.
DD2, Suikoden and DQ3 are the only good games there.
What do you have against Ogre Battle, anon?

Elden Ring is not a JRGP.
And no, being made in Japan is not what makes a game JRPG.
>Being made in Japan does not make a game a Japanese Role Playing Game
How do you figure?
CRPG and JRPG denote distinct design approaches to adapting tabletop RPG to computer games.
Elden Ring has more in common with CRPGs like Ultima Underworld than Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.
BTW before Dragon Quest Japan made many RPGs all of which are all in the Wizardry CPRG style.

Says who?
You can further see the Wizardry CRPG influence in some Japan made RPGs like SMT.
>And no, being made in Japan is not what makes a game JRPG.
Yes it is, moron.
I fricking love Octopath Traveler 2, it was such a good game. Square should unironically stop making the series now and let it die at it's peak.

Railroad RPGs.

Only one I'm looking forward too is Unicorn Overlord and the new Saga game.
For me it's Mario, the most important JRPG hero.
DQ9 remake when
Shortly after the English release of DQX Offline.
