After replaying all of them, I realized 999 was peak of Uchikoshi's career. It's sad.

AI is his peak of character writing. 999 is his peak climax.

Remember11 was where he peaked. He didn't even get to finish the story before the publisher forced him to ship it out the door, and it was STILL the best thing he made. Ever17 and Never7 were also quite good and I highly recommend them.

Remember11 could never finish because the writers kept escalating instead of concluding. It's like the only thing they knew how to write was rising action.

      This

What did you not like about it?

NTA but, I was going in and told this was going to be a solid mystery title. The whole Olympic/Titanic stuff reminded me of "Adventure out of Time".

But then it also has shitty anime antics (that convo between the main character and his love interest), and then goes off the rails into, what I can best describe as "anime plot stuff", where instead of having a solid mystery that get's solved, it spirals into magic power bullshit and assy twists on twists to keep someone guessing at the benefit of the writer vs letting someone figure shit out.

I prefer my mysteries when I can figure them out on my own with clues given, not have all my guesses be slapped out and told it was a time travel psychic link bullshit.

Hmm but the characters do hint at metaphysical shenanigans in every single room. The morphogenetic field theory was brought up twice before the climax.

        t. didn't even notice June always got a fever when you entered a doomed timeline because she was going to end up getting the 6 million treatment.

          this never made any sense
young june can see all timelines, she follows Junpeis actions from every single route until she finds one where he can hear her info from other timelines she watched and he reaches the sudoku
since she can see all timelines she always finds the solution and always survives
her actions in failed timelines don't influence her survival at all, she already depends on witnessing failed timelines to survive

            Anonymous

Junpeis supposed to go through the failed timelines to get information that the other characters tell him, so he does exactly what is needed to get past door 9 and into the incinerator. The other characters are literally there to give him information.

              Anonymous

Junpei doesn't get information from failed timelines, June beams it to Junpei after witnessing it in failed timelines
All he can do is receive information from her

June doesn't retroactively vanish because the ZE universe doesn't work like that, if it did then Phi would be gone in 90% of the VLR timelines

Phi WAS gone in 90% of the timelines, you just didn't play them

June's connection to Junpei is one way until the Sudoku. She even describes it as watching two movies at the same time. But yeah, the vanishing doesn't make any sense.

999 is shit, Uchi can't write shit
He corners himself with shit writing to asspull out of the situation, repeat it 10 times
This is true route of VN. No explanation other than "it was supposed to be like that, all according to June visions"

    Hold on just a moment...
Mummy... Ship... Vanished... I think I remembered something! That mummy, her name was Alice. Some guy bought her frozen body off the black market, and he never told a soul about what he did with her. One day, a friend of his asked him where Alice was, only to be told that she was hidden in a forest. They never could find Alice's body.
Coincidentally, I have an Egyptian friend named Alice. She's a huge b***h though, even worse than Lotus. Cold as ice.

Why is that part considered significant enough to shitpost about? Is it because that's around where everybody ends up dropping the game out of boredom like I did?

Even after beating the game I didn't realize that the bottom screen was supposed to be Akane's thoughts. I learned it from reading a wiki and felt like a huge moron.

It's not really made clear at all and I don't even think it's true or makes sense for every scene in the game. This might just be some bullshit that was made up after the fact just because it sounds cool.

Play any version that's not on the DS and you don't have to deal with that pretentious nonsense

VLR is better until it isn't. It writes a lot of checks that ZTD doesn't cash in

        Anonymous

that's the best way to put it.
VLR is great until you realize all the smaller details that blow in its own game, double so when none of its follow ups end up mattering.

thats a ZTD problem, not a VLR problem.
