Just bought Risk of Rain Returns, it's my first experience with the series and I'm just baffled at how dead it is.
Didn't this come out a month ago or so? Is this the masterpiece with all the positive Steam reviews?
Where are all the players?

I did, only one showed up which had a Spanish lobby name
Works on my machine
True
What's your fav char?
Maybe because I'm in EU? Idk man
Pilot is really good, his abilities all feel powerful and he's got movement tech to speed up the slowness of the first couple stages
Merc is always fun
Sniper always shreds
wtf
>Sniper always shreds
its hilarious how basically everything about that character is comically broken when it comes to helping sustain his massive damage output
>has extremely high damage abilities
>oh he also gets higher base damage and damage per level up too, which means he is even stronger and even better with on-kills
>also he has higher base HP regen as if he was a risky character
>also he has higher than average movespeed
>also he has slightly higher than average health
Yes and it's based. Luv me snoipa
It's a shame his alts aside from quickscope are shit, but he really doesn't need em anyway
Which X is better when it comes to DPS? I want to keep the default X because I like the idea of setting up a massively powerful killshot, but Quickscope looks very versatile and everyone keeps praising it.
Quickscope is better DPS-wise I believe. But setting up the big coomshot is always fun so it's really down to personal preference, both are strong.
Commando lives by his alts unfortunately. Really when you play him you're going to at least be using one of them, you can mix and match since all his options are good but all vanilla commando is still very underwhelming.
Now compare it with arti, a survivor with low hp, basically no movement except an unlockable skill with huge cooldown, a close range attack with pitiful damage and even worse if enemies aren't in a certain sweet spot, and a wall with set health that becomes useless after stage 2 and to top it off 2 of her skills slow her
>except an unlockable skill with huge cooldown
Do they unironically just hate Artificer and want her to be bad? Whose idea was it to put a generic semi-useful dash ability on a TWELVE seconds cooldown? It boggles the fricking mind.
Have you ever played 2? She's dog shit there as well
shes actually good in ror2 if you are actually good at the game & spend a bit figuring her out, with default kit
rorr arti on the other hand spits on most of what ror2 arti had going for her & what made her more interesting to play, and cant overcome her downsides with skill
>n-no she's actually go-
No, she is shit. Easily the worst survivor in 2 by miles. She is disgustingly bad, especially compared to the actually good survivors in that game. Stop pretending she is anything other than a dead weight.
>compared to the actually good survivors
homie basically every survivor in ror2 is good with some loadouts. even huntress with her shit damage.
You arent doing a good job of convincing someone is bad if you out yourself as a shitter that thinks good survivors are somehow not the crushing majority
I have, but my 13 year old laptop is incapable of running the game above 15 FPS so I played exclusively Engi and my wife Huntress. I also didn't play for long because I realized how much of A SHIT RoR2 is.
It's A FRICKING SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT.
>is incapable of running the game above 15 FPS
have you tried setting textures to 1/128?
It's been years since I played 2, so I don't remember exactly what I was doing, but I do remember doing everything I could to dump the graphics into the absolute minimum.
What's pozzed about the first Risky? I know HotPoo is a BLM homosexual and generally a bad person, but I don't think any of that is in the first game.
This is NOT the first game.
yeah its the first game but better
but shit*
Are you gonna bore me with irrelevant semantics or are you gonna get to the point on what the pozzing is?
You have to waste red crates to reduce the cooldown, or forget it. Arti got done dirty.
sniper kinda needs all that shit to work
he really doesnt, he is overpowered as frick right now
Just like in 1. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Teach me to zoom as a pilot. Pilot is such a shit I hate him more than Artificer, to the point where I thought you were just doing a bit saying his abilities feel powerful. Maybe if I learn2zoom - I'll be able to have fun playing him.
He's not that complicated, his abilities are just all individually powerful
>primary is a solid piercing laser
>secondary is a homing, map ignoring shredder
>mobility is either parachute for vertical synergy + stun or a really good dash that doubles as wall climb and triples as b-hop booster
>4th ability gives you decently efficient mines or an ability to just tag something for 1200% while you frick off to do something else
to hop as pilot you just dash into the floor and hold jump without holding directional keys
I like his alt primary more which is bad for me because I know only his default primary is any good.
His X is very good, can't argue with that.
His C is functional.
His R sucks ass. Too slow and too little damage.
But what really gets me is his glass HP. He dies from fricking anything. Literally playing Arti I felt less squishy than with this c**t. I like to think that after having unlocked all the content in the game I'm at least not a total shitter, but I get mogged on Pilot even if I get good items.
Never got the impression HP matters much after a certain point, while being nimble is always relevant
It only doesn't matter if you're looping, or maybe at a skill level far and beyond mine. I always get some chip damage here and there, stepping on a blazing trail, getting a but greedy with an overloaded elite, jumping around in melee, etc. And with Pilot chip damage constantly becomes chunk damage. Being nimble doesn't do much if you can't kill an enemy while avoiding all those hits, and if you expect me to play it so safe with pilot that I'm never to be hit by anyone at all - then I might as well stop bothering with someone so squishy and go back to playing with my wife Huntress. She can take a more severe beating AND her kit is way morell fun to play while kiting.
I think his alt primary is way better. The piercing seems powerful, but its overall lower single target DPS, less procs, has much lower range, and you realize you don't even need piercing because his X.
His X might be the best ability in the game. It's actually insane. It pierces, auto targets in a huge cone, can let you cheese like 90% of the enemies since you can hit them at weird angles that they can't do anything about, and slightly buffs his mobility.
His parachute I think is trash, and tricks into a shitty playstyle that doesn't work. Once you can consistently wavedash, his utility is super powerful and versatile. It can very easily save a minute or more finding the teleporter each level, so the scaling is a joke compared to every other class. You also underestimate how much safety you get from practically teleporting a screen away from whatever.
His R is probably the weakest. I think the alt one is bad, but I just treat the primary one as damage that'll do something eventually. With his X, you really don't need any more damage is the thing. It also serves an an extra jump when you wave dash, and you can break fall damage with it which is nice since you wont need to waste your C doing that.
If all I care about is lower difficulty scaling - I can just become a drizzlet with an actually fun character instead. His X is good, but not good enough to carry the entire character for me.
>Pilot is such a shit
Anon i think you might just be bad at the game
Not going to argue against that. But even then, I can at least manage a win on Rainstorm with any character, even Artificer didn't feel so horrible. But this character just murders my resolve, I can't afford to catch even a single cheeky stray bullet without a total negation item like cloak or heart. Every character before this I had to do some occasional tactical retreats and whatnot, but overall I would stay well within the heart of the skirmish. This bastard just forces me to chicken out of any serious engagement because he just cannot for the life of him scrap for shit.
On that note, I did get a win with him just now by having to resort to being a giga-pussy, so I guess I can see myself getting consistent wins with him, but what I can't see is myself having any fun with the little gobshite.
Hunter's Harpoon is a shit too. So is Decaying Sample. Coffee is only "good" because it dilutes the loot pool and makes you less likely to catch a mitt, but 10 coffees are just straight up worse than 5 hoofs and 5 syringes.
That said, some unlockables are really fricking good. Prophet's Cape is nigh red tier. Toxin is insane unless I'm misunderstanding something.
i found unlocks overall made the game a lot easier
i struggled beating monsoon as arti with the pool akin to the default, but then i got some more shit and i can actually do it half the time now, everyone else basically never loses when im really trying
Ye I'd probably kill myself if I had to play Pilot without at least the peophet's cape. And the laser turbine helped me an alright bit with making up for his damage.
I really love the unlockable that gives your drones rockets and mortars. Really makes them feel a lot more punchy when you have like 10 rockets barrelling towards an enemy at all times.
>default merc but with alternate dash
>alt merc with his comically stupid and busted parry
>miner in general
>sniper unless its multiplayer because i feel like im ruining the fun
this. also drifter is op with his alt
pilot and commando are fun and strong also
huntress is ideal for beg (and pros also)
>What's your fav char?
My wife Huntress, with alt X. Getting several backup mags and becoming a human incarnation of Hollow Knight's White Palace is fun and satisfying. Plus she's very nimble and with balanced health and a good no-nonsense R that works against both crowds and single targets.
I also like merc with alt X. I just wish I could execute it during the Providence fight.
Loader with alt X and alt R is fun to play. Alt R covers DPS deciency in early ge and even still works wonderfully at any stage of the game that isn't Command looping. And his C is just so good it's fricking absurd. Any time I'm going hunting for journal entries or prism shards I go Loader.
>I just wish I could execute it during the Providence fight.
why cant you?
I managed to get the hang of her and win consistently in monsoon, her judgment is also easy. Shes just an extreme version of what ror2 flamethrower had.
And yeah, every skill of hers besides flamethrower is kinda shit, so she can get shafted by volatiles and overloading sometimes
basically
>ror2 flamer arti
>a higher skill character whose flaws are moreso something different that can be perfectly compensated by getting good at the character
>has some unique qualities if you ignore broken characters
>rorr arti
>pointlessly exageratedly harder to play than everyone else
>her flaws are flaws that will always suck and you get better at coping with them rather than getting good at dodging them
>has some cool strenghts and would seem like a fine character in a vacuum once mastered, if you ignore the fact several characters can do the same thing but better and easier
>why cant you?
Because I'm a blind shitter who can't barely spot Providence during the fight, let alone watch his animations closely enough to catch him in a parry.
maybe go arrive at his fight with a prophet's cape and a guardian heart. that way you arent fricked if you miss
Dont frick with his 1hp skull attack though
Just set to zoom to x2 for the fight if its that hard to see
Nobody plays with randos
Risk of Rain isn't fun with random people.
people barely play pubs as opposed to private lobbies
Due to random not sharing items everyone play private
I play with muh gf irl so we can share item better then rando
And I can prop her up by feeding her items lol
Didn't 2 have item sharing?
Only via mods
I can't imagine playing these games with randos but they're great with friends
I also pop her up on my wiener while you're away lol
yeah sorry bro
you probably have it firewall blocked
People really don't play pubs with randos in risky. Check /vm/ for lobbies.
How do I into commando?
His single target and aoe damage is absolute ass till he gets a bunch of on-hit items.
I'm unironically having an easier time with artificer even if she's only has one decent skill in her entire default and alt skill set.
get commando's shotgun, makes him *way* better
theres also the knife. the knife makes him plenty stronger combined with the shotgun, but much harder to use. But if you play multiplayer OR get backup mags for multiplicative stacking of the damage boost, it becomes insane
Have you tried his alt abilities? The R seems like a straight upgrade, and his knoife gives you a 50% damage boost to the victims.
Does anyone still have that picture showcasing all Judgement skins? I don't wanna 100% that trial right now so I just wanna decide which skin I'll consider worth going for.
Nobody?
What's the catch with Toxin? You know, the white item from the illegal shipment. 30% bonus damage from ALL sources on a white item. I'm just trying to figure out what the drawback is.
I got 100 hours out of the first game, what's new?
worth buying or its just a new coat of paint and I'm better just pirating it?
fricker it should have been an update for the original game. Or give the original game owners a discount. Black person.
>whats new?
a frickton of things
>characters have alt skills
>new items and content
>new enemies, some enemies have new cooler things
>plenty of new secrets
>judgment trials meme mode which unfortunately holds a lot of unlocks
>new artifacts
>with unlocks comes new challenges
>a few new core mechanics/interactables
>neutral
blighted enemies are less moronly strong (still super fricking strong and tanky) but more common. still monsoon exclusive
>any downsides?
they made a few frickups on the controls, like how you cant dash into a rope
but overall its far superior than the first game
>please buy our cashcow again
Waiting for some people to play with, host is here:

Not working for me.
kb or controller?
KB+Mouse.
Keyboard with wasd to move
Frick purists moving with arrow keys is an ancient relic from the 90's
Did anyone unlock this guy? Is it as autistic as I think it is after reading a guide?
it is cryptic and silly to unlock, but he's a silly little guy so its whatever
hes just worse commando with small hitbox shenanigans and a lotta charm, best character
>can't shoot while moving backwards
gay
should I use a controller or keyboard?
t. ror2 zoomercattle
>can't shoot while moving backwards
You can with Commando.
You can do that with most rabged characters, baring some EXTREMELY gay abilities like Huntress's alt primary.
most people dont play with randoms. i play the game every day, and i always play with several proper friends.
Picked it up a few weeks ago and have been having loads of fun with it. Local co-op is great except when someone gets snared by a geyser. Engineer is my favorite, followed by Enforcer. Unlocked Pilot a night ago and am having fun wrapping my head around the movement options.
Do you guys cheese unlocks on Drizzle? Some guides say to do that but I'm enjoying the progression grind on Rainstorm. I also don't want to pick up bad habits playing on an easier difficulty.
I finished the game once on drizzle solo, for the rest I just frick around in rainstorm pub lobbies
Might try to 100% it one day on drizzle but for now I'm just having fun
I cheesed one singular unlock on Drizzle - killing an overloaded magma worm as a loader. And the ONLY reason I did it was because I killed it on Rainstorm THREE times and not once did it count for the unlock for some star-forsaken reason.
The progression is a part of the fun. It's like if you were told to play any RPG on the easiest difficulty until your entire party is maxed out, and only then switch to medium or harder. It's asinine.
Drizzle cheese is for leftists, game journos, and worst of them all RoR2 players.
Most of the items suck ass and are actively detrimental to unlock
The game could use a smash bros style item filter honestly
I'd like more options in general like that, Shartstorm has loads of game options so kinda disappointing Returns didn't have that as well
It's bizarre given the game gives you so many ways to customize its difficulty curve, just seemed like laziness
Youre thinking of ror2 my friend. Unless you unlocked voltic mit, but you have to go out of youre way for that one
RoR2s shit items were temporary, with how easy it was to transmute them into something valuable
In returns if you get a streak of shit items you might as well reset because you're never getting back on the curve
idk why the devs seem obsessed with having good items be good because they are the 10% of items that arent hot garbage
this is such a shitter complaint
>most items are bad
no youre just stupid
>might as well restart
it genuinely takes 1-2 items to fix a bad run in terms of defense
the game needs far less dmg items than ror2 due to slower scaling
adaptive chests are ridiculously overpowered if youre not a reactionlet
if you slog to the final stage, its basically impossible not to get a huge power spike from its 994523 chests
its also moronic for ror2 because ror2's white item pool is insanely overpowered
>its another 3steak, 3fungus, 2slug, 2personal shield generator, 3teddy by stage 3 run
>2 slug
homie enough healing to beat a 6-stage run to mithrix
>2 psg
homie 16% health nice
>3 teddy
who hates teddy
and i dare you to show me one screenshot of a run that bad that didnt blatantly skip 4983242 items for no reason
i cant believe you homosexuals manage to be so trash at ror2, easily the most consistent roguelike ive ever played
Now take a screenshot of your drizzlet runs
havent played in a couple days
half these losses are multiplayer
>can't even consistently win with sniper
>pretends the game is totally balanced
oh my dayz
I was attempting Artifact of Origin. The sniper attempts were multiplayer with morons
I have never lost a single sniper run where i was actually trying, in fact, my last 10~ runs where i actually tried were all wins
>game is totally balanced
no but your complaints about said balance are almost all exclusively moronic
meant to write
>first loss is artifact of origin, the second failed attempt was multiplayer
I never win any runs because I cheated every unlock and loop until I die
based actual risk of rain enjoyer
Frick the roguelite meta progression grind, I just want to loop until like 200 overloaded magma worms ram my anus apart
>it genuinely takes 1-2 items to fix a bad run in terms of defense
You can get lucky, but on average you won't
RoRR is awful with how much control you have over your character
I cheesed a lot of unlocks on drizzle with the appropriate artifacts. Some of the challenges are really stupid and specific, and I'd rather play my runs "normally" with stuff unlocked over having to go out of the way on a "real" run to do tedious shit. Stuff like killing 8 elders as miner without losing scorching or engi's fricking beam drone are so specific and tedious they're begging for you to cheese them.
I did all the provi challenges legitimately so that's where the bulk of tedium will come from anyway.
modding tools when?
merc's parry is the most fun thing in this game by far but the fricked AI makes it pretty inconsistant with some enemies
>go so fast on pilot that i launch into the terrain and get stuck
outplayed myself I guess
>risk of pozzed
It's worse than the original in every way that matters.
It's bad because...?
Even emptier maps, shittier unlocks (Providence trials or snail pace), more cancerous enemies, attack moving is maximum jank, Reds feel weaker than Whites. Also did jack shit to fix RoR1's blatant shortcomings like the terrible rope climbing and not playing zoomed out being a handicap.
Yep I'm thinking it's shit tier
trying too hard
>attack moving is maximum jank
thank god Im not the only one who noticed this. Wtf is wrong with the game because attack moving feels like shit when I can kite for days in other games just fine
>Pilot (with dash)
>Glass
>Command
>Honor
>Spite
>That one that makes mountain challenges infinitely stack
Basically the most fun way to play the game. Pilot has kind of ruined the game for me, and I basically can't stand any of the other characters with how sluggish they feel, especially through the first loop.
>play for the first time
>beat game on first run
wtf this feels easier than it used to be, am i moronic?
i just play private lobbies with my bros, sorry.
all of sniper's alt skills feel like shit to use
Literally, in the truest sense of the word, I have never played RoR nor RoR2 MP. Ever! What would I be in for?
no communication and item hogging with people leaving soon after they die, also a lot want command on
with non randos a fun time if you actually communicate and share
So I'd need friends? Guess I'll stick to SP. Thanks!
IS THERE REALLY NO IMAGE OF JUDGEMENT SKINS ANYMORE? I JUST WANNA KNOW WHICH ONES ARE GOOD REEEEEEEEEEE.
the new fungal caverns is giving me cancer. In fact all the new maps are too fricking big and finding the teleporter feels way less consistant
no mul-T
no buy
