>has a good overworld theme
So good they made a vocal theme of it for Lightning Returns and that was good they ripped it off for FF14's climax expansion >LR
I enjoyed 2 the most out of 1, 2 and 3. 1 is interesting as the most barebones entry in the franchise. 2 has weird mechanics and I liked them even if they're a bit stupid. 3 was utter slop.
Shut the frick up I'm sick of people shitting on ff15 and 13! Everyone was salty because the series tried to change and evolve while you purist homosexuals want it to stay old and outdated.
This is so clearly bait you numbnut. Nobody likes those games. The only people who do are homosexuals who are kingdom hearts fans. The last good game in this franchise was 9. 12 was ok enough but after that it's been shitter after shitter
I haven't played 16 yet however. I hear it's good and it looks alright but it just looks less final fantasy than the last 4 games have.
Typically when you purchase a game, the idea is to (at the very least) play the game eventually. Infact that's what you normally do after buying ANYTHING.
This just tells me people need to buy games they know they like or even play.
I see this problem where people have this compulsion to buy everything that comes out and anything that has come out. It's this weird thing where "gamers" need to play every game that comes out even if it's a series, genre, or some other 3rd thing they don't like. It's also kinda like the idea of saying you need to play every game in the series, and it's spin offs, and watch the movies, read the books, manga and sniff the series directors shit. People should just play whatever they want. If you only like best em ups, play beat em ups, if you like 3rd person shooter, play those games. Not hard.
I-III are pretty boring in general. IV is only good if you're invested in the story, and even then it's mediocre. V is the last time Square even attempted to design and balance a video game proper. VI is homosexualshit that paved the way for the movie that is VII and all those to come. Pixel Remaster is gay. Final Fantasy is a shit tier franchise. Square was never good, frick you Black folk for pretending the merger killed Square. Square killed Square, the merger was a result of that attempted suicide. Dragon Age II of all fricking things is more of an RPG than Final Fantasy ever was, and it has better action mechanics than these new "ARPG" iterations of FF. >tl;dr
Frick Final Fantasy. Suck a modestly-sized black wiener.
Yeah there's like fifty-thousand afterbirth threads every hour and Square have spent almost 40 years ruining video games. You're damn right I'm salty.
Shame you'll never know what it feels like to love something.
Good thing I like FF6 and 9. Else id hate my life like every other ff7 fan. Tho I hear 9 will eventually get fricked soon enough. Mabey I'll relate sooner rather than later.
yes, there are no classes, every character is a blank slate and all their stats and spells level up the more they're solicited, that means the best way to raise your hp famously involves attacking your own guys repeatedly
I honestly don't get the disdain for FF2, compared to 1 and 3. It played exactly the same; like shit. It did however introduce a storyline to the fold. Wasn't a great story, but it was better than the nothing that was FF1, so yeah it's an improvement.
If anything I'd say FF3 is the disappointing child. It mildly expanded on FF1's jobs, but it made no effort to involve them in any different way. Then the story is just the same, but even worse. It was essentially just a DLC skin pack for FF1, that carried over some worldbuilding aspects of FF2, but made less cohesive and with zero attempt at characterization.
Frick FF3.
>I honestly don't get the disdain for FF2
People see that they can have their characters do anything, and then feel the need to excessively grind so their characters can do EVERYTHING. And then once they've got everyone to 9999HP dual wield heavy armor they proceed to get assfricked by Undead type enemies because "nice 0 Evasion stat homosexual"
1 is perfectly fine. It actually had pretty good gameplay for its time, and the story was serviceable.
2's gameplay was shit back then, and it's shit nowadays. Even ignoring the actual dogshit bottom of the barrel combat and mechanics the exploration and dungeons were a giant step down from FF1
Don't disagree on 3 though
What is so bad about FFIIs combat compared to FFI? You mostly select your monsters and attack them. They also made all spells being capable to single or multi-target.
I think a lot of people didn't understand Armor/Weapon Penalties which makes magic suck ass.
Which, to be fair, the Penalty system is something the game does SHIT FRICK ALL to explain
There's nothing wrong with II's story. It's the rebellion getting fricked repeatedly until you luck out on a string of victories. Then you go to hell and kill the emperor to a nice soundtrack. It's probably the best depiction of the power of an evil Empire in the series.
Pixel Remaster has no grinding, which I'm assuming is what OP is talking about since his picture is from the remaster.
Honestly the PR doesn't have much of anything. You just walk from setpiece to setpiece and let autobattle do the work. White Magic isn't even really necessary, especially in FF2. The only fight you need to vaguely pay attention to are the final bosses, and by then you should have money coming out the ass to buy 99 Phoenix Downs/Hi-Potions.
Game's a honest to God joke.
Yeah, I just finished it last week. Actually I played it twice. Once blind, having not played FF2 in like 20 years. Then with some research. Turns out the rebalance pretty much did just that; removed the gameplay. Game is easy enough as is, but you can also max evasion before midway with the right gear, and not by grinding exploits or finding specific gear. You just equip one shield to every character and play the game normally. You'll hit 90+ evasion before b***hes start dying off. Currently playing FF3 and it's a joke too, but it was never really grind-heavy anyway. I figured part of the PR would be to rebalance the games to be more involving, but they're the opposite. May as well have called it the Journalism Remaster.
Music's great though.
Love minwu
Do t care what anyone says about this game, climbing ultima tower and seeing minwu again was kino
Dreadnaught was kino
Killing those soldier enemies that wrecked you in fynn later in the game was kino
Killing gottos and then later seeing him as a normal enemy was kino
Game is over hated for no reason
>dawn of souls >post game is literal hell where your characters are the ones who died in the story, they even keep the equipment they had
Kino though grindy as frick
Yes but not as well, if you take damage during a fight your defense and HP will raise, but only if you don't cure the damage before the fight ends. It's got some real NES style jank in it
you can get overpowered very early if you grind a few certain fixed hard enemies early on with magic, Your weapon lvling is tied to the enemy rank, see bestiary
Maybe. Then again, Pixel Remaster reaffirms the Cid retcon instead of removing it, and he has a massive role in Dissidia and by extension SoP.
I'm pretty sure it's more along the lines of "who gives a frick" moreso than canon/non-canon. It's just funny to read about and try and comprehend.
I do kinda like what they tried to do with Garland, even though Jack has the charisma of a brick wall.
>I do kinda like what they tried to do with Garland
I actually really hate when they do that. It's like Wicked, or all the live action Disney films "recontextualizing" the villains. Certainly not helped by Jack and Garland (FF1) having zero similarity whatsoever in their writing
It doesn't "recontextualize" Garland though. If you think about the barebone plot of I for even a little bit. If Garland was keeping the world in a time loop, then he must have known on some level that he would eventually be destroyed by cycling through the millennia over and over again, and that afterwards would be a guaranteed era of peace and bliss. It's unlike the plots of the other games, where the villains are gonna destroy the world if the heroes don't stop him. If the Warriors of Light get clapped at any point in the game, by the logic of the plot, Chaos just rests the time loop again, and repeats the process until they do stop him. So Chaos was always asking for it just off of logical assumption.
SoP is hilarious, because it takes what is the most straight forward FF game ever made and somehow turns it into the most confusing and convoluted FF games ever made, which is a VERY competitive category.
It's really not confusing. Although I know what the writers were taking inspiration from, which very few people are familiar with. So it would come across that way without the background knowledge.
Honestly, no. Play the GBA version. I guess PR is fine as a fallback, but GBA is better.
FFII has a lot of neat ideas but its growth system was never properly tweaked, so it's mostly tedious and a lot of options just never get good. So if you want to enjoy the game, just go with the easiest most streamlined version, which is GBA (though PR arguably has better QoL). It also has DoS, the extra content. Most extra content for the GBA games are utter shit, but at least in FFII's case it adds to the story.
Sure, I played the PSP version though. The game is straight forward if you know how to read. For the pixel remaster, I am not sure, but word of advice, don't give good items to your 4th player.
2 is actually not that bad if you get out of the mindset where you need to autistically grind and min-max everything and just play the game. i liked 3 but it has a stupidly long and difficult final dungeon with no save points.
nah, II is just grindy and slow. The only thing I got out of it is that the story is pretty subtle, especially when I noticed that the Emperor looks like a clown and then it made sense to me.
I liked it. Short n' sweet. Using Berserk & Haste on your physical attackers is fricking insane. Don't bother casting Life on Undeads or you'll crash your game.
>With the four forces flowing as they were meant, the Warriors prepared to cross time and return to the world they knew- a world where Princess Sarah, Queen Jayne, and even Garland himself await >and even Garland himself await
How is the player even meant to know that the cycle is broken? The ending explicitly mentions that nobody knows when or what caused it, and since Garland is, as far as we know, the primary factor in its existence, though not necessarily its creation, it may well just happen again. A dream within a dream, so to speak.
So basically nothing fricking happens during the game. Fricking Hell, Square was always up their own ass, huh?
Conceptually, time loops can be interesting. But what really sells them are the characters involved, and how the concept influences the drama.
FF has no characters.
Of FF1-3, only FF1 has any value and that value is entirely historical. FF2 and FF3 might as well not exist.
counterpoint: ff3 is comfy and has a good overworld theme. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 are the ones worth playing in my professional opinion
>has a good overworld theme
So good they made a vocal theme of it for Lightning Returns and that was good they ripped it off for FF14's climax expansion
>LR
>Shadowbringers
Final fantasy 2 is beyond awful
4-6 are way better
4 story
5 customization
6 kino
it still was fun
No, put it on the backlog and buy another game.
I had fun with it, but of the originals it's definitely the worst. Get ready to punch yourself in the face, both in-game and irl.
No its fricking awful
Maybe. Possibly.
Why would you buy a game if you don't want to play it
a game that sells itself as a remaster despite looking worse than the original
I enjoyed 2 the most out of 1, 2 and 3. 1 is interesting as the most barebones entry in the franchise. 2 has weird mechanics and I liked them even if they're a bit stupid. 3 was utter slop.
My favorite SaGa game
>Just bought this, should I play it?
this statement is raping my brain. Unbelieveable
A good chunk of the idiots that post here literally can't think for themselves.
You might as well, you fricking bought it.
No...out of all of them...why 2??
At Least it ain't 13 or 15..I guess.
Shut the frick up I'm sick of people shitting on ff15 and 13! Everyone was salty because the series tried to change and evolve while you purist homosexuals want it to stay old and outdated.

moron ass Black person. moron ass Black person? Yeah, moron ass Black person.
Typically when you purchase a game, the idea is to (at the very least) play the game eventually. Infact that's what you normally do after buying ANYTHING.
I still have things I bought boxed up from half a decade ago. Sometimes I wonder when I will get around to opening DK Country Tropical Freeze.
This just tells me people need to buy games they know they like or even play.

Sorry I went on a tangent.
I just bought it because I want to play it, dude.
>Infact that's what you normally do after buying ANYTHING
Joke's on you, I just bought a PS5 so I can't play any games.
just play SaGa
It's a terrible game
I-III are pretty boring in general. IV is only good if you're invested in the story, and even then it's mediocre. V is the last time Square even attempted to design and balance a video game proper. Why are there so many salty mother frickers in this thread? I've never seen so many angry man children in my life.
>FFV
>balance
what
I said attempt. Didn't say they succeeded.
I pirated 1 on my phone and i'm loving it. Is 2 so different?
yes, there are no classes, every character is a blank slate and all their stats and spells level up the more they're solicited, that means the best way to raise your hp famously involves attacking your own guys repeatedly
Your hp increases on its own over time in the pixel remaster
I honestly don't get the disdain for FF2, compared to 1 and 3. It played exactly the same; like shit. It did however introduce a storyline to the fold. Wasn't a great story, but it was better than the nothing that was FF1, so yeah it's an improvement.

I think he's talking about the fact that Guy only has like 3 lines in the entire game.
Maria and Guy basically have no character. I think of the party as 3/4 nameless orphans essentially, and it's still a good ride
it's the most grind heavy of any final fantasy game but the music and the customization carry it
Pixel Remaster has no grinding, which I'm assuming is what OP is talking about since his picture is from the remaster.

Those games were 99% cashgrab trash
better than the garbage that was ffxvi

Kino though grindy as frick
literally the shortest of the original trilogy. you can oneshot the emperor's final form with a blood sword if done right.
speaking of which, how come Firion was't on the main cover for II?
Emperor is cooler I guess
>no dawn of souls
>none of the PSP extra content
No, you wasted your money. Should have emulated PSP version or GBA version instead.
Did the emperor really do anything wrong?
His entire house was cursed to be pawns of satan, ultimately was he ever in control?
he was satan though, and also god based off of dawn of souls.
FF2 is a peak "so bad it's good" game
i had more fun with it than i did with 80% of FF games
Are there any memes in this game?
The whole game is a meme. Leveling up your stats by "using" that stat is a meme
Levelling works like Elder Scrolls?
Yes but not as well, if you take damage during a fight your defense and HP will raise, but only if you don't cure the damage before the fight ends. It's got some real NES style jank in it
holy reddit
You can totally skip the "self harm" part if you just have everyone focus on a single buff and single melee weapon
game is fricking easy
Proto-SaGa. 2 and 8 are the most creative games in the franchise. Detractors are the reason we get hallway-sims and Ubislop from PS3 onward.
Should you play the game you bought? No, let it sit in your catalog untouched, like all the rest of us do
you can get overpowered very early if you grind a few certain fixed hard enemies early on with magic, Your weapon lvling is tied to the enemy rank, see bestiary
No, put it in the closet with the rest of your backlog and your sexuality.
>mfw reading the lore of FF1 as of Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise
Read the manga as well it's pretty good and it expands the lore of all the games
You mean Lost Stranger? Because that isn't written by the writers of any Final Fantasy. What do you think it expands upon exactly?
dissidia and SoP are all noncanon
ok nerd
Maybe. Then again, Pixel Remaster reaffirms the Cid retcon instead of removing it, and he has a massive role in Dissidia and by extension SoP.
I'm pretty sure it's more along the lines of "who gives a frick" moreso than canon/non-canon. It's just funny to read about and try and comprehend.

>even though Jack has the charisma of a brick wall.
Did you not see the flashback of Jack rizzing up Sara, or the ending scene between them?

I'd argue it was okay to attempt in this case, since the source material is so fricking ambiguous with its ending.

Play Final Fantasy Dimensions (not 2). It's only available on phones.
Play FF Dimensions for FFV job kino, stay for blonde bimbo wife Alba.
Shame the game is stuck on mobile.
Honestly, no. Play the GBA version. I guess PR is fine as a fallback, but GBA is better.

nah, II is just grindy and slow. The only thing I got out of it is that the story is pretty subtle, especially when I noticed that the Emperor looks like a clown and then it made sense to me.
Growth is far from slow as long as you perform actions in battle that you want to get better with.
I thought 3's final dungeon was the only one that was proper. The rest of the 3 dungeons are ridiculously simplistic compared to the ones in 1 and 2.
It's ok. Just play it to experience the novelty of the keyword and stat growth systems.
If you like grinding, sure.
Just play ff4, in my opinion.
What’s wrong with 2?
Nothing notable. It's just boring.
I liked it. Short n' sweet. Using Berserk & Haste on your physical attackers is fricking insane. Don't bother casting Life on Undeads or you'll crash your game.

Holy kino. This is why FF was always peak storytelling. You can't tell me this doesn't create a hard vibe.
Conceptually, time loops can be interesting. But what really sells them are the characters involved, and how the concept influences the drama.
FF has no characters.
